Obama Calls Eagles’ Owner & Applauds Team for Giving Vick Second Chance

Barack Obama applauded the Eagles for giving Michael Vick a second chance.

Though the Eagles didn’t have a chance to make news on the field tonight, they made some more news off the field.
Peter King of NBC reported during Football Night in America that President Barack Obama recently called Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to congratulate the team for giving quarterback Mike Vick a second chance.
President Obama explained that a level playing field rarely exists for prisoners who have completed their sentences. Vick’s success gives all of them hope.
Obama better hope that Vick keeps his nose out of trouble… At least for another two years.
For the record, I like watching Vick play football. But was it a good idea for the president to insert himself into this controversy?… No.

I can think of so many people who deserve a phone call more than Vick, like perhaps some of the folks who had to clean up Vick’s mess, or those who work at the SPCA every day, or an NFL player who chose to be a good role model and not commit a violent felony in his spare time, or… heck you get the point. The relationship between a dog and its human owner is one of nature’s miracles. I can think of only a few such cross species relationships. Human- horse, for example, but only somewhat in that case. Horses are nowhere near dogs in cognitive abilities. Another example, the human-reptile bond, when it exists, is strictly one way. By contrast, when I return from a week long trip, my dogs exhibit a behavior that I can only describe as love. For someone like Vick to exploit such a bond; to torture and kill those who only treat him with affection is beyond foul, Vick has a very damaged soul.
I would wager that at some time in his future some unlucky woman will receive the same treatment as that meted out to Vick’s dogs, and to Nicole Simpson.

I do animal rescue and know for a fact that animal abuse is the first step for many killers. And those who defend the abusers are not far behind. However, my fiance frequents a website that keeps a counter of how long it’s been since an NFL player have been arrested. It is currently set to 0, and he said he rarely sees it get up to double digits. From what I’ve read, Vick paid his legal obligations for his crime, according to U.S. law.

People lose their jobs following a criminal conviction never to be rehired. I’m sure you think they have a right to have their job back, but they don’t. Americans who hold professional licenses find them revoked, many times for life following a criminal conviction. The “he deserves to make a living” argument is risable and only a fool would offer it. I agree with #84. He is evil and should not receive an award for his evil deeds. To hang dogs and kill innocent beings and then justify it?? We humans are over the dominion of animals. He is EVIL. What if it was your dog? This was wrong. And we shouldn’t support a football team that would even allow him to play or those who commit RAPE or other crimes. Where is the example set for the younger generation? Where is your conscience?? Is it with Mayor Barry 3 time crack mayor? Vick is a cruel vile human and should be locked up for many years-for the torture he did–not given his status back–shame of those who applaud him. He was a GROWN ADULT man not a child when he did this–over&over again. The pain, agony those dogs suffered. This makes me sic.
