Mexican gunmen shot across the border today at a road crew working 70 miles from El Paso.
KVIA reported, via Free Republic:
Hudspeth County, Texas Sheriff Arvin West confirmed a Hudspeth County road crew came under fire Thursday morning from gunmen in Mexico.
Sheriff West told ABC-7 that around 10:30 a.m, Thursday a road crew was repairing a part of Indian Hot Springs road, just east of Neely’s crossing in Hudspeth County along the US-Mexico border when they came under gunfire from the Mexican side.
The crew was able to escape unharmed and managed to call for help. Units from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol and Hudspeth County sheriff’s deputies responded within minutes. They were able to determine the shots came from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande but were unable to spot the actual gunmen.
West added this is the first time county crews have come under direct fire. No one was injured and no equipment was damaged.
Less than 70 miles, west of Hudspeth County, El Paso has had its share of bullets crossing the border.

I didn’t know that Mexican gangs were studying Sarah Palin’s maps.

Governor Perry…… Sir…… Y’all need to end this on your own with the state militia, because that mess in DC posing as our national government either doesn’t care, or more likely and to the point, are part of the problem.
Git-r-done, Sir.
Oh wait…… I forgot…… Tolerance…… We have to have tolerance…… Mrs. Obama has ordered it…… “We can teach them to give others the benefit of the doubt, particularly those with whom they disagree.”

Although we do need to control our border, this story is not specifically a border control story. It’s a reminder of the lawlessness across the border. My heart goes out to the good folks in Mexico who are living in terror right now. And I am fearful that the violence will continue to spill over the river.

Flying Manatee, excuse me, but you are an idiot.
Your heart goes out to the people of Mexico? It is the people of Mexico who cowar in fear and do not take these drug cartels out. Can you really say that more people would die in Mexico if they did than are dying now? Just recently, 15 decapitated bodies were found in Alcapulco, a town Geraldo Rivera claims is safe for tourism. The violence will not end until the people of Mexico rise up against it.
What about the 4,000+ Americans who are slaughtered every year by illegal immigrants? Do you not have sympathy for them? Do you even know who Rodney Johnson was?

With our concealed cary handgun laws here in Texas, maybe someone should be packing a bit of heat and shoot back!! I know I would.

The proper response? Fire back, with more and bigger bullets, and for a longer period of time.

On the local St. Louis program Donnybrook all the call ins wanted gun control. They said no one needs guns or semi-automatics. Maybe if they lived in a border state they would feel more threatened and feel the need to have their own protection. The government sure isn’t going to protect them. Must let all the potential Democratic voters some int the country one way or the other.

Generally superior fire power will save the day, pretty well tells you why the slime in DC wish’s to disarm Americans. It just get worst every day.
Rock commented:
I mean no disrespect to the many fine officer’s who risk their live every day, But the courts, the ACLU, and political correctness ruling’s have for the most part relegated police work to after the fact, report writing rather than crime prevention. It sucks, yet their hands are tied.

If Texas is anything like Maryland the road crew was probably made up of illegal Mexican workers which means they’re probably used to it.

Rush made the shooters do it.

You’re probably right but as long as they’re on the payroll, legal or illegal, we need ‘em doing road work, not dodging bullets.

A lot of good it does to have a kick @$$ military when they don’t even show up for the war at our own border.

The DOT must be armed! With full stop and seizure powers.
These guys are working that close to the border and nobody was packing?

When German citizens marched across the border of Poland, and started shooting, what was that called? WAR.
Mexican, and other Central and South Americans have been marching across our border and shooting our citizens. That, folks, is an act of WAR. And it should be treated like an act of WAR.
Mexico has a responsibility to keep their citizens from invading another nation. But instead of preventing their citizens from invading the U.S., Mexico puts troops on ITS southern border to prevent people from Central and South America entering Mexico. And if those C. & S. Americans are caught, they are not gently flown back to their countries. They are jailed.
Mexico even went so far as to print pamphlets telling Mexicans how to pack to cross the desert in the U.S. and how to avoid the U.S. Border Patrol. Vicente Fox, former pres of Mexico, said that Mexico’s constitution doesn’t recognize borders. Funny, about that, he seemed to have recognized that Mexico had a southern border, just not a northern one. Calderon is no better. He makes a fool of Obama every time they meet.
But no one cared when this was just a border state problem (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California) but now drunk driving illegals are murdering Catholic nuns and all of a sudden, we have a problem? Anyone remember the Railroad Killer?
Everyone is at fault. Businesses view the illegals as cheap labor (the new slavery) and Democrats, with the enactment of the MotorVoter Act, view them as voters. And we in the border states continue to suffer.
Rock commented:
No way Obama declares war on future votes, remember if you expect border security you are the enemy.
Noah commented:
Had the road crew been armed that man would have only shot once and no one else would have ever thought to do it again.
Henry Hawkins commented:
The problem is that government road crews are almost entirely stationary, rarely moving, which makes them easy targets.
