On of the announcers today at the Restoring Sanity Rally in Washington DC said 150,000 people had turned out.
That might have been a stretch.

Here’s a photo comparison of the rallies.
Via KeyPro:

At least 500,000 showed up at Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally.

  1. The lying and distortion of the left is astounding. They literally believe if they say something, then everyone will just accept it as fact.

The sad thing is liberals are so brain-dead that they do accept anything told to them by the ‘media’ as fact.

Their is absolutely no comparison between the Beck & Stewart rallies…Beck’s was much larger – and he didn’t need to book large musical acts (Crow, Ozzy, etc) to get people there. I gaurantee the majority of these people were there for the free concert.

  2. 149,000 of them were stoned out of their minds, I’m sure.

It’s not much of a trick to get people to turn out for free sandwiches, smokes, comedy shows, concerts, or great big grab bags full of free money. Then again, without these things, there wouldn’t be any Democrats!

  3. Thanks for putting them up side-by-side.

  4. And we, who attended 8/28 paid our own way and went because it was something that we believed in. We came back better than when we went.

Any pix of what the grounds looked like after the Comedy Hour???

  5. ADVERTISEMENT

  6. 150k douchebags.

let’s see the garbage pictures they left behind…

    Teasday…

  7. Really surprised that a bunch of Obamacrat candidates didn’t attend and sing (the blues). Guess the head Obamacrat wasn’t also there, but I guess that the prez is licking his wounds from his dismal failure on Jon Stewart. They were laughing AT hin on Comedy Central, not WITH him.

  8. It’s gotta be small compared to the 9/12 rallies too!

  9. This ” performance ” reminds me of an old fashioned minstrel show where white men dressed in black face to entertain crowds with sterotypical mockery of minorities. …Only in this case they are mocking patriotic conservative Glen Beck types. Our country is facing very serious issues and all theft has to offer is bigoted ridicule. Is this Colbert and Stewart or is it 1950s Vernon & Ryan ? … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfiNT6AKG0s

  10. People who get paid to estimate crowds say 87K for Beck.

  11. We should be ashamed of ourselves for letting leftards dupe us into comparing Comedy Central’s outdoor entertainment show to Beck’s political and/or American patriotism rally.

Comedy Central organized and advertised the hell out of a comedy and music concert. To use the taxpayer funded space, the event organizers simply had to include the name “America” in the name of the concert. Admission to the concert was free of charge because there is no rental charge for the taxpayer funded venue, as opposed to concerts held in football stadiums and sports arenas, etc., and the event’s minor celebrity and/or has-been entertainers were more than willing to work for little or nothing more than the free and much-wanted publicity.

Comedy Central organized a well advertised, admission-free and, for many attendants, free transportation included, comedy concert, not a political rally. That Comedy Central strictly prohibited filming at the event only further confirms that this was a comedy show held at a taxpayer-funded venue and not a political rally. The – ahem – entertainment at today’s comedy concert is the property of Comedy Central, hence Comedy Central’s right to prohibit filming. Comedy Central owns the distribution rights to any and all portions of today’s comedy concert. Filming and distribution of recordings of the speeches given and songs sung at political rallies are not prohibited; they are not the property of any entity(s).

  12. Beck’s crowd came due to their conservative beliefs.

Stewarts crowd came due to, forced by their networks, paid to go, oprah paid some of their airfare, singers they adore, bands the adore, other enticements.

yet with all of the enticements at stewart’s fake rally, more people came to Beck’s rally.

    nuff said!

  13. I never even knew that Glen Beck had a rally, but I’m glad to hear that the same isn’t the case for fans of Glen Beck.

John Stewart and Stephen Colbert have now “activated the youth”, oh sht!

  14. Thanks!

  15. Looks like we had 10X as many for Beck’s rally!

    Thanks for posting!!

  16. I don’t know WHY you won’t use the figures that C-Span used…? They showed the Rally..Do you think C-Span is ‘ biased ‘?
And why doesn’t your pic Show the Stage? Is this a pic of something ELSE?

And 90% of the sources said Beck’s Rally was around 87K. Use a number CLOSE to that or you just look RIDICULOUS… yu betcha!

  17. Cavuto had Trumka of AFL giving a speech. It was like the unhinged harangues of a Kremlin or Castro speech.I am glad he showed it. The GOP should put it as an ad.
If the Unions are spending $1 billion dollars on the Donks being elected then why are their pension and health plans unfunded or underfunded. Before a dime of tax dough goes to the unions there needs to be an audit back to grandparents to see where the money has gone. if any has gone that is.
If no money is disappeared, then why not take the $1 billion and put it inthe funds for pensions and/or health. Grow up unions, you are not our family. You are a boat anchor to the economy so fund yourself.

  18. So, when are you going to get around to paying me for photoshopping that .jpg for you, Jim? I thought we had a deal.

    Desperate Trolls are pathetic.

  21. This isn’t even the Best picture of the Stewart Rally.. not even a Full view of the whole crowd.
    http://twitpic.com/32by5x

Why doesn’t it look like YOUR Example..?

Oh.. Auntie…?? Beck did not have a political or American Rally. He had a religious Sermon.

  22. it’s amazing to see that liberals are even defending Stewart’s rally that wasn’t supposed to be a political event.

the real even will be on Tuesday, November 2nd, when the country turn the country away from socialism.

  23. Too bad the photo you showed of the Rally to Restore Sanity does not actually look like the crowd at the height of the Rally to Restore Sanity.

http://huffingtonpost.com has a much better and far more accurate photo that you should use for your comparison. As someone who was actually there, I can tell you that your photo is not even close to showing all the people who came. They were spread for 12 blocks, with people chanting “louder, louder” because they were too far away from the Jumbotrons to hear anything. More official crowd estimates for this rally were 200k to 250k, where as official crowd estimates for Beck’s lame hate-filled event were 87k.

  24. Are you union morons, black-panter racists, clueless hippies getting angry because we see you for what you are (lazy, dumb, desperate)?

  25. Here is a REAL pic of the rally, which I was at:

    http://twitpic.com/32by5x

  26. wow threatened much by thousands of people getting along, promoting harmony, fun and working together?

the ‘us vs. them’ attitude is exhausting, you cant hate 50 percent of the people in your own country! cmon enough already!

  27. Exactly Tom…quit hating.

  28. it amazes me how so many of you insist you love America, but you have half the people in it!

today was liberating, enjoyable and fun, things clearly many of you know nothing about… sad stuff, go out have some fun and smile at someone, or as jesus insisted, love they neighbor as thyself!

this is not complicated people! jesus didnt say, love they neighbor as theyself, IF he agrees with me! LOL!

  29. This was the Rally to Restore Sanity?

seems like an overwhelmingly white crowd from the pictures. Virtually no diversity from what I can see.

The Hitler mustaches painted on Republican personalities/politicians, etc. ?? Nice “inclusive” touch there. Where’s the love? Where’s the “tolerance” ?

And how can anyone justify the inclusion of Yusuf Islam into the featured lineup given his support of the fundamentalist Islamic fatwa against author Salman Rushdie?

Is THIS the change we’ve been waiting for?

  30. that should have been of course, you insist you LOVE America and yet, you hate half the people IN America!

take one second and ponder the craziness of only liking people who agree with you all the time … we dont live in a cable tv studio whos business is to push an agenda, we live in communities with unique individuals all sharing a common cause, trying their best to be happy …

Did you spout that platitude on various Left-wing blogs after the Beck rally? Somehow I doubt that you did.

the ‘us vs. them’ attitude is exhausting, you cant hate 50 percent of the people in your own country! cmon enough already!

Sure thing, Tom. Your myopic attitude and use of projection is the real problem. Considering the vitriol spewed by the Left at the Right on a regular basis, especially during or after recent DC rallies held for Republican causes, your outrage is laughably idiotic. Perhaps you would have a modicum of credibility if you at least acknowledged the regular and ongoing hatred and anger directed at the Right by the same people at today’s rally. Or are you denying the attacks on conservatives and the Tea Party that take place all the time?

BTW, your moronic “the ‘us vs. them’ attitude is exhausting, you cant hate 50 percent of the people in your own country! cmon enough already!” is directed at the wrong side of the policial aisle. You’re an intellectually dishonest clown of epic proportions.

  33. This guys suggests, by his motorized scooter, that there were 300,000 – equal to Beck rally.

    LOL

  34. Tom…actually, after being told that I need to be tolerant of everything, all the while seeing what political-correctness-run-amock and hand-holding gets us (China getting bolder, Russia getting bolder, radical muslims getting bolder)…I am proud to say that I am no longer tolerant.

Sorry to pop your Prozac-laden delusional bubble that all we need to do is have a ‘beer summit’ and everything will be fine. Reality does not work that way.

I don’t hate 50 percent of the country…I just with they would wake up.

that should have been of course, you insist you LOVE America and yet, you hate half the people IN America!

Once again, enough of the projection and these idiotic “can’t we all just get along” platitudes. Let’s see what types of loving attitudes and love of country we see displayed by Leftists like you after Tuesday. In the aftermath of the electoral destruction that will occur on Tuesday, you know that the vast majority of liberals are going to be talking about how stupid, racist, and hateful the voters are who voted to put Republicans back in power — even though a good number of those same voters voted for Obama and the Democrats during the past few election cycles. Believe me, I don’t expect you to come in here with your message of unity then.

  36. Thanks for adding the graphic at the bottom of the photos. It shows how large Beck’s venue was compared to Stewart’s. It took a lot more people to fill Beck’s venue, but the place is clearly packed. It took a lot fewer people to fill Stewart’s venue, but this place is barely half-filled. My point? Stewart chose a smaller venue, thinking he could fill it and look as impressive as Beck. Fail. Another example of how handouts don’t work. Even celebrity handouts.

