Barbara Simpson reported this on a rally for Harry Reid last night on her KSFO talk show in San Francisco.  Barbara had this report from a Harry Reid rally with VP Joe Biden this week at the University of Reno.   When the audience was asked to stand for the National Anthem a native American-Indian came out and spoke in her native language and then sang an Indian song in lieu of the National Anthem.

That’s strange… No media outlets reported on this?

Pretty song. Wrong country.

  1. Can we please stop using Native American-Indians and/or Native Americans? That “Native” gives them a false attribution of somehow having a superior moral/social/cultural position to the rest of native born Americans of European/other descent- conquerors in some eyes. They are Tribal-Americans at best distinction and Americans whether they like it or not.

  2. That is the Shoshone Flag song. “tammee” means “our”

  3. Harry campaigning for the dead Indian votes. Remember Daschle plowed the same grounds.

  4. Harry’s not out of touch with America.

  5. Is Harry running for a seat on the tribal council?

  6. “The only good Indians I ever saw were dead. Cause they can vote for me.”
    Harry Reid – 2010

  7. Harry is just trying to create another division between Americans. A major tactic in warfare is to divide and conquer. A tactic this President and his Socialist puppets are well versed in. Blacks against whites, Hispanics against whites, labor against business, the old against the young, the rich against the poor, and a long laundry list of others. Socialist are but a small minority here in America, but if we continue fall into their trap we lose the advantage of the majority.

  8. Native American is a legal term of art that refers to members of Indian tribes or communities. It is our term for them; not theirs. It acknowledges their unique historical and legal status, as well as the unique status of tribes as bodies politic that predate the Constitution and do not derive their powers or owe their existence to it. It certainly does not “give[] them a false attribution of somehow having a superior moral/social/cultural position to the rest of native born Americans of European/other descent- conquerors,” whatever that means. In any event, most Indians prefer the appellation “American Indian.”

As a whole, Native Americans and tribes are proud to be part of the US and are exceedingly patriotic. American Indians serve in our armed forces in a far greater percentage than any other group within the US. They have allied with us since before the formation of our country and were instrumental in every war we fought, from the American Revolution thru WWII (the “Code Talkers”). This is their country, too.

If the United States is the wrong country for American Indians to sing their songs, what is the right one, pray tell?

Does anyone really have a problem with American Indians singing American Indian songs, or singing at a rally, if invited to do so?
Isn’t the real issue with Harry Reid having an Indian song sung in lieu of the National Anthem, as opposed to Indians singing an Indian song at a rally?

Be careful who you tar. Harry Reid deserves to be tarred; Indians don’t.

  9. Typical Lib-Lefty viewpoint that “My feeeelings are more important than my agreement with you to perform a particular song”.

Some dim-dum-bimbo did that in Denver in 2008, singing “Lift Evr’y Voice and Sing” (the so-called Black National Anthem) instead of the Star-Spangled Banner.

    http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=94919&catid=339

It’s just sooooo important for these idjits to “express themselves” rather than to perform the functions they were hired for. Then, when they DON’T get hired the next time, what’s going to be their excuse? We’re racists, of course! Bigoted. Mean-spirited. They’ve “held up the mirror to the eeeevill white majority” and now they =-sob, sob-= are being punished for the whole truth-to-power thing. Blah-blah. (Question: when did mere entertainers decide it was their job to teach us knuckle-dragging cretins how to be moral, fair, and just?)

  10. Thanks Paul. I am a Native American too. I was born in Maryland.
If Indians allow themselves to be used by Harry, then tar them too.

  11. Of course no media outlet reported on this. They’re all JournOLists and they hate America, the military, God, guns, American oil, women, Jews, Christians, Catholics, freedom, Democracy, Capitalism and most of all the unborn.

  12. The Dixieland Funeral march would have been more appropriate…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bdohpu1ZRA

  13. Bully for her. I guess it would have been too difficult for her to sing the National Anthem first and then sing her “native” song. Isn’t she supposed to be an American first, or is she just another hypenated American.

  14. Sorry, that should read – hyphenated.

  15. I’m from Oklahoma and love my Red American brothers. Rich history, just sing the Star spangled bannor first then you can proceed as you wish. This is just Harry Reid pandering and pissing off more votes than he pandered to.
    powder is dry.

  16. Does Harry play a different song when he visits the Latino community, or the Black community, or Asian community……?

Does the SEIU have it’s own song? (The Russian National Anthem?)
    .

  17. Uh, Paul, I’ll type slower next time if you need me to, in order to understand my point. First, I think most “Indians” prefer their tribal names over such a false designation likewise coined by colonists, just as “Native American” is, also. Second, if you don’t think there are many who take a superior, cultural claim based off of being “Native,” then you are clueless. Third, I was not denigrating Tribal Americans about being called “Native American Indians,” I was in fact calling to task the use of such a term by those who coined it. Lastly, I’m part Tribal American myself.

  18. Harry Reid is toast. Anti- Christian, Senator Chuck Shcumer, wants Reid’s leadership job.

    http://www.bluecollarphilosophy.com/2010/10/anti-christian-senator-schumer-wants.html

Get ready for the Liberal media to turn their wrath on us after their Democrats get creamed on Tuesday.

