How refreshing. Anderson Cooper proved last night that it is still possible for the state-run media to nail corrupt democrats when they want to. Cooper made a fool of corruptocrat Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson who funneled scholarship cash to family members and friends.
This comes via Anderson Cooper 360 Review blog:
Anderson Cooper 360 Review Blog posted these devastating segments from the interview:
* Johnson’s refrain throughout the whole interview is that she didn’t know she was doing anything wrong and now she’s trying to correct her mistake. And as I listen, I very much want to give her the benefit of the doubt…but she is making it so hard!
* Anderson tries to bring home the point that obviously someone on her staff must have known about the rules because family members signed the forms, denying they were related.
* Johnson: “Anderson, I have acknowledged that I was negligent. I have acknowledged that I made a mistake. When it was called to my attention, I tried to correct it. I know you want you to make a scandal out of this, but I can’t help you. All I can do is tell you the truth.”
* Our anchor: “Well, I think you have done enough in terms of making it a scandal. I’m trying to figure out how it happened. And you say you take responsibility.” I believe “oh, snap!” is the phrase you’re looking for.
* I like how Anderson’s mind is completely boggled that the congresswoman didn’t know what she did was ethically wrong. You know he just wants to be all, “duh, lady!”
* You think things are bad now, well, then Johnson claims she doesn’t know if the kids lied, because she doesn’t know if they saw the forms. To which Anderson replies, um, they signed the forms.
* Johnson: “Well, you have seen more than I have, Anderson.” Our anchor: “You haven’t looked into this at all?” Johnson: “I don’t have the forms, the records. The records are missing from my office.” You have got to be kidding me. Don’t worry, people. They looked for them!
* This woman knew she was on CNN, right? And she knew the topic she would be discussing? A member of your United States Congress, ladies and gentlemen! Weep now and get it over with.
* This interview was very well-done. Good research. Mostly nice job by Anderson, though as I said last night, he needs to be more careful not to talk over guests. Of course, I’ll take Interrupty Anderson over Asleep-At-The-Wheel Anderson any day.
Busted. This crook needs to go.
Nice job, Anderson Cooper.

I lived, conducted academic research and worked in Eastern Europe for around six years (former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and former Soviet Union) and this was the legacy of communism. Scholarships and academic careers were passed down from father to son, mother to daughter, etc. Eventually you end up with nepotism that resembles something like the most corrupt aristocracies in Europe at its worst. And these people (Eastern and Western bloc communists) claim that they stand up for the little guy.
Keep in mind that with al-BamaCare the same thing will take root in medicine as well.
This system needs to be uprooted and placed into the fire. It is of no use to anyone.

I do think there is a point to be made of racism coming from the Obama administration in that only black democrats appear to be singled out. People like Barney Frank and all the friends of Angelo at Countrywide got special loan deals without any official contempt from ethics panels. The corruption in government is very broad, but the prosecution of ethics violations is racially narrow.

The records are missing from her office? She seriously wants us to believe that the records are just now miraculously missing from her office? All those forms where her grandchildren and employees’ children signed a sworn statement that they were not related to her or one of her employees are MISSING?
Please.

Her excuses were pretty lame. She should have used one of the tried and true excuses that lying politicians use, like, “I was suffering from the side-effects of a medication I was taking for pain from an old war injury.”
Iconoclast commented:
She took the interview with a reliably complicit spin artist from one of the most passionate of leftist propaganda organs expecting a few floating puffball questions allowing her to continue the charade of baffled ignorance. Oooops! It would be marvelous to see these “journalists” actually *do* serious, incisive interviews routinely rather than performing as mouthpieces for their vile fellow travelers. The studio audience’s laughter as these instinctive liars tried to hide their corruption would be some seriously sweet music – especially if it were zero trying to wing it without an advance copy of the script and the ubiquitous teleprompters. I sure would have liked to have been present when he was questioned on his moot court brief. Probably he was “deemed to pass.”
kato commented:
She probably could have said that there are so many different last names her family that she just forgot she was related to those children.

