As a final insult to the American people before she hands over the gavel, Speaker Pelosi told reporters today that, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority.”

FOX Nation reported:

At her final press conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.”

The numbers tell a different story.

When the Pelosi Democrats took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the national debt stood at $8,670,596,242,973.04. The last day of the 111th Congress and Pelosi’s Speakership on December 22, 2010 the national debt was $13,858,529,371,601.09 – a roughly $5.2 trillion increase in just four years. Furthermore, the year over year federal deficit has roughly quadrupled during Pelosi’s four years as speaker, from $342 billion in fiscal year 2007 to an estimated $1.6 trillion at the end of fiscal year 2010.

What a horrible woman.

(The Captain’s Comments)
Thank you, Speaker Pelosi.
Please have your office cleaned out by 5 PM.
Thank you.

  1. The woman must be completely insane! There is no other explanation for trying to pass off what the 111th Congress has done as in any whatsoever “pay as you go” or “deficit reducing.”

  2. She can’t even lie well! That’s just plain stupidity. Of course, that’s apt given how her Congress has performed. Deficits of over $1 trillion per year for 3 fiscal years and they’ve tried to REDUCE the deficit? Geez, at least Lindsay Lohan has the decency to go to rehab for her mistakes.

  3. If you tell a big enough lie long enough Etc. This is one wacked out woman.

  4. Now ive seen that chart many times before. I suppose you all like being lied to or suffer ODS so badly facts are irrelevent. The first red bar for 2009 purported to be obamas first year is the budget voted on in oct 2008 by bush. sorry folks

  5. What do you expect from her? She’s insane. She’s a liar full of stories she makes up in her head to justify her corruptness.

  6. Well, she rolled all her dice on Obamacare, betting the American people would love it, and that it would stand as the foundation for one hundred years of liberal ascendency, and that her name would be carved into the very top of it.

    Oops.

So, I personally don’t blame her for sticking to her popguns. She can hardly say, “well, I guess we really screwed the pooch there, with Obamacare, huh? Sorry!”

It’s fun to watch though, because you know that she knows every word she says is contrived nonsense forced on her due to her own failures.

  7. GOOD RIDDANCE! NOW TAKE THAT GAVEL AWAY FROM HER!
    Let the investigations begin…

song sing a song make it loud for the whole wide world to hear…dum da dee da da..

  8. I beg you to prove me wrong. please!

  9. She once said “you’ll have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it” Whooooooo. eeerie. she’s in la la land. I guess people are finding out what’s in it alright and they do not like it.

  10. Poor grunting, straining PeePee.

Here’s how it works, PeePee. You make an assertion… you have to back it up.

    We await your proof.

  11. Our entire Government is filled with Nancy Pelosis. They should all be placed under arrest and sent to Gitmo.

What simply amazes me is how many, Democrats and Republicans included, have sold out their own country.

    It’s diabolical!!

  17. Pete, again you seem to have a real problem with basic literacy. The 2009 BUDGET and the 2009 DEFICIT are not the same thing at all. Perhaps some basic accounting might stand you in good stead.

  18. The sudden deficit increase in FY 2008 reflects the first budget passed by the new Democrat majority Congress that was elected in 2006. They were sworn in January 2007, worked on the budget that year, and it took effect in 2008.

By the time the budget is presented for signing, the President can either sign it, or not sign it.

The last major spending initiative with Republican input was TARP– which is actually on the way to being paid back. The Obama stimulus package and everything else that followed is owned by the Democrats lock, stock and barrel.

Pete did you support the Speakers last days spent in a lavish hotel in Hawaii on the taxpayers dime?

  21. Let me help you, PeePee.

The more than $3 trillion federal budget for 2009 that Bush will unveil is his final opportunity to shape the priorities of the government before leaving office a year from now. Lawmakers and their aides say Bush has little leverage left to force his proposals on a recalcitrant Congress.

But even in the unlikely event that he were to get his way, the budget deficit would jump sharply, from $163 billion in 2007 to about $400 billion in 2008 and 2009 – partly the result of the new economic stimulus plan. Such deficits would rival the record deficit of $412 billion of 2004, though administration allies argue that shortfalls of that size now represent a smaller share of the overall economy and are thus more manageable.

    [...]

The president had success last year using his veto to force lawmakers to trim back spending bills, but this year Democrats are better positioned to simply wait for the next president, congressional aides said. That may mean less ferocity than usual in the budget battle as both sides wait to see the results of November’s election.

My my, I wonder who did all that spending?

  22. Facts arent your friends i see. I dont know what else to say. Ill try one more time the first red bar 2009 was voted on under bush not obama.

