As soon as Speaker Pelosi hands over her gavel to GOP leader John Boehner the 112th Congress of the United States will open with a reading of the US Constitution, a document often ignored by the far left extremists of the current Obama-Pelosi regime.

The 112th Congress

Republican Party – 242 members Democrat Party 193 members

They really need to hand out some copies, too.

The Washington Times
reported:

The Constitution frequently gets lip service in Congress, but House Republicans next year will make sure it gets a lot more than that – the new rules the incoming majority party proposed this week call for a full reading of the country’s founding document on the floor of the House on Jan. 6.

The goal, backers said, is to underscore the limited-government rules the Founders imposed on Congress – and to try to bring some of those principles back into everyday legislating.

“It stems from the debate that we’ve had for the last two years about things like the exercise of authority in a whole host of different areas by the EPA, we’ve had this debate in relation to the health care bill, the cap-and-trade legislation,” said Rep. Robert W. Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, who proposed the reading. “This Congress has been very aggressive in expanding the power of the federal government, and there’s been a big backlash to that.”

  1. I wonder if the reading of Articel II, Section 1, Clause 5 will ring a bell with any of these Congress critters?

    Updated details:
This is the way to treat pirates and terrorists, perhaps some of the western governments may learn something. Pussyfooting around does not work.

    RUSSIAN NAVY CAPTURES SOMALI PIRATES.
THE LINK TO THE WEBSITE IS BELOW, BUT READ THE TEXT FIRST TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SEEING.

    http://true-turtle.livejournal.com/85315.html

This videotape shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somalian pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker.

The Euro Union navy that patrols these waters would not interfere because they feared there could be casualties.

The soldiers freed their compatriots and the tanker. The Russian Navy Commandos moved the pirates back to their own pirate ship, searched the pirate ship for weapons and explosives, and then they left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates hand-cuffed to it.
The commandos sank the pirate ship along with the pirates and without any court proceedings, lawyers etc. That is, they used the anti-piracy laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates. Usually, they were hanged.

I would think from now on, Russian ships will not be targets by Somali pirates.

  3. Dateline, Washington DC: HAZMAT cleanup crews were called to the Congressional Chambers when, in response to the reading of the Constitution, liberal heads exploded.

  4. Reading the Constitution is good, and I’m glad they will be doing that. Honoring it and abiding by it in every congressional action would be even better.

The former is easy. The latter thing requires guts and principles, and remains to be seen.

Yes, I’m a skeptic. And yes, based upon recent history, I have good reason to be.

  6. C-Span……. Please air every bit of it! Please

  7. I’m glad they’re doing this. I will be more glad when they
    repeal Obamacare
    push massive tax cuts
    push massive spending cuts
send troops/wall/drones/cameras to the Mexican border
    defund PBS and the FCC

  8. This is great cuz we all know the republican party is so much more credible than the democratic party. /sarc

  9. They should read The Declaration first while they’re at it.

  10. Then what?

    .

  11. Like the Bible, the Constitution is only good in regular observance – a reading now and then might be merely superficial.

It’s up to the House Republicans to publicly point out all transgressions in existing and proposed bills and amendments, no matter WHO raises them – because the other party is in no position to do so.

  12. TPM newly elected need to band together and form an UBER right wing nasty group. Purpose, to see how much government can be repealed. NO NEW LAWS. We’re drowning in new legislation. 20,000+ laws just on firearms alone.
    REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL,REPEAL, REPEAL, powder is dry. Repeal some more.

    http://www.redstate.com/biggator5/2010/04/19/allen-west-to-nancy-pelosi-give-me-that-damn-gavel/

  14. O, HOLY NIGHT!

I can’t WAIT to hear the Constitution, the American Constitution, being read in the presence of our congress people.

  15. I hope Boehner doesn’t cry while it’s being read. Boy needs to sack up.

  16. This assumes that the left will bother to sit through it – or if they do, that they are awake. Nice gesture but it won’t reach the people it should.