But, but, Anderson this is what we ‘rats do. What do you think health-care reform was or the stimulus? Pull your head out son and get with the program. The Democratic Party is about redistributing wealth, it’s what we do.

OT.. ps: “Senator Obama said ‘I’ve been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.’”
btw.. that her case just scratches the surface of the corruption of power that
has been going on throughout the nation is beyond speculation at this point..

If she had appropriated the money directly from the taxpayers, she would be given the usual pass. But she had to pay back the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which, pardon the pun, changes the complexion of the matter.

This issue makes me sick. She stole money & gave to her family and they did not even live in her district. I lost my job of 18 years to Nepotism; it is a nasty, nasty jolt. I was grown. This happened to CHILDREN who studied hard and played by the rules. This beastly hag should be jailed.

Re. Johnson’s being thrown to the complicit media wolves for a reason – maybe multiple reasons.
1. Distraction # 2,568,423 in the ongoing series of the administration’s sleight-of-hand s.o.p.
2. Ms. Johnson may have (for some ungodly reason) denied a major supporter of the administration’s kid a scholarship she was ordered… um…. asked….. er…. encouraged to and gave it to one of her family members instead.
3. To use the racial term, Rep. Johnson may simply be a ‘token’ gesture from the administration to try and say “see, we really are trying to clean up things”.
Dave-O commented:
When she says that she is going to make things right – why didn’t Anderson Cooper follow up on that – exactly “how” is she going to make things right? Is she going to reimburse the Foundation for 100% of the scholarship money?
was a crime committed here? Is there going to be ANY sort of criminal investigation? Clearly there was misrepresentation on the scholarship forms – perhaps others (like a prosecutor) might call it fraud – but funds were misappropriated and misrepresentations were made, etc. –
where does it go from here?
Anderson Cooper? hello??
Patman commented:
That was painful.
Granny commented:
Dave-O, each of those individuals who applied for a scholarship had to sign a form each year stating that they were not relatives or someone else ineligible. So each and every one of those friends & relatives who received a scholarship from her committed fraud every single year they got the scholarship. It is my understanding from articles earlier in the week that these recipients were/are all between the ages of 19-26.
Rightly, not only should Johnson be brought up on ethics charges, each and every recipient (many of whom did not even live in her Congressional district!) should be prosecuted for fraud. Every one of them! Just like your child or my child would be. Just think of all those thousands of young people in her district who could have been greatly helped by these scholarships!
Barrymac83 commented:
when i first read about this , it pissed me off . after hearing this woman’s explaination and attitude , i think they should go after her legally.my question is ” Did the caucus know about this and and look the other way?” or do they write off on this kind of thing

Granny you militant you, I agree completely. After listening to her it’s apparent that what she did was no big deal. Lying and cheating is business as usual. She seemed incredulous that he would even question her integrity. NEWSFLASH, the problem with 90% of Congress is they have no integrity, none, zero, zilch, nada, none.
bigkahuna commented:
I was waiting for ole Cooper to yell Liar liar , pants on fire.
I dont know if there was a follow up discussion after she hung up but that was ridiculous. They had to apply, they had to read it, they had to sign it. If they didnt then somebody, maybe her since she is taking full responsibility, falsified these documents. They in many cases it seems inelligible by not being a district resident as well as a relative. This was fraud…She should be investigated and booted if not jailed.
What a lame excuse that was…and a lame excuse for a public servant. She sounded mentally deficient. I guess that makes them head of the line for election in the liberal world.
Kevin P commented:
She’s going to make it right – so that makes it OK? How will you make it right for the kids that played by the rules and were denied the scholarships and maybe weren’t able to attend the brainwa… I mean the university they wanted to attend?
You can’t make it right. That’s what’s so bad about doing wrong.
Granny commented:
Yup, about some things I can be pretty militant Neomom. I raised 4 kids, most of their lives as a single parent – and they all went to college. There were 3 of us in college at the same time at one point. Those scholarships she was giving out were pretty small – about $1200 I think – but I cannot tell you what one of those would have meant to my girls as they struggled to get themselves and each other through school. I’m sure she has thousands and thousands of kids in her Congressional district in just about the same situation my kids were in who really needed that money!

