Race hustler Al Sharpton says his group is going to go to the FCC next week to get Rush Limbaugh off the air.

“We’re not going to stand by and let publicly regulated radio and television just go for marketing and promoting this kind of racism,” Al Sharpton said about his campaign to take Rush Limbaugh off the airwaves.
Sharpton says he will be going to the FCC next week to demand Limbaugh be taken off the air.
“Rush Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he wants to say, he does not have the right, though, to do it on publicly regulated airwaves. The FCC has the responsibility to set standards,” Sharpton added.
“You can’t say — in the name of free speech, you can’t say anything you want,” Al Sharpton said on MSNBC. “We’re not talking about stopping free speech,” he added.
“We’re not telling Rush don’t say what you want to say, say it at home, not on public airwaves,” he concluded.

I have yet to hear Rush Limbaugh say ONE racist thing on his radio show. I have, however, heard Sharpton spew his bigoted, racist drivel on both tv and radio. He’s not fooling anyone. This is all about silencing conservatives and purging conservative viewpoints from our media. They know they got their butts kicked in this last election cycle by talk radio, and they are going to do everything they can to demonize and destroy it. They plan to do the same thing to the internet and the blogosphere. For some strange reason, their viewpoints are fine for public airwaves, but ours aren’t. Well, I have news for them. We outnumber them, and we won’t go quietly. They don’t own the airwaves, or the internet. If a private inventor discovers some other means of communication, like Marconi did in the early 20th century, when does the government assume control of that?
If i invent a new language that is more efficient and exact than any current human language, can the government seize control of it? Is it only because the speech is assisted through technological means that a government may assume authority over it?

Whether we like what they say or not, they have every right to say it. And most of what they say, I agree with. How they say it may be more of what is irking you.

The basic problem is that there’s only so much room in the range of radio frequencies reserved for commercial broadcast radio. You have to have some regulation unless you are willing to live with a scenario wherein I can knock out your radio station by building a more powerful one and broadcasting on the same frequency.
The problem is that those such as Al Sharpton see the need to regulate as equivalent to the right to dictate. There are in fact provisions in the law creating the FCC that grant it the function of requiring all broadcast license holders to demonstrate that they are operating in the public interest. It doesn’t take much to twist the definition of “public interest” to a particular political or social viewpoint.

Something to keep in mind when you hear the word “racist” used by people such as Al is what they hold the word to mean. On the left the word “racist” is defined as “discrimination against someone on the basis of race by people with the power to enforce their viewpoint”. This is what is taught in institutions of higher learning these days. They further hold that white people in general and white men in particular always have this power, and that blacks and other minorities never do. On that basis it is not possible for a black person to commit a racist act. So by their lights a policy such as Al proposes would mean that a black preacher could go on TV and scream that white people are inferior and should all be locked up, but a white preacher could be blocked from saying the same thing about blacks.
