Sky News reported:
Two US Air Force personnel have been killed after a gunman fired on a bus outside Frankfurt airport.
Air Force spokeswoman Major Beverly Mock said German police have the suspect in custody and that she could not release any further details on the victims until their next of kin have been told.
Two other people are said to have been injured in the incident and police have reportedly arrested a 21-year-old suspect from Kosovo.
The shots were fired at a bus carrying US military, police have confirmed, but the motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
It happened in front of terminal 2 of the airport, which is continental Europe’s second-biggest, a spokesman at the airport said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, speaking in Berlin, expressed sadness and said: “We have to do everything we can to find out what happened.”
The airport is not far from Ramstein air base, the headquarters of the US Air Force in Europe, and the US has several other bases in the region.
Police are not saying much about the motive.
Police spokesman Jürgen Linker said that officers had arrested a 21-year-old man from Kosovo, who was believed to be responsible for the shooting. Linker said it was too early to dismiss the possibility that it was a terrorist attack, and also said that the exact details of the attack remained unclear.
The Local added this:
Boris Rhein, the interior minister of the state of Hesse, said the man had apparently approached the bus and shot a US solider standing in front of the vehicle before killing the driver in his seat. He said the motive for the shooting remained unknown…
…The bus is one of several normally used to bring US military personnel to nearby American bases from Frankfurt Airport. The was no immediate statement from the US military.