  37. the thing that seems to be too often the case is that so many ‘conservatives’ are only happy when they’re fighting an enemy, angry, or attempting to demonize people who are different–

cant all people just co exist as different but equal human beings ?

as Stewart said..the truth is we work together every damn day to get things done its these lame politicians and cable news celebs that distort the goodness in society

  38. Agree…it’s the lame celebs like Stewart and Colbert, Oprah, CNN, MSNBC, Maddow, Obama, and his minions that distory reality.

See, Tom…we are now getting along…it’s wonderful. I feel like putting on a Cat Stevens CD, lighting up a joint and holding hands with you.

  39. Tom,

What is it with you leftists and sweeping generalizations?

  40. Holy misleading picture, Batman!

    Let me count the ways.

    1) The oval showing the area pictured in the Beck photo is clearly way too large, as the actual photo starts at the World War II memorial.

    2) On the other hand, the oval showing the area pictured for the Stewart rally is clearly too small.

    3) No mention of the difference in perspective. The distance from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial is much shorter than the distance between the monument and the Capitol. In other words, at the Beck rally, you are essentially looking straight down at the rally area. For the Stewart rally, you are looking over a much larger length of land. Obviously, an equal sized crowd will look smaller when you increase the distance.

    4) Ignoring those three blatantly misleading aspects of those pictures, your purpose in comparing the two photos is apparently to show that the “length” of the crowd at the Stewart rally is much shorter than the Beck rally. Of course, you do realize that there is a giant reflecting pool taking up a whole lot of the space, right?

  41. simply amazin@ you guys justify your need to hate, and yet im sure youre all christians, right?

what part of jesus ‘love they neighbor as theyself’ dont u like? or do you only live by the stuff thats convenient? hmmmm…

  42. Coexisting may be living side-by-side, but, in practice, it is hardly working together. Look around the world where people
supposedly “coexist.” At least one group is always plotting and planning the other’s demise as soon as they have the majority. It’s not my idea of a good and peaceful life. America’s melting pot represented that until the left decided to break us all up into our ethnic/religious/racial parts. Divide and conquer.

  43. by the way those two pics are so different its like theyre not even of the same place, exactly as JC said …

as the 7 year old girl’s sign today said “I want my tea party back!” cmon thats pretty funny

  44. Tom,

I’m saving my laughs for Tuesday.

  45. Exactly the point Tom and JC! The Stewart picture was taken purposefully in-close to fill the screen with people…if you were to take a picture at the same angle and height as the Beck photo, you would see the dramatically smaller crowd for Stewart.

  46. the Bible doesnt exist so some people can feel superior to others, its there to command people to love each other, not judge (judge not lest ye be judged anyone??) and do good works …

it amazes me how the most vocal Christians ignore Jesus’ most basic messages and prefer instead to use it to attack others …

these lines arent up for debate, they’re crystal clear, so what you gonna do?

  47. Tom, better tell your Messiah, Obama to follow your advice…he and his large wife seem to feel superior to us ‘common folk’.

  48. dems, im sure youre a decent person, but who’s disagreeing?

Stewart himself said, the crowd was somewhere between 1500 and 5 billion.. LOL! and Im sure he’s right! everything in life isnt an endless contest, us vs. them, etc

smile and cheer up, wine and chocolate help too… adios all!

  49. Tom,

Look at all those leftists reaching out to coexist with the “other side”.

    http://msnbcmedia2.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/101030-sanity-hmed-10a.grid-6×2.jpg

  50. I am quite happy Tom…working hard and contributing to society makes me feel that way. Too bad, the parasitic left can’t feel so fulfilled.

  51. Wow, “demscansuckit” way to completely ignore the facts. The Beck picture is of an area essentially directly beneath the photographer, and covers a shorter distance.

In other words, if you could accuse one of them of being “taken purposefully in-close to fill the screen with people,” it would be the picture of the Beck rally.

The distance from the Lincoln Memorial to the World War II memorial (that circle thing, if you aren’t knowledgeable enough about our nation’s capital to know) is about the distance from Stewart’s stage to the back of the main part of the crowd, yet the pictures are framed in a way to make it look as if distance spanned in Beck’s rally is much greater.

But keep on ignoring basic common sense, optics, geography, etc, to make your crowd look bigger. That’s all that matters to you.

the thing that seems to be too often the case is that so many ‘conservatives’ are only happy when they’re fighting an enemy, angry, or attempting to demonize people who are different–

Enough with your freakin’ drivel. We can agree to disagree about the degree to which each side is guilty of demonizing the other but both sides castigate the other side so stop with this idiotic sanctimonious horsesh*t about how it’s only conservatives that do it. Do you EVER read what’s written about various prominent conservatives? Take a look at the crap thrown by the Left at Palin or O’Donnell or Limbaugh or Beck or Hannity, etc., every single day and tell me it doesn’t happen on the Left. It happens right on Stewart’s show every single night.

cant all people just co exist as different but equal human beings ?

as Stewart said..the truth is we work together every damn day to get things done its these lame politicians and cable news celebs that distort the goodness in society

Is it? Or is it people like Stewart who mouths these words while on his show skewering conservatives significantly more than he does liberals, even those conservatives who are trying to do something positive for society? Stewart “distorts the goodness in society” on a regular basis, yet you post his comments here like they are so profound. How does it feel to be such a sycophant for a moderately talented man you only know from TV? Tell me.

  53. dems, one last thing… generalize much? you really want to pack millions of ‘lefties’ into ONE little box, dont u? thats so ridiculous! people are complicated, unique and have millions of varied opinions….THAT is the reality…and we are all way more alike than different

LOL … just amazes me how insecure political discourse has become … wine and chocolate time, this has been super fun :) i wanna come back here and party with some of you it would be something to remember!

Second, do you even realize that continuously calling all conservatives haters is exactly what you’re claiming to be against with your “can’t we all co-exist” BS you’re spouting? 61. Bill what do you think helps alleviate suffering? maybe having some fun, and laughing a bit? accepting others and our differences? listening to some music?

Are ya? Well, I’m astonished by your apparent cluelessness and ignorance. The vast majority of what is posted on this site or other prominent conservative sites is pretty tame compared to the stuff I see posted by liberals on Left-wing blogs. But I’m sure already know that, yet like a hypocrite you simply choose to ignore it and pretend that it’s only conservatives that engage in blame, resentment, and name calling. Conservatives do sometimes engage in those activities but it still pales in comparison to the comments I see on Left-wing blogs.

Sure, Obama & Co. are still out there blaming Bush for their current failures and liberals still regularly blame Bush for their own plight, yet you have the audacity to write about how conservatives “think other people are to blame for our own unhappiness”? Puh-lease. I’m far from unhappy and I’m sure my life is much more fulfilling than yours based on the child-like stupidity you’ve posted here.

BTW, Tuesday night I’m sure there will be many of us conservatives very happy. Maybe then you can go post on Left-wing blogs and lecture the depressed liberals about how they shouldn’t blame other people for their own unhappiness. I’m not holding my breath expecting you to do this. Once again, you’re a projecting hypocrite.

i think you would actually resort to violence, if you could get away with it …

… my happiness doesnt live and die with politics, theyre all a bunch of self absorbed liars, you really think these Tea Party candidates care about you?

these millionaire politicians dont give a rip about any of us, they care about themselves and their party and winning, nothing else…

end of lecture, go back to feeling superior and living in glass houses now, just imagine stomping on my head, that should make you happy lol, violence solves everything right?

  72. Look at his comparison picture. Do you see that second building on the right? The one that looks like it has ridges, or is 4 smaller things coming out? The one that is halfway up the photo?

That’s the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. That building above it, with the circular thing on the roof, is the National Museum of the American Indian. On the left side of the photograph, you have the buildings of the the National Gallery of Art.

Why am I pointing these things out? Because, according to that little oval Hoft put in there to supposedly illustrate the area photographed, none of those buildings should be visible, let alone that high up in the photograph.

At the bottom right, you can see a bit where the road/path curves into the park. That would be in front of the Smithsonian Institution Building and the Museum of African Art.

That curve starts about 2 blocks closer to the Washington Monument than where Hoft says that picture ends.

Pretty pathetic attempt at manipulation there, Mr. Hoft.

one last question… Slappy, how other than to completely agree with you, can anyone get a civil word from you?

do you only accept, talk to or be civil to people who agree with you?

Right back at you, Tommy Boy. Your holier-than-thou drivel is aggravating and hypocritical. Perhaps if you stopped being a phony and actually posted something that wasn’t completely biased and hypocrtical I would take it seriously. But you’re not doing that so I’m treating you in the exact manner that you deserve. You’ve demeaned conservatives multiple times in this thread with your comments but now act like you’re the aggrieved and that I and others here are mean and uncivil. Puh-lease. You’re just angry because I accurately and appropriately called you out for you being such a phony.

    October 30th, 2010 | 5:28 pm | #69

how do you get through the day, or do you fight nonstop with half the people you meet?

No, just jerks that get in my face — whether in person or online — and insult me with hyporitical garbage, half-truths, and arrogant opinions meant to demean my intentions, my good nature, and my integrity. You know, like you’ve done in this thread.

I guarantee that I deal with more people than you on a daily basis due to my profession and I get along with 99.9% of them because I treat them with respect and they treat me with respect. You didn’t here, with your tacit insults against all conservatives, so I treated you accordingly. You were treated the exact way you should have been.

now i know what i feels like in a lynchmob…scary…i guess its a crime to have a different point of view, who knew?

Are you tearing up? Now you’re concerned about different points of view? You came on here and lectured everyone about not supporting this joke of a rally today instead of simply accepting that most of us saw it for what it was — an opportunity for Left-wingers to overtly and subtly insult “unhip” conservatives.

