ABC interviewed a friend of the Tucson gunman, Caitlin Parker.
Yesterday Caitlin tweeted that Loughner was “far left” and “quite liberal.”
If you thought that ABC would bring this up in their interview… You would be wrong.

The entertainment/state run media business has the responsibility for the sick person acting out his fantasies. Go to a vidieo game store and read the package contents and you will see each one compete for more violence. The current video being advertised at length on cable contains massive violence with a segment showing a frontend loader being used to pick the numerous bodies and dump them for disposal. People under 25 do not watch Matthews, Obie, Beck and O’Reilly. They do purchse billions of dollars of violent vidieo games and identify with the fantasy. If you are of a certain age, you also remember that JFK’s assassin was supposed to be a right winger – because Texas was “Right Wing Heaven.” There was also, if I recall correctly, shouts of faux anger about hate speech. Sorry to disagree with Ann Althouse, but the “above the fray” approach was the way that George Bush handled the claim that he lied about WMDs in Iraq (when the belief that Saddam had them was universal). A lie has to be met with the truth because the unaided truth doesn’t stand a chance if no one utters it.
It is, however, not a good idea for the Right to make lists of Leftist “eliminationist rhetoric.” That’s playing the Left’s game by the Left’s rules and all you accomplish is letting the best cut-and-paster win a game without getting to the truth. The fact is that political rhetoric in today’s world only animates organized groups who are already in the violence business, such as the Muslims seeking to go on Jihad, and when that happens, the MSM denies it.
The way to handle this is to focus on the killer: is he a ideologue or a nut? If he has a political bias, it’s inevitable that that will be used to indict the group he adheres to. If he’s a nut (and the two are not mutually exclusive) it should be used to point out the political biases of the commentators. I think that this event will actually do more damage to the tattered reputation of the MSM than to either the Left or the Right.

I’m a big fan and player of Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, the Grand Theft Auto series, and more.
And I’m a strict contitutionalist conservative. Go figure. I’ve been playing bloody games since Cosmi’s “Forbidden Forest” on the Commodore 64. Or the original “Collosal Cave Adventure” text-based game, bloody as hell, in text.
If you’ve ever played these games, you’d understand that they do not promote Leftist ideology. Not the ones I play. Not the ones I mentioned. The Fallout series, in all it’s quests and side-quests and events and style, is decidedly conservative, and respectful of both gun-rights groups (the Boomers in F:NV), evangelical Christians (the missionary in the Point Lookout DLC), and America itself. This all happened while I was taking a nap yesterday, and there were already 3 posts up at GP with hundreds of comments when I first heard of it, so I didn’t get to see the rapidity you mention, of folks flocking to BoyBlue @ Kos. That part confuses me more than any of it — mainly since I wasn’t here to see it go down. I tried reading all the threads, but, not in realtime makes it harder to understand for me.

I just know that there are more messages of leftist propaganda on the backs of cereal boxes and the milk cartons the kids get at school than there are in videogames. (although I have indeed seen a few egregious examples, back in the days of 8-bit Nintendo especially.)
It could be that I had parents who instilled in me a love of life, a reasonable mind, and a sense of reality, that I don’t go out and jack cars and kill police officers.
As an aside: try and whack some cops in GTA sometime. See the results. Your character won’t live long. As it should be.
I put TV, film, the pop-music industry (excluding Country), at the top of the heap for blame. I’ve said before that these pushers of Progressive philosophy are worse than crack cocaine….since crack cocaine doesn’t lead to Auschwitz and Treblinka. Television for kids is child abuse, as are most hollywood films today.
There is a marked difference between fantasy violence and real violence, which should be instilled into kids at a very young age. There were no videogames in the 1950′s, but every kid worth his salt played cops and robbers, and cowboys and indians, and war. Should we outlaw toy guns? I don’t think so. We should teach kids the value of guns, and their proper place. In the 1960′s, kids were reading Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings. There’s some violent stuff in there!
What was the outcome of that lawsuit, by the way?
The problem, as I see it, is PARENTING. I listened to Ozzy and AC/DC, yet never was even tempted to dabble in the occultic arts, or to do some “dirty deeds….dirt cheap.” Because I had good parents with morals and discernment, and who instilled those in me, along with a healthy dose of Biblical wisdom. Most of it I still have.
Now, if you’ll kindly excuse me, I’m going to go kill some supermutants with my gatling-laser and some well-placed plasma-mines.
