Wow! That was quick.
This is unbelievable…
The Obama Administration has already started using the controversial naked body scanners at bus stations… Because terrorizing innocent travelers at airports is simply not enough for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Obama Administration.
From the Video: As we and many others mentioned at the onset of the recent TSA policy changes regarding security at airports, similar measures would soon be introduced at other public venues.
The Transportation Administration has now begun deploying temporary, rapid response checkpoints at bus stations in Tampa. Dubbed VIPER for Visual Intermodal Protection and Response, the checkpoints are designed to be put into place in the event a terrorist threat arises in the future.
Face it… Your body now belongs to the state.
Related… Two Harvard law students have sued the Transportation Security Administration, claiming the so-called “nude body scanners” and intrusive pat-downs used to screen airline passengers are unconstitutional.

Welcome to the gulag.
John Stanford commented:
How is it “unbelievable” that Obama also wants to protect buses? Okay, I guess it might be unbelievable that Obama actually wants to prevent terrorism, but it’s a welcome development.
John Stanford commented:
Also, re the 1st comment, someone thinks we are some kind of “police state,” or whatever that is.
Yeah, he can blame Bush if he thinks so. Bush actually expanded the TSA and did the Patriot Act and stuff–some great policies that have stopped a lot of terrorist attacks while targeting terrorists, not Americans. So it’s the Republicans like Bush, Bachmann, Boehner, and most of the reps who support the anti-terrorism agenda, who are behind this wrongly named “police state.”

Is GE making this technology? Or some other Democratic Partisan interest?
The Democratic Partisans in the Obama Disaster must be worried.
Reminds one of the Napolitano folly, calling terrorism “man made disasters” when they were thinking of their own personal political obsession at the time, trying to deny the reality of the genuine threats. Now they, after the various TERRORIST strikes like the horror at Fort Hood, are hurried to protect Americans – and in reality are most likely trying to protect themselves. These Democrats must know some genuine potential for an ATTACK is out there, and are afraid of the political backlash after they foolishly – repeatedly claimed terrorism really isn’t a threat just a product of political exploitation provided by Republicans.
Their tune has dramatically changed. Perhaps some poll, after seeing the dramatic rise in Domestic Muslim inspired Terrorism on US Soil, encountered inside the Obama Administration reveals some stunning data – like an overwhelming majority of Americans is thinking ‘one more terrorist attack suffered on US Soil and the American Public is going to seek the RESET of TEAM Obama even before 2012′.
Democrats are driven to help themselves, and this is either related to their new found FEAR of “man made disasters”, or their personal gain by distributing the technology, or even the growing of the Governmental work force via the TSA, etc.
One has to remember, many Democrat Partisans actually believed, Muslim Terrorism would go away once a Democrat President was elected. Yes, they really are that delusional. Very sad indeed.

It’s not about security, it’s about placing scanners that were purchased from Obama supporters and contributors $$$$$ with your tax dollars.
Ryan commented:
Maybe they could check immigration status at the bus stations too while they are at it!
Redwine commented:
Troll too much, eh, John?
Just how is a naked scan that doesn’t detect explosives, but contravenes 4th Amendment rights a “welcome development”? Oh, and make sure you blame Bush for this, too. The Patriot Act, which was voted on by the Congress, was designed to track suspected terrorist activity, not turn every American citizen into a potential terrorist. The illegal activities of the TSA is a function of the expanding police state.
Welcome to the gulag, John-boy.
Andreas K. commented:
Completely and utterly pointless.
John, there is NO way that this can prevent a terror attack. Does the term “car bomb” mean anything to you?
I believe they are just producing more nice targets for any potential terrorists. The queues for these checks are perfect targets. The checkpoints themselves as well.
This stuff is absolutely pointless.
Rich commented:
The republicans would be the forst ones to yell and scream and poop their britches at the government if the US was attacked by a terrorist because the government DIDN’T take it seriously enough.
Ya can’t have it both ways.
Climb out of your holes and enjoy the sunshine and realize it’s 2010– the world is not a safe place.
Remember, we’re at war with the bad guys just like we were prior to 08.
And don’t tell me all terrorists are Middle-eastern . Timmy McViegh was a terrorist. Does that mean that all white folk are then terrorists?
Didn’t think so.
Andreas K. commented:
Rich, how is this going to stop a terror team armed with automatic rifles and explosives who are targetting the bus station?
Answer: it won’t, it will give them a lot of easy targets.
This is 100% pointless.
You’re seriously comparing Timmy with the millions of mohammedans who have waged war on the west for the past 1,400 years? Seriously? I mean, really?
The world has never been a safe place. Why is stuff like that not done in Israel? Because they have a plan, while your US government is blundering around like a child with a nuclear bomb.