  75. Back at ya, BG. Your comment/link at #72 is hilarious!

  76. “simply amazin@ you guys justify your need to hate, and yet im sure youre all christians, right?” – tom

I’m not Christian. Nor do I follow the Bible.

So, I have no problems hating people like you.

And yes. Hate. Despise. Loathe. Detest.

    Shall I go on?

  77. Regarding the size of the rallies? Who cares?

So a bunch of jugheads had a rally.

The only count that matters is on Tuesday.

  78. Tom: “wow its a real cyber lynch mob! amazing, the hatred is palpable, pretty incredible people … jesus would be proud of you, im sure youll be in church tomorrow, cursing lefties under your breath right? LOL!

ME: How many Left-wing talking points did you fit in that one post? The jig is up, Tommy Boy. You’re a fraud who doesn’t practice what he preaches. Now you’re even accusing us of wanting to engage in physical violence simply because we responded to your drivel. Where do you get off accusing us of advocating violence? You’re the first one that brought it up so you could be the victim and morally superior to all of us who have exposed your opinions for what they are — the delusions of a smug moron with a minor-league intellect.

You then top the “violence” accusation by accusing us of “feeling superior” when that is EXACTLY what you did with your lecturing tone in this thread. “I’m Tom and I just want everyone to get along.” Sure you do. Of course, while posting that we should see the goodness in one another (i.e., conservatives should just do what liberals want us to do), you continued to insult all conservatives.

Go cry yourself to sleep, you hypocritical intellectual coward.

  79. Yo Tom

  84. 87 K for the 9/12 Beck Rally. And that’s laughably low. The 8/28 Beck Rally drew at least 250,000.

  85. oh and jimg, i admire your honesty then, at least you dont pretend to respect the Bible and then stomp on people who arent like you, youre free to dislike anyone u want, youre being true to yourself i can respect that..

  86. I find this photo hilarious for a thousand reasons. What time was this taken? Like 10 am? As opposed to the Beck rally which was at its highest. ALL MAJOR networks are reporting this rally had 6-7 times the number of people that were at the Beck rally. Even a guard at the Smithsonian says this crowd was a whole lot nicer than at the other rally.

In terms of name calling, who’s making comments about gays, South Americans and Muslims? Certainly one party. I love how sometimes GOP is referred to as the party of God. If you truly believe in God, you wouldn’t promote such vitorol. I’ll pray for y’all.

  87. Tom, You need to step away from the drugs for a while.

have a great night, everyone, Im gonna go hug a conservative now lol, buy them a drink or u know, solve some problems together ..

  90. Sharie, time to take your meds. Come back and see us on Wenesday.

  91. Chisum im having so much fun holding up a mirror to some of these viewpoints, i just pray somehow that some tolerance and sanity sinks in, im doing my part for the human race and sharing my favorite Bible verses, how can you begrudge me that good deed?

just not lest ye be judged, lets all agree to disagree, and hope for the best results for Tuesday, maybe some compromise we can ALL be happy with…

man, how’s the weather up in fantasy land?”

ME: Jeez, do you ever go away? You’re like herpes.

No, unlike you, I don’t try to lecture them and talk down to them, while also accusing them of behaving a certain way when I’m hypocritically the one behaving that way, like you’ve done in this thread. I’m actually in a profession in which I’m significantly outnumbered by liberals but yet I don’t have any problems with getting along with people because I don’t act like you did in this thread…you know, like a sanctimonious jerk.

BTW, nice try switching this to be about me when you’re the one that came on here and made the entire thread about you and your glorious “realistic” world outlook about everyone getting along. I guess you want to shift the debate since it’s not going too well for you, as evidenced by the fact that you skip and ignore most of what I’m posting that exposes you for the fraud that you are. That’s why you’re focusing on me personally instead of the content of what I posted.

Tom: “I ‘lectured’ some here becuase i was amazed at the level of negative hateful tone to what was a pretty benign, fun filled afternoon of lets face it, plenty of MSNBC bashing!

take some resopnsiblity for your life and stop blaming and labeling other people to explain away your misery … geez talk about killjoys”

ME: Blah blah blah. You’re like a freakin’ broken record. You’ve already posted basically this same post how many times in this thread? We get it. You don’t like that anyone here criticized the rally and you think we’re all haters for simply being conservative (while ignoring the excessive hate against conservatives constantly expressed by liberals, including you in this thread), but you’re going to have put on the big boy pants and deal with it. That’s what being an adult is all about.

BTW, who is blaming anybody for our lives? I know I’m not. You and your ilk are the ones that want to put control of your lives in the hands of politicians and the government. I know conservatives like myself don’t want to blame anyone else, we just want to be able to live our lives in freedom. So what the heck are you even talking about? It doesn’t even make sense. You’re delusional. You’ve also done your fair share of “labeling other people to explain away your misery” in this thread, too, dummy.

You came here and are blaming us for having a different point of view, as we should just stop disagreeing with the Left and simply adopt their views, including expressing how wonderful today’s Stewart rally was. Well, we’re not, nor did the Left when Beck had his rally. So why don’t you leave like you’ve promised/threatened to do several times in this thread because you look like a complete fool who is in over his head intellectually.

  94. Chisum #90 – Promises…promises…

  96. see Sharie, you see a totally obvious difference in two photos, and somehow, YOU didnt take your meds! I mean people, we have eyes, those two photos are NOTHING alike, you dont need meds to figure that out, i mean who cares which rally had more people anyway?

both rallies had between 1500 and 4 billion, cant we agree on that?

  97. Slappy shouldnt you be out hugging a liberal, or making friends with those 99 percent of people you get along with so well in your daily life?

i dare ya, hug a liberal this week, change your life, soften that hard heart! i keep wanting to leave but this is just too good to resist

Give it a rest. Your new-age “words of wisdom” are idiotic beyond belief. As I said, I don’t have a problem with liberals (including my loved ones who are liberals, imagine that), just dishonest, phony ones like you who post comments that look like they were taken from a fortune cookie or book of poetry. You pretend you want everyone to get along but you repeatedly tossed out insults against all conservatives.

Once again, your post is about me, not about what I’ve written in regards to your hypocrisy. It’s obvious that you can’t hang intellectually so now you’re resorting to repetition with your posts. You have nothing to offer. It’s time for you to limp away defeated.

and not a peep about my ‘love thy neighbor as theyself’ comment, because what can you say?

every comment here justifies hate, divisiveness and seperation from your neighbor, some here cling to it like a life raft … you judge ‘lefties’ and yet jesus commands not to judge, lest ye be judged in return …

talk about a disconnect! I dont profess to be a traditional christian, but I can appreciate the widsom of these words, and at least attempt to live them, why cant some of u?

that’s it off to COmedy Central i blame this side track on Twitter, which had a link to this site … and that photo is hilarious!
    ——————————

    1) I’m not a Christian
    2) I don’t care about Jesus
    3) Jesus lived in a world without fascists
    4) Jesus had no idea what leftists will do when they have the power (hint: check Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Kim Jong Il, etc, to get an idea)

    Tom, you want tolerance?

Have you ever bothered to check where that word comes from and what it actually means?

Apparently not. Because then you’d know that it’s essential meaning is “to endure”. And enduring things is hardly a way to go through life.

Sanity? Oh please. You want sanity? Then don’t look at DC. Don’t look at the morons at this rally, who think that being “moderate” means anything, who have not the slightest idea of what’s going on in the world, who apparently believe that copying Europs is a smart thing to do.

Tom, the human race? Your Bible verses? The idea of a human race is an artificial construct pushed by people who try to force everyone to believe that all humans are equal (which they are not.) And the Bible verses… careful, those can get you killed. You are an infidel. Killing you is perfectly alright, in the name of allah.

  114. I was at the rally. Your photo of the Stewart/Colbert rally is blatantly misleading.

That empty green space behind the crowd, in that dark, out of focus photo? It was roped off by the National Park Service. Crowds thronged back on both sides of it, much further than that picture shows, nearly all the way to the Washington Monument. They flooded the side streets.

It’s a minor point. The point of this rally wasn’t some measuring contest. I have no problem granting that the Beck rally may have been much larger.

But do you have to be phony? Don’t ethics count for you?

  115. I strongly recommend removing this post. Check out the mini-maps. The circle for Beck’s rally goes way past the WWII memorial where the photo ends. Meanwhile the Daily Show rally’s circle ends before the circular Hirshhorn museum. Remember too that the DS rally is more packed.

  116. Oh, i see. It’s bigoted to ask someone if they are gay?

More proof of the “tolerant left”.

  117. Slipstrike, you don’t win a war with ethics.

    Yes, we are at war.

The other side pisses on ethics. They lie every day. Obama has no problem calling 9-11 a “man made disaster.” And his minions are riding a similar wave. Why should we follow ethics?

Oh, because… we are better than them, right? Or whatever other BS reason people pull out of their butts.

Newsflash: This is war. At the moment this war if fought with words only. But this will change. It will begin in Europe, as usual. And the sooner people get that into their heads, the better it is. The leftists are the first step. The main target is hiding behind them.

  118. LOL! 7 people attend rally!

“Our total count includes Stewart, [Stephen] Colbert, and what appear to be a few of their friends and relatives,” said Fox anchor Shepard Smith. “This has to be a smaller crowd than they were expecting.”

    We report, YOU decide!

  119. Hmmm, no response to the fact that I’ve shown that the area pictured in the Stewart photo is about twice the size of what that person who made the comparison wanted you to believe (at least three blocks longer, to around where you see “9th St,” and much wider). Or that the area pictured in the Beck photo is smaller than what that person would have you believe (take away the whole area between the Washington and World War II Monuments, which is just about one third of that oval).

Essentially, that little map at the bottom of that comparison picture would be more accurate if the size of ovals were switched.

