Terrific- Experts Estimate There Are Only 1,000 Rebel Fighters in Libya… And 1,000 Fighters Are Jihadists

What do you want first?… The bad news or the bad news?

CNN’s Jon Lee Anderson gave Eliot Spitzer some bad news yesterday. According to Anderson there are only 1,000 rebels fighting Gaddafi forces in Libya.

During “In the Arena,” Jon Lee Anderson, staff writer for The New Yorker reporting from Benghazi, Libya, tells Eliot Spitzer that the number of opposition fighters on the front lines are fewer than anyone would think and that they are poorly armed and badly trained. Anderson says, “Effective number of fighting men, well under 1,000. Actual soldiers, who are now in the fight, possibly in the very low hundreds on the opposition side.”

Earlier it was reported that there were 1,000 Al-Qaeda members in the rebel ranks.

Former jihadist Noman Benotman, who renounced his al Qaeda affiliation in 2000, said in an interview that he estimates 1,000 jihadists are in Libya…

…Outside observers generally estimate the number of trained Libyan fighters to be about 1,000.

That’s weird. So if there are only 1,000 rebel fighters in Libya and there are 1,000 members of Al-Qaeda fighting with the rebels in Libya, then wouldn’t that mean that the rebels are 100% jihadists?

And, the Obama Administration wants to arm them?
Now does that sound like smart power to you?

Not to worry… There are at least 200 more Al-Qaeda fighters on their way to Libya from Afghanistan.

    Let me see if I’ve got this straight:

    1) Over 1800 combat sorties flown in Libya;

    2) Approximately 220 Tomahawk cruise missiles launched into Libya @ $600,000 each;

    3) Two F-15 fighter jets lost (so far) @ $35 million each;

    4) How many Libyan rebels supported as a result? 1,000??? Are you kidding me?

    Can somebody help me with the math here?? Am I missing something? Hello?

    You do the math.

    THANKS Dave O. That is so sick, it’s just staggering. And, just another fun and frolicsome way for Obama to drain the economic resources of USA–cuz’ the stimulus plans weren’t enough, and cuz’ the military still has WAY TOO MUCH in the way of weapons stored up. T

    You know, there is an urban legend among the bad Iranians and Arabs that if you take America down economically, we won’t care about Israel any more, and we won’t be able to do anything anywat, and therefore, the Iranians and their dumb cousins (the hardline Iranians think the Arabs are pathetics) can invade Israel and win. All depends on taking down the US in their minds. That was the original reason for 9-11. They thought the WTC was some sort of central economic hub of the US and US Govt, and if they could destroy it, they could destroy America from the inside out. A weak America, nay a limp America preoccupied with only its own survival, is what the end game is from their perspective. Ergo, Obama spending, spending, spending, then draining the military in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Libya.

    Retire05, I understand about France and Germany, and that they do want the oil, but I wouldn’t dismiss China just yet. Obama would love to create the same system here, and Soros is waiting to make a killing on an economically emerging and dominant China.

    You also said: ” . . . but Obama did NOT say WHAT political winds. The political winds in the ME is definately changing, and he seems to be siding with those that have strong jihadist leanings. Again, never listen to what Obama says; pay attention to what he does and right now he is supporting Libyan rebels when he doesn’t even know who they are.”

    Totally agree (pay attention to what he DOES not what he says), except that, OBAMA DOES know EXACTLY who they are. It’s just that he was counting on a stronger showing and much more action, from many more players, much more quickly than materialized. Never thought I’d be rooting (sort of) for Ghadaffi. Ha!

    Also, Obama’s reference to siding with the Moslems is a very definite “drawing the line” both figuratively and literally, with Israel and even the United States, which to him, is an “enemy state” actually. He’s saying who’s side he’s on (the Moslem side), and he has backed that up in every situation.

    It’s all about goal one: weakening the US into nothingness (Soros is happy to oblige) in order to take out Israel and install a strong Communist/Socialist economic/social platform, and goal two: installing himself as a supreme leader in the best respect that he can achieve, either here or there, wherever “there” is, as long as he’s in charge. That’s why the Bamster is making “friends” all over the world since he’s not sure he can stay here when it’s all over.

    We need to make sure he can’t stay here in 2012. But even so, the worst thing is, now he knows ALL our secrets, has put his buddies into the FBI, CIA, Czar shadow government, and who knows where else. I believe this whole thing is much bigger than anyone realizes.

    Someone has to answer a question I have or maybe two!

    1) If all the European countries have signed oil leases with Quaddfi, why would they want him out? The Rebels, if they are Al Qaeda, what insurance do they have that they will honor the contracts.
    2) How do you threaten the “rebels” that they to will be bombed if they don’t stop killing civilians, just who’s side are we on? This is all just crazy confusing, what the hell is going on here?

    one side for the rich oil dudes, the other slave labor, oh wait..

    and they gave GWB hell for not being able
    to pronounce names like Kyrgyzstan.. 😛

    So, the first week, it’s estimated the US spent $600 million? Divide by 1000 rebels, that’s $600,000 a rebel. And we’re broke.

    I remember back when I would be shocked by news like this. Now, after news like this coming at me daily for so long, I’ve become hardened and jaded. I was much more sensitive way back in 2009.
