The Obama propaganda department shifted into high gear after The New York Times reported this week that the death panels were recently inserted back into Obamacare.
The Hill reported:

The Obama administration is trying to quiet talk about so-called “death panels” after The New York Times reported Sunday that a new Medicare regulation includes incentives for end-of-life-care planning.

The Medicare policy will pay doctors for holding end-of-life-care discussions with patients, according to the Times. A similar provision was dropped from the new healthcare reform law after Republicans accused the administration of withholding care from the sick, elderly and disabled.

However, an administration spokesman said the regulation, which is less specific than the reform law’s draft language, is actually a continuation of a policy enacted under former President George W. Bush.

“The only thing new here is a regulation allowing the discussions … to happen in the context of the new annual wellness visit created by [healthcare reform],” Obama spokesman Reid Cherlin told The Wall Street Journal.

In 2003, Medicare added a consultation visit for seniors new to the program, according to the Journal. Another 2008 law, enacted under Bush, said the visit can include “end-of-life” planning discussions.

Sarah Palin, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, sparked controversy last summer when she said the reform law’s end-of-life provision would create “death panels,” in which “government bureaucrats” would decide who receives care.

  1. Obama is now The Terminator, just in another context.

  2. Looks like a very well planned propaganda initiated to keep the marxist/ fascists in the media as well as the Democratic party happy.

NYT is saying ” hey don’t worry, the death panels are still there, Obama didn’t cave under pressure from Republicans and American people ”

and the WH is saying ” Bush did it, blame him”

Until someone like Rush and Laura and the Judge and Jim take control of the conversation about the funding and modus operandii of the said death panels.

Here is what it means in plain English :

Every medicare patient will be required to get approval from their doctor ( who will work under direct control of some committee of file-pushing grim reapers )
EVERY YEAR to determine if the patient should be granted an extension of life, for one year at a time.

  4. Until someone like Rush and Laura and the Judge and Jim take control of the conversation about the funding and modus operandii of the said death panels,
this issue will become another screaming match between the communists and American people :
    ” Bush did it ”
    ” did not ”
    “did too”
    ” no he didn’t
    ” yes he did “

  6. We’re still free to purchase whatever further care we want. Only poor people need be concerned.

  7. It is not Bush’s fault. The White House is making this stuff up. We wanted the health care plan to be repeal. We don’t want the government control of the health care. Hope that the new Congress will solve this problem. Obama will be out of the office in 2012. We will have a new Republican president in the White House.

  8. i read an article a few months back that i wish i could find again but it concerned a young woman with disabilities. she was concerned that others would consider her life not worth living even though she apreciates her life the way it is – warts and all. i saw a similar story somewhere else and both stories had something in common – their expressed fear of other people judging the quality of their life…..

  9. The Democrats have clearly demonstrated their desire to have less Americans.

Young, Old does not matter to the Democrats.

  10. i wonder if there will be a discussion on the quality of life for babies and children who require extensive medical services? the self absorbed members of our society have a thing about “their money” being wasted on the elderly and disabled [unless they have a direct connection]. when the “greater good of society” left you off the list. the kerrys and the obamas will still be able to buy their services while the near-do-wells will be standing in line with all the rest.

a ruling class type of society with an dispensible class of serfs. sometimes i think that it’s really just a 2 group issue and a whole lot of obama supporters are on the losing side and it’s not the right they need to keep their eyes on. i stumbled onto a conspiracy type site and
normally i’d snort and move on but……..

  14. “Another 2008 law, enacted under Bush, said the visit can include “end-of-life” planning discussions.” i heard them say that, but what is the culpability of the senate and congress? sometimes their arguments leave out points that can change the whole direction of the argument. if the panel was set up in tarp[?] didn’t the most wonderful dreamy brilliant man in the whole world sign on [quick someone get me the smelling salts for my vapors]? usually the guy who smelt it dealt it so to speak. the most ethical congress to ever grace this land took the reins of control in 2007.

  15. I have a feeling Obama is instituting “End of Life Planning” for all his critics. So who cares if those critics are only 37 yrs old? It’s a Government “service” donthca know.