But you couldn’t possibly have known that. No way Jim Hoft could possibly be so blatantly dishonest, right?

    ……..

    Never mind.

  120. Tom, we’ve got your number.

From now on you will be referred to as “Touchie-Feelie Tom”.

  121. Chisum, toucy feely? ew, not with this group, im not!

and its really odd for anyone to even ask or care if anyone’s gay or not, did I ask anyone if they were? no, because its IRRELVANT, is it not? or were u loooking for a date? anyway…

I AM a socialist and marxist however, LOL! what can I say

  122. Touchie-Feelie Tom,

Put your money where your mouth is. Go hug a conservative and report back.

Take some chocolates and wine with you.

  123. as I said, i think its great that those of you who are NOT christians admit it, and then, your free opinions i can accept without complaint, youre not being hypocrites, just honest … you can hate whoever or whatever u want, thats honest, but i cannot understand chrsitians/evangelicals spouting hate speech that flies in the face of Jesus’s own words…

  124. Furthermore, those ovals that you’ve circled for the size of the rally? Blatantly misleading.

Note how you’ve included all of the space between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial in the Beck rally as filled by the crowd. That isn’t what your photo indicates.

And the oval shown for the Stewart rally encompasses less than half of the actual size of the crowd- which did extend on both sides of the roped off space nearly to the World War II Memorial, spilled over on the lower side streets off of Independence Avenue, and stretched behind the stage, which was parallel to the American Indian Museum.

Seriously- why do you feel obligated to crook people?

  125. Tom not only suffers from penis envy, he is battling crowd-size envy. Poor Tom.

  126. I don’t call myself a Christian, yet I’m sick and tired of hearing leftards use “judge not lest ye be judged” to silence Christians, just as I’m fed up with self-proclaimed Christians who don’t correct leftards who say that because they, themselves, don’t really know the context of Mat 7:1-5 or what it means.

    http://www.cfirecm.com/QandA/Judge%20Not%20Lest%20Ye%20Be%20Judged.htm

Now let’s take a look at the famous verse that is so misquoted today and put it in its PROPER context. If we are intellectually honest when looking at this passage, we will find that it is actually teaching us to judge, not to refrain from judging! We have inserted a few comments in brackets.

Mat 7:1-5 “Judge not, that ye be not judged [do not judge others if you do not want to be judged by others; everyone will be judged by God]. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again [if you judge others, they will judge you by the same measures]. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye [how can you judge someone when you are guilty of the sin yourself]? Thou hypocrite [this is the audience in the context; a hypocrite is one who is not living what he is preaching], first cast out the beam out of thine own eye [FIRST judge yourself and get your own life cleaned up]; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye [THEN after you get your life straight, you will be able to discern clearly and you are commanded to help clean your brother’s eye!].

    How Are We to Judge?

    1. We are to judge righteously. Jesus commands in John 7:24, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

Judge by the Word of God and Its principles, not by someone’s skin color, whether they are tall or short (inherited physical traits), etc.

    2. We are to judge without hypocrisy. “And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?” (Rom 2:3)

Judge yourself first to see if you are guilty of that sin. Live what you preach. Only after you get your life cleaned up by turning from your sins and receiving pardon through repentance and faith in Jesus (i.e. you get saved) you can go and help others to be saved too.

    Here’s another http://www.capalert.com/judgenot.htm

    That’s reality.

  129. Andreas K: “you don’t win a war with ethics.

    Yes, we are at war…”

I presume you didn’t attend the Rally For Sanity, LOL…

  130. WTF is going on? Did some Libtard website tell their minions to go forth and puff up the crowd size?

  131. lol are u kidding?

and what caveats are u going to pull out to dissolve ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’? to justify hating your neighbor?? hate is in the heart, and God doesnt love republicans more than democrats! i mean i would never imply that, how can you?

  132. I’m glad they held this rally. It gives us snapshots of both the right and the left.

On one one side we see rational, concerned, thinking Americans.

On the other side we see Animal House.

I wonder if they realize how silly they sound?

  133. us vs. them, Chisum, always the view of life you have, just so sad, label, judge and win or lose, cant we all be unified to create a better America as Americans?

you always gotta be fighting against someone so you can define yourself… must be exhausting

“It gives us snapshots of both the right and the left.

On one one side we see rational, concerned, thinking Americans.

On the other side we see Animal House.”

You can see that, from those photos?

Do you realize how silly you sound?

I was there, Jane. The place was full of ordinary Americans. I didn’t see any beer or booze drinking at all. I walked the length of the place several times, and smelled pot smoke twice the entire afternoon. The crowd left the place clean.

Like one of the signs at the rally said: Chill, Baby, Chill.

  139. C’mon. This was a free concert with some stand up thrown in. It had nothing to do politics to those in the crowd.

  140. The ellipse for todays rally is too small and shifted to the right by one block. The rally’s official permitted space was between 3rd and 7th streets, or three complete blocks. If you look at the people on the paths, and put them onto the open, roped-off grass, they would probably fill the space between 7th and ninth streets.

The ellipse for the Beck rally is too large, and should be about 20% smaller.

But here’s the thing, the actual areas of both rallies are pretty similar.

The Reflecting Pool is approximately 2000 x 170 feet. The grassy area to the south is about two reflecting pools wide, while the tree lined area to the North is about one pool wide. So the area where most people were was a space about 2000 ft x 510 ft, or a little over 1M square feet.

At the same scale, the four blocks covered by today’s rally is about the same length, but a little narrower. But the people at today’s rally seem to be packed a little tighter. OTOH, there are many more sound towers and structures mixed into the crowd at the Stewart rally, so I think the crowd sizes are pretty similar.

Beck’s rally was nowhere near 500,000 people because to put that many people into a 1M square foot area would require those people to be jammed together shoulder to shoulder over the entire space, about 2 square feet per person. There is a fair amount of green space on the left side of the Beck photo, and lots of people brought chairs, ice chests, etc.

A better estimate would be about 6 square feet per person, which would put the number of people a little over 150K. I actually think it’s closer to 100K, once you factor in the empty space.

Today’s rally was probably over 100K, but certainly not over 150K, as they seemed more tightly packed.

That said, one has to realize that the goal of today’s rally was to outdraw Beck’s rally, and they used every means necessary to do so.

For most of the people at today’s rally, that was their main objective. Secondarily, they went to be entertained.

    There was no higher purpose.

Hell, most of them took nothing away from this rally, because nothing was asked of them.

Beck’s rally, OTOH, was attended mostly by people with a higher purpose, that of becoming better people. They came because they wanted something more of themselves, and they left with a charge to improve themselves.

The award winners at the Beck rally were people of substance who have given to their communities. The “winners” at today’s rally were comedy props.

Yes, there were probably more bodies at today’s rally than at Beck’s, but in terms of substance, today the National Mall was empty.

In fact, I appreciate that you shared that because, even though you didn’t have a ride and therefore didn’t go, there are surely others who did have a ride and went to be entertained. I estimate that was the case for more than 95% of the attendees, if not all of them. After all, it was a Comedy Central music and comedy show. That the word “rally” was used by Comedy Central in the name of the show doesn’t make it a rally any more than slapping the title of President of the United States makes The Wonce do the job of POTUS or behave in a presidential manner.

    ht Valerie in another thread..

[That would be the same Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens who endorsed the Fatwah against Salman Rushdie. For instance, the New York Times reported (registration required) as follows in 1989:

The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy
of the author Salman Rushdie, ”I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing.”

The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ”The Satanic Verses.” He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ”I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.”

”I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man
is,” said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.

That would be the same Yusuf Islam that Charles Johnson (in his sane period) quoted as saying: “The Qur’an makes it clear, if someone defames the Prophet, then he must die.” (As of this writing, Johnson has made no mention of Stevens/Islam’s presence at the rally. Color me surprised.) This is the same Yusuf Islam who threatened Farrukh Dhondy:

In the first week of the fatwa against Rushdie and his book, I [Dhondy] appeared on a television panel. Among the Muslim panelists, all of whom favored condemning the book, were two zealots: the same Kalim Siddiqui; and Yusuf Islam, the Muslim convert pop singer of Greek Cypriot origin formerly known as Cat Stevens. The moderator asked if, in my role as a commissioning editor of Channel 4 UK, I would contemplate turning The Satanic Verses into a film. I said that I would judge the cinematic merits of the script, and that no other consideration would rule it out. Kalim Siddiqui and Yusuf Islam snarled, warning that the sentence of death on Rushdie would extend to all those who forwarded his book in any way.

And this ___hole is in the rally to restore sanity?!

That is for Beck’s rally. I’m sure Rally to Restore Sanity will be up soon.

As far as my views, I see Beck as nothing more than a bunch of rhetoric. I’m not a liberal, or close to it, but I don’t support fear mongoring. I work just like everyone else to pay my bills and feed my family. I also think we can solve most of the problems facing us, and I am somewhere in the middle with my views. I don’t support all of Stewarts views, especially on health care, but I very much appreciate that he is at least trying to get people together rather than divide them.

As far as most of the comments I’ve seen here, it’s a very sad state of affairs when you are trying to compare someone who tries to be a political pundunt (Beck) to someone who is a Comedian. Maybe a liberal, but at least Stewart has some sensibility and “honour” to him. Very sad indeed.

  163. You are all real people posting here, right?

    Because, quite frankly, that’s terrifying.

  164. Also, please make note of the fact that science is in sync with democtats with issues like stem cell research evolution global warming

  165. Seriously? You don’t just SEE that this is Photoshopped? Google Image search the real shot and compare it to the one on the left. Or do you dare not for fear that you may be wrong? After all, duping a population into believing that their entire identity is rooted in a political ideology is admittedly the most clever political ploy in history. It leaves you with too much to loose should you be wrong so your DESPERATION to be right is a life or death matter that often calls for pure, unmitigated denial of reality. I wonder how insulted you’re going to be IF you ever come to your senses and realize that your own stupidity is an outrageously exploited commodity?