If this was a fox news reporter questioning her, the NAACP would be crying racism! Anderson Cooper will be taken to the woodshed after this interview, and have to be “reeducated” to spew the party line. Maybe just maybe CNN would get people to watch if they didn’t spew out 99% of the time DNC talking points.
Stuart commented:
The problem is that the instances of unlawful and frankly treasonous behavior are so numerous, so broad, and so egregious, that in order for a new congress to properly cover all of the offenses the would have time for nothing else.
Walk up to a store widow and smash it, and you will likely get arrested. Do the same as a member of a mob and you stand a good chance of getting away with it.
That is what the Democrat party has become, a mob, organized crime.
pm commented:
Anderson could have done more to point out to her how unethical it was and how ridiculous it is that someone in her position can claim to be so clueless. She didn’t squirm enough for me.
How can anyone have any confidence in her? She, and others like her, only teach our young people that unethical and fraudulent activity is okay. She should be packing her bags today and going home.
The same holds true for the one who sits in the White House (when he’s not on vacation or on the golf course). Once I learned about the way he’d conducted his early campaigns and acquired his Hyde Park mansion – not to mention attending Wright’s church of perverted Christianity – it was clear he had neither the character nor the judgment to hold a position of power; or be a role model for the next generation.
This is so incredibly damaging to our society. We can’t afford to overlook or diminish its affect on us all.
The call is greater than many might imagine that we have to heed Glenn Beck’s call to restore honor and integrity both in our own lives and in those who would lead our nation.
And it has to start now.

Cooper also had a long segment on the Johnson scandal on Monday night. A couple of reasons why Eddie Bernice isn’t getting the kid glove treatment for her scandal by CNN and the other big media outlets, as opposed to how they’re loathe to really grill other CBCers in trouble like Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters:
– Waters and Rangel are high-profile caucu members, while Johnson is virtually unknown outside of the Dallas area (well, at least until now);
– She’s from a Red State, which means there’s not a real power structure supporting her locally, the way New York Democrats back Rangel or California Dems back Maxine. Plus she’s done nothing shrilly left-wing loopy to draw out-of-state support, the way her colleague down in Houston, Shelia Jackson Lee, has done;
– Even for the liberals at CNN, there’s a certain gag response level to all these scandals. They’re willing to not delve deeply into the Rangel or Waters kerfuffles to help the Democrats’ cause, but at least in Anderson’s case, he’s not going to the mat again to help out some corrupt congresswoman he had never heard of until the Dallas Morning News’ story broke last week, and from a state where he rarely visits, as opposed to the New York-based Rangel or the L.A.-base Waters. Johnson gets thrown under the bus to justify leaving Charlie and Maxine in control of the steering wheel.

This congresscrook knows how the game is played. If this lame excuse isn’t sufficient, it’ll be time to play the ever-reliable race card.
If Al Sharpton can get away with perpetrating a racist hoax and go on to become a civil-rights spokesman and a media talking head, then a two-bit black grifter can cover up a $30K “mistake.” A RINO will end up apologizing to her before any of them investigate her.
Someone should really find out what those Republican “priorities” are. Hugh Hewitt tried pumping John Boehner on that subject the other day, and Boehner was vague and noncommital.

I cannot understand what she was so busy doing that she would NOT have had the time to understand what was going on. She and everybody else in Congress have been busy voting for bills that they didn’t read…so reading bills cannot have been an obstacle, and voting takes only 45 minutes or so per vote. So her “I was pretty busy on other things” argument pretty much is like water on sand…gone in a hurry.
The only good thing about this is that it makes Rep. Waters look like a Sunday School teacher.
