In a picture released by the Japanese Defense Agency on March 13, sixty-year-old survivor Hiromitsu Shinkawa, right, is shown as crew members of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Aegis vessel Choukai sail to rescue him, about 9.3 miles (15 km) off Fukushima prefecture. The Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer rescued Shinkawa after discovering him floating on a piece of roof in waters off Fukushima Prefecture two days after the disaster struck. The man, from the city of Minamisoma which has been virtually obliterated, was swept out along with his house after the massive tsunami tore into Japan’s northeast following a 8.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday. That was actually his roof, at least from what I’ve gathered about the story so far. He and his wife returned to their home to pick up some belongings after they had already left because of the tsunami warning.
According to him his wife was simply swept away and he held on to parts of his home as good as he could.

Only by the grace of God do you survive such an event.

Only by the grace of God do you survive such an event???
Foolish statements that would point to the Almighty abound. I guess the grace of God was not with the thousands that didn’t survive such an event? Or how about the grace that allowed the event in the first place?

Steve, You do not understand who God is. God doesn’t cause tradegy, pain and death. There is evil in the world, sin, which was not his original creation. Please read the Bible as it explains why we have such tradegy. Jesus died for us first to have forgiveness and access to God and, second to have peace through such circumstances. Until you understand who God really is through reading the Bible, it will (appear) that he doesn’t care which is far from the truth.
shrek commented:

Who said it was God’s grace that allowed it to happen Steve?
Oh, and hopefully you will never be in need of any grace from any one or any thing.

Amy-USA, what you don’t understand is the foolishness that often passes as piety. To suggest that the man in the picture survived the tragedy because of God’s grace is to suggest something else for those who died in the tragedy.
And no, the Bible does not explain why we have such tragedies, and no not all tragedies are the result of sin. Read Job, or read John 9.
And finally Amy, if you knew a giant wave was coming your way…a wave so big it would wipe out your whole city, family, loved ones and friends…and you knew this well in advance of the disaster, such that you could warn your city to flee for safety….but instead of doing something to let them know of the approaching disaster, you chose to keep silent thus preventing their rescue, please tell me again how such an act by you could be a truly loving/caring act?
I know, I know…I just don’t understand the mystery of such loving care!

Remember, when your masters pistol is at the back of your head because you have outlived your usefulness to Marxism, Remember this moment and cry out for God’s grace. You will get none from your current creed of evil.
What is God’s grace? The ability to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Which gives me the courage to die on my feet in defense of what is good and just, instead of on my knees at the edge of a mass grave, mewling for pity from a beast which has none.
“Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me.” He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: “That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave”…Stonewall Jackson
The difference between Christian good news and Islam, which Marxists think they can use to their advantage, is that if Christian’s proclaim to the good news to you, and you refuse it, that is God’s free will expressed. If you refuse the tenants of Islam, you are an Infidel, and deserve death.

When something happens that is so sad like a death, cancer, we look up and ask God why? Only God knows why! Do we ask God why when someone cruel dies? I don’t! BUt I say a prayer for them. Does God take the evil one or does Satan? Who Knows! Was the husband spared because he was stronger to be able to hold on to the roof and the wife could not! Who knows.
I strongly feel that our country America was built on our faith in God Almighty! When we put in a long hard week of working and our rewards is mostly a roof over our heads and a hot meal. Most people are happy with that most are not. Years ago people not only provided for them selves they shared with their neighbors in times of need! We still do that now but mostly for other countries like what is happening to Japan now. They need us!
In our time now we do need to look around in our neighborhood and when we see or hear that a family is in need we need to reach out and help. Only if it is a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread.
Love thy neighbor as thy self.
A friend in need id a friend indeed
Let’s get back to our old ways!

Praise be unto God for this one who is saved. Give thanks unto the Lord for all things. Yes it is a tragedy so many lives were destroyed but only if one is human do we feel a loss of lives. We can not create life, God can. Who are we to Judge God for the things we believe were wrong? Are we so omniscient we place ourselves above our Master and condemn Him for allowing these things to happen? Life begins and ends and not always on our terms or time table.
I can not contemplate a mind so warped one not only refuses to give thanks unto our Lord but condemns others for praising a good thing because what we perceive as bad things happened also.

Not condemning Barb, just pointing out some bizarre thinking. Praising God for a grace that saved one man out of thousands lost? I guess grace didn’t want to save the now 10,000 + who died? Or does grace only look at the silver lining and ignore the dark cloud? Simply put, the grace that saved that one lone man floating atop his roof, is the same grace that allowed thousands to drown.

