Lara Logan is lucky she’s alive.
Her liberal belief system almost got her killed on Friday. This talented reporter will never be the same.
Why did this attractive blonde female reporter wander into Tahrir Square last Friday? Why would she think this was a good idea? Did she not see the violence in the square the last three weeks? Did she not see the rock throwing? Did she miss the camels? Did her colleagues tell her about the Western journalists who were viciously assaulted on the Square? Did she forget about the taunts from the Egyptian thugs the day before? What was she thinking? Was it her political correctness that about got her killed? Did she think things would be different for her?
CBS News says Lara Logan, shown covering the reaction in Cairo’s Tahrir Square the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, was attacked Friday and suffered a brutal beating and sexual assault before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. (AOL.com)
Peaceful Egyptian protesters screamed “Jew! Jew!” as they beat and sexually assaulted CBS reporter Lara Logan at Tahrir Square last Friday.
The New York Post reported:
“60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan was repeatedly sexually assaulted by thugs yelling, “Jew! Jew!” as she covered the chaotic fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo’s main square Friday, CBS and sources said yesterday.
The TV crew with Logan, who is also the network’s chief foreign correspondent, had its cameras rolling moments before she was dragged off – and caught her on tape looking tense and trying to head away from a crowd of men behind her in Tahrir Square.
“Logan was covering the jubilation . . . when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration,” CBS said in a statement. “It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy.
“In the crush of the mob, [Logan] was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers.
“She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning,” the network added. “She is currently in the hospital recovering.”
A network source told The Post that her attackers were screaming, “Jew! Jew!” during the assault. And the day before, Logan had told Esquire.com that Egyptian soldiers hassling her and her crew had accused them of “being Israeli spies.” Logan is not Jewish.
Lara Logan is lucky she’s not dead.

There are victims and then there are “victims.” A woman raped walking home from work is a victim. A woman who knowingly walks into a lion’s den is not exactly a victim.
My father (who allowed me to do just about anything) told me every day of my life growing up that “if you walk through a mud puddle, you are going to get dirty.” And he was right. It doesn’t take too many smarts or too much research to realize that, position at CBS not withstanding, a blonde Western reporter in Western dress without so much as a head scarf was not the prime candidate to send into a howling mob of male, muslim demonstrators. Kind of like sending a sheep to slaughter.
Her bosses should be horsewhipped for putting her in that situation. And she got a very hard lesson on the limits of political correctness and when it might be appropriate to Just Say No.

I hate to say it but Lara Logan reminds me of… me. Long long ago in a land far far away an idealistic 18 yr old didn’t know if he could bring himself to kill another human being. When the bullets started flying it took me a little while to realize that the “poor Vietnamese peasant”, with whom I had no personal grudge was out to kill me. Armed with that knowledge and and M-16 I managed to survive the first of two duty tours in S.E. Asia.
I got my first, and thankfully non fatal, lesson from the school of hard knocks.

Reporters with jobs to do do not get a free pass when they put themselves in harm’s way, even though they sometimes appear to feel that they do. Witness Daniel Pearl, Steve Centani and many more. Several male reporters had already been assaulted trying to report on that mob. That had made the news worldwide when this woman went into the square.
ANY Western woman who inserted themselves into that mob, reporter or not, was likely to be assaulted, particularly those foolish enough to go into the mob in Western clothing with uncovered hair. This isn’t the first time that a Western female reporter has been raped by a frenzied mob. If this woman didn’t have the sense to know that then she really shouldn’t be let out of the house alone.

Consequently, you might want to look in the mirror before casting stones at others who might question her level of common sense.
On a good note – CBS now reports that the attack “was not a rape” – and that is good news. However, the attack was still described as “brutal” and required a 3-4 day stay in the hospital – so I think CBS owes everyone a more detailed description of what actually happened to Ms. Logan than what has been released so far –
CBS apparently was going to sit on the entire story until other news outlets got wind of the story and were planning on running it.