  166. This photo comparison is more than slightly confusing for those of us who have never been there… the reference points are missing some vital details from my perspective.

Ones a self loving egomaniac Political Pundit, the other is a Comedian. Sure you want to compare one to the other?

  171. The comments left on this blog exemplify perfectly the reason that this rally was needed.

The “left” are not communists. The “right” do not cling to their guns and religions. We are not democrat and republican. We are American.

Everyone has good ideas. Everyone has bad ideas.
The only way we can find the BEST ideas is to listen to them all, then have an intelligent discussion without ridiculous insults and hyperbolic non-factual rhetoric. And you are all guilty of it, regardless of your political beliefs.

  172. That’s the last comment I need to read. I’d rather go away from this thread with happiness and that does it for me. Another comment by Tom, who has admitted he definitely IS a marxist and socialist — which philosophy’s deluded adherents through history have intentionally murdered over TEN MILLION PEOPLE — and who also has the gall to mention Christ Jesus and the Word of God in his “arguments”, and I’m likely to break something.

Then I wouldn’t get any sleep, which would make it impossible to get to WORK tomorrow morning, which would make it so that I don’t get to pay, out of my NINE DOLLARS AN HOUR, for Union benefits for those poor, unfortunate souls who have to scrape by on SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS AN HOUR (including the “my” bennies, and the “my” pension, and the “my” sickdays, and all the other “my”s), and what kind of hard-hearted person would I be if I didn’t support those more unfortunate than myself, like those who don’t want to work and so lie and say they’re UNABLE, and stand in line in front of me to buy, with my generous tax donations, TEN STEAKS with their welfare credit card without so much as a thank-you, while I’m buying with what’s left of my check some microwave burritos and cheap soup.

I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror if I didn’t pay for all the parasites to continue being parasites, so, it’s off to bed.

    SCREW YOU TOM.

AND THAT’S A FIRST FOR ME AT GP.

  175. valid point i appreciate ur open mind

  176. It is more than disturbing to read through the comments left on this web page. Why is it that you people are all so hateful? Left, Right I don’t give a crap, both sides seem to be brainwashed by the media. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone actually try to think for themselves. What is it in you that makes you want to hate the other so vehemently? You’re all the same.

There is no victory for a divided and hate-fueled America.

  177. Tom’s right; the hatred is palpable here. I pity you all. God will judge you poorly for your lives wasted on hate.

  178. Its just that i believe in my gut that what they want to do is flat out stupid direction i usually think i have an open mind but eventually i have to speak up

  179. Taqiyy,

You need a hand out yourself. Some type of prescription. Seriously…

First of all, not all Christians are Republican. My father was a devout Christian that fought in WWII, but definitely had a belief that we should help those less fortunate. God Bless his soul.

There are many that abuse the system. I think we should do more to find and prosecute them, but the welfare system is broken. It needs to be repaired, not abolished.

I work for what I have, and I grew up in a very poor household. The 1970′s were not kind to us, and my father was not the type to “suck off the public tit” as he would put it, but always instilled a virtual of volunteering and doing for the community.

What Beck and extreme conservativism stands for to me is a very elitist (a word usually reserved for liberals) view of the world where anyone one who is down and out isn’t worthy of being an American. Sad… very sad…

  180. thanks to those who understood the point of the rally i admire u and hope u stick with the message throughout ur life

  181. Andreas said: “4) Jesus had no idea what leftists will do when they have the power (hint: check Hitler”

Hitler hated the lefties and brought death to the union bosses and communist leaders.

  182. I don’t have a clue how many people showed up at either “rally” and I don’t really care but that pic’s a lie…the circle for Beck’s “rally” is clearly larger than the pic supporting it, the crowd doesnt reach the Washington Monument. And going by this photo someone posted in a comment of the “1997 Stand in the Gap Promise Keepers rally” you underestimated Stewart’s “rally”, looks like it actually goes to 7th street, past the Smithsonian. They actually look to be about the same size area, but Beck has a big reflecting pond in the middle.

Can’t say which rally was larger without some proof that actually says something, like maybe a more representative photo of Beck’s “rally” if that’s the case.

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bCoF8r1f0Kg/SrlA7gjgrvI/AAAAAAAACkM/8hpA_0XX4_w/s400/promisekeepers+down+the+mall.jpg

  183. I watched the rally online. There were no hitler mustaches except on a sign depicting Charlie Chaplin… The crowd size greatly exceeding the misleading photos posted on this biased site. More than double the Beck rally… but who cares?

Why are you so angry that you lie and misconstrue the truth? Things are picking up, my architectural office is considering who to recall from our former co-workers.

You have not lost any freedoms, Except those sacrificed in the “Homeland Security” legislation passed first under the Bush administration, but unfortunately continued under our current administration.

There are no aliens stalking you. Your taxes have been reduced. There is no evil plot. We do not need to go backwards… I like microwave ovens. I recoil from the time Glen Beck and his incoherent ramblings allude. Mr. Beck needs medical attention.

  184. This really captures your (often self-) deception in a nutshell:

    1. The photo on the right has been shrunk horizontally (compare it to the original at http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20021284-503544.html ).

    2. The photo on the left is shot at a lower angle (or do trees grow extra-high when Beck is around?).

    3. The circle on the map at left encompasses the entire group of people, whereas the circle at the right stops short, well before the actual crowd ends (which extended well past the Air and Space museum), as you can make out in the very photo it purports to summarize!

    4. Beck’s fans must also mistake themselves for H20, since if you don’t count the reflecting pool in the crowd size (warning — takes imagination!), you can see it for what it was, a narrow strip of people.

    5. I’m sure you have detailed rebuttals to the scientific methodology (and warnings about relying on single photos) detailed here: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20015214-503544.html .

What’s sad is not that you all lack the brain power to deduce from the facts right in front of your noses the truth; nor that you deceive yourselves; nor even that you try to deceive others; but that you clearly live in a world where every major news organization and every major scientist, engineer, and empirical worker of any sort is all engaged in a vast conspiracy to belittle Beck’s numbers with “manipulated” facts. That goes way beyond conspiracy theory to paranoid delusion.

  185. stop calling me leftist and facist and i wont call you god fearing racist brainwashed jackass’s

  186. How do we know?

Look at the jumbotron that’s in place of the stage. See the close-up of what looks to be a woman’s face? Yeah. That ain’t the Rally, although I’m not sure whose it is. The Sanity Rally had a stage with musicians.

(I’ll also note that someone figured it out, and has been circulating a poorly doctored photo to copy/paste the stage over the jumbotron. But it’s a bad PS job, and it’s so highly pixelated that it looks like an 8-bit graphic – intentionally.)

Copying an actual image of the rally from CBS’s article (I’ll attest to it because I was there, and it matches what I saw):

    http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2010/10/30/stewart_colbert_rally_aerial_1_620x350.JPG

There’s even video during the first hour with Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman essentially warming the crowd up, where they did long shots towards the Washington Monument. You get a serious idea of just how packed the Mall was with that as well. I personally saw jam-packed bodies from the stage to the Monument (with intentional clearing around the monument itself because hey, it’s the freakin’ Monument). Other rallygoers said the crowds continued all the way to the Lincoln Memorial, but I didn’t see this myself, and I’ve yet to find an online source for the picture.

I have no idea how many people were there. I CAN tell you that it was crazy-packed on the Mall itself from wherever the stage was (prolly on the west side of 4th Street SW? Not sure), most definitely at 7th; all the way to 14th Street NW with some thinning by the monument. However, the crowds also went around the Monument, and extended on the north side of the Mall about 1-2 blocks of heavy crowding, with thinning out by the 3rd block to where you didn’t feel packed.

Look. Right, left, I don’t give a toss. I’m a photographer. I just hate seeing BS thrown up as accurate. This isn’t about measuring whose ePeenie rally had the more people. This is about “Hey, your image for the Stewart Rally? That ain’t the rally. Try again.”

Hey, I’m doing this for you. If you’re going to vent, vent about something truthful.

  212. It is remarkable to see the avatars of misinformation attempting to spin this moment in time. What is it about a quarter million people coming together to support teamwork and rational discourse that the few verbally violent posters here find so threatening? Are you fearful that the voices of calm and reason are going to cancel the hate orgy? The hope is that enough wing-folks will perhaps take up civil conversation as the accepted mode of problem solving, and stop bludgeoning the other side with vitriolic garbage.

For me, the first step is to ask simple questions, like:

-Why aren’t the two photos time-stamped?

…the one on the right was taken around seven a.m. as people were already securing their spaces for the largest gathering the National Mall has seen this year.

-What is the exact, verifiable scale of both the photos and the drawings?

…I could post a close-up shot of a turtle next to a picture of a ox taken from a distance which would create the ILLUSION that the turtle is larger, but that does not mean the turtle IS larger than the Ox.

But regardless of the answers to these, and many more questions, we must understand that there are a small number of really pissed off folks in America right now who think that if they could get everybody else pissed off too we would somehow solve problems…or something.
I’m not really sure how the logic works. I know that when I stumble upon them, usually because they post misinformation, hate speech, or links to silly photos on otherwise civil, friendly sites, I feel obligated to let them know that everything is going to be okay. There are still way too many sane folks who are going to keep working to make this country, and this planet, a beautiful, wonderful place, regardless of how much they try to burn it down with their hate, anger and fear.

    Cheers,

  214. A bit of data to munch on for you fans of facts…

The exterior of the Lincoln Memorial echoes a classic Greek temple and features Yule marble. The structure measures 189.7 by 118.5 feet (22,479 sq. ft.) and is 99 feet tall.