  17. Enough of the crying and symbolic gestures. They better come into that chamber with the goal of rolling back the Obama agenda. They’re on probation, we’ll be watching every move.

  18. When did the republicans turn blue and the democrats turn red?

  19. The Constitution and Bill of Rights ought to be read at the beginning of every new congress. And taught in public schools. And to legal immigrants, who should be required to pass a high school level exam on both before naturalization. In English.

  20. “GOP-Controlled House Will Open Congress With Reading of US Constitution”

    NOOOOOOOO.
    It burns us.

  21. CNC said: “When did the republicans turn blue and the democrats turn red?”

Yeah, what’s with that graphic? Looks like a Leftist daydream.

  22. Reading the constitution, that’s a pretty bold move there. Many Democrats will squirm, and some will find it downright offensive.

  23. Beckwith #1: I wouldn’t count on it.

  24. CNC commented:
“When did the republicans turn blue and the democrats turn red?”

Red should have been the designated color for the lefturds all along.

  25. “When did the republicans turn blue and the democrats turn red”

Early 20th Century. The Left = Red, as in China, Soviet Union, etc. The late Tim R. switched the traditional colors as an “FU” to everyone not far left….

  26. When reading the Constitution in a session of Congress comes to seem like a bold move – and sadly, it does – that’s our signal that it’s the exact right thing to do. Congress has for too long treated the Constitution as some collection of Helpful Hints left by the founders, plastic and malleable, something from which one picks and chooses per needs of the moment, and used by too many in Congress like a drunk uses a lamppost – more for support than illumination*.

    [*With apologies to Andrew Lang]

Yeah. I’m with you on this one.

  28. It is great to hear that the new GOP controlled House will open Congress with reading of US Constitution.

  29. Beautiful…that’s what I call change!

  30. Waste of the PIGS time. REPEAL.Like said before your on probation bone maggots. I want to see cut and slash legislation. Burt earth, cept the earth being burnt is ALL government programs and largess. Defund the left and all they hold holy, GOVENMENT PROGRAMS. Your going to be called everything in the book, own it outright, whoop thier ever lovin red headed asses. I mean burn it all down like they just tried to do to America. Cept the burning down is the renewal of America and her ideals. This keep the socailist and chief off ballance as he cannot sign what does not come to his desk. Watch the lil bastard squirm.
powder is dry, fight dirty, defund the lefts pets.

  31. Yes read the Constistution. Big Grandstand play. What does it accomplish??? The LIBTARDS have RAPED US. And they want to READ. Like I said BIG FUGGING DEAL. Talk is cheap.

  32. Like the poster said, now is the hard part. Enough with the jelly on the p-nut butter sand.
How ’bout starting off with legislation that all laws Congress passes Congres is governed by. That is correct. the ObamaNocare provisions, even tho we want it repealed, is one of the first things that Congress, their staff, theWhirte House and its staff and the Cabinet and staff are subject to. They have to have a dog in the hunt. The congressers et al must stop serving up excrement sandwiches for every one else to eat.
Same with all discrimination laws, and employment laws. Congress must comply.
Sure it will be vetoed by Obama, and the Senate will before that try to kill them. but the joys of the debate will be wonderful.

  33. Umm – question on this Christmas Eve: why are there more blue dots in the graphic than red? I thought this was a picture of the 112th Congress, with 242 (red) Republicans? The colors seem backward……..more blue dots = Dem majority. Is this a picture of the 111th Congress?!

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

  34. I would prefer they open by bringing out a couple fat ladies to sing the Barcarola from Tales of Hoffman. Really let all the socialists know that its OVER…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-92JDBLKjw

  35. Not enough. Republicans have to PROVE BY DEEDS that they follow the Constitution of these United States. Enough Hypocrisy on both sides!

  36. Who knows? Pelosi just might melt into a puddle when it is read in the House.

  37. Oh my. That’s gonna make Nancy Pelosi’s sphincter tighten up like an angry python.

  38. Well it looks like the Republicans in Congress gets it, but could someone tell me WTF the people that are running the RINO party is thinking by doing the following?

