This past weekend it was reported that Democrats inserted death panel language back into their unpopular health care bill. Democrats defended this move once they were caught by insisting that Bush supported death panels, too.
The Hill reported:

The Obama administration is trying to quiet talk about so-called “death panels” after The New York Times reported Sunday that a new Medicare regulation includes incentives for end-of-life-care planning…

However, an administration spokesman said the regulation, which is less specific than the reform law’s draft language, is actually a continuation of a policy enacted under former President George W. Bush.

“The only thing new here is a regulation allowing the discussions … to happen in the context of the new annual wellness visit created by [healthcare reform],”
Obama spokesman Reid Cherlin told The Wall Street Journal.

In 2003, Medicare added a consultation visit for seniors new to the program, according to the Journal. Another 2008 law, enacted under Bush, said the visit can include “end-of-life” planning discussions.

Not true.
Republican analyst Matt Schlapp corrected this latest lie by the Obama Administration.
Bush vetoed the end of life provision that went into law in 2008.

RedState has more.

What The Hill’s Jason Millman forgot to mention in his article was that President Bush VETOED the 2008 bill and the Democrats, along with some “good-willed” Republicans OVERRODE Bush’s veto forcing him to sign the legislation into law.  The bill dealt with doctors’ reimbursements and more, but the Democrats slipped in the end-of-life planning by opening up the Social Security Act, which I have stated many times is dangerous, because once changed, it is difficult to amend again and allows for tinkering with the Medicare fee schedule and covered services definitions and requirements.

The fact that the Obama Administration claimed that the Bush Administration supported the end of life provision is a complete lie.
And, they know it.

Critics charge Democrats with dirty tricks to keep death panels alive.

  17. There are and never were “death panels”. All they are talking about is durable powers of attorney and the right to CHOOSE full resuscitation versus not-WHICH HAVE BEEN REQUIRED OF HOSPITALS TO DOCUMENT FOR OVER A DECADE. It started in the 1980′s became a standard of GOOD hospital practice and has been an inspection point for the Joint Commission for at least ten years. Neither GW Bush OR Obama started it. when you hospital asks you what you want-they have been ordered to do so-AND if you say you don’t want to talk about it-all they have to do is write that down and they are off the hook.
    Quit scaring people with nonsense.
As far as with-holding care-the private insurance companies have that down to a fine art. And those that DON’T have insurance-almost half the population, have that choice made for them by not having insurance, virtually guaranteeing the minimal will be done.

  18. Also-I should note the Joint Commission is a hired by the feds, privately run company formed to research, recommend and enforce “standards of care” which have included “DNR’S for a at least a decade. Hospitals get infractions and frowny faces if they fail to ask patients about their “code” status. Sort of like the federal reserve-not government but powerful.

  19. “The only thing new here is a regulation allowing the discussions … to happen in the context of the new annual wellness visit created by [healthcare reform],”
    ———–
Lets translate this craptalk . Here is what this DC critter is actually saying :

    1. There is a new provision which has been sneaked in which was not supposed to be found out.

    2. Obama’s Grannicidal law creates a new mandate for medicare patients to have an annual evaluation by the ” doctor”

    3. The ” doctor” will grant extension of life , in one year increments to medicare patients

    4. The ” doctor” will be regulated
( by representatives of Obama / Ezekial Emmanual / Holdren / Cloward n Piven / etc)

    5. The regulated doctor will determine if the patient is worth granting life extension for one more year, and for this, the doctor will be paid by medicare.

    6. The doctor will be responsible for implementing the culling his regulators order him to do

    7. It will be the doctor’s job to convery the news to the patients if their application for one more year of life has been denied , as well as force patients into agreeing to leave this world.

    8. For these services, the doctor will be paid separately.

    9. The more he works, the more the doctor earns.

    10. Just because its an annual evaluation doesn’t mean that the regulators can’t decide to make it a semi-annual or quarterly evaluation

  20. Collinstard is a MORON. All LIBTARDS are. They seek new ways to lie about that which THEY KNOW is true.

  21. Gus,

    Yep.

Everyone knows that the government is better at making decisions for us than we are at making them ourselves. That always works out well.

Btw, what’s this nonsense about half of Americans don’t have health insurance?

Really? All 154 million of them?