The Capitol covers a ground area of 175,170 square feet, or about 4 acres, and has a floor area of approximately 16-1/2 acres. Its length, from north to south, is 751 feet 4 inches; its greatest width, including approaches, is 350 feet. Its height above the base line on the east front to the top of the Statue of Freedom is 288 feet; from the basement floor to the top of the dome is an ascent of 365 steps. The building contains approximately 540 rooms and has 658 windows (108 in the dome alone) and approximately 850 doorways.

    Kinda puts things in PERSPECTIVE…

  215. Yay! A new label to put on my list of awards from people who make ad hominem attacks in an effort to distract from the facts! Thanks Auntie!

  216. Oops, looks like you accidentally cropped out half of the crowd for Stewart’s rally and photoshopped in something else. No problem, could happen to anyone, I’m sure. Here’s an unedited one so you don’t have to go through the trouble of finding it yourself.

  217. You don’t do yourself a service by relying on such an obviously distorted homemade graphic.

With respect to the Beck rally, it neglects to omit the area covered by the long reflecting pool. In addition, the high-definition aerial photos used by Airphotoslive clearly show that the crowd was almost nonexistent beyond the WWII monument. A more honest graphic would have noted these two factors, as well as the fact that large swaths of the area included were very sparsely populated.

    http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=20e143f6-2e3c-43ce-ad35-7c91a7b25f56&m=false&i=0:0:23&c=-0.0326945:0.00564689:-0.155881&z=456.487753646045&d=3.20724838548858:-2.11638966347034:-1.35131803732056&p=0:0&t=False

With respect to the Stewart rally, the crowd clearly went far beyond the area shown in the graphic. Even the few pictures available show that the crowd extended at least to the Smithsonian Castle/Information Center..which would make the oval outline about two-thirds bigger on this graphic.

It’s been just under the surface for so long–why come out now? I’d like to hear from Bill Clinton on this. Which one of you trolls are the former disgraced POTUS who keeps on disgracing himself by trying to keep blacks from running for public office?

Let’s address the healthcare fiasco? Which one of you trolling mental midgets is Kathy Sebelius? Which one is Pelosi? Harry F. Reid!! Come out, come out where ever you are! Explain to us what is in the bill (most of us here have read it)….now’s your chance to tell us what we’ve gotten wrong.

Let’s address the division of the country, the total lack of leadership or respect for the office of president and America, the demoralization of the American citizens, and the lack of JOBS. Obama, that would be you. Be a man for once and reveal yourself. Jack, are you Obama? Katabastic, are you the supremely impotent crybaby in chief? Where are you, you little weasel?

No one ‘gets’ you trolls because you lack substance. It’s all sizzle and no steak, day in and day out. This little freak show rally just proves how immature and out of touch you truly are. There is a serious side to political discourse. It is the stuff wars are made of.

  220. Oh…. and I forgot about the very first comment……

You have to love the name attached to it…..”demscansuckit”.

Really makes me want to run out and vote Repulican!! (Pun intended).

And of course, “demscansuckit” is going to tell us Glen Becks rally was bigger because he knows …..he was there “hand counting” the people at each rally.

So forget about any other source of reliable information …….discount all of it, and take “demscansuckit’s” expert opinion and “factual” data. (Unless Glen Beck says otherwise).

This is exactly the kind of insane moronic people which “the Rally to Restore Sanity” are trying to address. All this guy and many others see is an “R” or a “D” in front of the name on the ballot box. It truely shows how ignorant Americans have become!

  221. Anyone caring to investigate the doctored up pictures this moron gave for comparison… feel free to do so. Stewards rally was in front of the US Capitol Building and went past seventh street and the Air and Space Museum. Becks was in front of the Lincoln Memorial and almost made it to the WWII Memorial. Of course, Becks cult had to form around the Lincoln Reflecting Pool… Stewards didn’t. Its easy to make big circles and little circles on a map, and have a picture from far away look smaller then a picture from taken from up close.

    WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

God wants you to WAKE UP!

Dont take everything you hear or see as the being the truth. Your eyes have been decieved by the person posting these pictures. Your mind is next!!

Oddly, no one’s looking at that.

Hell, I even copypasted my comments to another page that propagated the wrong pic from this blog, and now I’m some sort of garbage media mogul. Hell, I might be a Sorosite or Pelosian too, we’ll see how THOSE accusations fly.

    ME:
First of all, I’m not religious nor am I a fanatic, though you characterizing everyone here as that shows who is ignorant, doesn’t it?

Second, I don’t watch Glen Beck. Honestly, I’ve seen about 5-10 minutes of two episodes the entire time he’s been on the air. Yet, you toss around this claim about us being members of a “Glen Beck cult” as if it’s true.

Third, characterizing us as angry while giving your side a pass is laughable and you know it. Both sides are passionate and we can quibble about which side is more passionate (or angry) but to act like it’s just the opposing side that is angry, is intellectually dishonest beyond belief.

Lastly, stop trying to lecture people with the trite “What would Jesus think?” type of argument. If you’re not religious, what gives you the credibility to throw that into people’s faces, and if you are religious, you should know better than to do so considering no remarks here rise to anything more than simply heated political disagreements.

  227. thomas:
“This is exactly the kind of insane moronic people which “the Rally to Restore Sanity” are trying to address. All this guy and many others see is an “R” or a “D” in front of the name on the ballot box. It truely shows how ignorant Americans have become!”

    ME:
You don’t really believe that this was anything more than a rally of mostly Leftists, do you? Tuesday is not going to be pleasant for your side, which is why many of you are here arguing emotionally about the real size of the rally. It’s a specious argument. Personally, I get tired of these arguments from each side about crowd sizes after each rally. Bottom line: as expected the turnout was very good for this event, though this means absolutely nothing come Tuesday.

As for your comment that “This is exactly the kind of insane moronic people which “the Rally to Restore Sanity” are trying to address,” this rally was doing nothing of the sort. It was trying to convince people to vote for Democrats on Tuesday. This rhetoric about both sides coming together, as evidenced by many comments at the rally and online, is really for everyone to side with the agenda of Obama and the Left. That’s fairly obvious. We’ll see how cooperative the Left is with the Republicans in control of the House and possibly the Senate. I’m not holding my breath.

As for your comment that “It truely [sic.] shows how ignorant Americans have become!”, that’s how many of us felt in 2008 when an inexperienced man with little accomplishments was elected President. He’s the one that rammed through the health care bill while saying that the next election would judge that decision. Well, I think we all know how that’s going to turn out, yet the Left appears to be upset that the majority of the country doesn’t agree with their plans for the country.

  228. Wow, that’s quite a distortion, there. Why are you folks afraid of real facts. You’ve shown a distortion on the size of the areas with those circles (try having a circle representing the area where people were, with similar density of packing — Stewart’s is a LOT bigger). The sizes of the circles don’t even correspond to the land areas, let alone the density. Go to google maps and look at the areas with land that people were on. Then look at the photos showing the density of people. Are you people that blind? That easily deceived? Wow.

  230. I guess Lefties many of the Leftists posting here don’t see the hypocrisy in coming here and telling us that all conservatives do what Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck tell us to do, while at the same time they are watch their Left-wing hosts religiously to get their talking points (Olbermann, Schultz, Maddow et al.) and go to an event in DC because John Stewart told them to go. (For the record, I am a conservative and I don’t listen to Rush or watch Beck, imagine that?).

Why do Leftists think that individualistic conservatives only walk in lock-step with others as a collective but not apply the logic to their own behaviors? This is especially true considering that liberals are big on collectivism and identifying themselves by their group memberships significantly more than conservatives are. After all, there’s a reason why it’s a big story that there have been rallies like Beck’s this year — because conservatives don’t usually engage in this type of largely symbolism-over-substance group behavior.

  231. edwin:
“Wow, that’s quite a distortion, there. Why are you folks afraid of real facts.”

    ME:
Talk about irony. Do you remember how your side treated the turnout at the Beck rally? Or at all the Tea Party rallies all over the country this year? Yeah, you minimized the turnout and insulted the attendees, but are now here trying to act like your side are all about “real facts.” Come Wednesday morning, there will be some other facts for you, too, regarding the agenda of Obama and the Left, though I’m sure you will rationalize the results away despite the “real facts” that will be right in front of your eyes.

    edwin:
“You’ve shown a distortion on the size of the areas with those circles (try having a circle representing the area where people were, with similar density of packing — Stewart’s is a LOT bigger). ME:
More irony…and projection. “Are you people that blind? That easily deceived?” I don’t know, who did you vote for in 2008? My guess is that accusation can be tossed right back at you based on whom you voted for.

  238. (1) The two images should be cropped and scaled so that they present the same angular extent at the same magnification.

    (2) It would be helpful to overlay each image with a projected planar rectangular grid at, say, 50 meter spacing.

Since the two photos were both taken from the same altitude (the top of the Washington Monument) and both from about the same distance to the stage (Lincoln Memorial or 4th Street NW), with the right software, doing (1) and (2) would be straightforward.

  242. Seriously, I just want to say, for the benefit of all Glen Beck fans, don’t make yourselves look like fools. These pictures are completely inaccurate, skewed to look like Beck got more people, and the truth is that the Stewart show got way more people — that is an indisputable fact, not an opinion! The entire Mall was filled for Stewart, with people spilling out into the streets everywhere, and people up in the trees — Beck filled the small area around the reflecting pool and that’s it. There is no comparison. So you’re being really duped and manipulated — and for what? This doesn’t mean Beck isn’t popular, and Stewart put on a different kind of show. I’m just saying, you look like fools if you go around trying to claim Beck’s rally was as well attended. Reality is reality.

