Maybe someday the Jews in America will wake up to the absolute hatred and hostility the left has for the State of Israel.
This is just disgusting.

Israeli firefighters watch a devastating fire in the city of Kyriat Karmel, Carmel Forest, near Israel’s northern city of Haifa. 41 people have died in the fires. (AFP)

A leading leftist website is urging liberals not to donate to Israeal’s fire relief fund… Because Israel is a “rich” country.
The Atlantic today is urging liberals to turn their back on Israel:

Inevitably, the Jewish National Fund, which, among other things, plants forests in Israel, is asking for donations from Americans for its “Forest Fire Emergency Campaign,” in response to the massive fire spreading across the Carmel mountains. But I’m not giving.

Israel’s per capita GDP is nearly $30,000. Israel is a rich country. The fact that it doesn’t possess adequate firefighting equipment is its own fault. The fact that the leadership of its fire service is incompetent is its own fault (you can read more about that here). At some point, the good-hearted Diaspora Jews who still think of Israel as a charity case are going to have to tell their cousins to learn to fully-fund basic services like firefighting if they want to be thought of as citizens of an advanced country.

How awful.
By the way… The fires this week that killed 41 people were set by “Arab” youths. It wasn’t the only fire. Israel is battling against a wave of arson attacks set by “Arab” citizens. Israel is under terrorist attack and the left is urging liberals to withhold support.
Unbelievable.

  1. The world is fastly becoming aware that the hate and murderous methods employed by the radical muslim scum of the planet is exactly the same as that demonstrated by the left. They have the same purpose, have the same goals, they use the same tactics and they serve the same god. The left in America is the single most dangerous and corrupted enemy on our soil today. Just to be perfectly clear, this is the American media and the democrat party.

  2. So when the left in this country call conservatives “Nazis”, it’s just a form of projection.

  3. PaleRyder, the American left is the single most dangerous and corrupted enemy in the world today. These people care nothing for Democracy. Their intent it world wide totalitarianism.

I’m dumbfounded to see anything so blatant in the American press though. Absolutely flabbergasting.

  4. Radical Islam and our Progressive Party are two of the same. Our Democratic party was hijacked the same as Islam was/is. The Muslim world was one of the most advanced, only to be destroyed by the hatred of radical Islam. The Progressive party is teaching the same hatred of everyone different. Just listen to their leader.

  5. Doin’ my part – never buy The Atlantic or visit their website. Ever. They’re very, very rich and don’t need any more money.

  6. Is this the much heralded humanity the Left say Conservatives lack? Who knew. Evil vicious night crawlers looking to lay claim to everyone’s freedom in their bid to rule.

  7. I don’t understand why American Jews hate their homeland so much.

  8. That’s okay, we Christians will take care of the apple of God’s eye.

The left can take care of the godless and those who belong to the Father of Lies, i.e., the muslims. They all will, after all, be in hell for eternity. Karma, as they would say.

Atlantic Media Company is a print and online media company owned by David G. Bradley and based in the Watergate in Washington, D.C. The company publishes several prominent news magazines and services including The Atlantic and Government Executiveand those belonging to its National Journal Group subsidiary:[1] National Journal, The Hotline, CongressDaily, Technology Daily, and American Health Line.[2][3] The National Journal Group also publishes books and directories, the most known of which is the biennial The Almanac of American Politics.[3]

Nope. Zuckerman transferred ownership to David G. Bradley who owns the National Journal Group in 1999. Who also owns all those things that are listed in my post #10 above.

Don’t count on it. This has been going on for decades and yet they still flock to the Democrat Party and take no action to combat this outright anti-semitic and vileness.

No, unfortunately, American Jews (and Eurpean for that matter) by-and-large are a disgrace to their heritage. I hate to generalize, but facts are facts.

  18. No it isn’t unbelievable at all – the left are corrupt and evil.

  19. The only surprising thing about this article is that you are surprised by any obnoxious thing that the left does or says. I mean, come on. How long can we be surprised by these people. They hate everybody but people who are biggoted in the same way that they are. They love the ‘arabs’ who want to kill them because they hate Christians and Jews more. I guess they hope to be the last ones standing before the muslims get to be the only people on the earth.

It’s such a little Pavlovian mantra now of the sinister Left that Israel is “rich.” Hear it all the time now, but not a peep about the hedonistic, materialistic oil ticks of the Middle East who have so much money, they gold-plate their plumbing, but somehow don’t have much left over for any sort of genuine charity OR feel ANY need to PAY THEIR SLAVES A LIVING WAGE. Where’s ‘The Atlantic’ on those stingy Scrooges?

Saudi Arabia is filthy rich, but THEY didn’t have any rapid-response medical/rescue teams to land in Haiti HOURS after the earthquake. Israel was first on the scene, beating Obama’s response and Haiti is only an hour offshore USA.

