The Tea Party Wins!… America Wins!
The GOP House kept their promise to America and announced today that they had cut $100 billion in spending this fiscal year.
The Hill reported:
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) on Friday evening introduced a revised 2011 government spending bill that the GOP said will cut at least $100 billion in spending this fiscal year, bowing to demands by Tea Party-backed House freshmen.
The continuing resolution funding the government after March 4 cuts deeply across all areas of domestic spending and singles out many programs for complete elimination.
In the CR $81 billion has been cut from non-security programs, and security-related programs have been reduced by $19 billion, compared to Obama’s 2011 budget request.
The legislation will increase funding for the Department of Defense by 2 percent over last year’s level.
“This evening, on behalf of House Republicans, Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers introduced a Continuing Resolution that will reduce spending by at least $100 billion in the next 7 months – a historic effort to get our fiscal house in order and restore certainty to the economy,” Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said in a statement.
“At a time when unemployment is too high and economic growth is elusive in part because of the uncertainty created by our skyrocketing debt, this legislation will mark the largest spending cut in modern history and will help restore confidence so that people can get back to work. These are not easy cuts, but we are finally doing what every other American has to do in their households and their businesses, and that’s to begin a path of living within our means,” he said.

The US government is estimated to run a deficit of around $1.5 trillion this FY. Cut another $1400 billion and I’ll be impressed.

It may not be an impressive start, but it is a start in the right direction.
BTW, before anyone gets excited about the GOP cuts I suggest they view this video to put things in perspective;

Dude…$100,000 million…just 7% of the total deficit…7%…how is this a victory?! We need to get serious about spending cuts. NOW

CR would slash EPA, White House energy office
House Republicans threw down the gauntlet at the Obama administration’s energy and environmental agenda Friday night, proposing to defund the White House energy adviser’s office and block EPA from regulating greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to slashing the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by $3 billion – nearly twice as much as they originally proposed – GOP lawmakers included language in the continuing resolution to strip the agency of its ability to implement climate change rules.
And despite the fact that Obama’s energy and climate adviser Carol Browner is leaving the administration, the bill would defund the post of “Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change, or any substantially similar position.”

Might be a good start on cuts, but the House Republicans are forgetting their duty to pass a genuine budget, not just yet another continuing resolution. IIRC, that was one of the things we were whacking the Dems on — dereliction of duty by failing to pass a budget. Now the Republicans are doing the same! Its shameful! Boehner, Cantor & Co. need to be called on this!

Now they need to defund Michelle Antoinette’s overblown staff. There is no reason in this world that the American Taxpayer should foot the bill for more than a single secretary for FLOTUS in light of the fact that the “first lady” has no official title, no official position, no official portfolio, and no official sphere of influence. Let her pay for her staff out of her own pocket.

This is a drop in the bucket, and the left is already freaking out over it. I have a cousin who just posted a lengthy whine about these cuts on her Facebook page. It’s going to be a long, uphill battle folks …

They should have non stop cutting until the unemployment rate in Washington DC and the surrounding suburbs equals that of the worst state. The place is now booming due to the extra trillions they have been handing out. Stop it now! 100 Billion is a drop in the bucket.

Completely misleading headline, as the bill was introduced……………….that’s all. Funding remains the same until this bill is passed.

I went to the Social Security Administration today to get numbers for our adopted daughters, and they were closed at 4:15. It turns out that their hours are 9:00AM to 4:00PM Monday through Friday. That’s a seven hour day before lunch and breaks. My parents were farmers, my husband owns his own business, and I taught at a private school until I had children. What person in the private sector gets to work those hours? I just wonder what the pay and benefits are. Government must be cut to the bone!

That was the 100 billion for January. Now do 100 billion for February, then for March, then for April etc.

When you start to put a ship in reverse, it will be slow at first, until it gains speed; especially when you have democraps still trying to go forward at full speed. I give the repubs credit, it appeared that they might go all wobbly on keeping their promise of 100 billion cut, but they have come together in strength. Now they just have to pass thirteen appropriations bills and force the budget cuts on the democraps.

….oooo….wow….time to celebrate….
Get a life!!! What really is 100 billion compared to almost 4 trillion budget??? PEANUTS!!!!
If you really wanted to celebrate…how about pushing to put the budget back to 2007? That would be significant…a quarter of the budget reduced unlike the peanuts they disgarded….
Get a life morons!!!

I will accept the 100B until Sept 2011. I want to see 500B cut for the next full year and every year until we have a balanced budget and this deficit is eliminated. R’s get serious with the entitlements as well as cutting PUBLIC sector staff, who should probably be cut by 75%. Eliminate ENTIRE departments that have no value, FCC, EPA, Education, et al. If you want to be re-elected, you need to show the PUBLIC you mean business. Start with defunding all Foreign aid, UN funding (kick them out of the US), NPR, IMF, and every porky “grant” and “entitlement” program that exists. Let the PUBLIC vote on what we want to fund. This is the problem with our government, we don’t even KNOW where our money goes.
