Marxist tyrant Chavez wants supporters Oliver Stone, Sean Penn or Noam Chomsky to be named as US Envoy to Venezuela.
Chavez also said Bill Clinton would be acceptable for the position.
Reuters reported:

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez sought to end a diplomatic stand-off with the United States on Tuesday by suggesting it name Bill Clinton, actor Sean Penn or director Oliver Stone as its envoy to Caracas.

In the latest flare-up between the ideological foes, Washington withdrew the visa of Venezuela’s ambassador last week in retaliation for Chavez’s rejection of President Barack Obama’s nominated ambassador to Caracas.

U.S. diplomat Larry Palmer had criticized Venezuela’s government, saying morale in its military was low and there were clear ties between members of the Chavez administration and leftist rebels in neighboring Colombia.

In a televised speech late on Tuesday, Venezuela’s firebrand president said he had come up with a solution.

“I hope they name Oliver Stone. I’ll suggest a candidate … Sean Penn, or (linguist and philosopher Noam) Chomsky. We have a lot of friends there. Bill Clinton!” Chavez said.

The funny part of this short article is the last paragraph. Rather than go into any detail (AT ALL!) about just how these computers will help the education of these kids, or any comparisons with other districts which have given out laptops to thousands of kids, and whether the move was effective in terms of dollars-spent-to-gradepoint-gains, no….

After a short explanation of the giveaway (the “meat” of the story, apparantly, in Detroit is “how much is given to us” and “to whom”), the last paragraph:

“The announcement about the infusion of new computers will be made at 9 a.m. at Davis Aerospace High School, 10200 Erwin St. School personnel also will demonstrate anti-theft features that will be used to safeguard and track the computers.”

NOTHING about education or learning in the article, and the kicker, how important it is that we keep these hoodrats from stealing the computers.

Gotta love the Democrat Inner City mentality, and what’s important to them, as evidenced by D-Freep articles.

By this time next year, the computers will all have either failed or the “anti-theft features” will have all been over-ridden, 20,000 of them will have been “lost” by the students, and the taxpayers of the USA will pay for their immediate replacement… and average GPA won’t have gone up a hundredth of a point. The biggest boon is that Detroit students, after a year, will have amassed quite a large illegal collection of Lady Gaga and Kanye albums and an even bigger collection of Hollywood flicks from the torrents.

I wonder if the computers will come with instructions on how to find whole term-papers online… or how to use Google to solve algebraic equations. Computers in the classroom is the biggest boondoggle, no-improvement, education scam since “Cable in the Classroom”. The distractions ALWAYS outweigh any benefits to the student. Gotta hand it to Libs/Progs. They really do know how to do the Brewster’s Millions thing.

I was “lucky” to be in that first generation of students to be experimented upon by the newly-formed Federal Department of Education. Instead of logic, philosophy, literature, latin, greek, and the classics, we were given shiny, new green-screen TRS-80 Model I computers, which in time became Model IIIs, then Apple IIs, then IBM-PC ATs.

Instead of Cicero and Plato, we got crappy toys and no real learning. Did we get to more efficiently learn of History on these computers? Mathematics? Science? Reading and comprehension? Nope. Nope. Nope. And…nope. We got to learn to program in a now-obsolete BASIC language, got to play crappy little games, and got to spend hours of valuable classtime learning how to plot a 128×64 Christmas card.

I’m sure the experiment has gotten more dismal, exponentially so, by now. The kids are playing games, social networking, and illegally downloading entertainment. And still not getting latin, logic, or literature. And someone in the PC industry, along with some government middle-men, is getting rich, just like Apple did — by fooling the public schools, and selling them their snake oil.

Maybe guys like these are just so spoiled and have lived such relatively privileged lives that they don’t understand oppression, or want?

So they live in these little theoretical worlds in their minds, and then when they see Chavez, somehow they think it represents their fantasies? Whatever the heck those are?

Maybe they just really have zero idea of how real people live? Or somehow never grasped the notion of freedoms? Or their importance? Maybe they envision themselves as part of the hand-picked rulers in a new regime – I just don’t know.

I think if they had to part with their own money and live ordinary lives under guys like Chavez, maybe they would get a clue.

I think it may really come down to just that they think it’s “cool.” In their safe little lives, they can afford to be avant guard and champion despots, or something, and they think that’s really cool and rebellious. Or superior, somehow.

Anyway, I wish they would get the hell out of the U.S., with its freedoms and opportunities they apparently despise, and go somewhere like Venezuela. I’m sure Chavez would make sure they would be part of the ruling class there, too.

Maybe, in addition to being cool, they really do want a world where they, personally, lord it over everyone else, who has to do what they say and has to do without what they think they tell them they should be without. (While they do without nothing, of course.) Kind of like Obama has in mind . . .

I don’t know. It’s hard to get my mind around things like that. I can’t understand why someone – especially successful, relatively “normal” Americans like these two (and others, like Michael Moore) – would wish despotism on everyone.

I’ve looked and looked and cannot find it, but I distinctly remember a case in another urban area where thousands of high school kids were given laptops. Within 6 months half of them had been reported lost or stolen, and half of those had been located at local pawn shops.
