Dang, he’s good!
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told Paul Gigot at The National Press Club this week that Republicans must offer the country a clear choice by 2012 between Obama’s “debt ruin” or “American exceptionalism.”
Freedom’s Lighthouse posted the video:

From the video: Rep. Paul Ryan in an interview with Paul Gigot at the National Press Club that Republicans must find a way to set before the nation by 2012 the stark choice between the path we are on – “Debt Ruin” – and the better way of “American Exceptionalism.” Ryan describes this choice as clearly and effectively as I have heard it done.

  1. It would help if the Republicans could start fielding potential candidates who actually understand that. Too many of the old guard don’t think the world has changed.

  2. What is so wonderful Paul Ryan knows what he talks about and has the ability to make most any one understand what he is saying.

  3. Fantastic guy. I know him.

  4. I agree with Ginger.

  5. The type of ‘young gun’ that I’ve been waiting for! I’m so sick and tired of the same old faces and BS mongers of yesteryear….in both parties! Let’s let some of this new blood have a crack at succeeding where the ‘old boys’ have failed.

  6. The repubs had better fight Imam Obama tooth and nail or our republic is finished and there will be no country left to fight for.

  7. We have to grab this guy, hoist him onto our shoulders and march him into the White House, weather he wants to run or not. He has the intellect, the personality, the understanding of the issues and the devotion to a constitutional approach to personal freedom and free enterprise to make him the single best person to be President during the difficult times ahead.

  8. These things are carefully orchestrated. The Repubs have a battle framework for 2012 and you’ve just heard one of the main memes: Debt Ruin Vs American Exceptionalism.

  9. America will only be “exceptional” when America is once again on the same side as the God of Israel, and when America again realizes that America exists “Under God.”

Until then, we can talk ’til we turn blue in the face about how “exceptional” we are. Doesn’t make us so. We’re 1900′s Europe without He Who Made Us Great.

I see no sign of that happening. Even with TEA Partiers, God is secondary to Government Process and Voting and Politician-Saviors. Mentions of God and his Sovereignty and His Grace and His Protection and His PROVIDENCE, are mysteriously missing from TEA Party missives and speeches. As the TEA Party endeavors to emulate and ape the Founders of this nation, they forget this central tenet. God’s sovereignty, grace, protection, and providence are OMNIPRESENT in the writings of this nation’s forefathers.

Now? No, we don’t want to offend the Charles Johnsons in our party, so we’ll pretend that Politicians are the answer, and that the POWER IS IN US.

  10. #6…… WE are going to fight the fraud too!

btw…. Some one do some figures. Did you realize that a lot of the senators (demo-rats) are really, really old! Some probaly will not make it till 2012, to even run for another 6 year term! Think about it! A lot of the old socialist pigs will be gone! So in those states we need to get started and groom the right person to take those seats. Don’t forget the old farts in congress too!

  11. “What is so wonderful Paul Ryan knows what he talks about and has the ability to make most any one understand what he is saying…”

…and to make Obama look like a bumbling idiot trying to debate him on Obamacare.

  12. P.S. I like Ryan’s term of “managed decline”. Because that is what we will be doing if we don’t repeal Obamacare.

  13. Paul Ryan has been in Congress 10 years already.

  14. Taqiyy,

If the GOP and the tea party listens to you and puts God above all else, we’ll lose.
This is a democracy with separation of church and state. Keep religion OUT of politics or you will turn many conservatives and moderates away from the party.

  15. We are a Republic……. for which it stands … one nation under God with Liberty and Justice for all.

  16. Good grief OT:

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2011/01/u-s-passport-mother-father.html

“No more “Mother” and “Father” for the Obama administration’s State Department.

“The department has announced that it is replacing the traditional parental designations on its passport applications (see above) with the more contemporaneously correct “Parent One” and “Parent Two.”

“This takes effect when new forms come out Feb. 1.”

  17. That’s fine. If you want to be ruled by Democrats keep pushing religion. You will lose the moderates, the independents and the youth vote. I guarantee it.

  18. @9 — Such a strange name for such remarkably wise comments. I concur.

  19. Nobody is “pushing religion”. Contessa, do you have any idea what the Constitution actually SAYS with regard to RELIGION??

Seriously. The only thing the Constitution SAYS about religion is that the Congress cannot make a law establishing a religion, nor can Congress restrict the free exercise of religion.

THAT IS ALL THE CONSTITUTION SAYS.

  20. Contessa61 — Your remarks betray an unprincipled and pragmatic approach to government. What you’re saying is that America should abandon its heritage and Founding ethos and that politicians, in order to be elected, must appeal to the lowest common denominator, the prevailing atheistic worldview that perculates throughout our universities, Hollywood, our courts, and our government. I guess you really do not have a solid grounding in American history, or else you would think twice before abandoning the FOUNDING of what has made America great. I recommend Ben Hart’s website, http://escapetyranny.com. You can download his book, Faith and Freedom: The Christian Roots of American Liberty.