The board of the American Conservative Union has approved a homosexual Republican group for a planning role in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a major annual event in Washington, D.C., that draws conservatives from across the country.

Although the ACU is officially saying the matter is still open, an informed source told CNSNews.com that the 31-member board has in fact voted to approve GOProud as a participating organization in the 2011 CPAC, and GOProud itself is saying that it has been approved as a participating organization.

Earlier this week, GOProud praised the vote of the Democratically-controlled lameduck Congress in overturning the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law that prohibited homosexuals from serving in the military. “GOProud is thankful to every Senator, regardless of party affiliation, who voted for repeal,” GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia said in a statement.

    http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/american-conservative-union-board-approv

Just WTF is wrong with these RINO’s wanting to accept these misfits at CPAC??

The higher ups in the party can go to tell and take their gay boy friends from the GOProud with them.

  39. well most of them regardless of political party have broken the Constitution more often then they have obeyed it

  40. “Oh my. That’s gonna make Nancy Pelosi’s sphincter tighten up like an angry python.”

Would that be before or after the gavel was deposited there?

If I was Boehner I would take the gavel and hand her her broom and tell her to GTFO and enjoy flying home

  41. I’m so p*ssed off about this, I meant to type,

“The higher ups in the party can go to hell and take their gay boy friends from the GOProud with them.”

About 10-12 years ago Pat Buchanan said there was a culture war in America. Sadly, he was right. Now it looks like the culture war has moved inside of the GOP.

  42. Man, I simply do not get it. Those that post here, are by and large conservatives. Real conservatives. WTF are you people thinking. On EACH and EVERY ISSUE….WE…as CONSERVATIVES need to tell the MARXIST RAPISTS that we WILL NOT ACCEPT their positions, nor the TACTICS they use to RAM SH!T down our throats.

NO ONE HERE IS TAKING THAT POSITION.

So REPUBLICANS WON CONGRESS. Take the MANDATE AND USE IT. DO NOT READ THE CONSTITUTION…………USE THE FECKING MANDATE that the American people handed to you and STAND FOR SOMETHING. OBAMA HAS SEVERELY DAMAGED THIS NATION. PELOSI AND REID have tired their damnedest to RAM SHYTE DOWN OUR THROATS in a 2 week LAME DUCK SESSION.

    IS NO ONE ANGRY??

Let me put it this way. LIBTARD MARXISTS, SOCIALIST and garden variety URBAN TAX AND SPEND…ROBE AND SANDALS LIBS……have had ZERO COMPUNCTION in RAPING YOU!!!!!

I don’t want recompense. I WANT AMERICA BACK.

  43. MAD HATTER. Thank you man. Seriously. Whether you or I am FOR or AGAINST………………………HOMOSEXUALS being allowed to serve OPENLY in the military.
WTF?? This isn’t about our NATIONAL SECURITY. It’s about LIBTARDS giving the GAY LOBBY it’s pay back. They are posing, posturing and taking posed Media pictures….relishing in this piece of LAME DUCK legislation. THEIR GOAL and THEIR AIM has MOTHERFECKING………..NOTHING…to do with our SECURITY as a NATION.
It’s POLITICAL. It is the PAT ON THE HEAD to the ACTIVE HOMOSEXUAL LOBBY and VOTE. It is the PIECE BY PIECE, PARCEL BY PARCEL nature of the LIBTARD-O-CRAT party.

It is NEVER about what is best for America. It is ALWAYS what keeps LIBTARDS in POWER.

  44. #40: It’s certainly worth a try.

    ______________

Well let’s switch it on them. Let’s take our color back! We should be true blue and they should be commie red.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the leftist media or some other subversive operatives organized that little psych color game. Doesn’t mean we have to accept it.

  46. How wonderful it will be to honor our Constitution once again now that the Pelosi mob has been kicked to the curb. How bout saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning? Perhaps one of the first things the 112th should do is make it mandatory that all school children recite this every morning. Its a great nation with much to be proud of — lets start honoring those great Americans who gave their lives to keep us free.