  22. This bolg was written by Jeffrey Goldberg and not the Atlantic. He writes for the Atlantic amongst others. He is left of center, but also supports Israel strongly. He does not for example see the ‘settlement issue’ as the crux of the Mid East problem, but rather – the Arab’s non refusal to accept a Jewish state in its midst.

  23. In the interest of the truth here, a Jewish friend of mine, who is well connected in Israel, told me the following: The two men who were detained for setting the fire(s) are Druze, not Arab Muslims. Israeli Druze are normally very loyal to the state, and serve with honor in the Israeli army.

  24. I did a little digging. More on Druze involvement: http://tinyurl.com/2bdu6g5

  25. The Jewish Left is the most screwed-up self-hating bunch I’ve ever seen. They’ll never learn. If the Leftist anti-Semite leaders threw them into camps tomorrow, they’d blame Bush, Palin and Beck.

  26. It’s not unbelievable.

Liberals/progressives/communists are soulless individuals that could care less about their fellow human beings.

They care about themselves and the destruction they cause others.

  27. I stand corrected per Jim’s posts above and below: http://tinyurl.com/37sdpep I originally thought that this was a Arab/Muslim terrorist act. I have wondered for some time, too, about fires in California and Colorado along the same lines…

According to the Atlantic:”Jeffrey Goldberg is a national correspondent for The Atlantic.” When he writes it and then the Atlantic publishes it to their web site or in their magazine, they both own it and he’s speaking for them.

Goldberg’s support of Israel includes support of the “two state solution,” which would equal suicide for Israel. Further, while he may not “see the ‘settlement issue’ as the crux of the Mid East problem” he does refer to Israeli construction in their own nation and even in their nation’s capital city as “settlements,” as if the Israelis are squatting in Israel. Worse, he foolishly believes that Israel could solve the whole Palestine problem by giving up the “settlements” and other lands to the “Palestinians.”

  31. Jeff Goldberg (the author of the Atlantic blog post quoted here) left college in the US for Israel where he served in the Israeli Defense Forces as a prison guard during the First Intifada. So talk of “absolute hatred and hostility .. for the State of Israel” may be a little overwrought.

  32. Crusty @ #34

“Maybe someday the Jews in America will wake up to the absolute hatred and hostility the left has for the State of Israel.”

“Jeffrey Goldberg served in the IDF.”

Please tell me how these two factual statements contradict each other or how the latter causes the former to be “overwrought.” (Where’d you pick up that word, “overwrought,” by the way? From your 85 year old grandmother when talking to the other blue hairs at the beauty shop?)

  33. Mad Auntie @ #34,

I’ll try to type slowly for you. In this post, Goldberg is supposed to be Exhibit A for the first statement you quote. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that for an American-born Jew to move to Israel and serve in the IDF is stereotypical behavior of someone with an “absolute hatred” of Israel.

Now maybe you’ve never heard of Goldberg before and you suspect he’s radically changed since then. If so, I’d suggest you read through his blog. I’m sure you’ll find plenty to disagree with. But he’s not Israel hater, far from it.

  34. Goldberg is a liberal? A hater of Israel? You’re either painfully ignorant or a good old fashioned liar.

  35. Hee hee. Goldberg is an israeli hater? Conservatives would be funny if they weren’t so sad.

  36. When we had the wildfires in 2007 here in SoCal, we still needed help from private charities like the Red Cross and assistance from other fire departments. Canada loaned the planes that dumped water on the fires. Many of the homes hit were in the wealthiest neighborhoods in the county. Over 1 million people had to be evacuated just in my area alone, not counting the fires in Orange County or in Los Angeles County. It doesn’t matter if your country is “rich,” you still need help after a natural disaster. Maybe Mr. Goldberg has never seen a forest besides Central Park but once a wildfire gets going in hot, windy, dry conditions it can be extremely difficult to stop.

  37. Or should I say a man-made natural disaster in this case.

  38. @Gman: “I don’t understand why American Jews hate their homeland so much.”

Are you an anti-semite? American Jews’ homeland is here in the USA.

  39. “Homeland” means “the land of their ancestors” in the traditional sense. It has been adopted by Homeland Security and therefore a lot of people do not know its original meaninng.

  40. So now even Goldberg is anti-Semitic? That term has finally lost all of its original meaning.

It used to mean people who felt the Jewish people were inferior or evil in some sense. Now it just means you don’t support every single thing the government of Israel does.

And another thing to the posters here: In your minds are the left “soulless individuals that could care less about their fellow human beings” like you claim today, or do they want more government spending to give benefits to the poor like you were screaming yesterday? One day its the left are evil bastards who want to kill, and the next is the left are evil bastards who want to take your money and help undeserving people

  41. “‘Homeland’ means ‘the land of their ancestors’ in the traditional sense.”

Well, then that can’t be used by the vast majority of American Jews to describe a state established in 1948, now, can it? Love of the ancient home of the Jews isn’t really the same thing as blind loyalty to the right wing of a state whose interests don’t always align to the country to whom one owes actual allegiance.