Moreover, let me offer a little pragmatism myself: the Christian Right is done, finished, caput, with supporting/voting for candidates who have merely the veneer of social conservative credentials; they realize that they’ve been played for fools these past 30 years and will NEVER again vote for someone who talks out of both sides of his mouth. Mark my words, there will be a MASS EXODUS of religious right voters if the RNC and their cronies are so stupid as to field another establishment wolf in sheep’s clothing.

If I were an independent I’d get on board the Christian right’s train, or it will be bye-bye America. We’re not ENABLING moderates any longer; all it’s gotten us is massive debt, unaccountable government and gargantuan bureaucracies.

  21. Ginger @10, writes: “old socialist pigs.”

    You got that right, ginger.

  22. Darcy, I agree. I was a Dem from birth until Clinton. I recognized that the LIBTARD party did not share my values. In fact most LIBTARDS HAVE NO VALUES. But SINCE CLINTON, the LEFT has become unhinged. Clinton wasn’t a NUT JOB. He was a flawed, selfish, me first, egotist, who had left leaning, but mostly PRAGMATIC ideas. From Robert Kennedy all the way to Clinton, ALL of the DEMOCRAT/LIBTARD Party candidates, were somewhat liberal, but mostly God fearing, mostly rational (though LIBTARD) politicians. They didn’t back FRUITY NUTTY SH!T. The LIB/DEM base was PREDICATED on CIVIL RIGHTS/large INDUSTRIAL UNIONS/and PEACENIKS. THAT BASE HAS CLEARLY CHANGED. Civil Rights equality HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. The FIGHT IS OVER. But it lives on in demogogeury. INDUSTRIAL UNIONS are BY and LARGE GONE. Due to many factors. But THEY ARE GONE. Libs have sought GOVT and TOILET CLEANING UNIONS to replace the BASE. PEACENIKS have become the leaders of our INSTITUTIONS and are generally NUT JOBS. Gore, Kerry and Obama are NUT CASES. They do not share TRADITIONAL AMERICAN VALUES. They seek POWER POWER POWER and more POWER. They trade VALUES and TRADITION to any FREAKISH GROUP for a VOTING BLOCK.

Marxists recognize NO GOD. So these FREAKS have to pander to that BASE.

  23. @20 follow-up to my comments: I would even go so far as to say that the reason this nation teeters on the brink of the abyss is BECAUSE the Christian right has not DEMANDED that our politicians remain true to our Founding ethos, and instead have bought into the LIE that “progress” is good. Idiots that they’ve been, they’ve ignored all the tell-tell signs that for the Left, progess means WORSHIP of the state, an all-powerful, despotic, authoritarian, and ANTI-Christian state.

  24. darcy, I coined it years ago…

Taqiyya – the Muslim practice of deception

-otomist, one who surgically removes something.

Like Lobotomist, only different! I use God-given discernment to surgically extract and dispose of Taqiyya in online debates. Taqiyya, whether used by Leftists or by Muslims, is the same cancerous mass, and comes from the same diabolic source. IMO. It often follows the same “rules of the game” as well. Taqiyya and it’s non-Muslim equivalent, Lefty argument, use the same tactics, the same illogic, and the same word-redefinition and mind-games — almost as if the techniques were developed in concert. Which they were, in a spiritual manner of speaking.

    :D

And you’re absolutely right in your #20. I would respond to Contessa, but I’m fairly inebriated, and I won’t attempt to explain the role of God whilst under the influence of Miller. Thanks, though, for backing me up, and quite nicely to boot!

  25. #23 darcy

I agree. We Christians are indeed partly, PARTLY, to blame. We have not been forceful enough with our verbal arguments against this encroaching godlessness.

I said, way before the election of Obama, that, in ten or so years, the left will come to their senses after they see the results of what they did, and, knowing that we all knew what he was and what he represented, will turn on US. They will say (I said) “Why didn’t you SCREAM IT AT US!? Why didn’t you try, just a little bit harder, to TELL US!? Why didn’t you GRAB US BY THE LAPELS and SCREAM about what socialism and communism are capable of?

We, the folks who know what Commies and Socialists are ultimately both capable of, and tendatious of, should have been FAR more forceful in telling Americans, who have NO DAMN CLUE what evils and atrocities Communism and Socialism are not only capable of, but desirous of, could have told them.

We, instead, whispered our outrage, like Anne Frank in the attic, to each other, and nodded to each other at what we knew was truth, while it all went down. We assumed that the opposition was incapable of reason. And with good reason, I might add.

I’m not really saying that when mass graves get filled by this century’s crop of Progressives, that it will be ALL our fault, but we need to be more OUT THERE with the truth of Progressivism. We need to take our kids out of public schools. We need to de-fund public universities. We need to QUIT WATCHING THE DAMNNED TELEVISION ALTOGETHER. We need to teach kids that TV and MOVIES are as BAD as CRACK AND HEROIN, only far worse, since crack and heroin don’t lead to Treblinka and Auschwitz, whereas Progressivism and godlessness ALWAYS DOES. EVERY TIME.

They will ask, weeping, why didn’t you try harder to tell us?