  47. I keep hearing how this country is more conservative than liberal but the Dems have kept their majority….methinks something stinks.

  48. The Constitution of the United States of America is one of the shortest (if not the shortest) founding document of any nation. My copy has it on twelve sides of B5 paper, about six sheets. On standard letter size paper it would probably be about ten or less pages. Reading it out loud carefully would take perhaps twenty minutes.

That is astounding: twenty mere minutes to describe the positions and procedures of the world’s dominating super-power. To any who comprehend the weight of each and every concise word, every sentence should be thrilling. To any who understand the significance of that brevity, this would be edge-of-your-seat drama.

Why? Why so short? Why so compelling? Because the Constitution does not say what the government can do; it simply states what the government CANNOT do. That is why the reading and study of this founding document should be part of every child’s education. And that is why every American office holder should begin this reading with an attitude of repentance. Indeed, national repentance would be appropriate.

One poster above suggested reading the Declaration of Independence before the Constitution. That’s an excellent idea, because the Declaration provides the spiritual, moral, logical and legal authority for the Constitution itself. They are a pair, and with the first ten Amendments (The Bill of Rights) establish a trinity that is the written foundation of the Free World.

May G-d be with this reading, May G-d work through this Congress, and May G-d bless America.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  49. My heart says change…my cynicism says chump change.

  50. Will the Democrats sleep through the reading or boycott it? They certainly have a disdain for it, despite their oaths to support and defend it.

  51. Peter Warner. I always enjoy your commentary.
    This is WAY TOO SIMPLE.
LIBTARDS believe that the CONSTITUTION is WHATEVER THEY WANT IT TO BE.
LIBTARDS believe that RULES….are for SUCKERS and REPUBLICANS.
LIBTARDS DO NOT REVERE the CONSTITUTION.

    READ ALYNSKI. It’s all there.
Merry Christmas Peter. I love your posts.

  52. LL. LIBTARDOCRATS do not care what the CONSTITUTION says NOR DO THEY CARE WHAT IT MEANS.
LIBTARDS are concerned with WINNING. With POWER. With CONTROL. With the CASH that they spread around to keep themselves ELECTED.
    JOE the PLUMBER was PRESCIENT.

  53. Anything that doesn’t start out, “Once upon a time….”, the Democrats a) won’t understand it and b) will call it RACIST, BIGOTED, HOMOPHOBIC, XENOPHOBIC, SEXIST, a violation of CHURCH AND STATE,……and they’ll immediately try to amend it.

  54. Gus I’m with you, but you have to ease up a bit, nothing is worth a stroke. By ease up I mean hold fire until they are close enough to spit in their eyes. The Elites in Washington are partyless, they play both ends toward the middle. These are the traitors that we need to throw out and fast. No more McCains or Doles, or Romneys. We need a flame thrower, someone with guts and drive, someone that will call them out and throw them out. I hate to say it but the one with the most guts and the nerve to tell it like it is is Palin, I hate to say it because she puts our men to shame, and thats never good. We have to take our media back, and our institutions of higher learning, but above all the courts. Throw the unconstitutional bed wetters out. Does anyone here know that the congress has the ability to tell the court what it can look at and what it can’t, and yet for way to long we have let the slime legislate from the bench because it served the purpose of the left. I say NO MORE.

  55. Reading the constitution to the Dems in Congress is like holding a cross in front of a wampire.

    Yep.

    “I’ll be watching you…”

    With keen interest.

  57. About the whole colors thing; I’ve always believed the recent assignment of red and blue to political maps was a transparent attempt by the lib media to remove the significance of the color red as it applies to the ultra-left philosophy of today’s Democrat party.

As for the Republicans who plan to read the Constitution, we need a list of the names of each one of the proponents of that reading. Then when they violate any provision of the Constitution, and they will, we need to come down on them like a ton of bricks for dishonesty, hypocrisy, malfeasance of office, and violating their sacred oaths.

Forget the Dems in Congress. They are a lost cause, beyond hope. We need to concentrate on electing more conservatives while at the same time holding active Republicans’ feet to the fire.