That said, defending General Stanley McChrystal after his Rolling Stoner interview is not a good indicator of one’s political leanings. After all, McChrystal, himself, is a liberal (he voted for Obama and even banned Fox News from the TVs at his headquarters), yet he still gave the Obama-bashing RS interview. And while almost all conservatives hailed McChrystal as a hero after learning of the interview and the trouble it got him into, there were a few of us perceived him to be more a fool than a hero. You both seemed to have missed the point, this lady was given an assignment by her network, in doing so she was tragically assaulted. Given the other incidents leading up to her attack, someone above her made a gross miscalculation, and she paid the price. The warning signs where ignored, why? Lara Logan is one person but she is one that represents our USA as did those that were killed in the 9-11 attack. It would be appropriate for Obama to condemn the attack and freeze future funding to Egypt.

I spent many times growing up defending one of my older sisters from her thug boyfriends. She liked the wild type so some were pretty muscular because they worked out everyday. A few were just plain down-right nuts. But no matter what, she was my sister. Flesh and blood. When she called me, I came to her rescue. One day when I was helping move her stuff out of her ex-boyfriend’s house (while he was supposed to be away), he showed up with a shotgun. While my sister was cussing him out making him more agitated, I stood between them trying to calm both down. As time went on, she eventually went back with the same guy. Here’s the lesson you libturds just cannot understand:you play with fire and you’re going to get burned. Period. Conservatives, like myself, think critically and plan ahead to reduce the amount of risk before putting ourselves into a bad situation and take 100% responsibility for it. We don’t blame others for our poor descisions. Although she’s not to blame for the assault, she’s absolutely 100% responsible for allowing herself in that situation and taking the risks, but unfortunately, suffered the consequences.
When I read the article, she reminded me of my sister. Some people will never learn, even from a horrible experience like this. My sister still has issues with boyfriends to this day. And it’s no surprise to me anymore, she’s a liberal.

Whatever questions, all them read as rhetorical, flow from that display the sort of thinking that can only be described as “ugly”.
As for what actually caused the attack, Hoft says it was “Her liberal belief system”. Others might say it was because she’ a woman, or that this is how Muslims naturally are, or because Lillith and Eve both proved poor wives to Adam. I myself could make the argument its because the waxing moon was in the House of the Ram on the Spring Solistice.
Guess what? Any reason you can conceive bleeds down to this simple truth: the world is a damned dangerous place, and these attacks can and do happen, with and without provocation, every hour of every day, in every corner of the planet. Nevertheless it is something any sane and civilized human being can and should condemn, irregardless of circumstances.

I don’t even know what political correctness means in this context, let alone whether or not it motivated her actions on Friday. If Hoft or anyone else wants to make the case that without political correctness this attack wouldn’t have happened no one is stopping them. You actually have to, ya know, MAKE A CASE though.

How about Matt Goldsby, Jimmy Simmons, Kathy Simmons, and Kaye Wiggins?

I’m a fan of Lara Logan and I agree with this article. Other countries were evacuating their citizens from this place weeks before. Journalists were targeted – jailed, assaulted, injured, killed. The whole focus of a lot of the stories are on the sexual assault which is abhorrent to be sure. My point has been exactly that – in a war zone anything can happen. Sexual assault is another means of assault. Most people commenting sit in their comfortable living rooms and pass judgement on either Lara or the crowd for what happened. But common sense dictates that when there is a violent crowd (and/or sharks frenzy), that bad things can happen. And something bad happened to Lara. Lara was brave (or stupid – depending on how you look at it) to go into that situation. She has been lucky in the past not to have been severely injured or killed. (Just look at Steve Irwin). And she is lucky now not to have been injured or killed. However, all people seem to be doing is fingerpointing instead of being sensible about it.

No, but when soldiers get injured or killed, we understand it was in the line of duty and don’t go blaming the enemy and blasting anyone who dares to mention that Lara placed herself in a dangerous situation.
