The Libyan opposition is calling out for George H. Bush to come to their rescue.
Reuters reported:
Muammar Gaddafi struck at rebel control of a key Libyan coastal road for a second day Thursday but received a warning he would be held to account at The Hague for suspected crimes by his security forces.
Venezuela said Gaddafi had agreed to its proposal for an international commission to negotiate an end to the turmoil in the world’s 12th largest oil exporting nation.
But a leader of the uprising against Gaddafi’s 41-year-old rule rejected any proposal for talks with the veteran leader…
…The rebels, armed with rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns and tanks, called Wednesday for U.N.-backed air strikes on foreign mercenaries it said were fighting for Gaddafi.
Opposition activists called for a no-fly zone, echoing a demand by Libya’s deputy U.N. envoy, who now opposes Gaddafi.
“Bring Bush! Make a no fly zone, bomb the planes,” shouted soldier-turned-rebel Nasr Ali, referring to a no-fly zone imposed on Iraq in 1991 by then U.S. President George Bush.
Italy said it was preparing for a potential mass exodus of migrants escaping turmoil in North Africa after a rise in flows of illegal immigrants from Tunisia, the initial destination for tens of thousands who have fled violence in Libya.

Yeah. The British have troops ready to seize Gaddafi’s mustard gas. Our (former) allies have all denounced the violence used against citizens and are moving for sanctions.

You know what the worst of it is Andreas? Recently I read a book called “Late for Tea at the Deer Palace” authored by Tamara Chalabi. The book is a memoir of her very well known Iraqi family over the last 100+ years. Oddly enough, every word she writes about the disastrous policies followed by the British in the Mideast nearly 100 years ago (which is correct BTW) is EXACTLY what we are still trying to do today for at least the 4th time.

an analysis that agrees with mine, go figure..
A Democrat’s Triumphal Return to Cairo
[One political role he's already playing is as an informal adviser to Obama administration officials, his friends Michael McFaul and Samantha Power, scholars who serve on the National Security Council staff. But he doesn't mince words about Mr. Obama's record so far. The president "wasted two and a half years" cozying up to dictators and abandoning dissidents, he says. "Partly to distance himself from Bush, democracy promotion became a kind of bad phrase for him." He also made the Israeli-Palestinian conflict his top priority, at the expense of pushing for freedom. "By putting the democracy file on hold, on the back burner, he did not accomplish peace nor did he serve democracy," says Mr. Ibrahim.
'Dislikable as [President Bush] may have been to many liberals, including
my own wife, we have to give him credit,” says Mr. Ibrahim. “He started
a process of some conditionality with American aid and American foreign
policy which opened some doors and ultimately was one of the building
blocks for what’s happening now.” That conditionality extended to Mr.
Ibrahim: In 2002, the Bush administration successfully threatened to
withhold $130 million in aid from Egypt if Mr. Mubarak didn’t release him.
So what should the White House do? “Publicly endorse every democratic movement in the Middle East and offer help,” he says. The least the administration can do is withhold “aid and trade and diplomatic endorsement. Because now the people can do the job. America doesn’t have to send armies and navies to change the regimes. Let the people do their change.”]

Ya know what? There are people with chidlren and aged parents in Libya who are very nice people and are terrified. Ghaddafi is a murderer and he’s proving his reputation for violence and egotistical meglomania is totally justified.
People DO want the right to self-determination. President George Bush understood this better than anyone since Reagan, bar none. He worked very quietly to enable the South SUdanese achieve this through the CPA and the Referendum – the vaunted “CHANGE”: by VOTE, not by BULLETS. Bush was working to find ways in Libya to lay a road to peaceful change after Ghaddafi because chaos is horrific and guys like Ghaddafi NEVER prepare for orderly transitions of power, they plan to be immortal and rule forever. While the Left was smearing and insulting and demeaning Bush 24/7 for “no blood for oil” he never said a word that might be used to derail his efforts to find OTHER change besides BLOODY ones in AFrica.
Obama, the agitator, knows ALL about disrupting existing systems, breaking them, and cares NOTHING or knows anything about a responsibility to protect the people from disaster. Obama stirs it up, and just walks away, not his problem.
There are several groups competing for dominance in Libya. Bush was nurturing the genuine reformers for democracy, while undermining the terrorists. Bush could tell the difference. How about seeing some of that mature discernment between good and evil around here?
We want the better side of Libya to win, we should be helping them, the reasonable people, and they are there, trying to keep themselves and their children safe as war rages around them. The Progressive LEft never cares about them, they abort kids, they use them as tools, they do not care about them as human beings. Obama dithers which allows the most violent and cruel to advance. That is NOT in the long term interest in ANY measure , politicially, security, diplomatically, morally and for the credibility of the United States.
Bush’s greatest weakeness is his love for fellow human beings no matter where they are. It is also his greatest strength. Obama is so detached from human kindness he would urge his daughters to abort his own grandchildren if they were inconvenient, how little has he shown of compassion for jobless Americans – his economic chokehold is working “as planned” – so then how even less then does he care for Libyans he don’t know?
DO not be like him. DO not lose the natural compassion for others that has been the engine of American benevolance for centuries. Fight for right and help those in distress.

That’s the sad thing Granny. And all of these useless attempts are usually “justified” with our “historical guilt”. In the UK it’s the colonial past, here it’s the Nazis. Essentially the left wing everywhere is using a Nazi idea to force this crap on us. “Sippenhaftung”, kin liability. Our ancestors did this and that and now we’re all guilty.
Interestingly, they only apply this on us “evil white people”. The Otomans, mohammedans, tried to invade Austria several times. They did things to our people… horrifying. Nobody holds today’s mohammedans responsible for that, even though it would be even more justified, since they still follow the fascist idea called “islam”. The same idea, that led to the attacks on Europe back then.
When Austrian troops were sent to the Chad I was vehemently against it. Austrian troops have the duty to defend Austria, that’s what we’re sworn to do. Every draftee who serves takes that oath. I don’t remember having a garden in the Chad that needed defending. I still have friends in our army and I hated when they were deployed to a conflict that wasn’t theirs. They followed orders, of course. But still, if one of them would have been killed down there, it would have been a useless death.
Not one drop of American or European blood for Libya.
Let them kill each other. It’s their problem. It’s not our responsibility.
Andreas K. commented:
Marsh626, I heard Austria will take 8,000 of them. Other countries will take them, too.
By now the left wing wants to build new homes for asylum seekers as well. Millions of Euros. But since the restructuring of our army we have a lot of empty barracks. Why not use those? They were good enough for our sons when they served. Oh wait, those were mainly “evil white men” and soldiers. Those “refugees” deserve better, of course. All paid with tax payer money.
james commented:
Its funny listening to the libs trying to spin this that the libyan rebel meant George H. Bush instead of the great liberator, George W. Bush. I doubt he even knew who the president was 20 years ago. God bless you President George W. Bush, the greatest president in american history. Boy, do we miss you now.
Andreas K. commented:
BTW (and sorry for the triple post), Austria has its own version of “300″. During one of the invasions of the mohammedans (1478) 600 farmers and miners faced more than 25,000 mohammedan troops. The nobility and clergy had fled leaving the people to fend for themselves. The 600 were all killed on the so called “Blutwiese” (blood meadow), and it’s still called like that.