No rest, no relaxation, no assuming that our “leaders” will do the right thing. We must stay engaged and fight, because the war is far from over. Even if we someday manage to return Congress to the proper character envisioned by James Madison, we would still not be able to relax. Our constitutional republic, if kept as the founders wanted, is not the natural state of politics. The natural decay of principle, if left unchecked, leads always to despotism. Our free republic is in constant need of care and maintenance and vigilance.

  59. Expect Bawney Fwank to throw a hissy fit ’cause someone isn’t following “pawlamentiary pwocedures”. Bawney’s such a stickler that he won’t “wecognise” anyone straying from it on the committee he (“used to”) chair.

  60. For Gus @55:

Thank you most sincerely for your words of appreciation and encouragement. To G-d give the glory.

Best regards and Merry Christmas, Peter Warner.

  61. As long as they can stick together, the republicans will be able to control Congress.

Counting the RINOs, the GOP will have 47 seats in the Senate. That means they can filibuster anything they don’t like. To get a bill passed, they only need to roll 4 democrats (23 of whom are up in 2012). Thursday, McConnell and Boehner announced that there will be no more big spending bills.

In the House, the Republicans won’t need any democrats unless they want to override a veto. The guy to watch will be Paul Ryan who will run the appropriations process and bring runaway spending under control.

Rather than bundling together a big omnibus bill, Ryan will carve our the pieces that are necessary to keep the government running, and fund them on separate bills, probably with bipartisan support. Obama will not use his veto on uncontroversial appropriations.

For items Obama is abusing (e.g., EPA, FCC, DoJ, HHS/TSA, IRS, etc.) Ryan will scale back or zero funds. Congress is also prone to adding “language” designating what can and cannot be done with the funds. If the Republicans send up a drastically reduced appropriation for Agriculture and prohibit Pigford payments, Obama can accept it or do without any money at all.

This is going to be fun to watch. We should vote on the Obama tantrum of the week.

  62. I wonder how long it’s been since a floor reading of the Constitution was done at the start of a new Congress? Decades? Generations? Centuries?

  63. I think that reading The Declaration of Independence woul be more appropriate. We have more grievances against this government today, then our Founding Fathers had against King George.

  64. Kabuki theatre anyone? Just cause they’ll open the Congressional session with this, doesn’t mean they’ll follow through with it.

It’s a “I’ll believe it when I see it” situation with the House Republicans and the 47 Senators…

  65. At the beginning of this year no one thought the Republicans had a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning this election and the win was enormous. We have The House and a working majority in the Senate–and they had their 2 weeks in the Sun to try to make Americans forget the enormity of our victory. Its only going to get better with reapportionment. We now have the power of subpeona and OVERSIGHT. Rinos or not next year will be a better year because the people have been heard.

Merry Christmas — God Bless you all.

  66. I guess we should be colorblind when it comes to graphics, too…

  67. Phaaaa….if the ‘lame duck’ session is any indication…we are in for another smoke and mirror side show but put on by the republicants…

  68. Symbolic gestures are nice, however, I will remain skeptical of even the Republicans until I see them get their stuff together.

    No more RINOs.

Get Murkowski, Snow, Brown, et al and give them movie money whenever congress is in session.

In this political climate I will be satisfied with nothing less then the accomplishment of meaningful goals and/or totally shutting down Obama.

  69. I second the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Along with all of the amendments. If the damnocrats want to call it a waste of time tell them they should have wasted more time in the last Congress. I do agree that reading it does nothing but set the tone and actions following the reading will be required to satisfy their bosses, We the People. Get it RIGHT or we will replace them in 2012.

On some side notes, not only can Mr. Hoft not tell red from blue but he apparently can’t add either. 243 + 193 = 435 not 433.

  70. Lets hope Mr. Hoft’s story is more accurate than his graphic which appears to have 254 blue dots, 178 red dots, and 2 white dots. Last year’s house?

  71. In the graphic at the top showing the blue and red dots representing the House, the majority is blue. I thought red represented the GOP.
