President Raul Castro warned Cubans today that the country is running out of time if they don’t change their failed Soviet-style economic system.
Cadena Gramonte reported:
In a two-hour speech, Raúl Castro emphasized that the initiatives introduced regarding the Cuban economy do not mean the end of the ideals of the revolution to create an equal society, but rather to strengthen, not replace, socialism.
The Cuban leader stressed the need for the country and its leaders to correct mistakes because, otherwise, the Revolution and efforts made by many generations will collapse. Raul Castro said: ¨We are already running out of time. If we don´t change things now, we will bring about the collapse (…) of efforts by many generations.”
Castro recently admitted the state payrolls are padded with more than one million surplus workers. In the country’s most significant reforms since Raul succeeded his brother Fidel in 2008, the country is laying off 500,000 workers by April and is expected to cut another 500,000 to 800,000 in three years.
Castro also warned Cubans about freebies and handouts.
He also warned his countrymen that they’ll have to work in the new Cuba, and can no longer rely on the state for handouts.
“Many of us Cubans confuse socialism with freebies and subsidies, and equality with egalitarianism,” the president said.
Maybe our democratic leaders in Washington could learn a thing or two from the Cuban situation, no?

But…but…but…socialism works, right?
Cuba has never been the same since the fall of the Soviet Union, when the Russians were pumping a million dollars a day into the Cuban economy.
I guess the Cubans really did run out of other people’s money.
Exactly what Margaret Thatcher said would happen.

So members of the Black Caucus, what say you ? Y’all ready to sit down your behinds on the 3rd rail now ?

What Cuba needs is to model the U.S. It needs MORE Communism.

Funny, Obama was heard today yelling:
“We are running out of time! If we don’t change things now, we WON’T bring about the collapse!”

Confusing socialism with ‘freebies and subsides’ dosen’t consider how hard the rulers work to control the masses
Freddy commented:
What Cuba is admitting is that making all the people into slaves of the state does not work. If the people they are tossing into the streets succeed, then the government workers are going to be upset. If the people being tossed out of the government fail, they will blame the government for that failure. Either way, this problem is not going to go away quietly.
Look for Cuba to attempt another mass migration of people out of their country, like they did in the 80′s.

seems to me, 95% of all black voters know better than the castro brothers what socialism is.

Poor Castro, having to lie to his people by telling them that freebies and subsidies are not the engines of the socialism train.
But really, what else can he say? The truth, that his filthy brother’s socialism and communism and statism are complete, utter, disastrous failures which have impoverished his people and turned the island into a backwards and non-functioning swamp? No, I think he wants to avoid accidentally falling on a bullet some night.

Corporate fascism is now available in the US. Capitalism is gone. According to Obama and his minions you are mandated to buy something or else. No wonder the goons, errrrr… I mean communists in the other parts of the world are opening their eyes. It didn’t work for them.
I guess America will have to show the rest of the world how to destroy pure capitalism. When the govt. and corporations are in bed together, and the govt. forces you to buy a product, that is corporate facism. End of story.
Unfortunately, the New World Order goons (Bill Clinton, George Soros, Obama, the Bush family, Larry Summers, Cheney, and Brezinski and Wolfowitz) call it Communitarianism. A clever name created by progressives on both sides of the aisle to conceal its facist markings.
Josh commented:
Heck…. while we are at it.. why don’t we just replace the torch (on the Statue of Liberty) with a big hammer and sickle. The inscription could then say, “Come to me all you who are serfs. Lick the boots of your masters. Buy our products or pay a $750 fine and go to jail.”
Lady Facism used to be Lady Liberty. Remove the crown and replace it with something more appropriate. Something like….. ehhh….. ummmm… iron beads of sweat.

Gee, I hope this doesn’t affect the great medical care the Cubans have. Maybe when Michael Moore gets out of this latest visit to the hoity-toity fat farm he checked himself into, he can make a follow up movie to Sicko.

I know 2 ladies who escaped from Castro’s Cuba in 1962, when he first came to power. They were teenagers and were brought over here by their parents.
I had a discussion with them 1 night and they are:
1)Die-hard Conservative
2) Anti-Obama to the nth degree. They told me that Obama is doing things exactly like Castro did when he first came to power.
Needless to say they are major Tea-Party people.
Mark commented:
“Maybe our democratic leaders in Washington could learn a thing or two from the Cuban situation, no?”
Socialists are incapable of learning from their failed ideology. The common refrain is that “the right people” were not in charge: enter Obama.
rbosque commented:
I met Castro’s cousin. She said he didn’t even spare his family when when confiscated the family farm and imprisoned many of them. Mindless.
Mad Hatter commented:
The last thing we need is for Cuba to lay off all of these people. I have a bad, bad feeling in the pit of my gut that this will lead to a mass migration, aka, Cuban boat lift Part II, and Obama will “allow Cuban citizens to seek a better life here in America”.
This will be part of Obama’s voter registration drive for Florida, and the Hispanics since he couldn’t get them the DREAM Act.
Please tell me I’m wrong.
Stuart commented:
Mad Hatter #27 I think that you are wrong. Cubans who have emigrated to Florida in the past have been wildly successful. They have a good track record of starting businesses that are successful as well. In addition, their experiences with Communism result in a, usually, conservative, anti Communist political outlook. They often vote Republican. Marco Rubio being a good example.
In short they are often a net gain for this country.
The Mexicans? Not so much.
Mad Hatter commented:
Alright Stuart, you make some good points that give me a better outlook on this. I’m sure you understand my concern considering how the Democrats have a track record of exploiting immigrants for political gain.
dunce commented:
One of obamas stock speeches during his run for the office was a diatribe on how our capitalist system did not help certain people and then “you are on your own” and that when he was president he would change things with govt. programs [ handouts from obamas stash]. He promised bailouts and he has delivered with trillions of taxpayer dollars keeping another of his promises to redistribute the wealth from greedy rich people who “have enough money” to failures and losers that have a dream of being vassels of the state. Those who practice personal responsibility now find that they are being held responsible for the irresponsible who believe that the govt. must supply them with food ,shelter, cell phones, gas, water , electricity, garbage collection, education and health care and greedy rich people must pay for it through taxes ontheir productivity.
Buffalobob commented:
Let us not forget our other great president, Jimmy Carter who allowed the Mariel boat-lift criminals and insane to enter the US. Obama is a least as incompetent as Carter so this is not beyond the realm of possibilities.
Buffalobob commented:
Cubans who fled Castro’s Cuba are one thing. Cubans who now have leave the country because the Gov. teet has run dry will be something entirely different.

Cuba would not have lasted this long if the Soviets had not backed them with billions of rubles…The Soviets were still sending them aid up until the collapse of their own Socialist paradise. noseitall commented:
Sounds like Castro is going to try to pull a North Korea or Palestinian deal, where he makes a few promises to the US and we give him a few billion dollars. There are just too many billions of American dollars going to other places in the world for them to ignore. Watch and see.