  19. Weirdness. Do you suppose Harry Reid and/or the organizers know she was going to do this?

Did the people remain standing? What an awkward moment that would have been.

I probably would have remained standing, thinking wth, but expecting that she would sing the U.S. anthem afterwards. And, you know, not wanting to sit down in the middle of hers, as that would seem disrespectful.

    Etc.

Was this planned? Or just something she decided to do herself?

  20. Paul was just telling you what his teachers indoctrinated him with.
    Native Americans are WONDERFUL.

  21. clarityrising, there are people everywhere who claim superiority – culturally, morally, intellectually and otherwise – on the thinnest of premises. However, you paint with too broad a brush when singling out Indians, as you did in your initial comment. And, you read far too much into the term “Native American” (as opposed to “native American,” which describes me and everyone else born in this country).

Ultimately, the point we are parsing may be inconsequential. I agree that this was outrageous, but the fault lies solely with Harry Reid, who orchestrated the fiasco and hoped to benefit from it. I was concerned that the post could be read to pin blame on Indians. That would be unfair. As I indicated, most Indians I know are proudly patriotic Americans. Indians and tribes are part of the USA, too.

Maybe the singer went off script. Maybe she didn’t. I don’t know. But, I am not going to tar all Indians for what she did or didn’t do. What I do know is that Harry was pandering and it backfired. He had everyone stand for the National Anthem and what they got was something else. It was Reid’s event. He was in charge of it and he is ultimately responsible for it. If this happened at a Republican rally, it would have been reported, and there would have been no blame placed on the singer; the blame would have put squarely on the shoulders of the candidate or organization that sponsored the rally organizer and the candidate. Look no farther than what happens when there is a minor skirmish (or “offensive” signs) during a Republican event. Blame is never placed on the individuals directly involved in the fracas, but on the candidate or the conservative movement as a whole.

This story should be about Harry Reid and Harry Reid alone – not what some young singer may have done or not done. And, it should not be used to take shots at Indians. The whole “wrong country” shot in the original post was gratuitous and misdirected, in my opinion. It gives Reid an out that he does not deserve.

I suspect we agree on the issue more than not. I aplogize that my post was not a clear as it should have been.

  22. I spend a lot of time in Wyoming and meet and talk to Indians, or Native Americans, if you will. I lived for years in South Dakota and had more than a few Indian friends there. They usually referred to themselves as Indians. P.C. is New York City and D.C. talking to themselves. You don’t find a lot of P.C. on the Wind River or Crow Reservations.

  23. Paul, their patriotism is not in question and it should be common knowledge that these people have sacrificed a lot in America’s wars against fascism. I only say code talkers.

However, the term “Native Americans” is 100% wrong. It may be a legal term of art, but those are generally worthless and wrong. Frankly, I take a piss on those legal terms of art. It’s political correct BS based on feeling warm and fuzzy about something rather than facts.

They are not “Native”. They are homo sapiens. The homo sapiens doesn’t originate from America. What we know today as American Indians is the result of several immigration waves from at least three directions. From Asia vial Alaska. From the South Pacific. And from Europe (which is backed up by actual forensic evidence, aka archeological dig sites.)

Also, there’s this logic fallacy of putting all American Indians into one box. This is wrong. The Navajo and the Cheyenne, the Sioux and the Apaches, they were like the European nations. They were different nations. Or are you telling me that all Europeans are the same? Most likely yes, because people tend to say that everything Asian’s the same as well.

Why not sing American Indian songs at a rally? I see no issue with this. But in lieu with the anthem of the US? No. For once it brings out the problem, which American Indian “anthem” are we going to sing anyway? Since there were many different tribes, and eventually different nations that can pose a problem. And secondly, that large country over there, south of Canda, north of Mexico, is called United States of America.

In my book everyone born in this country is a native American. He or she was born there, thus making him or her native. There is no Navajo Republic or anything else similar. The territory is part of the US. They are citizens of the US. Period.

From my personal experience I have yet to see a “Native American” who calls himself “Native American.” They call themselves Americans. They also call themselves Cheyenne or Navajo or whatever else.

“Native American” is the same PC BS as “African American” or “Japanese American” or “Chinese American”.

Interestingly, nobody ever makes a distinction on that level about Irish Americans, German Americans, etc (I know, the distinction pops up every now and then, but it’s not done on a large level.) Oh wait… they’re white. White Americans. Here we go. Hmmm… isn’t that racist? Oh wait. Only white people can be racist, sorry!

In my book, if you’re born in the US or a nationalized immigrant, you’re American. American American. Red white and blue American. Period. Your skin color, your ethnic background, your “race”, those are 100% irrelevant. I judge you by who you are, and not by who your father was or what color your skin has.

And you don’t want to go into a discussion about the history of those tribes. Honestly, you don’t. They were not the proud, noble and spiritual “savages”, they were human beings. They waged war, butchered and raped. Against each other and against the settlers. Fact.

what is needed for Reid (not to mention about 75% of all the others) :D

  25. Me and my fabulous cheekbones have decided that ‘Dances With Weasels’ (Harry) has got to go!

What Harry Reid and most of those Aztlan (Ass Land?) idiots don’t seem to realize is that a large number of Americans have some native ancestry themselves. The ‘Spanish-Native’ (Mexicans) are labeling the ‘European-Native’ (Americans) as “European Invaders”.

