It was a bi-partisan vote by the way…
4 Democrats joined with Republicans in a 236-181 vote.

The language:
“Providing for consideration of H.R. 2, to repeal the job-killing health care law and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010; and providing for consideration of H.Res. 9, instructing certain committees to report legislation replacing the job-killing health care law”
Poor Minority Leader Pelosi already lost 4 of her blue dogs on the vote.
The Washington Times reported on the vote:
Confronting President Obama, the new Republican-led House took a first step Friday toward a symbolic vote to repeal his landmark health care overhaul law, which would provide coverage to more than 30 million Americans without health insurance.
But the 236-181 largely party-line vote is unlikely to amount to more than a political message, since Democrats who still run the Senate have promised to block efforts to scrap the law and Obama has veto power.
Once Again… Democrats were the “Party of No” on yet another popular vote.
More… Via Instapundit: In 2010, the Democrats passed ObamaCare by a 7 vote margin. In 2011, the Republicans passed the bill to repeal ObamaCare with a 55 vote margin.

Kenny Solomon commented:
Obamacare is not a “job-killing health care law”.
It’s legislation to invoke baseline Totalitarian rule in America.
If and when our side finally starts ‘marketing’ things that way, maybe it’ll get some legs from the few remaining somewhat sane Democrats and possibly even a few RINO’s.
Dell commented:
Hairy Reid will do everything in his power to prevent a vote in the Senate, which could embarrass the Hell right out of his party. I’m wondering if he still thinks changing the filibuster rule is a good idea? We know the legislation has no chance of becoming law, but it does show the voters of this country just who is on their side. There’s a method to this madness and it has to be done.

It’s a vote of no confidence and therefore has incredible value in my estimation.
It further documents the Republican pledge to adhere to the will of the people. They cast their votes in concert with the people’s wishes, and that’s something contemporary Democrats will not do.
So we’ll see which party wins the battle. However, Republicans will win the war.
TMLutas commented:
Kenny Solomon – The two are not mutually exclusive. totalitarianism has never been particularly good about job creation.
But you’re barking up the wrong tree. My wife started her studies in an end-stage socialized medicine system. At that point, death panels are real and overt. My grandmother-in-law was refused ambulance service because they wouldn’t send an ambulance out for a 93 year old who broke her hip.
But the medical service was not totalitarian. It was broken, poor, corrupt, and dehumanizing. They’re privatizing that system as fast as possible at this point.

What about the parts of the bill that aren’t health care related?

Kenny Solomon: You are absolutely right. Government controlled health care is the cornerstone of totalitarian rule. The 7 Republicans not voting were:
Steve Austria (OH-7)
Joe Barton (TX-6)

Steve Pearce (NM-2)

Anyone wonder why they didn’t write the name of the health care bill? I mean – anyone in law knows that if you are referring to a defined term that it is named and capitalized. Why not repeal the actual bill- just like they noted to repeal certain healthcare provisions in the other bill named…
My thought is this- it’s all for show. They are not going to repeal it, not now-not ever. The pubs are wimps. Plus, I agree with Solomon above: let’s call it what it is and not minimize it to merely a “job killing” health care law. The pubs still dont get it. Not Cantor and not Boehner. Maybe Paul Ryan…. I’ll believe it when I see it.

“Once Again… Democrats were the “Party of No” on yet another popular vote.”
Don’t you think that saying “No” to an already passed law also makes the Republican Party a “Party of No”? The Republicans haven’t come forward with a lot of own ideas to tackle the debt problem or other problems of the country. The main thing they do is saying no to the Democratic proposals.
pondering commented:
But wait…
If the House has overturned the bill, doesn’t that mean that the “Deemed Passed” tactic used to approve it in the first place is now invalid?
Henry Hawkins commented:
Good news: House passed Repeal bill.
Bad news: 236 votes is far short of 290 needed to override Obama veto. Now it doesn’t matter if enough Senate Dems jump on board Repeal wagon.
Still, anything that keeps Obamacare in the news and under discussion is a good thing. The more people hear about it – even when they hear about it from Dems – the more they dislike it. One out of four registered Democrats favor repeal.
Another new reality: Repubs have the House, of course, and Dems have the Senate and White House. Any strongly conservative legislation passed by the House is likely not to pass the Senate, and even if it does, it faces veto if the House passed it with less than override-level 290 votes. What this new dynamic means is the Dem controlled Senate is now largely irrelevant, and that any horse-trading on legislation will occur between the House and the White House, after which Dems and Repubs in the Senate will be told what to do on the brokered legislation by Obama and Boehner respectively. Obama will favor compromise that helps his reelection, a goal that will continue to subvert the liberal agenda. Harry Reid is still Majority Leader of Senate, but he’s in charge of an empty vessel. Reid will not like this and is very likely to do something stupid to reassert himself as Senate leader. Republicans always know to watch out for Dem sabotage of their legislation. Once Harry realizes his newfound political impotency, Obama will have to keep an eye out for sabotage by his own Senate Majority Leader.
It’s enough to make me weep, you know?