  243. You people really make me laugh, in a sad way. Anybody realize the Lincoln Memeorial is 99 feet tall and the Capitol is 288 feet tall? Funny how they look the same size in the photos. There were many more folks at Stewart’s rally, but it doesn’t matter how many people were at these rallies, you dolts are missing the point. Every person who attended the Beck rally is a knuckle-dragging neanderthal who who slobs the knob of Faux Spews with great eagerness. F you people, see you on November 3rd.

  244. Billy:
“Seriously, I just want to say, for the benefit of all Glen Beck fans, don’t make yourselves look like fools. I’m just saying, you look like fools if you go around trying to claim Beck’s rally was as well attended. Reality is reality.”

    ME:
Actually, what makes someone look like a fool is to care as much as you and many on the left do regarding attendance at the event. Yesterday’s event was well attended, whether there were more there than at Beck’s rally or not, though your claim “that the Stewart show got way more people” is obviously debatable and is probably not a fair comparison considering the different ways that the events got people to attend the respective events. And before you attack me for being a Beck fan, I’m not. I really have no opinion of the guy and have probably seen 10-20 minutes of his TV show total since he’s been on the air.

Nonetheless, even accepting your claim as true, it is meaningless considering what’s going to happen on Tuesday to most of the candidates supported by attendees of Stewart’s rally, don’t you think? I know this is a nice issue for the Left to talk about this weekend instead of the election in two days since the Democrats are probably going to be slaughtered, but it’s really a meaningless point. I won’t even go into how disingenuous yesterday’s rally was, as it pretended to be a bipartisan affair when it really was an event run by Comedy Central to promote the network and Stewart’s show, as well as to rile up the Left-wing base, which is Stewart’s audience, to minimize Tuesday’s losses.

Basically, the rally title of “Restoring Sanity” was meant to remind those who voted for Obama in 2008, when he offered promise to liberals and many moderates, to go out and vote for Democrats on Tuesday otherwise Obama’s far Left agenda has no chance of being advanced anymore. Unfortunately for Obama, Pelosi, Reid, & Co., this promise is long gone because they have taken the country down a disastrous path the past couple of years not supported by a strong majority of the country. Some post-partisan uniter, huh?

  246. On your video analysis (where you ROFLMBO’d): I guess I’m not sure what your point is here. Look at my first post on this thread.

    1. The picture shows a jumbotron with a woman’s face as taking up the size of the stage. Unless you have no idea how to GIS “sanity rally”, you know that the stage was a big white metal framework that was open to the air. There was no huge screen showing a woman’s face at any point. And that’s what the pic on the right shows. I don’t get why people are avoiding this point.

    2. I checked the timeblocks you did, and yes, that’s a good representation of the crowd there. Packed to the gills from the stage to the field just before the Monument, where it thinned out/ended at the Monument, then wrapped around it on either side, and continued out of camera range.

How do you compare that section of the video to the one posted on GP, exactly? The pic with the jumbotron with the woman’s face on it?

Aaah, I love internet arguments. I know I shouldn’t, but it’s like Mounds bars. Can’t help but eat just one more.

I did not want the first bailout (skippy voted for that as a senator) nor the second stiulus which skippy wanted as a payoff to the union goons and ACORN SEIU TIDES etc..

People have to become uncomfortable to be spurred to action. Well the current occupant has done just that. Made most of America hate his guts in just 20 months. Many of them voted for him, I know some of them, thier white by the way.

  251. Slappy: Actually, what makes someone look like a fool is to care as much as you and many on the left do regarding attendance at the event. Slappy, I don’t “care” about the attendance, I care about reality. This particular page we’re posting on is lying about the size of the attendance, which is not debatable, unless you think reality is debatable. These photos are ridiculous — the Beck rally photo is stupidly distended to appear larger, the Stewart rally is seriously cropped to appear laughably smaller, they show two different areas of the Mall, and only people who weren’t at either rally and don’t know what the Mall looks like could believe, just based on the photos, that Beck got anywhere near the same numbers. But those same people can find real photos of both events all over the net, so once they stray away from this sad hall of mirrors, they can see the truth if they’re interested.

  252. You guys just seem so desperate and deceitful, that’s all I’m trying to tell you. It’s so pathetic and wrong to photoshop pictures and crop them and lie like this. Why do you think this helps Beck or the Tea Party? Doesn’t the Bible say something about being righteous people? Why would righteous people lie like this? Just be honest and upright and you will win. Since you always accuse the “other” side of being immoral, shouldn’t you demonstrate some morality yourselves?

  253. The photo of the Stewart rally is not an honest photo. There are too many leaves on the trees and Stewart’s stage had a wide white border.

Why are you making such a big deal of the size, does size really matter?

What are you so fearful about?

  254. Slappy! Although the Stewart rally outdrew the Beck rally by 2 – 3 times (and I was at both, mind you), you are right it is not the most important consideration. I would be more concerned about the fact that conservative bloggers — who you obviously use to form your opinions — are lying to you. If you are a true conservative, you should be enraged that these people are keeping you from making informed decisions based on the truth — yourself and millions of your conservative brethren. I feel bad for the poor people who read this blog. Don’t they want the truth? Don’t they deserve the respect of blogs like GP? GP doesn’t want you to know the truth, apparently.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20021284-503544.html?tag=contentMain;contentAux

CBS puts the estimate at 215,000, and the National Park Service has said that it was “well over 200,000″. Is the National Park Service biased?

Here’s a blog that more accurately portrays the crowd size:

    http://www.thepoliticalcarnival.net/2010/10/photoh-side-by-side-aerial-shot-of-rally-to-restore-sanity-215k-and-beck-rally-87k/

If you buy the left-leaning media argument, then I advise you to find out the truth for yourself. Watch a replay of the rally (you can mute it if you want). There are dozens of crowd shots throughout. Note the landmarks (specific museums, etc). Open up a high-res Google map image of the Mall, so you can place the masses of people where they would belong. You’ll quickly see that the crowd was far bigger than what GP is “reporting”.

Find the truth out for yourself. It makes no sense to decry left-wing media bias, and then to believe a blog which is clearly biased.

  255. Real respective rally sizes:

    http://i.imgur.com/AoxXh.jpg

  256. Tres — I was not at the Beck rally, but it’s easy to see the true size of that crowd from all the photos (not on this page — this page, this one is stretched out, which is just silly). They filled the space around the reflecting pool. That’s it.

I was at the Stewart rally, and saw first hand that it filled the entire expanse of the Mall, with people spilling out into the streets on all sides — the Metro trains were not capable of carrying everyone who wanted to go, so a lot of people probably didn’t even make it down there.

People were up in the trees, sitting on top of the Porta-potties, and crowding the stairs of al the buildings lining the streets around the Mall.

Altogether it was a giant crowd that the Mall couldn’t contain. The city was so full of extra people that you couldn’t find anywhere to eat afterward, every restaurant had a huge line and a 3 hour wait.

I’m sorry if this saddens some Beck supporters to hear, but it’s reality — and you are right that they should be furious with this website for lying to them and making them look like idiots on other websites when they post links to this site.

I even got this out of this thread for your lazy ass.
I will fight and kill for my country. It’s not TOM’s country and he’ll have to fight alot of people like me to get it. I’ll do it through the political process but there is always a plan B. Our founding fathers knew men would try and concentrate power for man is falible. The choice is up to the people, socialism or capitalism. If you want socialism vote democrat.
If you want freedom vote republican. We have not been totally taken over from the inside. We are cleaning our house first. America sees this and is on board for the limited government and less spending and lower taxes. Ronald Reagan would be proud of the TPM. powder is dry. twit

  258. Is that photo of the sanity rally from long before the rally started, or is it deliberately altered?

It shows the crowd abruptly ending at 7th street. I was standing in front of the steps of the natural history museum (where 10th street would intersect if it went through) in a shoulder to shoulder crowd and was no where near the back. Also, the crowd density at the Stewart rally was far higher than that of the Beck rally. (I was at both.) You could easily move through most of the crowd at Beck’s as people were lounging in lawn chairs and on blankets. It took hours just to cross the mall at Stewarts. People were packed in like sardines.

I would like to believe that you are not deliberately trying to mislead people, so I assume you will correct your post.

  266. BG! I’m not in the “it was altered photo camp”, but take a look — the circle that GP drew around Stewart’s rally in the aerial photo doesn’t correspond with the picture they put above it. In other words, the circle they drew is disproved by their own photo. I’m usually not one for name calling, but that’s just plain stupid.

In the aerial, the circle ends about halfway past the National Gallery. In the photo above it, the crowd extends past the National Gallery. (Incidentally, I was there and I was standing parallel to the National Gallery, in the center of the Mall in a sea of people. I know first hand that the crowd did not taper off halfway past the National Gallery.)

Shame on GP for misleading us. It’s lying bloggers and media who are the real criminals — to liberals and conservatives alike.

  274. Beck’s Rally has a huge pool in the middle and many people were on law chairs. At Stewart’s rally, people were shoulder to shoulder, climbing trees on sitting on top of each other. Stewart’s rally was also blocking some streets, so they had to turn people away. Also, this picture looks like it was taken before the rally and it was cut off at the end. Go to AirPhotosLive.Com for the real picture.

*BTW… I did graduate from an Ivy league school and I’m rich. Enjoy your piss poor lives

  278. CBS commissioned a non-partisan photography service, airphotoslive.com, and they said Beck had 87,000, and Stewart had 215,000. Based on their multiple aerial photos. But dismiss it as liberalism…

And Huffington bussed 10,000 down, and Oprah did a tiny fraction of that. 280. Biased image is biased. You can clearly see the crowd stretch well beyond the circular building at the right on the stewart picture, yet your circle below doesn’t extend even to the building on the map, much less past it.

    The image posted here:
    http://i.imgur.com/AoxXh.jpg
Shows a much more accurate, to scale proportion of who was where.

