You didn’t see much of this during the Bush years…
A mysterious missile was launched off of the California coast yesterday. The Pentagon said they can’t explain it.

Most likely, this missile came from a sub. Navy spokespersons don’t know where the missile came from? No surprise. The surface Navy often has no idea what the submariners are up to.

Every single submarine in the world has a unique propeller signature discernable by sonar. The United States subs are barely detectable, but they still are… we know the unique signatures of every sub out there, and can track them across entire oceans; we need to know where they are at all times. We already know who did it, and the type of missle fired because of its trajectory, speed of launch, and range of fire. We will recover it if someone doesn’t recover it first… since we know it didn’t land on soil.
My educated guess is it was the result of one of three possibilities:
- An accidental launch as a result of a drill that went wrong
- An intentional message from a rogue country
- An act by a group of rogue soldiers acting on their own.
My SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) is North Korea, although we do have copious forces in and about the San Nicholas basin…
This may get interesting… does it coincide with the announcement of Obama’s maybe cutting his trip short?

It’s not a SLBM. The Navy would not conduct a missile launch off the coast of LA, that’s just ridiculous. The airspace around LA is a swiss cheese of flight-restrictions. If it wanted to launch, it would do it hundreds of miles off-shore, where there is clear airspace for good telemetry, with radar tracking ships nearby.
The second reason it’s not a SLBM is because the contrail is rising too slowly to be a missile. It is most likely a commercial jet rising to cruising altitude, and the angle of the camera, and the vantage point of a helicopter make it appear as a missile. The contrail would start at a fairly high altitude, giving the impression of a launch from the sea.
However, that contrail has interesting structure, so it might be a military aircraft of a classified nature. Purely speculation. But it’s not a SLBM.

As busy as LAX is and has been for quite some time, if it were jet contrails, it would have been seen before. As this appears to be a unique event (so far anyway), I’d tend to rule out the more mundane explanations.

Swerved into another area of my expertise.
USN electronic warefare operator and flew outside of MANY closure areas that U.S.S.R. called off of it’s own coast. Lots of international treaties on this kind of activity.
Mainly safety for civilian air and marine traffic.
We tracked soviet subs from the time they left Russia till they got onsite on America’s coastline. Two sub’s at all times for decades.
Tracked them via electronic warfare and fingerprint radar. (all radars have a unique RF and PRF)
That narrows it down to an enterprising civillian, or a hostile nation sending a very obvious gesture. While I would like to beleive it is astronaut farmer I beleive the latter is true. EMP burst 150 miles over the north American contenent would be a lights out nightmare scenario. I have addressed this issue in prior posts and have plans for the following scenario. powder is dry means BE PREPARED.

1. Not a con trail: LA residents would be used to this by now.
2. Not a rogue nation demonstrating strength: the Navy and Coast Guard would be swarming all over the SoCal coast by now quite visibly.
3. Not an accidental launch: too many safeguards to lean on the wrong button, accidents come more in the deadly variety.
4. Not a rogue crew: whoever thinks this has been watching too many movies lately.
5. Not a skunk works project that’s dropped it’s guard: it’s science fiction to imagine an undersea Area 51.

That it is a controlled exercise launched within U.S. Territorial waters (therefore not an immediate threat to any nation), adjacent to a metropolis so that the media will report it, that it might be a message aimed at an appropriate adversary (say, North Korea…), a sub-channel rattling of the sabers?: Possible to probable.
If this is correct, why not from Hawaii? Less exposure and a not a direct cardinal orientation toward the East.
7. Or this might be a demonstration of strength to provide a subtextual foil to Obama’s diplomatic trip? If so, it’s a strange mix of messages. In one moment, the USA is not exceptional, we have removed ourself from the guardian/policeman position of the world, that we are one among equals; and in the other moment, we reveal the handle of a pistol in our waist band with a casual lift of our shirt.
For the level of sophistication within the current administration: possible to probable. This sounds like the Chicago Way in geo-military terms.

Reread the con trail article, almost persuaded… but, the analysis centers on still fotos, the helicopter video is different, especially the tail flame that is clearly evident.

This is NOT a contrail.Notice the tail of fire coming out at the tip.Also the “smoke” is in a spiral form. Contrails are often linear streaks but not dense spirals of smoke. It was a missile.

1. a foreign power
2.Mexican gangsters

First of all, anyone saying this is an illusion or an airplane is an idiot. Not even a fighter jet climbs at that speed and angle of climb. It was CLEARLY a missile, and it wasn’t a small one. The only question now is whose missile was it, and why was it launched. Say what you will about the military, but they DON’T accidentally launch missiles … it’s just not going to happen. So if they don’t take credit for it, either they didn’t launch it, or they don’t want to say they launched it. Regardless, I’m guessing the rest of this story will come out in due time. If it turns out that another country slipped through our sub defenses and launched it as a show of force, there will be some heads rolling …
That could have been the end of LA or any other American city …

I refuse to believe the jet contrail lie. While contrails are a everyday occurrence, I have never seen one with a fireball at its source, least way not on a commercial jet. So we have what appears to be a unknown rocket miles from the second largest city in America and there is no problem. Yep the system is working. I feel soooo much better now.
