Dear Readers … we have a fellow blogger, Red from Scared Monkeys, who is in need of our help.
Scared Monkeys.com is a fellow conservative blogger in arms who has been on the internet since the early 2000’s and a blog owner for many years providing a voice for conservatives, missing persons and victims of crime. I first met Red, the owner of SM, back in 2005 when we were both basically starting out in the world of blogging. Since then, Scared Monkeys has provided a voice for conservative values and they have helped out many behind the scenes who have been victims of crime who would not have otherwise been provided a voice… however, my friend now needs help.
If all are not familiar with RIGHTHAVEN, you should be. They are the individuals that are using copyright infringement laws as a business model to sue bloggers. They have sued nearly 300 bloggers in an attempt to get settlement money from bloggers who cannot afford legal battles. Unfortunately Scared Monkeys was one of those blogs that was wrongfully sued. For those of you not familiar with RIGHTHAVEN, I would suggest you Google them or go HERE, http://righthavenvictims.blogspot.com/, to see the havoc they are causing. Everyone should worry as to what this organization is doing in the name of “copyright infringement” vs. fair use. One of the threats that are being made is the taking of a bloggers site as a so-called damage.
I am asking readers to help a fellow blogger in his time of need. The blogosphere is supposed to be a community where not only do we link, share ideas and communicate with one another in a timely manner to report news accounts, we should also band together when one of our own is in trouble and needs help. Red has reluctantly created a Paypal donation button to help with legal fees. Please take the time and visit Scared Monkeys and make a donation, their post on the issue can be seen below.
Just a Quick MSA, Monkey Service Announcement … Your Help is Appreciated
Thanks so much for your help in aiding a fellow conservative. Freedom of Speech is an important right and one worth fighting for. Any help that can be provided is deeply appreciated. I would hate to see Red’s voice silenced. Thank you for helping a fellow Blogger in Arms.
Sincerely,
Jim Hoft

Is he going to fight the lawsuit or just settle. I have no interest in supporting a settlement.
These trolls need to lose the lawsuits not be settled with.

Jim, thank you very much for the post.
A special thanks to the readers at The Gateway Pundit for your generosity and support. Jim and I go back a ways as we pretty much started blogging at the same time. Jim Hoft is a must daily read.
The Internet is a fantastic medium; we should never be silenced by those claiming to protect speech that are in fact shutting it down thru threats. The greatest attribute of the web is bloggers linking to each other, sharing posts, stories and personal accounts not only thru each other but their many readers.
This issue at hand is greater than any one blogger, for an attack on one of us is an attack on all. Some thing really needs to be done about this. If you have been following the RIGHTHAVEN lawsuits, they have sued the Right (Drudge), the Left (Democrat Underground, non-profit blogs and all too numerous mom & pop one and hobby bloggers. This is an attack of free speech and fair use. It is shameful that newspaper (on-line) orgs would have taken this route. This issue needs to be addressed before it gets more out of control than it already has.
Thank you to all of Jim’s faithful readers.
Thank you Jim for always be there and being a friend! MUCH APPRECIATED ALL!

Jim, Didn’t a judge just find that RIGHTHAVEN could NOT buy the the copyright’s for the purpose of a lawsuit? Something about a Denver paper.

These people ARE beasts.
It is REALLY important that when you link a blog that you DO NOT COPY AND PASTE. Just the link, and BE careful over WHO’S website you are using.
One of my bloggers got sued on her own website and she is super careful now.

Someone needs to explain this to me better. I don’t understand what RIGHTHAVEN has going on. Obviously I’ve been under a rock because this is the first I’ve heard of RIGHTHAVEN. Why or on what grounds is RIGHTHAVEN sueing different bloggers? Are they claiming they have the right to a name and the blogger who has been using that name for years took it from them?

From a fellow Monkey Thanks sooooooooooooo much for the help. Scared Monkeys is a great site as is Gateway Pundit. Red is fantastic to give so many a place to get the news, help with missing people. Scared Monkeys does not deserve this bottom feeder going after them.