It would almost be funny if it weren’t so serious and tragic. Their absolute contempt for us is so nakedly obvious it’s mind-blowing. They don’t even pretend otherwise.

If you refuse the bus station scan, will you get groped in public or will you get thrown out of the station and be fined $11,000?
Chisum commented:
Rich,
Did McVeigh slam a plane or a bus or a train into that building?
I don’t think so.
So how is citing him relevant to the terrorist acts that we are currently trying to prevent?
It seems to me that the terrorist acts that we are currently trying to prevent have been committed by muslims.
Btw, white people can be muslims, too.
Wrap your head around that concept.

Richtard?? Do you have any idea WHOM we are being threatened by???? You’re retarded so you probably don’t. But I can tell you this WHITE GRANNIES passing thru TOLEDO’S Greyhound station are not a threat. Anyone taking TERRORISTIC threats seriously would understand EXACTLY WHO THE THREATS ARE EMINATING FROM and would take actions accordingly. The KENYAN DUMFUKK isn’t addressing the TERRORISTS, because he DRUNK 2 DADDIES were both MUZZTARDS. Odumbfukk has no problem profiling whitey…none at all. Obama is neither serious nor intelligent. He doesn’t even have the balls to call TERRORISM…TERRORISM. What’s the term he uses??? MAN CAUSED DISASTERS???
They are MUZZTARD CAUSED DISASTERS. That’s who we need to scan and profile.

Ah, I feel much better now!
Rhinestone Suderman commented:
I suspect that if—God forbid—a bus station were to be attacked by terrorists, it would be a Mumbai style scenario, involving rampaging gunmen.
TSA, as it’s set up now, can’t prevent that, and couldn’t prevent anyone if such an attack occurred.
Rhinestone Suderman commented:
They admit in the article itself that they don’t have any real reason to be searching the passengers at this bus station, they’re trying to invent the wheel, as they so cutely put it.
Talk about your unwarranted stopping and searching. . .
(Above, I should have said, “protect anyone” instead of “prevent anyone.” Very sorry!)
Arch commented:
It’s an understatement to claim that the Obama administration is clueless.
I understand why terrorists prefer to attack airliners. Airplane crashes are spectacular, nearly always fatal and make the 6 O’clock News. On the prevention side, aircraft are expensive and operate in space that can be isolated and controlled.
Buses, on the other hand, are numerous, low value and difficult targets to protect, because they operate on public roads. You needn’t board a bus the blow one up. Just follow the vehicle to Betsy’s Diner in Mule Shoe OK and attach 5 pounds of C4 under the frame while the three wino riders and the driver are eating their blue plate special.

Security for buses isn’t 3% of a good idea.
Is DHS going to provide “bus’ marshals? Will all bus stations be forced to provide a secure side? Who will operate the scanners? Greyhound? Trailways? TSA? Will they screen baggage? If a passenger checks a bag but doesn’t get on the bus, will the bus leave the station? How will the driver know?
Oops, I misspoke. My Okie wife informs me Mule Shoe is in Texas.

Gini commented:
When they say bus stations do they mean Greyhound or the regular commuter busses? And what about trains? I can just see Grand Central Station at rush hour with everyone lined up to go through the scanners. And let’s not forget the subways. Such a market for scanners which don’t work but delay and harrass people.
But we refuse to profile or employ dogs……………
OTT – With all the complaints voiced about scanners and gropes, has anyone heard of a woman in a burka refusing to be felt up? I haven’t. Very strange.

Eric Cantor is creating an entirely new set of rules for appropriations. Instead of the massive omnibus bills or even bills at the department level (e.g., defense, labor, commerce, etc.) funds will be made available in small bills with lots of guidance attached. I cannot see scanner acquisition or maintenance as a House priority. EPA will no longer be funded under the DoE bill. It will get its own, face a huge cut and see language restricting what can and cannot be done with the money. Those reparations budgets Congress is putting in place will not see money appropriated, even through Agriculture or Justice. I can hardly wait.

Rhinestone says that I somehow want to “blame Bush” even though its Obama who is being blamed on this blog and others. Um, Bush was the one who did the expansion of the TSA and the Patriot Act and stuff–all of which harm terrorists while not affecting law abiding citizens–so yeah, I will blame Bush for protecting us against terrorism, but you will continue to lie about Obama for no reason, even while Bush and the current Republicans support and are the force behind the kind of anti-terror policies with which you disagree.

This is totally pointless. There are 100s of Greyhound bus stops around the country that are simply stops on the side of the road. Anyone who wants to blow up or hijack a Greyhound bus simply has to wait at one of those. There is no one there to check anything. If he wants to blow up the Greyhound station he can do that before being searched. Just saying. This won’t make you safe on the bus, but it will make bus travel more chaotic than it already is. I’m really looking forward to my next bus ride now. Not really.
