WaPo Owned Slate.com Calls Sarah Palin a C*** in Headline

Washington Post owned Slate.com used a crude misogynist wordplay to call Sarah Palin a c*** in a headline for an article published Tuesday about a supposed secret Sarah Palin Facebook account.

The headline reads: Sarah Palin Uses Alternate Facebook Accunt To Praise Sarah Palin

The article, posted in Slate’s “Slatest” section, is based on an article from Wonkette titled, Sarah Palin Has Secret ‘Lou Sarah’ Facebook Account To Praise Other Sarah Palin Facebook Account, that in a rare show of class for Wonkette does not use the sexist slur in the article.

Two commmenters at Slatest criticized Slate for the slur with one writing, “I’ve let go of my reflexive typo pointing in the Slatest, but Facebook accunt? on a Sarah Palin’s tidbit, come on guys, at least get a basic spellcheck function.”

Given Slate’s prominence as a respected part of the mainstream media with professional standards to uphold, an innocent typo of this magnitude with this subject is highly unlikely.(For the benefit of Media Matters senior blogger Eric Boehlert, try to imagine Slate “accidentallly” doing the same to Michelle Obama or Nancy Pelosi. It wouldn’t happen.)

During the 2008 presidential campaign, liberal activists paraded in public wearing t-shirts emblazoned in large lettering, “Sarah Palin is a c***” with the c-word fully spelled out.

The Slate article itself does not bear a timestamp, but the comments begin at 5:18 p.m., meaning the article with the offensive headline has been up for nearly four hours as of this writing.

Earlier today, Palin denied having a secret Facebook account, writing on her official Facebook page “On a side note, there’s always buzz about fake Sarah Palin Facebook and Twitter accounts. Please know that this is my only authentic Facebook account and SarahPalinUSA is my only authentic Twitter account. Pay no attention to the fake accounts and their fake messages.”

    I could see her having another account to post things for family and friends, but it makes no sense for her to have an account to comment on her public account. She gets thousands of comments on anything she puts there, so many that it is pointless to add to the comment stream.

    Most of these stories about Palin eventually are shown to be baseless or to be exaggerated if there is some basis to them, but the people who push them know that they can damage her even when they are false, and that is their goal.

    The article is about an account registered from her email address which is used to communicate with her brother. So yeah, that’s what you’re seeing.

    The Lou Sarah FB account was not registered from her email addy. It was registered from an email account that someone has said was a gmail addy set up by Palin. Palin says that the Lou Sarah account is not hers. I believe her.

    M, there is a difference between “quit” and hounded from office by baseless allegations that she was required to repeatedly defend at great financial cost to herself, since under AK state law the state did not provide her defense and outside organizations were not allowed to contribute. You might recall that there was a defense fund established to help her by conservatives and they caused trouble over that too.

    She didn’t “quit.” Her other choice was to be literally hounded into bankruptcy. When you “quit” with a gun to your head it isn’t exactly a resignation.

    A whole anti-Palin book authored by “insider” Frank Bailey, including thousands of emails from her time in office, was “leaked” and is now available online for anyone and everyone to download.     I really don’t think it was intentional. The Left is hemorrhaging moderate democrats and independent voters. It would be offend a great many woman voters if this slam toward palin was intentional. They can’t afford that now. Obama has to play toward the center to hopefully get the 10% of voters that he needs to win 2012. Yup, he needs only about 10% because his poll numbers don’t drop below 40% approval.