I stick to praising the crew of the Choukai, the JSDF pilots, the ground forces, the volunteers.
I don’t see your god, or any other god of those, literally, millions of gods we have on this third planet of an unimportant solar system, haul water bottles. I don’t see him, her, it fly over time on a Blackhawk looking for survivors.

Iconoclast commented:
Well, if we can put the religious commentary aside, what is striking to me is not merely the man’s survival, but the congestion of that debris field 15 km from shore. In terms of the energy impact delivered to the coastal areas, that tsunami had to be packing forces well into ranges we normally use to describe the most horrific nuclear devices.
Jerry C commented:
@Steve
So you know everything about everyone who died in the tsunami? And you know everything about everyone who is affected by it? And therefore you can offer your judgement as to why there is/not grace involved based upon all your understanding (or lack thereof)?
What’s so hard to understand that by the grace of God the man survived? Whether or not he was saved by the grace of God, you have absolutely no knowledge. As far as the children dying, they all go to heaven. Pefect Grace. To all the other adults who perished, they will be rewarded/punished according to their deeds done on earth. Perfect Justice. God created all things and can determine who lives & who dies. Get over it. I’ll put my trust in an All-knowing, Pefectly Holy and Eternal God vs someone like you who is totally ignorant, fallible and finite.
Concerning the Flood during Noah’s day, God destroyed all land creatures, including every human being, except the 8 and those land animals who were on the arc. And it was through Noah’s progeny that Jesus Christ was born. If God had allowed wickedness to continue, there never would have been a Savior to save mankind from their sins. In His marvellous Grave, God chose to save them so that you and I could have a Savior. Yes, even you.
Steve commented:
Jerry,
Again, the grace that spared the man this flood is the same grace that allowed tens of thousands to drown. If you’re going to muddle that fact with God’s unknowable ways, then let’s not talk of grace at all. Let’s just simply say that God’s grace is no different than his non-grace. They are one in the same. You’re no different than Job’s friends. MORON!
Jerry C commented:
@#34-Steve-
“Let’s just simply say that God’s grace is no different than his non-grace. They are one in the same.”-No they are not. Just because you cannot understand or accept God’s grace, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Every human being has willingly sinned against his Creator and deserves destruction. It is God’s providence, His gift, who He decides to send grace upon. Maybe this particular guy was saved just so you’d even consider thinking about God and coming to salvation. Who really knows? You sure don’t because your mind is fallible & finite. I don’t know either, but I’d wager the reason is beyond you and I to comprehend. Romans 8:28
“You’re no different than Job’s friends.”-On the contrary, Job’s friends were the ones telling him to denounce God, which is exactly what you’re doing. Tells me you really don’t know the Bible which is probably why you hate God so much.
I would suggest you read the book of Job, until you understand that bad things happen to good people.
BTW-I’ll pray to the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob that He’ll open your heart to accept Jesus Christ and receive salvation. Shalom.
Steve commented:
“Every human being has willingly sinned against his Creator and deserves destruction. It is God’s providence, His gift, who He decides to send grace upon.”
So God saves us from himself? Wow, what a gracious God! And what you call providence and grace, I call capriciousness and arbitrary. If you wish to praise that, go right ahead…but I’d bet the farm you wouldn’t praise the same if it came from anyone else.
.
“On the contrary, Job’s friends were the ones telling him to denounce God, which is exactly what you’re doing. Tells me you really don’t know the Bible which is probably why you hate God so much.”
I think you’re confusing Job’s friends with Job’s wife, who told her husband to ‘curse God and die.’” It was the friends of Job were all speaking for God, defending God with inane reasoning…kinda like what you’re doing. Maybe you should read the book of Job again so you could know it as well as I do?
.
“BTW-I’ll pray to the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob that He’ll open your heart to accept Jesus Christ and receive salvation. Shalom.”
This still doesn’t address the issue raised in this thread – praising God for his grace which saved the poor wretch on his rooftop….the same grace which let thousands upon thousands drown in a flood. You think such grace is praiseworthy? Yep, that grace is as capricious as it is arbitrary. What a wonderful thing!….NOT!

For God soo loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that whosoever believed in him should not parish, but have eternal life.
The bible says we can count on two things DEATH and JUDGEMENT. Our lord and savior died on the cross, spikes droved thru his hands and feet, crown of thorns pieced his head and was hung out to die like a animal without mercy. He being God manifested in the flesh endured such a tragic death so that we could find salvation. What makes any of us better than he, why do we think we should live to be 500 years old and never experience any pain. If he being God endured such a painful death, should not we carry our cross. Bottom line of this note get saved, trust God, and I will see you in the after life. To God be the Glory. I pray that those who passed to the after life in this disaster was able to have a personal relationship with him, oh what a wonderful thing just to know him…..
