Brrr… Florida Experiences Coldest December Ever – Breaking 1935 Records

Florida just went through its coldest December ever breaking records set in 1935.
The Sunshine State lost $273 million from the December freezes alone — including nearly 9,000 acres of crops.
CBS Miami reported:
If you thought it was especially cold in December, it’s not just your imagination. The facts prove it, according to the National Weather Service, which announced Saturday that December 2010 set a record as the coldest December ever in Ft. Lauderdale. Miami, and Key West.
Forecasters say December was also the second coldest month ever in Key West.
A series of arctic cold fronts put South Florida into the deep freeze, with frost on the ground, crops damaged, and people forced to bundle up to face wind chills in the 20′s. While temperatures were unusually chilly as far south as Key West, where a one day overnight low record was set, Ft. Lauderdale, experienced the lowest low temperatures, giving them the nod for the record. However, even Miami and warmer Key West were still cold as records go.
Of course, a record low in Florida is not the same as a record low in the frozen Northeast. According to the weather service, the mean monthly average for Ft. Lauderdale in December was 60.4 degrees. That breaks the previous record of 62.2 degrees set in December 1935.

This is what liberals do. They create a false premise (“the earth has a fever”), then later, when justifying their position, they refer back to the original false premise and state that it is settled science and cannot be debated.
“Settled Science” is in itself a contradiction. Science is NEVER settled. To say you have settled science is to pretend that all that will ever be known about a subject is already known. It’s like “government creating jobs”. The government cannot create jobs (except government jobs). The government can only provide a fertile field in which private industry is freed to create jobs.
Everything about liberalism is a contradiction. They call themselves “progressives” yet espouse a political philosophy which has been proven to fail over and over again through history. There is nothing “new” or “progressive” about progressivism.
We should call them “Regressives”.

Not as cold as it could get. A few thousand years ago the last remnants of hardwood forest (hickory, oak, etc.) were confined to the florida peninsula. Everything north of Florida was either loess plains, boreal forest, glacial outwash plains, or ice. During the interglacial period the hardwoods recolonized the lands to the north to create the forests that were there when the first explorers saw North America in the 16th century. The ice ages haven’t ended by a long shot, we are only in an interglacial period that could end at mother nature’s him at any time.
We are perhaps only one big volcanic event away.

That’s because there is NO SUCH THING as settled science. The post was short and sweet, because the point was short and sweet….we’re being fed an alarmist bill of goods, while the REALITY OF OUR UNPREDICTABLE CLIMATE is staring us right in the face.
Alarmists would have us believe that they have everything figured out, and the “science is settled”. And yet, even with cold snaps in Fla and blizzards in England, 2010 is one of the warmest years of the past 10,000 years. The evidence supporting the current global warming event is overwhelming.
Anecdotal winter weather reports no more refudiate man-made global warming any more than summer heat waves in Europe and Australia, or deluges and floods in Pakistan or Australia confirm confirm it.
Is the Earth warming? Yes. Is the current warming event man-made? Most likely. Will it continue to warm? Most likely. Will several degrees C of warming by 2100 profoundly affect human societies? Yes.

“Is the Earth warming?” You have no idea. There is insufficient data to determine what is “normal” for anything other than a few hundred years of our history.
“Is the current warming event man-made?” Possibly, but given the huge number of other possible natural causes, it’s not likely.

You want to impose your agenda on the rest of us, without one shred of proof that this “warming” period is anything but a natural event, and without a shred of proof that it would be bad for the earth. The taxation and regulation the “climate change” zealots are proposing will do massive damage to our economy, kill jobs, and make life much more difficult for everyone, especially the poor. The regular folks in this country, who don’t buy in to this scam, aren’t about to have it crammed down their throats only to sit back and watch the arrogant elite exempt themselves from it. Why the name-calling and vitriol? Why do you say that other planets are warming? Do you have evidence of this? I am skeptical when someone doesn’t believe overwhelming scientific evidence on this planet but does believe a tale they’ve heard about Mars or Saturn or Pluto.
The sun is actually cooling a bit, yet the Earth warms. Do you have evidence that increased solar activity is causing the current warming? If you do, please share.
The Earth is warming now, but not because of a natural cycle but almost certainly because of the addition of man-made greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. There is little scientific debate about this. The relevant question is what, if anything, we should do about it.

As far as the “scientific evidence” on global warming goes, it’s only “overwhelming” to people who have no capacity for unbiased, individual thought. It is what it is because of the scientific evidence, not because of any authority. A simple recitation of facts does not make one arrogant, elitist, leftist or alarmist. That global warming is discussed on blogs like Gateway Pundit doesn’t mean there is a scientific debate. You and I are definitely not engaged in a meaningful scientific debate since you have offered no arguments to support your position(s).

Almost all professional scientists disagree with you. There is little scientific debate about whether the Earth is warming. The instrument and satellite record (since 1979) are clear and consistent. The reconstructed historical temperature record (from several proxies) argues that the current warming period (and the predicted warming) is the warmest in 10,000 years. This entire interglacial period (between the ice ages) encompasses the entire history of human civilization. There is no credible ‘natural’ explanation for the current warming. Melting ice caps, rising ocean levels, melting glaciers, cooling stratosphere and night warming are all phenomena that support the primary temperature record.
Even President Bush and his administration believed the scientific record on warming. As recently as 2008, Senator McCain supported a carbon cap and trade system. The CBO estimates that carbon dioxide mitigation efforts, although not cost free, will have less an impact on the overall economy than did the recent financial market meltdown through 2050. Of course there will be specific industrial disruptions as we convert from a coal and oil energy based economy to sustainable energy sources.
Please present your arguments that refute (or refudiate!) the scientific consensus on the temperature record and the theory of man-made global warming.
Do you really think a winter cold wave in Florida is evidence for or against the theory of global warming? Almost all scientists would agree it is not. Why are you not insulted that the Gateway Pundit thinks you are so dumb?
