Good Grief. Sore Loser Ike Skelton Says His Loss May Mean the End of the Union

Go away, Ike.
Liberal Democratic Rep. Ike Slelton (D-MO) told supporters yesterday that his loss may mean, borrowing the eloquent words of President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, that the nation “so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.”
Good grief.

The Fix reported:

U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., defeated in November after 17 terms in the U.S. House, said this afternoon that he leaves Congress with anxiety about the future given members’ recent inability to reach compromise on difficult matters.

“In the past, this body has worked best after great debates, when men and women of strong principles have met and compromised,” he said in a farewell speech.

“As a result of the last election, the center has been hollowed out and more members will represent extreme points of view, which is likely to make meaningful compromise difficult, if not impossible.

“Once again, our system of government and our citizenry will be tested, and the outcome will determine — borrowing the eloquent words of President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address — ‘whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure’.”

Skelton, 78, of Lexington, will be replaced in January by Vicky Hartzler, a Republican and former member of the Missouri General Assembly who rode to office along with many new Republicans on the strength of a massive protest vote in November.

For some reason it didn’t bother Ike when democrats rammed through their stimulus or nationalized health care bill on a straight party line vote. Only since he lost his seat has extreme partisanship become a problem in Washington.
Good-bye, Ike.

More… Lindsey added this:

Democrats who marched up to the House with Pelosi holding a giant gavel in order to try to start trouble.
Democrats who physically locked Republicans out of rooms where there were meetings on policy.
Democrats who passed bills late at night on weekends and holidays.
Democrats who wouldn’t let the people see what was in a bill until it was passed.
Democrats who have a Speaker filling in for Pelosi who won’t let a Republican speak even though no one in the House chamber objects.
And these are the same Democrats calling for civility, bipartisanship and cooperation now.
Tell the Democrats to go to hell and stay there.
No retreat.
No surrender.
No compromise.
Not now.
Not ever.

Agreed.
