Terrific! Al-Qaeda Declares South Yemen an Islamic Emirate

Well, so much for that American ally.
As the pro-American government continued to crumble in Yemen this week, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula announced yesterday that Abyan Province is now an Islamic Emirate.
Yemeni anti-government protesters demonstrate in Sanaa. US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s eventual fall or his replacement by a weaker leader would pose “a real problem” for US counter-terrorism work. (AFP/Ahmad Gharabli)

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has declared Yemen’s Abyan province an “Islamic Emirate” and banned women from going outside, according to Eurasia Review and accounts from Yemeni journalists.
AQAP, which has established full control over the southern province, made an online statement Wednesday declaring Abyan an Islamic Emirate governed by Shariah.
The statement said women in the province should not go out except under necessary circumstances, “and she who urgently needs to go out, should be with one of her male relatives, and should have ID with her.”

And he pretty much said that he is hitting a stone wall. Declaring the drug cartels terrorists gives us greater latitude in dealing with them. Instead, this administration ignores the thousands of murders of judges, politicians, police, and ordinary citizens that is an every day occurence in Mexico. Mike said that the administration doesn’t seem to think that Mexico, and the violence there, is a problem to the U.S. He also said that the weasel, Calderon, is unwilling to take the actions we did in Columbia when we cleaned the narco rat’s nests out there. Meanwhile, the violence flows across our border and affects U.S. citizens with regularity. What the hell does it take to make a problem in Mexico a “national security” issue for the U.S.
You want mass murders of every day citizens? Look to Mexico. You want beheadings? Look to Mexico. You want women abused and tortured? You want corruption in government? Yep, Mexico’s your go to place.
So while we fret and fuss over a bunch of uneducated people who still crap in dirt holes, Americans die everyday because our government turns a blind eye to Mexico. Remind me again how much we are spending in Libya every day just to protect France’s oil interests?

Actually, if we were to do this correctly, we’d be trying to annihilate the radicals over there before they consolidate and we have to fight them here–you know like Bush was trying to do. Because they are coming here to kill us one day, whether we acknowledge it or not. (If we are very lucky, we might be able to scrounge up one or two allies from countries who don’t pay too much attention to the news or Wikileaks, but we’ll probably have to go it alone.) So, we do have a vital interest in how events in the middle east play out, above and beyond any considerations of oil–ours or the EU’s.
However, we–excuse me–Obama is handling this so badly that we are actually subsidizing and creating the monster that will kill us as well as hastening the day of reckoning–all while killing innocent people. But it won’t hold a candle to the number of innocent people who are going to be killed when the sh*t actually hits the fan. No, that will be epic. And horrific. And totally avoidable. I have come to the conclusion that we’re just not that smart; we’re condemned to repeat the past.
I try comfort myself with church and a stiff drink once in a while, but it doesn’t really help.

Now report yourself to the Eric Holder thought police right away because you are either a closet racist or republican extremist.Make sure you get rid of any bibles or guns in your possession. Red Sea on the East – choking off the Suez Canal heading as it heads south to the Gulf of Aiden, where it blends in with the Arabian Sea that surrounds Yemen’s southern coast but heads over a stone’s throw to the Arabian Sea, which is where the Gulf of Oman is and the choke point for access to the Straights of Hormuz.
I say: Coal – liquify it NOW. Natural gas – get it from the Rocky Mtn. states NOW. Don’t send one more dollar over there.
Wait……..on second thought since the dollar is worthless, send all dollars over there, just not gold, silver, or steel.

PLAYED! U all are about as discerning as those who believe everything Al-Jazeera puts out too. Over 7 weeks ago they said ‘tens of thousands’ demonstrated against Saleh’s regime, when in reality there were less than 200, only now have they reached that number. They also had talking heads on there saying he would fall in a week or two-he’s still there, though tenuously.
There is no doubt that when he pulled his elite terrorism troops out of Abyan recently AQAP saw it as a tactical victory and are now using it to their every advantage. But realize the fed’s NEVER had control in many parts of the country and the $$$$$$$$ the US sent to him was little if EVER spent on anti-terrorism and mostly spent on paying off various tribal sheikhs and others to keep power. Saleh was not any constant ally either, he continually let go folks from Gitmo, and other types that were KNOWN terrorists in deals brokered with shiekhs and like to keep himself in power.
The world is much more complicated and nasty than imagined in most of the small-minded silly comments here. Sophisticated thinking and being informed doesn’t seem to be much of a strong point. Knee-jerk commentary and emotional rhetoric are about as intelligent as they sound.
It’s something when a poor illiterate Yemeni tribesman spouts nonsense, but seriously, in an affluent, relatively educated country just about NO excuse for being ill-informed, except of course if you ONLY watch the ragloids FOX, CNN, and the like. EVEN top US military and government personnel know better. EVERY, EVERYone was glued to Al-Jazeera, and to come full circle even they have a clear agenda. Everyone has an agenda and NOONE tells the truth.
