Apparently, the far left thinks FOX News is being funded by taxpayers.
In another weird display on the House floor today Rep. Jim McGovern urged his colleagues to ban advertising on FOX News.
Really, Jim… Really?
Congressman Jim McGovern(MA-3) says on the floor that defunding NPR because the content isn’t agreeable is a ‘lousy’ way to make decisions. But if the GOP wants to go down that road, “we should be fair and balanced in the way we do it,” and take away federal advertising dollars from FoxNews.
McGovern’s efforts were shot down in a straight party line vote.
FOX News reported:
A congressman smarting over legislation to defund National Public Radio tried to take out his frustration with a ban on federal dollars paying for advertising on Fox News, but the effort was rejected in a party-line committee vote.
Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., offered an amendment Wednesday night that would have prohibited funds from any federal agency from being used to advertise on the Fox News Channel.
“If my friends on the other side of the aisle want to strip funding from NPR because they believe — wrongly, in my view — that NPR is biased, then we should be given the same opportunity,” McGovern told the House Rules Committee…
…McGovern did not cite any studies or statistics on how much federal advertising money is spent on Fox News. He did not return requests for comment submitted by FoxNews.com.

Well, pass a law to says that NPR must receive the same amount of Federal funds as given to Fox. How’s that Rep McGovern? Fair enough?

Keep it up, dems!! You’re making it so easy!!!

I sent an e-mail to my representative supporting this! Hopefully this will give one of his aids a chuckle.

Boy, I bet Fox is shaking in their boots… LOL. NPR can now stand for No Public Resources. If it’s so wonderful, let it compete in the marketplace or kiss George Soros’s saggy, old butt. Is “McGovern” a cursed name?
Neo commented:
This is the equivalent of calling for an end to public financing of elections

He is obviously out of touch with reality. Won’t SOMEONE help that poor man? Surely, under some overpriced federal program or another……….

GREAT! I say let’s get to it. I’m sure FOX wouldn’t mind at all…

I apologize. He is my representative. I met him once and was totally unimpressed. He is a total squish and has no personality or real life experience. When he was challenged at an early townhall meeting, he told us to quit watching Fox because our facts were wrong. I campaigned for the other guy and will do it again until MA wakes up.
Gui LaDouche commented:
He said advertising like, (maybe an army ad or something). Listen again.

I love it when they demonstarte their insanity. If this was Sarah Palin saying this the news would be blasting how ignorant she is and she cant be trusted in office.
I just want the GOP to put the question out there… We neeed to cut billions and we have 137 news channels and the internet would you rather save a bunch of childrens free lunch or PBS/NPR 400 million ????? We cant afford both
bigkahuna commented:
Even though he said advertising…. The army or Navy or whatever dont have to advertise there they just do it because they are much more likely to find patriotic kids willing to join the military on fox than NPR/ PBS who basically hate them…and have no audience!
But if it gets rid of public funding of them I think fox could live without the minor advertising they get from them.

Why didn’t he include MSNBC and CNN in his rant? By only attacking Fox News, he implicitly admits that NPR is liberally biased. You can’t punish Fox News because it is “conservative” without punishing MSNBC for being “liberal”.

So does he mean no more Army ads at all, anywhere?
L.E. Liesner commented:
More proof that liberalism is a mental disease. Why aren’t people like this committed?

Do you research.. he was saying he wanted the Pentagon stop using advertising money w/ Fox News. If you would have watched the clip you would realize how stupid YOU are.
rm99 commented:
If I am not mistaken, the price the government pays for advertising is less than what Fox could sell that time for on the open market, so this moron would probably be doing Fox a favor. And I could then watch one channel free from Michelle Obama nagging me about every detail of my life and that of my child, so, win-win!

falcon commented:
So this guy wants to stop the government from advertising on Fox News. That’s not the same thing as funding a clearly liberal, clearly partisan broadcasting source. And what government “ads” have run on Fox News lately? Last time I checked, anytime a government agency wanted to place an ad on TV or radio, it was called a “public service announcement” and didn’t cost the government a dime to place (but probably hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce). So he wants to cut zero advertising expenditures back to – what? This guy is an ignoramus. If I could, I’d vote to defund him.

I didn’t know much about this guy, except that he’s an idiot, so I looked him up. From his “About” section of his official web page:
About Jim McGovern
Since his election in 1996, Congressman Jim McGovern has been widely recognized as a tenacious advocate for his district, a tireless crusader for change, and an unrivaled supporter for social justice and fundamental human rights.
Currently serving his eighth term in Congress, McGovern is a Minority Whip; is the second-ranking member on the powerful House Rules Committee, which sets the terms for debate and amendments on most legislation, and is a member of the House Agricultural Committee. In those roles, McGovern has secured millions of dollars in federal assistance for Central and Southeastern Massachusetts.

I quit right there – social justice, fundamental human rights (lib-speak for right to a house, healthcare, union wage job, abortions), lots of federal money funneled to his district, yada, yada, yada.
Good God.

“the far left thinks FOX News is being funded by taxpayers.”
No, the way I understood it, he wants to make it illegal for candidates who receive federal campaign matching funds to buy campaign ads on Fox.
Actually, that might backfire. A candidate likely to buy ads on Fox is probably republican and the ads are preaching to the choir anyway. This would force the candidate to buy ads on other media which has a chance of actually influencing someone who wouldn’t otherwise have seen the ad resulting in more votes for the candidate.
Or Fox could simply double their rates for candidates not receiving government funding and give equal time to opponents with government funding.
In the last election that would mean doubling the charge for Obama ads and giving away an equal amount of time in McCain ads.

Look if NPR goes private I wouldn’t care if the US advertises on it or not. Then the field would be level and the advertising rates would be set by the draw of the crowd on the stations.

This man is an embarrassment to the state of Massachusetts. No one of any sound mind can figure out how this man got elected. What Federal Agencies does Congressman McGovern cite? The Social Security administration? He’s a joke. He obviously spent more time with the FARC crew in Venezuela with his pal Hugo Chavez, which helped to further corrupted his tiny, warped brain. The best personal story I’ve heard to date: my husband works for a large pharmaceutical company in the Congressman’s district in Massachusetts. When Obamacare was being battered around, the Congressman set up business hours to speak personally with the hundreds of employees at the company in a conference room. Not one person went.
