First Lady Michelle Obama reveals some requirement of the new Health Care law that seemed to have been hidden in its 2,000+ pages. Nancy Pelosi famously said “We have to pass the bill to see what is in the bill.” Well, now we are finding out little gems like this.

I’ve been a paramedic for almost 20 years now. I’ve trained as a nurse at one point, too. I have massive experience in the psychiatric sector simply because a very dear friend of mine went through the psycho-mill for more than 6 years of his life. And the one thing I’ve learned from all of this is:
Pills are not the answer.
Prescriptions are not the solution.
Over the years I gained weight, of course, since most of my work was done sitting. As a web programmer, server admin and later head of an IT department I sat around a lot. Sure I had the army, where was still in what we call “militia” (lit. Miliz), I was working as a voluntary paramedic, but all of that didn’t prevent me from putting on significant fat.
The reasons?
Oh, simply sitting and eating.
Eventually I had enough. I looked at myself in the mirror and was like “What the heck! Who’s that tub of lard!”
What did I do? I started to work out, ate less, and lost weight. So far I have lost almost 28 kilograms, which are almost 61 pounds.
I didn’t take one pill for that.
I had to defeat all those little devils that tempted me with all the good food that I love. I worked hard. In the beginning I felt close to giving up very often. But eventually the body got used to it and wanted more.
I’m still working on it. I had a few rebounds, but never did I even remotely get close to my original weight.
So, dear Michelle Obama, you can take your prescriptions and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine.
You want kids to lose weight?

“popularity” to make the general public like the emetic they are forcing down our throats. Her plan all along is to be a pusher of the “only we elites know what’s best for you, stupid” philosophy.
Why does anyone believe a woman who said she was not proud of her country until her husband was nominated for the Dem party presidential candidate? Why would anyone listen to a woman who spends hundreds of thousands of dollars, much out of the taxpayer’s kitty, for her world tour and Spanish Cordoba summer excursion? He did admit to cocaine use Opus. The thing is, if he were a member of our military he would be forever forbidden from having anything at all to do with our nuclear arsenal after even a single cocaine use. No such thing as a reformed coke addict – and just one use is enough to make you an addict.

You are 100% right, but there’s a background here that throws common sense out the window. We were out of the USA for nearly twenty years, just stopping in for vacations. So, the sea change in American attitudes about medication has been shocking to us, while most Americans didn’t notice the creeping changes in expectations.
It’s now standard talk to refer to “being off one’s meds” “go see your therapist.” We were in line at the PET store and the woman behind us snarled at her dog, “Get a chill pill!”
Huh? The old days it was simply, “Calm down. Get a grip.” Who needed pills to impose self-control? Not now.
Michelle Obama is moving in at an opportune time when people have been softened up for this sort of thing, and after sugar-saturated lives, and conditioned to favor “easy” solutions, are desperate to accept ANYTHING including drugs to lose weight. Especially drugs, because they seem to be no apparent effort – no sweaty hard exercise, no eating changes, just same old and let the drug do the work. The “Oh, by the way, side effects are …….” will be mentioned in insignificant tones.
The schools routinely tell parents their boys need to be on Ritalin, the doctors don’t even BLINK and hand it out – since WHEN has anyone seen a DOCTOR take a plumber’s diagnosis for recommending medication, but will write out a powerful drug long term prescription on a know-nothing TEACHER’s recommendation, and not even examine the child? Because of this travesty, this failure of the medical profession to challenge this, Ritalin has become a BLIGHT on the next generation, destroying the futures of millions of children, especially boys.
The medical system in the USA right now is loaded with social engineers and busybodies in doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses, with pre-formed expectations. They have their list: pregnancy, parental abuse and sex they look for first, THEN they check the inflamed appendix. The Regressive Left has been decades into creating the circumstances, the Democrats have provided the legislation to micromanage individuals, starting with the children.

wanumba, the funny thing about Ritalin is that there was a HUGE flap over it in the late 70s and the early 80s – to the point that it was taken off the market for awhile. I was flabbergasted to see it come back around with the same old use.
Parents need to know that ritalin can be horribly dangerous to your child. One of my friend’s children was put on ritalin “by the school” supposedly because he had ADD/ADHD. When I found out I encouraged my friend to take his child to a specialist. Turned out that the child did not have ADD, he had petit mal epilepsy and the 3 years of ritalin had given him permanent heart damage. NEVER let anyone give your child this kind of meds without an extremely thorough exam!

The dems must be really desperate over this election. Apparently they have decided to unleash MeMeMeShelle on an unwitting public. She is going to campaign for those dem candidates that the White House has determined are worthy of their notice and assistance. They can’t support all the dems in need. There are too many of them!
So, just as FLOTUS is engaging in her version of medical malpractice by recommending drugs for children with less than ideal BMI’s, the White House finds it necessary to engage in Triage. They have so many sick dem districts and only so much money, time and energy available that they will have to let a lot of them fall by the wayside.
Oh well, after all, they’ve already served their purpose, right?

1. My kid has a high BMI because she has a thick bone structure and an excellent muscle mass. She’s NOT fat. Her doc has declared her in excellent health. BMI is a notoriously unreliable measure, anyway.
2. For those posters who have said “pills are bad,” I can agree that DIET pills are bad. But you’ve gone overboard to include other kinds of medications. Which would you rather do: Take a pill–or have an expensive and painful surgery, or get sick, or die? Many of the illnesses that killed people a couple generations ago are now treatable or even preventable with medication: diabetes, heart disease, stroke, asthma.

Many Americans are over-weight. Many of us would benefit from a better diet and exercise, and some of us may need some strong encouragement to adjust our present life style. All true, and not happy to be told. Just the same, we need to hear it…
But not from the government. Government should not be intruding between us and our doctors. This kind of policy initiative expands government, reduces our freedom, and further diminishes our sense of personal responsibility.

Here’s a dirty little secret concerning kids and pills. As a Teacher I am privy to the records of my children. Many are prescribed Adderol, ridilin , etc. What I am seeing is Parents that take their kids to counselors, on the tax payers dime, and using a set of instructions provided by other parents share a list of made up symptoms with that counselor. The counselor sends the child to a psychiatrist, on the tax payers dime, and gets the prescription meds. The parents then sell the meds or use them themselves. There are children that legitimately need these drugs. Sometimes their parents steal those too. I see it everyday, I mean Everyday.

Agreed… and I am married to a retired MD.
As for drugs … I remember being called in because our daughter was “disrupting” the class. She would stare out the window and not pay attention. They wanted to medicate her, not knowing my husband was a doctor. We refused, but agreed to have her tested… she tested off the charts!!!! Her problem – she was bored!! Many years later she is a successful professional, wife… etc. Do not, I repeat, do not let others dictate to you.