Spain is still part of Europe, isn’t it?

This is pure pandering by Harry Reid. While her song would have been acceptable for a local election, a national election should always use a national song.

This was a ‘bait-and-switch’! They announced that the song would be the national anthem, but they played only a local anthem. Anyone who sits down is made to feel like an intolerant ass.
    .

  26. Andreas:

I agree 100%. But let’s pin this on Harry Reid, and Harry Reid alone. That is all I am saying.

This has nothing to do with Indians. No “this is the wrong country” for Indians to be singing Indian songs in. No “Native Americans think they are morally superior” crap. Those are misdirected diversions. Let’s keep the focus on Reid, his incessant pandering and his inability to do anything right. He should not be given any wiggle room here, or any chance to deflect criticism by blaming it on some young girl he hired.

Reid either does not know what the National Anthem is, or he is so inept that he can’t pull of the mundane task of getting someone to properly sing it before a rally (a task numerous high schools, colleges, amateur and professional sports teams are able to pull off tens of thousands of times a year, w/o incident). Reid needs to be retired. If we apply the pressure as well as they do, this race won’t even be close.

    American Indian versus Native American

not taking sides, don’t know how accurate the info is, but here you go anyways, maybe it will help, maybe not.. imho, anyone who was legally born in AMERICA is an AMERICAN, as for patriotic, well, that’s a whole nother kettle of fish so to speak..

as far as what Indians did centuries ago.. yes, their history has been just as distorted as was slavery & the rest of American history has been from day one until this very day.. *sigh*

    ==

  28. Is anyone sure this was not some song to the gods to help Harry with his manhood issues?
Just another group of people being used by Harry and his Socialist thugs. Our Indian friends are being played right along with the rest of America.

  29. Substantially “tribal American” in heritage here Paul — if other Indians want to be used as vote pandering cattle by Harry Reid and no one else in the tribe speaks out against it, then they deserve to be tarred. Indians are smart enough to know the national anthem Paul, and should be smart enough to know when they are being used for cheap electioneering tricks like this.

Shame on the ones who allow themselves to be used like dogs by crooked, condescending politicians like this!

  30. Harry Reid outsourcing the National Anthem to Indians. Sounds catchy.

  31. You read a lot into things Paul. No one questioned the patriotism of Tribal Americans or laid blame on them regarding Hoary Reid’s stunt. You go, Andrea! You have far more dedication in typing long posts than I do. Good stuff.

  33. ‘American Indian’ is still a generalization. More correct would be to directly address the tribe. For instance, there are technically no “Eskimo’s” in Alaska. The native peoples there are addressed by the names; Aleutian, Athapaskan, etc., etc…..

East of the Mississippi, there were 500 separate nations of ‘native’ peoples living in the American territory, before the United States existed.

Today there is only one tribe. I’d call that ‘progress’.

No person should have to make the ‘Official US Government List Of Friends’ before they are respected as individuals. Rights are not handed out according to a list of government recognized, and government-hosted, entities, nor does anyone require government involvement of any kind to exercise their individual liberty.
    .

  34. The anti-Christian Senator, Chuck Schumer, is waiting in the wings to take Harry Reid’s leadership job.

    http://www.bluecollarphilosophy.com/2010/10/anti-christian-senator-schumer-wants.html

So apparently not all Democrats will be sad to see Reid defeated.

  35. Do left-handed people have a different national anthem?

Are their rights, and is their identity, based upon government recognition of left-handed people? (Is ‘left-handed’ a protected group?)
    .

  36. My first thought was oh no what is the slime ball Harry up to. Although I could not understand her she sure has a pretty voice.

  37. Chuckie needs to go too! He is a scum bag!

  38. Correction: It’s the University of Nevada, Reno, not the University of Reno. It is also referred to as the University of Nevada (or also just “Nevada”), because it is the original campus of the state university. The University of Nevada was founded in 1874, but it didn’t relocate to Reno until the 1880s. By contrast, UNLV started out as the “southern division” of the University of Nevada in 1957; it didn’t become a university of its own until 1968.

  39. paul #10 i have a problem with this. if your suppose to sing the national anthem it better be “The Star-Spangled Banner unless ole harry is running for office in another country. the fact that harry could this with the mood that exists in this country at the present time shows that these politicans aren’t listening to the american people at all.

  40. p.s. i was born in this country, that makes me a native american.

  41. Harry Reid is a communist. What more do you need to know about him? He is a traitor. A criminal.

  42. You are so taost tomorrow Harriet!

  43. You are so toast tomorrow Harriet!

  44. I find it incredible that people cannot let this go as a miscommunication. It just so happens that no one is perfect but of course some people have to find some sort of hidden motive behind it. Kristina Thomas even corrected the woman who introduced her and elaborated on the song she was going to be singing was not the National Anthem, but rather a flag song. Really time to get off your high horses.