  42. Mad Auntie : ‘Where’d you pick up that word, “overwrought,” by the way? From your 85 year old grandmother when talking to the other blue hairs at the beauty shop?’

Yeah, Crusty! Stop using words of more than two syllables, you East Coast Elitist!

  43. Wow, you conservatives have really come unhinged.

  44. Interesting that the conservative commenters here think Jews shouldn’t be Democrats. Meanwhile, in Texas, a Jewish Republican is facing some opposition by Republicans who would prefer a Christian in his position. (http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/12/05/the-texas-gops-no-jews-policy-christian-conservatives-only-please/)

  45. Daisy,

“The left can take care of the godless and those who belong to the Father of Lies, i.e., the muslims. They all will, after all, be in hell for eternity. Karma, as they would say.”

You really think Muslims believe in Karma? Try using a dictionary. It’s a Hindu/Buddhist concept – two religions which Islamic extremists hate.

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/karma

  46. FWIW, Goldberg is a descendant of Confederate Gen. Beauregard.

  47. The fire was not caused by Arab saboteurs, but by a 14-year-old school boy sneaking a smoke out in the woods: “A 14-year-old boy arrested Monday has admitted to setting the fire accidentally and was now the main suspect, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld… The boy told police he had been smoking a water pipe Thursday and threw some burning coals into an open area in the Carmel forest. He said he panicked, fled the scene and returned to school without telling anyone, Rosenfeld said.”

Living out west here in California, where fire is a constant yearly threat, I would never suggest anyone hold back on aid to those in need for any reason, much less petty political ones, but I can also understand why so many Israeli citizens are now criticizing their own government for its failure to have adequate stockpiles of fire retardant chemicals on hand, or a single firefighting plane. You do need to prepare for these eventualities, especially in a dry climate. It’s terrible they lost so much of their beautiful forest, and all those people. I’m sure this will be a painful lesson.

  48. And now I hear that Palestinian firefighters were actually part of the international team that helped put out the forest fire. http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/content/view/full/98490

It seems like some people here have some learning to do. Or I guess they can continue to make stuff up and jump to conclusions.

  49. Once again, we see the straw man arguments, over-reaction and hyperventilation that the American right usually applies to darned near every problem. So one writer, in one magazine says that American Jews shouldn’t give to Israel to help repair the damage of the forest fires. So the obvious conclusion is that all left leaning American Jews hate Israel, and no longer support the Jewish state. Never mind the pleas for donations heard across thousands of Conservative and reform Shul’s this Friday, the emails from various “liberal” Jewish groups asking for us to support our brethren, or the millions of discussions about supporting Israel that inevitably took place around the dinner table this Channukah. Never mind that darned near every Jewish person I know is left of center to some degree, and I personally know dozens that have already donated to JNF (including myself).

And if you really are going to accuse people of hatred, you best get your own facts straight. Looks like the main fire was accidentally set by a teenager out for a smoke, the Palestinian authority actually sent 4 or 5 fire trucks to help fight the blaze, and even Turkey kicked in some help.

Reading these comments really makes me sick – it looks like those on the right really can’t differentiate be tween real terrorists and radicals, vs. anyone who happens to even remotely disagree with them. I think you guys really need to take a breath and think about what you say before you do – It might make you sound less idiotic then most of these comments.

    L’hit,

    Cosmo

  50. Oh, and one more think – Goldberg is one of the most pro-Israel bloggers out there, routinely supporting Israel in the face of most criticism. And if you were to actually take the time to READ his article (something I’d be willing to bet most people who commented didn’t actually do) he states that people should still help Israel in general, and I quote: “There are a great many good causes in Israel that deserve help”. He, for whatever reason feels that Israel shouldn’t rely on the diaspora to fund basic civil services. Whether you agree or not, that’s worthy of rational debate, not out of hand attacks and slander.

    Cosmo.

  51. From Peter Beinart’s column today, an open letter to Netanyahu, including these interesting comments on at least one reason for the failure of the ministry responsible for fighting the Carmel fire to be adequately prepared:

“These young, cosmopolitan, educated Israelis are exactly the ones you [Netanyahu] can’t afford to lose. They’re leaving for graduate school, and jobs in finance and high-tech and a thousand other things, but they’re also leaving because they want to be connected to the world, not only economically, but politically and culturally as well. And they’re not thrilled about spending a month a year as army reservists manning checkpoints in the West Bank. Offer them a future of mounting international isolation and no prospect for peace, and watch them flood into Williamsburg and West L.A. Maybe you can console yourselves that their ultra-Orthodox counterparts—who don’t work, don’t serve in the army, have an average of seven children per family, and drain the government coffers dry—aren’t going anywhere. Luckily for you, one of their parties, Shas, controls the ministry charged with fighting the fires that last week ravaged Israel. Shas’ spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef, helpfully volunteered that the fires were God’s punishment for Israelis who didn’t keep the Sabbath.”

Of course the real reason, as I said above, was a kid out sneaking a smoke in the woods. The rest of Beinart’s column is worth reading too:
