Oops!… It Looks Like Obama Fibbed About Giffords “Opening Her Eyes for the First Time” (Video)

In one of the most memorable moments of the memorial last night in Tucson, Barack Obama told the pep rally audience that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had opened her eyes for the first time on Wednesday night.
It was very emotional moment:
But, unfortunately it was not true.
The Sonoran Chronicle reported that Rep. Giffords could open her eyes on Sunday.
(The Sonoron has since pulled the article.)
The bullet “traveled the entire length of the brain on the left side,” said Dr. Rhee, Chief Trauma Surgeon at the University Medical Center, at a press conference on Sunday. In terms of being shot in the head, this is “about as good as it’s going to get,” said Rhee.
Giffords can open her eyes, but because she is on a ventilator she can’t speak, said Rhee.
The surgery took about two hours, said Rhee.Rhee attributed Giffords’ surviving the gunshot wound to a variety of factors, including a fast response by paramedics, proper care by the hospital staff, and luck. The bullet did not cross from one hemisphere of the brain to the other, nor did it go through the geometric center of the brain.
Would someone please tell me this was not planned.
More… The Tucson Sentinel also reported that Gabby could open her eyes in their Tuesday article.
UPDATE: ABC explained Obama’s “first time” statement today.
It looks like the hacks at Media Matters owes this blog an apology.

You are reporting on something that was since pulled, and you dangle a suggestive question as to the president’s veracity.
Perhaps you might want to find out why the Sonoran newspaper pulled the story.
Remember, they reported something that was subsequently pulled, and yet you want to cast light on the info that was since deemed unworthy of printing?
It’s a largely non-story anyway, even if it hadn’t been pulled.
Whatever, I understand you have to serve some red meat with the morning eggs.

Jon Stewart raised a valid question last night, and guest Tim Pawlenty’s silent complicity was quite telling: “People level charges of tyranny against Obama, and yet no one expanded the power of the Executive Branch more than Bush did”
Stewart wasn’t charging anyone with hate crime, or anything, just that unhinged conservative furor seems to be disproportional to what Obama actually did/has done in brief tenure.

The question is now, how much of her is still there? The body can function relatively easy. Opening the eyes is, well, it doesn’t mean much.
Echo, they are accusing GP. Accusing. What evidence do they have? I mean, actual evidence. GP photoshopped the image because it’s not on Daily Kos? That’s no evidence. Images can be pulled offline. And given how intelligent the average journalist is these days… Ah let’s not go there.

UM. Really? Newspapers are supposed to print factual information. If a newspaper prints information that is proven to be false, standard practice is to print a retraction.
That apparently wasn’t done. If a newspaper pulls sentences in an article or totally pulls it off, it is protecting someone or something. For example, if a president says something that is untrue, a newspaper that supports his agenda might not want to expose him in a lie. Just a thought.
Where is your common sense and understanding of how journalism is SUPPOSED to work? Cached copies make it hard to hide….journalistic shenanigans.

You don’t understand that I am not a big fan of Obama’s centrist, corporate-coddling ways; however, I found his speech to be both pragmatic and humanistic, and wholly unpolitical. You can be captious and mean-spirited and find brutish darkness in the shadow of a tree, but I see a lovely adumbration that is testament to Nature’s beauty.
(I tend to ramp up the hippy-love sentiment early in the morning, forgive me)

I have been to too many memorial services in my life and nearly all have shared two elements – remembering lost life and quiet dignity. I could not continue watching political the media event staged last night in Tucson. Applause and cheering were out of place. Why the Indian medicine man? Wouldn’t a minister or priest have been more appropriate?

I should be a bit more sympathetic to pathologically lying liberal proglodytes /sarc/. They are mendacious for the following simple reasons:
1. Liberals want to implement socialism;
2. Americans generally don’t like socialism because: a. it runs counter to the political philosophy that established our nation and b. it either has failed miserably or is failing miserably everywhere it has ever been implemented);
3. Liberals have to lie to conceal their agenda to pass it off as something else;

Sounds like you are speculating— we don’t know why the Sonoran Chronicle pulled it, but, the fact is, it was pulled. Some people change their minds, based on things like caprice, external threat, or simply finding out something is wrong. The dudes on Fox News just said— perhaps they didn’t do enough research– that MS. Giffords opened her eyes for the first time at that stated time.
i don’t really care. sometimes we have to allow that even if you find a president to be fiendish, everything he does isn’t so.

The article was pulled off several hours AFTER Obama’s speech. I founded it yesterday around 10 pm or 11 pm and posted a link on several sites including this one. So the reason for removing it is pretty obvious. But here is a clip were doctor says that they wake her every several hours to check how she is doing:

If you bothered to go to the Sonoran Chronicle website you would see that the article they pulled was based on a press conference held on Sunday by the hospital.
That tape is somewhere and will surface.
You may wish to tone down your rhetoric before you beclown yourself even more. If that’s possible.
