RNC Chairman Michael Steele announced yesterday that he would run for reelection as chair of the Republican Party. Steele also took credit for the historic landslide in November. The Republican Party picked up 63 seats in the US House of Representatives, 6 Senate seats, including Barack Obama’s former seat and over 600 seats in the several state elections.
Steele went on with Greta Van Susteren after he made the announcement yesterday:

Steele almost handed the GOP major defeats with his hostility towards the Tea Party movement, and those candidates who were supported by them. If he had kept his mouth shut and supported the GOP primary winners there might have been a Republican majority in the Senate. But his lack of support and even disguised hostility towards those candidates aided the Dems and the MSM. They used his attitude towards these candidates as a weapon.
Perhaps they should offer the job to Sarah Palin instead. At least she is ready for political fights, and not worried that she won’t get invited to the varous talking heads shows, or the next DC cocktail party.

The TEA Party movement was responsible for the historic landslide in November. Isn’t Steele a RINO like Powell?
CT commented:
Sarah would be an interesting candidate for RNC Chair, certainly a lightening rod and she would get a lot press. Sarah has been an effective fundraiser for the Party, but does she have the discipline to be the RNC Chair?
Steele maybe a RINO, but like Steels not Powell.

Steele doesn’t seem to know truth.

Steele gave a good interview as usual. All year he has been encouraging tea party influence. I don’t see Steele as another Colin Bowell movement. I have never heard Steele say Rino code lingo such as “we republicans need to be more compassionate” . Steele inherited from Bush an RNC stuffed full of weak kneed liberal appeasers who like going along with the big government agenda . I question the fairness of blaming Steele for too many establishment candidates lacking in good american principles. State party chairmen in blue states have a lot to do with all these boring incompetant country club candidates that get pushed on us. It wasn’t Michael Steele doing everything he could to assure the defeat of Sharon Angle, Joe Miller , and Christine O’Donnell.
RedBeard commented:
Steele taking credit for the big win is like a stadium announcer taking credit for a team’s big win. It’s one more sign that he hasn’t the stuff to be in that job.

Mr. Steele garnered more press about his personal spending than raising monies for the RNC.He is damaged goods and the Tea Party membership needs someone who understands:stop spending and limited government to head the RNC.
Mike O commented:
Yeah, we have a RINO State Speaker making the same outlandish claim. Might as well take credit for gravity (or the internet).

The GOP won because they were not Democrats and they won despite Steele!

How very Orwellian of him to say that. His eyes betray him.
Bill Mitchell commented:
How does Steele have any chance whatsoever for re-election? I guess I’m a racist since I am opposed to all self-absorbed idiots.

This interview is one of dozens that prove Michael Steele’s efforts to be in with the tea party. It is the tea party that rebuffs Mr Steele for no apparent reason as a personna non grata . This is not a classy move especially when the leading accusation coming from democrats is that we are a racist organization that does not welcome minorities. Now if Mr Steele is talking like tea party, but selects corrupt candidates behind our back that meet the approval of Lindsey Graham Rinos , I would support his removal. However, the burden is on the bouncers to prove these violations of trust. . … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyn9ObjdiKc

Time for new leadership within the GOP. We lost a seat in Alaska primarily because of a hostile rebuke of a Tea Party favorite. Steele represents the good old boy hardliners within the Republican Party more concerned with staying in DC than in returning America to her greatness. While Palin or Bachmann come to mind (maybe because they drive the left crazy) I suspect there are others who may also be viable choices. The fact that this tax fiasco is where it is, shows that the old guard is reluctant to embrace what an overwhelming number of Republican voters are screaming for. Bottom line every letter I wrote to my elected representatives was answered and not by some POS form letter but a personal letter that addressed my concerns, of the many I wrote to the RNC I nerved received one reply, zero, zilch, nada, zip they are nothing but self concerned dolts.

I used to like Michael Steele, now I wish he just would go away.

Gee #5, guess you missed the “…blacks have NO reason to vote GOP…” comment to a black youth group. Or how about that the GOP must accomadate blacks special needs?
#13 steele siding with the Tea Party? Guess you missed all the funding to Christ, Scuzzyflava, Spector against the local GOP choices. How about his attacks of the TP selections?
The steeles & powels should fess up and come out of the closet…they are beyound rinos.