  23. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

    Speaker Pelosi says:
“Deficit Reduction Has Been a High Priority”
“America’s Health Care is my Highest Priority”
    “Jobs are my high priority”

    Blah, blah, blah

Pelosese Translation: high priority = bun wad

  24. Now PeePee,

Bush’s budget called for a 2009 budget deficit of $400 billion.

Check the bar. It’s three times that.

I ask you again, who spent all that money?

  25. Here’s a hint, PeePee.

The Congress – both houses – was under the firm control of the Democrats during 2008 when “Bush’s” 2009 budget was passed. Since the President has no input on the budget, nor does he have a line item veto, it is the Congress that owns the budget.

Clinton needed Russia’s help settling that pesky little war in Kosovo. He also had no easy solution to the trade crash. During the 1990s, Clinton also sponsored a so-called trade boom with China that actually busted America. Hundreds of billions of dollars flowed out of America in the largest single trade deficit in history. This was CLINTON’S doing not BUSH. Ever heard of the Legacy Black Beret? Chinese could bid on US contracts. http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/3/20/190717.shtml.

  46. Hey, let’s say for the sake of argument that we grant Petey the Leftist Drone’s point, that Obama’s first budget was actually Bush’s. Fine.

So… that’s one year. Tell me, Petey, how do you explain every year since? C’mon, drone. I want to hear you justify the nightmarish spending under this president and congress.

You won’t. You can’t. There is simply no excuse for what is going on in Washington right now, and you know it. So instead you try to deflect attention away from that fact. Sorry, sweetness, we’re paying attention to the man behind the curtain, and his name is Barack Obama.

  47. “After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: pay-as-you-go, no new deficit spending. Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt.”
    -Nancy Pelosi, January 4, 2007

“John, it’s been your president who you said you agreed with 90 percent of the time who presided over this increase in spending. This orgy of spending and enormous deficits; you voted for almost all of his budgets.”
    -Barack Obama, 9/26/2008

  48. Pelosi:

“Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.”

She’s been just about as successful at it as she’s been at fostering job creation – which is to say, not at all.

Normally, an abject failure like her would slink away in shame issuing apologies, if it had any integrity. Too bad for the Ds she’ll be around to remind everyone how its madness to trust the Ds to do anything right, and of the inherent recklessness and corruption of their despicable political party in its current configuration. The Ds badly need to purge all the socialists in order to be electable again, but of course, that would leave no one to turn out the lights.

  49. Peepee,

  50. pete t commented (#24): “Facts arent your friends i see. I dont know what else to say. Ill try one more time the first red bar 2009 was voted on under bush not obama.”

You don’t know when to stop, do you? Are you not aware that the budget that is passed is often altered (always involving increased spending by the idiots in Washington) during the actual fiscal year? Since Congress and the White House were controlled by the Democrats in 2009, whom do you think added additional spending and made decisions that depressed economic activity and tax revenues? It certainly wasn’t the Republicans, who had no power.

For example, you’re conveniently forgetting something that is included in that first red bar that was passed almost entirely by the Democrats and signed by Obama in February 2009 after Bush left office — the stimulus package that at best had no net impact on the economy and at worst made things substantially worse on both the spending side and the revenue side. Approximately $350 billion of this stimulus counted towards the $1.4 trillion deficit in 2009. As a reminder, no Republicans in the House and only three Republican Senators voted for the stimulus. Moreover, because the so-called stimulus was so poorly constructed and thus didn’t help the economy or lower unemployment, federal revenues were further depressed an additional $400 billion (though at least some of that tax revenue shortfall likely would have occurred whether Republicans or Democrats were in control). These are reasons why the deficit ballooned in 2009 more than three times it was projected to under Bush’s final budget.

Because of the severe downturn that took place in 2008, it is true that the annual deficit in 2009 would have been the worst in U.S. history whether Bush or Obama were President and whether a stimulus package were passed or not. Bush’s budget called for a deficit of around $400 billion in FY 2009 but that would undoubtedly have been significantly higher whether any stimulus were passed or not. But the Democrats wanted the stimulus the way that it was constructed (i.e., mostly lacking any stimulative effect as it was largely composed of payoffs to various core constituencies of the Democratic Party, such as labor unions, academia, and big cities run by Democratic mayors) and passed it with very few Republican votes. The overall impact of the stimulus on both the spending (increased) and revenue (decreased) levels for 2009 through today undoubtedly was a major reason why the annual deficits have been so high while Obama has been in office. Therefore, stop trying to put the primary blame for the recent annual federal deficits on Bush and Republicans because it’s simply not true. Oh, Bush & Co. deserve some blame for spending too much while they were in control prior to 2007, but one has to be intellectually dishonest like yourself to attempt to place most if not all the blame for the deficit situation in 2009 on the Bush Administration, like you’ve attempted to do here.

