Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin told FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace that democrats would not cut more than $10.5 billion from the bloated $3.5 trillion budget. This is less than .28% of the annual budget. The Obama -Pelosi national deficit will reach $1.65 trillion this year. But, this doesn’t bother democrats – They won’t budge. The Obama-Pelosi regime increased spending by 84% – If you think they have any intention of cutting spending now, you don’t understand the democrat party.

  1. Shut it down.

  2. This would be hysterical if it weren’t so horrifying. I watched Liberals all over the blogs making fun of Republicans for only cutting $65 billion from the budget. This, after Obama outspent Bush and pushed deficits into an almost impossible to reverse situation. Now they have nothing to say when their side offers this ridiculous nonsense.

  3. Dick Turban is already a proven traitor and politburo swine.

  4. Communist

  5. More evidence that it will take several more election cycles of an educated, conservative citizenry excising the cancerous, liberal vermin from office. If we but can survive their assault on the country meanwhile.

  6. Asking Dems to cut spending is like asking Charlie Sheen to quit drinking and having sex with hookers.

Don’t you all see the parallel?

  7. Well, it looks like the democrats and republicans are going to play chicken to see who will tell the tax payers that Social Security, Medicare and the Defense Budget have to be cut. Obama will not lead because he only cares about his election for a second term so he won’t be the one to do it and the republicans will get fried by the socialist media if they call for it. Woe to us after the country goes bankrupt.

  8. This is political malgovernance. These people are well on the way to ruining the nation, they are deluded narcissists who think that only they can provide the answers. Meanwhile, a mountain of debt is piling up while jobs are stagnant and inflation ramping up.

They do not deserve to have our tax dollars. Period.

  9. No worries, the good cop will come to the rescue with a better offer — albeit without moving any numbers to the left of the decimal point — and will be heralded as a budget hawk.

  10. “But what about the children?” My GOD… hasn’t that argument become as irrelevant as a liberal calling someone a racist because they disagree with their opinion…. come on!!!

  11. As someone who used to be a lifelong democrat who is now an independent, I am convinced DC, DC dems are completely in their own tight bubble.

Dickie Durbin has no clue on the mood of the country. I saw this interview and almost threw my remote at the TV!

Are these people for real? What the hell is wrong with them?!? This country is screwed in 10 years…. do they have no freaking clue that in 5 years our interest payments will MORE than the annual GDP!!!!

I formally apologize for even ever registering as a democrat. I don’t trust the repubs either, but I am very scared for my country, I am socially libetarian, but I am very fiscally conservative, and am for limited govt. If that means pain for the short term, but fiscal sanity for the longer term, so be it.

Dickie Durbin and millionaire Pelosi will come out of all this ok, their kids will come out ok, their families will come out of this ok, its the rest of America, especially my generation, my kids generation who will have to sort through this crap.
And the man proposes only cutting freaking 10 billion?!?!?

and then says entitlements are the problem, ok, fine, then if the repubs or TP tries to have a reasonable plan so that SS and Medicare can be sustained for the long time, they cry and whine that the meanie repubs are doing something. I’m sick of it, I am so sick of listening to these fools!

As an independent I trust the TP & repubs more than the dems on most issues now (not social issues though, but scare tactics will not work anymore, there are bigger issues at stake)
I cannot believe I wasted time even listening to this fool Durbin. I am so tired of listening to the whining, the complaining.

The country is about to be hit by an iceberg while going over a cliff, and Durbin proposes that we should throw some of the dinner napkins overboard to lighten the load to help save the ship.

  12. dems insist publicly that money grows on trees, all the while knowing full well that they are foisting a fairy tale on a deluded public.

They are indeed criminal, as someone has already stated.

  13. The Republican cuts are only 1.6% of the budget.

Try spending yourself to bankruptcy and getting out of it with a 2% cut in spending.

The federal government is insanity in action.

    Apology accepted.

Now then, wake up on the social issues. The Democrats are the ones that gave us the Compact Flouescent lighbulbs, 1.6 gallon flush toilets, all the gay marrage rights etc.