  22. Goodwrench. You’d have to be literally RETARDED or COMPLETELY DISHONEST not to see WHO and WHAT Obama is. He is a MARIXST. Rules do not apply to him. He DOES NOT CARE what he has to do, to make this country MARXIST. Many LIBTARDS are indeed RETARDED. They are the product of MORON teachers in PUBLIC SCHOOLS. But just take 2 minutes and listen to ALAN COLMES. WOW.

  23. Chisum. Obama said on tape several years ago EXACTLY what he wanted. SINGLE PAYER.
Obama has said all along EXACTLY who he is. Unless he is on TOTUS. To not understand who OBAMA is, is a willingness to NOT KNOW.

  24. Chisum!! Again. Obama’s words preceded him. “ELECTRICITY RATES WOULD NECESSARILY SKYROCKET”.

Wtf is wrong with Americans. This fukktard told us who he was. The media pretended not to see it, but OBAMA SAID EXACTLY WHO HE WAS.

Joe the Plumber was 100% correct.
    So was Joe Wilson.

  25. for marxists like muslims its permissible to lie to get your way. so in liberal thought nothing wrong was said.

  26. Gus,

He also said that if we pass “Health Care Reform” our premiums would go down 3000%.

    http://sistertoldjah.com/archives/2010/03/17/healthcare-premiums-to-go-down-3000-percent-under-obamacare/

And that’s working out well, isn’t it?

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, HOST: But what is going to happen? I mean, are
you clear on where a compromise is going to be? It’s got to be discussed
before the end of the year, no?

KRUGMAN: No. Some years down the pike, we’re going to get the real solution, which is going to be a combination of death panels and sales taxes. It’s going to be that we’re actually going to take Medicare under control, and we’re going to have to get some additional revenue, probably from a VAT. But it’s not going to happen now.

are you saying Obama (gasp) lied, but it’s okay because his lies are
about an industry he’s determined to take over due to practices he
    himself has adopted?? hell=O??

re: [And those that DON’T have insurance-almost half the population]

    really??

[The number of uninsured isn't as simple as 47 million. Many of those people aren't Americans, or can afford health insurance and simply opt-out, etc. This number is VERY debatable. It might even be as low as 8 - 9 million Americans.]

    i mean.. REALLY??

[Most people become uninsured because they lose or leave their jobs and
regain insurance coverage when they return to work. In 2007, the Census
Bureau reported that 253.4 million people -- about 85 percent of the total
population -- did have health insurance.

covered.. with 6 feet of dirt, if they’re lucky, that is.. *sigh*

I notice a trend in the propaganda about Obama’s death panels :

    1. There are no death panels, Sarah Palin is lying
    2. There no death panels anymore
    3. There are death panels so don’t you worry all you communists
    4. Bush had death panels too, we just followed Bush
    5. Insurance companies have death panels, why don’t you complain about that ?
    Next :
    6. So we have death panels, whats the big deal ? Get over it
    .

  35. 0bama:

Let me be clear I was for death panels before I was against them… and now I am for them. That should be clear!

Just think of your Granny as a Clunker – old, useless, and expensive! Now you can get cash for that clunker! Just let us pay your doctor to give her “End of Life” counseling and we will put her in the oven for you. You can do what ever you what with her ashes.

My limousine is running and I have an appointment with Nance Pelosi and Dr. Kevorkian. Did you know Dr. Kevorkian was out of jail. Well, he is! And, he is ready to help dispose of your old Granny.

We have got to get the ovens fired up and Dr. Kevorkian’s Mecitron running. Please consider the cost to society of keeping your old Granny alive. Death is so much more efficient. Good day.

  36. channel surfing with a stop at o’reilly with tucker carlson guest hosting – the discussion on death panels had the leftie with the “bush” supported angle. no one brought up that it was
vetoed by Bush. you would expect the conservative atleast to interject that bit of disgarded information. that happens too much – no point counter-point.

  37. These will NOT only target the elderly but ALSO the disabled of ALL ages. These are death panels no matter HOW you look at them. I hate knowing that Social Fabians have infiltrated our government and have legislated this nonsense.

Exactly. Republican pundits should really get all the facts straight and not be afraid to use them!!! I was appalled that the fact that Bush vetoed this provision but Congress overrode his veto was not brought up!

  39. squeaky #37: I caught that, too. It seemed like BS to me, but after no one disputed it, my next thought was that it was a bad idea then just like it’s a bad idea now.

  40. Bush was not FORCED to sign any law. He could have left it on his desk unsigned.