Maybe at some point in time you won’t be so blinded by partisanship that you will actually have an independent thought based on facts and reality instead of coming here and spouting Left-wing talking points. Of course, I’m not holding my breath waiting for this to happen.

  53. Obama: Not Always a Fan of Upping Debt Ceiling

While President Obama’s economic advisor Austin Goolsbee argued Sunday that a refusal by the Senate to increase the government’s debt ceiling (currently $14.3 trillion) would be “catastrophic” and a sign of “insanity,” that’s not the position the president has held in the past.

Here are Obama’s thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

In 2007 and in 2008, when the Senate voted to increase the limit by $850 billion and $800 billion respectively, Obama did not bother to vote. (He did vote for TARP, which increased the debt limit by $700 billion.)

At the beginning of Fiscal Year 2008, the national DEBT was $9 Trillion.
At the beginning of Fiscal Year 2011, the national DEBT was $13.5 Trillion.

For those years, Pelosi/Reid/Obama added $1.5 Trillion each year averaged DEBT, while “deficit reduction has been a high priority”.

Obama signed it in private after the democrats added increased spending across the board, can’t remember the percentage, think it was around 13%…… and, it had over 8,000 of those dastardly earmarks in it too? Line by line? He didn’t do that line by line thingy he promised. And, gasp, he released a…….signing statement, right out of the gate, promises broken and, the FY 2009 redline is is owned by Obama, Pelosi and Reid.

“In a sign of his discomfort with the bill, Obama signed it in private. He declined to answer a shouted reporter’s question about why.

Obama also released a “signing statement” in which he said several of the bill’s provisions raised constitutional concerns. This week, Obama criticized his predecessor, George W. Bush, for frequently issuing such statements upon signing bills into law.

arrived at the party late, but THANK YOU!!

    ==

  79. Dear Pete,
Neither Pelosi nor wonder boy Obama voted against the budget of 2009. So, I guess they were for it. In my life time I don’t remember Democrats ever being for any budget cuts, (Ok, You can mention their desire to cut the Defense Department so that the Soviet Union can bomb the United States off the map.); and I’m as old as the hills. As for real budget cuts, you have to go back to the 1920′s before the Progressive Republican Hoover became President. Yes, Republicans are Progressives. Today we call them RINO’s such as Ford, Bush, Bush, McCain, and Powell.

  80. “Deficit reduction has been a high priority.”

If so, then she and her fellow commies have FAILED big time!

  81. Most of the current national debt was incurred during the terms of Presidents Reagan, H.W. Bush, W. Bush and now Obama.

  82. For anyone interested in budget, outlays, revenue, deficits and debts:

    http://www.marktaw.com/culture_and_media/TheNationalDebt.html

Solid Republicans and Democrats paid down our huge debt after World War II, while at the same time building the greatest nation and economy in world history. The debt was under $1 trillion in the late 70s. It’s now $14 trillion. It was $12 trillion in Oct 2009 (end of budget yr).

Every President since 1980 (except Mr. Clinton) has added significantly to the national debt, leaving us where we are today.

  83. Jeffery: “Most of the current national debt was incurred during the terms of Presidents Reagan, H.W. Bush, W. Bush and now Obama.”

And of the 22 years thus represented, Democrats controlled the House for 14 of them, or roughly two-thirds of that time.

  84. HH,

So the President has no impact? Are you saying that Obama is not to blame for the deficit the past 2 years? Anyway, spending as a % of GDP stays remarkably constant. Revenues depend on income tax rates. Reagan, Bush II cut taxes drastically, revenues went down. Clinton raised taxes, revenues went up. Obama cut taxes, and coupled with the worst recession since the Depression, revenues went way down.

Did the Republicans support Clinton’s tax increases? Is that how Clinton started generating surpluses? Did the Dems support the big tax cuts?

To reduce the deficit, will the current Republicans propose to cut Social Security, Medicare, Defense and/or will they raise taxes?

Spending was higher while Reagan, Bush and Bush II were in office. Revenues were lower. This leads to deficits. Spending was lower and revenues higher under Clinton, leading to the short- lived surplus.

  85. Well, good luck with that thinking, sparky. Here’s a number for you: 11-02-10.

  86. I’m glad to see that she’s already moved on to a successful new career – stand up comedienne. She’s already come up with what must be the world’s greatest joke!