I wish I could agree with that, but you may be losing sight of two things. First of all, we are all becoming poorer by the day. With one more major stock market collapse, continued job losses, or rampant inflation, half of the people in this country could easily fall below the poverty line in a matter of weeks. The definition of “rich” or “wealthy” could change VERY quickly. Most people are counting on their retirement nest eggs to help with their medical costs when they retire. As Social Security begins to collapse, and retirement plan values decline, those who have planned to use their retirement funds for their medical care may be in for a big surprise. And, with all the talk of seizing 401K plans, nationalizing them, and spreading them around to the “less fortunate”, practically nobody’s wealth is safe. Many people have already experienced this. Just ask anyone whose pension has collapsed, or any one of the many people who got burned by the Enron fiasco…

Secondly, as this whole health care house of cards begins to collapse, the number and quality of doctors is bound to decline. Working in an overloaded clinic for peanuts was not what the people who spent years in medical school had in mind. I’ve read surveys that indicate that a large percentage of doctors are already planning to retire, or move away from medicine. Fewer doctors means higher costs to use those doctors, so the “rich” people who think they will just be able to buy the care they want may be in for a surprise when the cost of a hip replacement shoots up to half a million dollars. And that’s assuming that our government doesn’t decide that it’s unfair to allow the people with money to purchase extra care. If they can tell us what we HAVE to buy, how long will it be before they begin telling us what we CAN’T buy?

This administration has known full well from the very beginning that the Obamacare numbers just don’t add up. There simply aren’t enough people working and paying taxes to fund this monstrosity and allow everyone to “keep their doctor” and the level of care they’ve come to expect. The cost of providing even basic care for EVERYBODY, regardless of their ability to pay, will be enormous. And, since everything the government gets involved in always winds up costing way more than anticipated, the cost is going nowhere but up. The promises of cost reductions are nonsense…

So, they are scrambling around, trying to figure out how they are going to keep the system from collapsing under the weight of those growing costs. This was all obvious to anyone who took the time to read the bill, but since they decided to ram it down our throats and pass it without reasonable debate, and let us find out what’s in it later, they will be forced to re-write it as they go now. It will truly become a living, breathing document, sort of like what they are doing to the document we call our Constitution

Any fool can see that the easiest way to control costs is to reduce the ranks of the beneficiaries, especially the ones who require the most expensive care. Specifically, the elderly, and the children unlucky enough to be born sick. The costs of caring for those patients are much higher than they are for everyone else. For every cost-prohibitive patient they remove from the ranks, they can provide coverage for several other “less expensive” people. Of course, it’s certainly no coincidence that those “less expensive” patients will be the young and middle-aged people, who typically vote Democratic, as opposed to our infants, who don’t vote at all, and our elderly, who are far more likely to be conservative Republicans… Eliminating those patients from the mix, by simply limiting the amount of care they are eligible receive and accelerating their deaths, will greatly expand the level of care they can deliver to everyone else, shifting the voter base into their favor in the process.

Never mind the fact that millions of those elderly people have been paying their insurance premiums for years, with the promise that they would be taken care of in their old age. If it sounds familiar, it should. The same thing is being done with Social Security. Breaking promises and stealing our money have become standard operating procedure for our government. The promise of prosperity and the freedoms that used to be keystones of American life will be snatched away from us, one by one, under this plan. And they wonder why we accuse this administration of being anti-American….

I only have one question … when are we going to stand up and put an end to this crap?

  17. I don’t know why they would pay the doctors for end-of-life planning in the first place. If you get a cancer diagnosis, you don’t pay the doctor separately for his advice in how to deal with the disease. Most end-of-life planning is legal work and should be done with a lawyer, not a doctor anyway.

  18. Mollo, perhaps you don’t understand. The “end of life planning” they have in mind is a candid discussion with your doctor, where he explains to you, and your family, that Obamacare won’t cover the treatments you need, because you are no longer a productive citizen capable of paying taxes, and you are simply going to be allowed to die. The discussion’s purpose will be to ease the shock of learning that your life no longer has value, and to justify their decision to let you die. Of course, they will also explain which drugs are available under Obamacare to ease your suffering in your final days.

It’s certainly not going to be advice on how to extend your life, improve your treatment, protect your estate, or provide for your family….

This is another reason why many doctors are considering leaving the profession. Nobody who has taken the oath to do no harm is going to be comfortable having a discussion like that with anybody whose life could be prolonged with commonly available treatments.

  19. Squeaky @ #8 – I can back that up. I have Type I Diabetes and sure, life’s not always roses. I can’t tell you how many time I’ve treated a low blood sugar only to have it spike high thanks to me treating the low. But you know what? I love my life. Warts and all. Sure, I have days that get me down, but everyone has days like that, whether they have disabilities or not.

And I don’t need any politicians telling me that my life is worthless.

  20. The fascist dems have a code word for truth…..”myth” . Whenever they talk as if debunking a “myth”, it is spin damage control for an absolute factual truth . This is how an agenda built on big lies operates.
