The Dallas Independent School District recently posted a list of their new magnet schools. They are naming their leadership school after President Barack Obama.
They misspelled his name.

What’s even funnier is that there is zero chance that the misspelling will be corrected before tomorrow, since there is zero chance that school district administrators check their work email over the weekend. This is going to have almost 24 hours to make the rounds in the blogosphere!

Well, I guess technically you are correct. I AM assuming, but I think that you are missing my point here. I don’t know for sure that it WAS a typo.
It very well could be an INTENTIONAL misspelling.

And as I pointed out, I have no experience with the education system, other than attending them, so again naive might be the better word.
I totally understand your natural proclivity to suspect my motives. I have seen some of the actual ‘trolls’ on here and it makes sense for you to be wary.
I am quite willing to admit that I am wrong and that the misspelling is an intentional thing, I just don’t see it as being such a big issue as things like the Healthcare bill and such.
At the risk of repeating myself, that is all, nothing more, nothing less.

This is a story that says that the sky is falling because the ground in Alaska has gotten warmer, and recent wildfires in areas of accumulated peat have released carbon dioxide on a scale of the entire output of different sectors of United States industry.
“In the last decade, Kasischke said in an email, the biggest fire year in Alaska was 2004, when more than 56.7 million tons (51.5 teragrams or 51.5 billion kg) of carbon was emitted over 90 days, more than was released by all domestic U.S. airline flights for the whole year. That is also nearly as much carbon as was released by U.S. electricity generating plants for the same 90-day period.”
The article says that about half of the wildfires are triggered by lightning, and half by people, and that an accumulation of peat can burn very quickly, and that a simple change like a longer growing season can mean that substantially more peat is burned, should a fire occur.
To me, the important part of this article is the part I quoted directly. It tells me that natural wildfires can, and recently have, put more carbon dioxide in the air than the entire US airline industry.
While I agree with the general goal of cleaning up our messes, the real import of this article is that natural processes swamp human activity, when it comes to influencing the carbon cycle.

The Dallas Independent School District is run entirely by blacks – so financial malfeasance, educational incompetence, and institutional ignorance are the norm. The black student population is rapidly being overtaken by the illegal Mexicans, however. Anything to do with the school board, naming of schools, magnet schools, etc. becomes a battle between preferred minority groups for the majority of the spoils. Dallas doesn’t need Detroit imports; any majority black city school district easily manufactures plenty of its own “educashunal giants.”

The comparison is significantly lacking.
The point is, a school has several teachers and NONE of them noticed the typo? None? And the same people are teaching children? That has nothing to do with being human and making mistakes. Spelling is the bread and butter of a teacher, just like removing an appendix is bread and butter for a surgeon. If you fail at your most basic bread and butter business… stay away from me.

ie: Hussein, Husayn, Hussain, etc..

I too hope that I am learning from my mistakes. Time is the only thing that will tell us that.
Although I believe that you are wrong in trying to put me into the category of “Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations’ group.”, but I cannot be sure if I truly AM in that group or not, since I am not sure that I completely grasp your meaning.
I clicked on the link and I read the article and I am still confused. Call me stupid, but all I can glean from it is that you are calling me a Democrat or saying that I am against people having a choice of WHERE they send their children to school.
And, since I am NOT a Democrat and I am totally FOR people having a choice of Where they send their children to school (or home school which I came very close to doing with my own son), I feel that I am either missing something, or you are reading ME wrong.
Yes, I get the irony of the ‘reading’ and ‘writing’ of the bill. I am totally pi$$ed off about that as well and like I said before, I want Obama out as bad as the next person.
In fact, I am one of those people that feel that he is not actually ELIGIBLE to BE the president, so people slamming me about stuff like that is wrong as well.
The main point is this, I guess:
OBAMA did not DO this, some school faculty or webmaster did and people are on here using it to blast him personally. I just had the misfortune to make a decision to post my thoughts here and now I am getting slammed.
On a side note….
There have been several other responses to my posts and to some of the nastier ones I say this:
1. If you want to seriously know WHERE I am, just ask ME. I will tell you. I am not hiding anything.
2. Yes, I mean the Death Care bill. My parents are losing the only insurance that they had in which to get their MUCH needed prescriptions in ten days, so yes, I DO know what you mean.
3. If cussing at me makes you feel better, go for it. I will just ignore those posts.
4. If teaching is their bread and butter and you have “zero” tolerance for allowing them to be human too, then I am doubly glad that I am not in the Educational profession.
5. What if the teachers did not have time (gasp, oh no!!) to check the website that a possible (?) web master made for them? Does that automatically make THEM stupid? No, just human as I pointed out before.

We’ve had plenty of opportunity to determine over the past twenty years that US schools are sloppy, lazy and full of “facilitators” who are not qualified in the subjects they are SUPPOSED to be teaching,a dn it’s STILL in DECLINE – getting WORSE by the year.
Worse typos go out on a weekly basis to the public from schools … that would be PROOFED in a professional organization. Some are downright hilarious – they ran the spelling checkers all right, but trusted the computers too much and didn’t catch it was the wrong word. If your product is “excellence in education” and you don’t bother to PROOF your PUBLIC displays, then your product sucks – you don’t apply what you claim you do. School reports and announcements aren’t casual posting, it’s PUBLIC RELATIONS.