  26. Watch all 12 hours of “Shoah.”

Then tell me if we should have been more forceful in telling Lefty, or Centrist, Americans, just what the progressives who have been molding this nation’s institiutions for a hundred years are capable of, and what they have shown, and told us, time and time again, that they desire.

  27. “Mark my words, there will be a MASS EXODUS of religious right voters if the RNC and their cronies are so stupid as to field another establishment wolf in sheep’s clothing”

Ahahah….and exactly WHERE is the religious right going to go??

It will be a relief for all involved, including politicians, for the right to take a hike, while the GOP captures the independent vote and the youth vote. I have no problem with the status quo regarding GOD imprinted on our coins, in our pledges, in our swearing of oaths etc. Just stop trying to push for further Christian inroads into politics.

For your info, I know exactly what the constitution says regarding religion. I also know that this big republican win was not due to any social issues, which took a back seat as it should.

  28. Taqiyya: Glad to assist, anytime. And your explanation re: your handle is simply brilliant. How right you are to draw the parallel between the rop’s tactic of lying to “infidels” and the left’s practice of lying, well, all the time. This, I will remember!

Three cheers to you, as I lift my gin and OJ to your Miller.

  29. Gin and OJ?!? That’s mighty close to what echo’s drinking tonight! (Martini is dry….)

    LOL, and j/k.

  30. I am concerned Ryan is still talking about what republicans need to do. Just do it. Time to roll.

  31. Ryan sends a tingle up my leg.

The social issues needs to be obscure. It’s about the constitution and saving America. But no worries. Many people have turned back to God and America is still a Christian country. It’s either that or have sharia. Take your pick.

  32. “Ahahah….and exactly WHERE is the religious right going to go??

It will be a relief for all involved, including politicians, for the right to take a hike, while the GOP captures the independent vote and the youth vote.”

    So says Contessa61.

The Independent and the youth vote do not a party make; if the repubs are depending upon them, having told “the right to take a hike,” they will be a minority party first, and then slide into oblivion.

The real conservatives — recognizing the truth of my post #20 — will form a new party; and to hell with the Republicans for using us to win elections and ignoring us — AS WITH THE REPEAL OF DADT — when it came time to stand up for traditional conservative principles.

As far as you’re concerned, the country can go to hell in a hand-basket, because that’s exactly where it’s headed without the so-called Christian right’s influence upon our government.

If God is dead then all things are permissable. Think about that for awhile.

  33. I’m with Dell:

“The type of ‘young gun’ that I’ve been waiting for! I’m so sick and tired of the same old faces and BS mongers of yesteryear….in both parties! Let’s let some of this new blood have a crack at succeeding where the ‘old boys’ have failed.”

I have been telling The Stupid Party for years & years,

“Quit running the same, tired, old, worn-out Republican Retreads– it’s time for fresh faces and new blood.”

Now, more than ever, the same old same old just will not cut it.

  34. Paul Ryan just might be the one person who could beat Obama in 2012. I have been following him the last few years and he seems to walk his talk.
Although he has been in congress for over ten years he seems like a breath of fresh air. He is not the same old type of person who the Republicans always seem to nominate.

  35. Paul Ryan – Straight talker, no hint of affectations or self-glory, clear and concise in explanations, difficult to rile or knock off his beam, excellent on fiscal matters, very experienced but still young, good with the media. A lot of upside.

  36. I wonder if Paul Ryan would be more comfortable and more effective as Secretary of the Treasury, rather than President. And for that matter, if Col. Alan West would be most effective as Secretary of Defense. And Gov. Chris Christie as Secretary of Labor. And John Bolton as Secretary of State.

What we need is the right person in their most appropriate role, where they are best suited. If the right person is in the top executive position, they don’t have to do everything, they simply have to choose the right person for the right job. The key task for the top executive is selecting and giving minimal guidance to the talented cabinet officer, and keeping them focused on their area of expertise.

A great player isn’t often a great coach: they are best utilized when playing, not by putting them into a coaching position.

Of course the next question is ‘Who should be the coach?’. That takes a unique character, that can recognize talent and keep the players working together productively. President Reagan was like that.

Paul Ryan is indeed a great man, and he seems to understand the financial dynamics we are faced with better than anyone else in the upper government, or at least he communicates them better than anyone else. That doesn’t mean he’d be a great president, and he doesn’t strike me as the best first choice for that role.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  37. Wow so much speaking without a teleprompter, how does he do it?
Great guy, we need a lot more like him.

  38. Love him, love him, love him!

  39. Paul Ryan is from my hometown, Janesville, WI. I grew up about 8 blocks from him. His grasp of the American Economy is very sound. His plan called the “Roadmap for America” has been largely ignored by the MSM because they want to be able to point out that there’s no Republican answer to America’s problems. Peter Warner is right: He’s much better off being the Sec. of the Treasury.

The Presidency is just not his forte. That duty belongs to someone who can understand and place the correct people in positions to advise, lead a country down a path towards positive goals and to explain tough concepts to the American public using simpler terms.

  40. Peter Warner:

I like your take on filling the cabinet; I would add that we need Andy McCarthy as AG.
