Muslims burn churches, opponents and Bibles, so why can’t their opponents do unto them in return? Fair is fair so Christians can burn Korans while Muslims burn Bibles.

The Injustice Dept. will likely bring hate-speech charges (or whatever they can drum up) against this Pastor as a result of so-called Islamic Leaders in the muslim world calling their Manchurian Muslim Minion in the Oval Office and complaining to him directly that this behavior is not acceptable.
Somewhat Reasonable Voice commented:
This is foolishness. Just an attention getter. Take that energy and time and spend it doing the Great Commission.
This just embarrasses me as a Christian. The man is a fool.
Granny commented:
#7 – I’m not at all sure that they CAN bring charges. Not only is this protected speech, did ou notice that this took place inside the church? That makes it also protected under Freedom of Religion, just like the filth that “reverend” wright spews is protected. Which is not to say I would not be surprised to see somebody try to burn that church . . . .
Marsh626 commented:
A lot of people compare this new trend of burning korans as akin to Nazi book burning of Jewish literature. The difference though, in my opinion, is that burning the koran is punishable by death under islamic sharia law. And it’s actually enforced and probably will be for these people as well. And therefore burning the koran is a form of protest against islamic oppression and violence and for freedom of expression.
Jmar commented:
HH is 100% correct. In fact burning bibles and churches is not even close to the worst things Muslims do, they are a cult of hate, intolerance and death.

Also, thousands of Bibles were ordered burned in Iraq by the U.S. military in order to avoid offending local muslims. No Christians went on killing sprees as a result. All other religious faiths have learned to tolerate being offended. Christian sacred texts are desecrated constantly by anti-Christian activists and by militant, fundamentalist Muslims. Yet they don’t erupt into violent riots all across the world and they don’t behead, shoot or bomb the people who did it. Muslims need to be held to the same standard if we’re ever to make any progress in reforming Islam.

I have no problem with his actions other than to say they were senseless and uncalled for. If burning the American flag is freedom of speech so then should this be.

The difference seems to be, if a tenet of your religion says you should riot, kill, and behead in response to an offense to your religion, then your rioting, killing, and beheading are all protected religious practices.

In a perfect world, this would be greeted with the same indifference (by all parties) as the burning of a dictionary.
Ink, paper, cover, and glue. That’s all that was damaged here. All other import ascribed to the object burned here… is nothing more than an idea. You can’t set physical flame to an idea. An idea can only be destroyed by a better idea.
We’re what?… a thousand years away from being that enlightened as a species?
If the United States (I’m not American) is mature and strong enough to tolerate the many thousands of times its flag and leaders have been burned in effigy; surely a belief system that purports itself to be superior to all others can tolerate the burning of one simple copy of a book, right?
An idea can only be destroyed by a better idea.
And really, isn’t that what the people who are going to riot over this act really afraid of?

Question: Why is is acceptable “freedom of speech” for an “artist” to place a crucifix upside down in a jar of human urine, OR for a judge to rule “freedom of speech” necessitates NYC taxpayers contribute to a display of the Virgin Mary whose face is obliterated by animal feces – yet we have asshats on this site who would deprive the “reverend” of his “free speech right” to burn the Koran (which incidentally calls for the elimination of all infidels who refuse to acknowledge the supremacy of Islam?)
I’m awaiting your answer(s) to show the difference why the Koran is protected under “free speech” yet symbols of Christianity are not.

#50 Valerie – Haven’t read the koran lately have you? That wasn’t an “offense against allah.” That was doing exactly what the koran teaches – exulting in the death of the infidel.
Early verses of the koran might speak about “peace” but they have all been overridden by later verses according to the teachings of every sect of islam. Those later verses say nothing at all about peace.

Slake commented:
You are all idiots. All of you.
You claim that Islam is an intolerant religion. How is the act of burning their sacred book any less intolerant? Anybody who actually had any idea what the Koran actually stands for would understand that it is a book of peace. (By the way, I was raised Roman Catholic and I am not a muslim.) True, the violent parts in the Koran are acted out by extremists, such as the Taliban. But even you need to realize that not all muslims are terrorists, and not all terrorists are muslim.
To sit there in your hillbilly shacks with your guns raised triumphant over your heads as you bask in the glory of one of the most insulting things you could ever do to another man’s faith is sickening. Innocent people have died because of Terry Jones. People who work for the UN have been beheaded as a result of this sham trial. Soldiers in danger overseas will now be targeted for revenge, and what words of comfort and solace will you give to the family who has to see their son come home in a bodybag as a result of this man’s actions?
What would you say? Will any of you take responsibility for giving this man your support? I challenge you, right here, right now, to reexamine your small minded idiocy, and look at the bigger picture. Just because you don’t understand Islam is no reason to be afraid of it, and just because you’re afraid of it is no reason to hate it. Instead of burning the damn book, why don’t you pick it up and read it? Maybe then it wouldn’t scare you as bad, and maybe this whole thing could have been avoided.
I truly hope the innocent deaths that this has caused will put you pathetic human beings in your place. I hope the thrill of watching a foreign populace kill innocent people was enough to sate your bloodlust. How many dead bodies does Terry Jones need to build his throne of self righteousness? Ten? Twenty? A hundred? And how many of those bodies will be American soldiers, who fight and die bravely for your ability to cheerlead the destruction of a people you’ve never even met before?