Wake up and smell the coffee, the left is a socialist organization. The person that created the sierra club left it. His reasons?? The sierra club was taken over by socialists.
This is how the evil hides and moves its agenda on a weak willed public.

Better prepare, this is not going to be just a voting fight. its going to get bloody. Not my choice, just the tactics of the leftists.

    powder is dry.

  15. “The Democrats are the ones that gave us the Compact Flouescent lighbulbs
(I don’t have an issue of those lightbulbs, what I have an issue with is banning the incandencent one and then forcing me to buy florucent mercury filled ones, and then the govt gives subsidies to those companies, both sets of lightbulbs should be available, no govt mandates, let it be market driven)

, 1.6 gallon flush toilets (this was a silly idea, mechanically it never made sense, I think San Francisco is now dealing with the clean up of this, especially the smell, costs to that city I think were 165 million, if a city wants to do something stupid like this, I have no issue, just don’t expect the federal govt to come bail this nonsensically expenses out. If the residents of san fransicico want to pay higher taxes to pay for this, I have no issues with it, what I have an issue with is the federal govt forces it on states govt with regulations)

, all the gay marrage rights etc. (while I am pro gay equal rights, I think marriage is between a man and a woman, if a state like MA wants to change that, ok, just like I’m ok with UT banning gay marriage, I am a strong supporter of the 10th amendent, I don’t think the federal govt can and should force states, ALL 50 states to say, ok now marriage means what we say it means, most Americans believe marriage as between a man and a woman, but are tolerant of civil unions.
if it comes to legal rights at a federal level, then fine, have a civil union rights which will mirror marriage rights, but let each state decided to approve or ban gay marriage); but don’t force every state to approve gay marriage, there will be some like MA and VT who will be fine with it, others like TX, UT, ND, SD who will not.

  16. And then there is this:

    http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2011/03/03/tea-party-voters-by-almost-2-1-oppose-social-security-cuts/

My advice to the R’s is to IGNORE THE POLLS AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT (a novel idea to be sure), but there is no way in hell this will happen.

    Boned!

  17. The dumbest comment by Dick Durbin (and there are many) came in this interview:”We cannot cut, spend or tax ourselves out of this, we must THINK ourselves out of this”.
Please, lets all start thinking very hard, and the deficit will go away.

  18. the key words are “significant cuts” to SS and Medicare.
I oppose that as well, those who are receiving it or are about to should not be affected, but it has to changed for younger folks, and it have to be on some scale based on income and age. People want SS and medicare preserved and strong for the future, but that cannot happen on the path that it is on now.

Like a ship, cannot just turn it quickly without massive damage to that ship, it has to be turned, but carefully and relatively slowly, country still has 5-10 years, but the longer we wait, the fewer choices will be available and the more painful those choices will be.

  19. When the IL senator is referred to as “Little Dicky” Durbin, it’s for 2 reasons. #1 is his intellect, you can guess #2. Same guy who called our military folks “Nazis”. Beyond pathetic.

  20. You people need to put out the fukking fire first. DEMOCRATS are Communists. It’s really that simple. The LIBTARD PARTY has promised things to GROUPS. IT CANNOT BACK AWAY. The LIBTARD PARTIES very survival is in the hands of those it has promised YOUR MONEY TOO.

If WISCONSIN didn’t wake you people up, NOTHING will. The LIBTARDOCRAT 14 in WISCONSIN cannot and will not come back to the STATE until it’s HANDLERS the GOOOONION LEADERS give their ok. Obama made my point abundantly clear when he said he’d veto any bill that cut ABORTRIONS-R-US, Planned Parenthood funding. IT’S ABOUT GROUPS PEOPLE. Democrats are owned by groups.

  21. gus @ # 20,

Yep. Dems are communists, and hate this country, except for what they can steal. We’ve entered a new era which is beyond crony capitalism. It is economic slavery of the taxpayer to our political aristocrats and their minions. This cannot continue. And it will not continue. The left wants war, as is evident from all the nasty signs at their ‘rallies’. They never heard the phrase, ‘be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.’

  22. There is another way to solve the problem. It’s drastic. Sounds crazy too.

The TEA Party pulls together and presents to the house our own budget, specifically targeting spending, redundancy and entitlements. The “option” is presented to the house, with all due respect, and a deadline imposed.

    Here’s the insanity:

If they ignore it, then WE THE PEOPLE JUST SHUT DOWN: The day after the deadline, we quit our job(s). Quit producing. Quit paying taxes on goods and services. Buy the necessities only. No extras, no perks, just bare minimum. Shutter the doors. We can take care of each other during the process. Pool our resources for the greater cause.

I think we hold a tremendous amount of power in these actions, and we could shut it down in a heartbeat. Besides, what are we waiting for – the GOP to do what’s right? Collaboration between the two parties? Obama? Isn’t the collapse of the USA what president WTF is working towards anyways? Why let it happen on his terms? Why wait 24 months with the possibility we can outspend Obama’s billion dollar re-election campaign?

    REV II / 2011

    Too crazy?

Absolutely spot on, and I’m amazed that more haven’t talked about this (the ‘rats in Wisconsin have opened the door for this); but are there enough of you to do this?

    Count me in.

  26. Defund the Departments of Agriculture, Energy, Education, Interior, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Transportation, Commerce and Homeland Security.

Cut Department of Justice by 50%.

Defund the EPA, Federal Communications Commission, Transportation Security Agency, NASA, NOAA, Securities & Exchange Commission, Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Land Management, Alcohol, Firearms & Tobacco, Small Business Administration, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the VA.

Abolish the Alternative Minimum Tax and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Start efforts to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendments replacing them with a flat tax & election of Senators by state legislatures. Fold in a National Right to Work and raise the voting age to 21 except for active duty military who could vote at 18 personnel and educators who could vote at 65.

Defense, Social Security and Medicare would be no problem.

  27. You could eliminate the entirety of the budget outside Social Security and Medicare and you would still be broke and on a completely unsustainable path. That is just the way it is. We got screwed by the generation that came before us who voted themselves all of these benefits without paying for them. If taxation without representation was worth starting a revolution over then surely spending every dime the next generation has without their being allowed a chance to vote on it is just as bad. You can’t create these sorts of programs and make generational commitments without screwing one group over at the expense of the other.

The “greatest generation” may have won the war but they left the fox in charge of the hen house back home and they set us on this track that inevitably ends in insolvency and the loss of all of our liberties other than the right to bitch about what they did.

  28. Civil Cold Warrior:

You’re wrong. You can’t show me the numbers. I know what they are!

The left plundered Social Security and imposed medicare. All you get back from social security is what you and your employer put in, with zero interest for forty years! Had they bought Series E savings bonds, retirees would be rolling in cash. LBJ, Carter & Clinton stole the money.

  29. in re social security: if the politicans paid back the money they “borrowed” from social security and all the people collecting social security benefits who never paid into the system would social security be in trouble?

  30. #33 March 6, 2011 at 7:58 pm
    tommy mc donnell

    The simple answer is no.

If you paid $100K into social security and your employer matched the contribution, your account has $200K in it. Suppose you were 65 and wanted to start drawing SS on the March 1, 2011. According to the actuaries, your life expectancy is 77, so they divide $200K by the number of months until you reach 77 and they pay you $1,388.89 per month. All you get back is the principal. For 40 years the government used your money interest free.

To be eligible, you must have paid into the system for some period of time, 9 quarters I think. Less than that, you get zero back.

If someone borrows money, the lender expects to be paid interest and, over time, the principal repaid. If the government had “borrowed” our money, they should have issued us Series E bonds that paid 4%. Over the years, they should have paid us about $120K to use our money.

  31. Actually, it’s difficult to do a back-of-the-envelope interest calculation for several reasons. Since 1932 when FDR initiated this Ponzi Scheme, the rates have increased several times as have the maximum yearly earnings on which you and your employer paid into the system. Your income also changed over time and likely the changes were not linear. An accountant could probably whip out an answer, but fortunately, I’m not an accountant.
