Obama Tries to Distance Himself From Hateful Loons on Left

President Obama distanced himself from his hateful base on Wednesday night.

The Wall Street Journal reported, via FOX Nation:

President Barack Obama called on the nation to resist the temptation to assign blame for a shooting rampage here that may never fully be explained, but to emerge from the tragedy a more thoughtful, civil nation.

President Obama spoke at the memorial service Wednesday in Tucson
Concluding a memorial service for the victims of Saturday’s violence, Mr. Obama urged: “Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let us use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy.”

…The president’s emotionally charged address capped days of debate about whether the nation’s heated political rhetoric played a role in inciting the violence. Mr. Obama addressed the point, saying incivility did not cause the tragedy of Tucson. But, he added that “only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation.”

“At a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do,” the president said, “it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

The nationally televised speech, delivered to more than 14,000 in the university arena and almost as many in an overflow area, was an opportunity for the president to connect with a hurting nation…

…While some Americans are debating gun safety laws, the adequacy of mental health services and other possible factors in the incident, Mr. Obama said, “the truth is that none of us can know exactly what triggered this vicious attack.”

Also Wednesday, Ms. Giffords’s colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives held an extensive session of floor remarks honoring her and other victims, including a member of Ms Giffords’ staff who was killed.

FOX ran the entire service, without interruptions and commentary (THANK YOU, FOX) in prime time PST. I am glad they did. I got to catch recorded speeches by the other speakers, and saw BO’s speech twice.

The second half of BO’s speech was worthwhile, and we should embrace the the spirit of that speech, and quote it back to BO’s supporters the next time they try to Krugman a story.

This is going to be a federal case, and all the judges in Arizona had to recuse themselves because they know one of the victims. The same is likely to be true of the ones in New Mexico. That leaves a choice of Texas or California with the nearest adequate airport hubs, and we all know what kind of hissy the Usual Suspects would throw if the trial were held in Texas.

All in all, San Diego is probably a good choice.

The body language from Rep. Gifford told me what I felt! They used that man and Rep. Gifford to set up the Kenyan frauds campaign! The doctor should not had allowed them in the room! I think Obama was hoping and may have been sold on the idea of a classy, respectful memorial service in which to deliver the speech of a lifetime.
I think he knew that it was anything but. He can distance himself to the best of his ability but he owns the politicization here and he’d better hope it doesn’t get worse.
The only problem is that there is something awfully odd about a judge who apparently had a potential ruling against Obamacare getting killed. There’s even more odd about the Sheriff. Seems to me that the threats have escalated against the right.
Obama’s walking a tightrope and he can’t be too happy to be in that situation. I think he was envisioning greek columns not the roman coliseum

It took Obama four days to throw left wingers who’ve made all the stupid accusations under the bus because it took four days for two polls to show that the tactic wasn’t working. Had these accusations led to polls that 53% of people did buy the horsecrap he would not have spoken out against it. The blame placing would have remained every bit as wrong and obscene in either case, but if the polls say it’s being rejected it becomes a political liability and under the bus it goes.

As for the left – if you want some fun, go read the comment sections at sites like Politico, Huffington Post, etc. Between the AZ shooting aftermath and the choice of Dailey and Sperling as part of Obama’s new B Team, they are coming apart in a highly amusing way. One comment I read about Dailey & Sperling went to the effect of: “So, Obama has finally replaced two corporate shill Clintonistas with…. two more corporate shill Clintonistas. Yeah, that’ll work.”

It is difficult to understand how the hard left could watch their man throw his own family and his own minister of twenty years under the bus when it became politically expedient, but believed he’d never throw them under the bus for the same cheap political reason.

A few more examples -

Sending back the Churchill bust rather than simply having it put elsewhere to drag out when necessary

Giving the Queen of England an iPod that she already had, complete with recordings of all TheWon’s speeches

Giving the UK Prime Minister a complete set of DVDs that won’t play in the UK (a 13 year old knows better!)

Making the Prime Minister of Israel use the back door of the White House. He was not the only world personality TheWon has forced to walk by the garbage.

The current White House regime may have the “bully pulpit” but they have virtually no couth and no manners. The Obamas are an acute embarrassment to the United States of America. They present as Third World dictators with literally no class.

During the Presidential campaign, both Sarah Palin’s and Obama’s family was being criticized in the press. Obama made a statement that said that families were off limits in the campaign, even though his wife was on the campaign trail and was a legitimate target. The Right eased up on Michelle, while the Left went into overdrive, slamming and attacking Palin AND HER CHILDREN with even more venom and hatred.

Obama’s call “…to resist the temptation to assign blame for a shooting rampage here that may never fully be explained…” will have the same effect. It was not a declaration to stop the rhetoric, it was a warming for the Right to shut up and accept blame for this tragedy. One need only look at how vicious Palin is beign attacked for her speech to know this is true.

We welcome President Obama who took office in a difficult time or something like that.

The speech was long, boring and mind numbing but the content was well meaning if not politically expediant.

It was 3 days late. The President should have said 3 days earlier for people to stop blaming someone who had nothing to do with the murders. For political gain and out of hate was dispicable.

Somber-faced family members, notable guests, city, state and federal officials stood huddled together on the area floor looking and craning at those who surrounded them above and below, wondering: Have I been teleported to the final minutes, of the final game of a basketball championship?

A thoughtfully prepared national expression of grieving for a massacre only four days old was repeatedly drowned in catcalls, hooting, whistling and cheering. Those on the floor turned their heads in all directions, as if to gain a visual understanding of it.

However, there was one face on the floor of the arena that expressed full knowledge of the moment — an embarrassed Barack Obama (“Those oblivious minions, screaming from galleries, are exactly those who have put me where I am; and I must continue to get used to it”).

In fact, if I were being cynical I would interpret his speech calling for civility to still mean conservatives exclusively without saying it outright. Why else would you even bring it up without pointing to the left?