The important part is the fact that people feel the need to belittle each other and bias a picture. As if numbers had anything to do with anything. One rally was a religious rally based on restoring religious morals to america, and the other rally was a comedy rally based on how ridiculous the modern media is in it’s portrayal of political issues.
The biased picture *proves* stewart’s points.

  281. The distortion on those photos is epic. As a native of our nation’s capital, I have a horrible reaction to the attempt to use this manipulation for political gains. Whoever did this must lack respect for our great nation and its Capitol and its Lincoln Memorial. Check the shape of these buildings in non-politicized photos:

    Lincoln Memorial:
    http://www.visitingdc.com/memorial/reflecting-pool-washington-dc.htm

    United States Capitol:
    http://indospectrum.com/images/photos/washington-dc-2/cd011_wash_mon_top_view_mall.jpg

Seriously, what kind of ignorant bozo distorts these vistas for political gain?

  282. Late to the party, but… “Restore Honor” brought out one type, but Stewart/Colbert style of humor crosses and brings out a wider cross section.

If anything, I would have expected MORE to show; but once again, the limits of the D.C. regional public transportation system were the determinant in the number showing up.

We would have gone to “Restore Honor” except at 7am, Amtrak was sold out, and MARC does not run on weekends. Didn’t even try on Saturday, watched on TV instead.

  283. This post would be laughable if it weren’t so sad that people actually believe this. I was at the rally and standing right around the intersection of 7th st and independence, and it was utterly packed. Thanks to the Mythbusters experiment, I know that I was approximately in the very middle of the crowd. In addition, there were at least 3 more rows of jumbotrons behind me, stretching approximately 3-4 blocks more of densely packed crowds and an additional 1-2 of sparse crowds. This picture shows the Rally to Restore Sanity crowd ending well before 7th st. Utterly false. Just wanted to post this so that people that actually care about, you know, facts, would know the truth. I know this post won’t convince the person that posted this.

  284. I’m sorry you or someone else felt the need to doctor the photo. I promise you… the Capitol building is 3x as wide as it is tall, not the skinny squareish thing in the picture on the right.

    http://www.visitingdc.com/capitol/capitol-building-picture.htm

Honestly, do we really need to have size contests? Are we 13? PLEASE watch this… it was the whole reason for the rally:

    http://www.visitingdc.com/capitol/capitol-building-picture.htm

“If we amplify everything, we hear nothing.”
“The press is our immune system–if it overreacts to everything, we actually get sicker [...]”

I don’t care if Beck’s rally had 6 million people and I don’t care if Stewart’s rally had 30. I went to the latter because I think his message is pure and important.

  285. Err, here’s the video I meant to link to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXmbzLI3pnk

  286. bg,

I am not sure why you doubt my being there, but the photos you provide show exactly what I was talking about. Look at the 2nd photo down. Look at how much grass you can see on the lawn to the south of the row of trees. Look at the 3rd photo down. That is taken from fair ways up the reflecting pool, so it is quite near the front. I count at least 4 lawn chairs. I can see ground. You could easily walk between those rows of people. The Stewart crowd was packed in a lot tighter. That is, admittedly, a more subjective point than the larger issue of the photo not showing the actual size of the crowd and the map being deliberately misleading. I thought I would offer my experience as one the apparently few observers of both rallies.

Now, I do wonder why you would assume I would want to slant this in any way. As I mentioned, I attended both rallies. What makes you assume I have any interest in the Stewart rally being bigger? I hope you are not one of those people that assumes if you are open minded and interested in discounting obvious biases, that you must be liberal.

  287. No American should take pride in the kind of negativity and hatred that is spewed on ALL of these boards. Right or left – it really doesn’t matter. Almost all of these posts on all of these blogs make me wonder what kind of country I’m living in these days, and make me wonder what the hell kind of person you really are inside. Clearly, most of you have completely lost control of your emotions. You need to get it together and hold yourself to some sort of reasonable behavioral standard, one that you should rightfully expect of others in return. And if you need to be the “bigger person” and show respect first, so be it. It’s not like it’s the end of the world to have an ounce of personal maturity. Until I don’t have to hear this crap anymore, until I can actually take pride in being in this democracy WITH YOU, I’m not voting for anyone.

  288. Wow, if you are going to post comparison photos, you need to make the scale the same, and not simply declare the crowds end where the picture ends. This fails on both levels. You can tell by simply looking at the trees that the Beck rally photo is zoomed in more, and therefore looks larger. Also, you clearly see that the crowds thin out at the beck rally at the WWII memorial (http://thereaganwing.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/glenn-beck-rally-2.jpg), but the area circled is about a third larger than that. In the Stewart photo, the crowds are still densely packed where the photo ends (not to mention it cuts off the entire area behind the closed sections) http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2010/10/30/stewart_colbert_rally_aerial_1_620x350.JPG

oh my, wonder why there’s been no word of this via the MSM, come to think on it, not much about the rally that i know of, but then again, i not only don’t have cable, but wouldn’t watch cable news even if i did..

Jon Stewart gets laughs, but now the joke is on Obama

[As you would expect from a political whoop de do whipped up by comedian Jon Stewart, some members of the crowd at the "Rally to Restore Sanity" last weekend were in on the joke. They held up signs reading "I have a sign" and "Hyperbole is literally killing America." However, there was plenty more unintentional irony. Signs attacking Bush and making accusations of racism were too numerous to count. One man even walked around the crowd wearing a business suit and a sandwich board reading: "HIRE ME. ASK FOR A RESUME. YES I AM VOTING FOR OBAMA IN 2012."

A guy in a suit and a sandwich board looking for a job pretty much summarizes the state of the nation since President Obama was elected in 2008 under a banner of Hope and Change. His personal charisma and the convenient bogey-man of an unpopular departing administration helped him inspire millions of voters, young and old, black and white, rural and urban, to get behind his cause, and in many cases, to enter the political process for the first time. He talked about civility, moderation, and a return to a cooperative bipartisan political process.

We offer congratulations to Comedy Central for its successful publicity stunt.
But it seems inescapable from the show on the Mall that Obama's legions have mostly returned to gratuitous gibes and political cynicism. And why shouldn't they? Obama's administration is now a big heap of apologies and excuses. He inherited a poor economy but offered no real solutions, just failed Keynesian stimulus polices that have never worked. He pushed a health care bill through Congress over massive, sustained public opposition, based on closed-door deals of doubtful integrity and before anybody had enough time to actually read and understand it. That he would go on Stewart's comedy news show last week and feign outrage over this process -- his process -- is telling. That he would use the familiar phrase "heckuva job" to describe the work of his economic team is even more telling.]

    oh yes, it’s MIRROR TIME!!

what do i have to do to make you comprehend??

in viewing pix of both rallies it clearly shows a larger GB crowd.. ergo.. if the lowest estimate was only 87,000 for GB, then how many could have been in attendance at the JS/SC rallies??

    oh forget it..

one cannot force a Jon Stewart fan to comprehend”

  306. These comments are hilarious. I especially enjoyed bg’s attempt at proving his supreme intelligence while demonstrating otherwise. To bg: I pray that you are a troll, trolling every visitor to this ridiculous post. In that sense, you are the clear winner in this trolling competition. If you aren’t a troll, we will see what you have to say on Wednesday… but on Wednesday you will still be as illiterate as you are today. Sorry. I can’t change that.

    thank you Margaret #328

didn’t think the picture Ann provided could be topped, but yours
certainly did.. fact is, anyone who has eyes can clearly see the reality..

at any rate, all i really just came back
in here for is to write the following..

you know what, we’re all pathetic..

thousands of people are being enslaved, slaughtered &/or starved in Ambassador Clooney’s neck of the woods, namely Africa.. and we’re here quibbling over how many pathetic people attended a pathetic rally.. *sigh*

may God Help US, as we seem
    quite unable to help ourselves..

like i always say, truth always reveals itself, always..

  311. Wow. Name-calling, bad grammar and spelling, fear-mongering Colbert would be proud of, and self-righteousness of televangelistic proportions. Yep, conservatism is safe.

  313. And yet – the Record breaking Metro Ridership 800,000 + was broken on Saturday, Oct. 30th – surpassing the previous record in 1991 for the Desert Storm Rally.
Where s the record – or number of riders from D.C. Metro during Glenn Beck’s Honor Rally.
    Not even a BLIP inbetween.

  314. My comment was @274, who did I threaten?

Militant Conservative, I’m quite sure the only thing that could affect your mood is a tranquilizer. I’m sorry I can’t you any, you need them.

By the way, just a heads-up: getting on the Internet and posting threatening chest-beating tough-guy rhetoric from the safety of your barcalounger might be one of the more pathetic acts of the modern age.

Now then, guess your support squad’s did not show up on election night to teach us a lesson. WHOOSE ASS GOT SPANKED???!!!! THIS was an electorial event that has not happened in 70 years!!
I don’t doubt you can get people to show up when you yell free $hit. Try getting them to show up on thier own dime aka (TPM). It’s going to get worse too.

    Oh and Sucktackular
Whatever you do on your own time is your business.
BG is a regular hear you are not. I know who the TROLL is, its not BG.

  315. bg,

Actually, I was posting the aerial photo to show how many more people showed up on the 30th. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to DC, but if you have, you know that a sparsely packed lawn at the Lincoln Memorial is nothing compared to the swarm covering nearly half the Capitol-Washington Monument side of the mall nearly *half an hour before* the rally even started.

must have been the HUGE crowd that showed up to vote HUH. You Libterds are just laughable. Yet again you prove your pathetic smoke and mirrors lies by the turnout to defeat your pathetic socialist propagandist asses. Have a nice time in make believe, this is the real word and your utopia is not in it. powder is dry.