This is more than a mere political message. This is the first of what will likely be dozens of votes taken by the House to invalidate democrat attempts to run Clintonian triangulation. In this climate, it’ll be very difficult for pols to say that they’re for something one day and then vote against it the very next day. Any inconsistencies will provide grist for 2012.
Give ‘em hell, Mr. Boehner! Make ‘em hate their jobs as much as we hate that they have their jobs!

That’s some pretty standard Democrat boilerplate there.
The Republicans have had counter-proposals all along. And as far as being against the “HealthCare” mostrosity, or Cap and Trade, or Card Check — THAT’S WHAT A MAJORITY OF THE VOTING PUBLIC WANTS,
Wm T Sherman commented:
The “Healthcare” (i.e. “Travesty”) law does not kick in fully until after the 2012 elections are safely over. Some taxes start before that, but the full law does not. Democrats considered this clever at the time, no doubt. However, what it means is that there is a very good chance that it can be repealed in early 2013, before it really gets started. Keep the idea of repeal out there in th epublic eye until then, so it’s not considered shocking when it actaully happens.

2 Sides … your problem is that you assume that the Dims and or/ the Republicans MUST come up with “the answers” to all our problems FOR us … and that we citizens are incapable of performing any problem solving without their “help”.
There is one essential element that the Congress, especially, must do now.
They need to let the American people know, clearly, that many of the problems they have been asked to solve AIN’T THEIR JOB to solve … but OUR JOB, as citizens … and leave those problems to us, instead of trying to solve them FOR us.
That will go a long way towards putting an end to the fiscal irresponsibility … and towards encouraging wealth/job creating activities … and putting ourselves in a position where we can start dealing with that debt.
Not to mention protecting our liberty from the whims of those who think they “know better” … when there is no way they can know what EACH of us is facing, as INDIVIDUALS.
Henry Hawkins commented:
Lulu: “Henry- good analysis. But you are forgetting one thing- the Repubs will sell us out to get their things passed when they are working with Obama.”
Thank you. As for being sold out by congressional Repubs, that’s certainly happened before. However, the 112th Repubs, Boehner, Ryan, Cantor, et al, have so far been very clear about their intent to honor the mandate sent them on Nov 2, 2010.
When you hold just one of the three main legs of governance (the House, while Dems have the Senate and WH), you are forced to do some horsetrading. I think it’ll be a long time before Repubs again sell out their constituency. I would point out that there’s a big difference between a sell out and a political compromise, where you are often forced to accept half a loaf because the whole loaf isn’t winnable.
I think it is imperative that the Republicans internally define their core principles and stick to them no matter what, define ahead of time where the lines will be drawn. On many issues they will be able to do a little horsetrading without compromising these core principles. For example (and were I one of the Repubs in congress), I would compromise on raising the debt ceiling just one last time if it was accompanied by substantial cuts in spending – they get something, we get something. However, if Dems (off top of my head example) offered to support and help repeal Obamacare if Repubs agreed to allow a federal takeover of all media… oh, hell no. These types of agreements/non-agreements are the standard political horsetrading necessary in a split congress. But… if Dems, say, off the record offered to give the top 12 Repubs of our choice the top new positions in media governance if Repubs would agree to support federalization of all media, then yeah, that’s a pure sell out. They get control of the media, but only individual Repubs get choice new jobs – and the people get sold out. Similarly, trading amnesty for an Obamacare repeal = sell out.

Ritchie The Riveter commented:
It’s amazing how clueless you are, BUDI, that you have already been manipulated …
… you apparently have sold out to the soft, cuddly fascism known as Progressive governance, which is far more authoritarian than anything proposed by the GOP.
A prime example is Obamacare, which has the potential to make the Left’s worst nightmares about the PATRIOT Act look downright libertarian. It is the Left, who seeks to make our decisions in so many areas FOR us.
Another example is how Re-, er, Progressive “social justice” has kept people — of all races — mired in dependency and intergenerational poverty here … and the international manifestations of their ideology have facilitated corruption, misery – and sometimes, terror – across the globe. There’s treason against people for you.
OTOH, when the rights-respecting governance and free-market principles conservatives support have been implemented in other nations, their people prosper, as we have seen from the post-WWII Pacific Rim to the liberated nations of Eastern Europe. These nations are also NOT where terrorism flourishes.
Guess what …. history shows that the neo-cons are right; encouraging what has worked here — the protection of the unalienable rights of the individual by their government — leads to prosperity and sustainable peace.
And my statement stands … you DON’T want government actively encouraging wealth/job-creating opportunities; i.e. picking winners and losers. All that does is enable a few well-connected crony capitalists at our expense, and discourage others from working to develop competitive alternatives to the “blessed” firms and their underlying technologies.
Initiation and execution of those activities ARE OUR JOB. What government needs to do is return to its proper limits, and concern itself with the truly one-size-fits-all issues of governance … the defense and maintenance of our socio-economic “commons”. This will — in the PROPER manner — encourage activities that create wealth, and jobs, by maintaining an environment where individuals are free to DO THEIR JOB.

A lot of people seem to not know that plenty of Democrats voted for the Patriot Act in 2001 and 2006. Also, in Feb. 2010, more Democrats voted to extend the Patriot Act than Republicans did. Also, more Democrats voted for the Bush bank bailout bill than Republicans did. So the next time someone hears a Democrat talk trash about the Patriot Act and the bank bailout, remind them who voted for it.
