You just knew these freaks were going to jump in on this goat rodeo.

The Westboro cult members are going to torch the Koran on Saturday… and the US flag.
The KC Star reported:

Topeka’s Westboro Baptist Church announced tonight that it plans to burn the Qur’an and an American flag on Sept. 11, though the exact time and location haven’t been determined, a church spokeswoman said.

The burning would occur the same day that a Florida pastor had threatened to burn Qur’ans, which drew condemnation from President Obama, religious leaders and others.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, who announced Westboro Baptist’s plan, said they don’t think that pastor, Terry Jones, will carry out the burning.

Westboro Baptist Church has received international condemnation for its protests at the funerals of gay people and U.S. servicemembers. Church members burned a Qur’an two years ago in Washington, D.C.

    *sigh*

    ==

  2. If they really wanted to make a statement they could torch themselves.

  3. Well…… I guess that they figure that burning the American flag along with the koran will neutralize the hatred from the Islamofascists and protect them from retribution.

  4. On drudge there is news that two more churchs plan to burn the koran Saturday. Will the Obama administration reach out to those groups too?

  5. I’ve found that when my toddler acts up the best thing to do is ignore him.

  6. People are upset. Some people don’t handle stress very well. The Resident and his elitist cronies don’t understand the conflagration they set in motion. Either it’s defused by wise action from adults (which we don’t currently have in the government) or it runs its course.

  7. We need a college professor (or some other idiot) to tell us why burning a Koran isn’t a form of performance art.

    If immersing a crucifix in urine or putting animal dung on an image of the Virgin have artistic value, and phony sophisticates are supposed to revel in all sorts of “subversive” messages, just think of the aesthetic possibilities of burning a Koran.

    The grandstanding politicians. The herds of journolists. The wacked out religious cult. This is worthy of Heironymous Bosch. Where are our art professors?

  8. How’s this for an idea?
    We do not give these loons 1 more minute of undeserved attention?

  9. Everyone!

    Rrun over to your window!

    Throw it open!

    And scream, “I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore!”

    Do you feel better, now?

  10. They did the same thing back in 2008 and nobody paid attention. Now that the media is trying to create chaos it’s a big deal.

  11. My comment at #8 is sarcastic, but think about it:

    If the person burning the Koran was a NYC sodomite who Artforum and the Village Voice declared to be one of our great subversive artists, and the alleged artist said he was burning the Koran to make a statement about the treatment of the gay, lesbian and transgendered community in the Muslim world, the reaction of the politicians and journolists would be different than what we’re seeing here.

    Obama would probably buy off the artist by giving him a big government arts grant so that the artist could produce anti-American and anti-Christian art instead with a subsidy from the American taxpayer. The art professors would swoon.

    The serious messge: Liberalism is utter fraudulence.

  12. Praise God for weirdos. They always said we are peculiar people.

    As for the building of the Victory Mosque and taking into consideration that Rauf is a Sufi (by name only), I leave the following quote by one whose wisdom has transcended religious dogma and race and who is not a Sufi by name only but one whom has been transformed by the touch of God.

    “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.”

    This is the place where Rauf, needs to build the Mosque but he does not understand it yet.

  13. We live in a society which demands, for the sake of societal cohesion and liberty, that everyone must endure some insult, some word or action that he finds intolerable. Our Constitution and our whole political history makes it clear that we must err on the side of Liberty, or our Liberty is an illusion.

    The call on the Left is for the GZ Mosque to be built in the name of “religious freedom”. Let’s see how Islam handles itself with a little pluralistic expression, first? ‘Kay? I want to see Muslims flocking to the TV to endorse this Koran burning as emblematic of the Liberty enjoyed in the West. I want to hear them say that they left places like Iran, Syria, and Pakistan because they rejected the violent theocracy that Islam spawned in their home countries, and wanted to live among free men, and not as slaves, which Islamic law requires them to be.

    Third world societies resolve these conflicts through brutal repression. The “Leader”, the “Council”, the “Soviet”, the “Imams” decide what expression is allowed, and what will be crushed. They maintain societal cohesion through the systematic repression of ideas and expression. Liberty does not exist in these places.

    Now we find ourselves entangled in a dance of death with these people, as we have invited them into our Nation without the slightest concern for their ability to accept the concepts of liberty and pluralism. After decades and generations in this country, where are the moderate Muslims? I don’t see them. Where are the Muslims who speak out for the Constitution? They don’t, because to them the Constitution is a document of the infidel. The Koran is Alpha and Omega.

    The burning of the Koran is not the important part of this. The reaction to it is what will tell us all we need to know about the Muslims in our midst. The right to insult or desecrate is not what defines America. The forbearance of political or popular violence against those actors who shock and offend us, that is the sine qua non of American liberty. If they don’t get it yet, they never will and our Republic is in grave peril is we do not recognize this.

  14. You do realize, don’t you, that Dove Outreach is every bit as much a cult as Westboro Baptist? You do realize, don’t you, that Dove Outreach is joined at the hip with Westboro Baptist?

    Why, then, are you defending the actions of Terry Jones while at the same time criticizing the actions of Fred Phelps?

    They are both kooks, and cult leaders. As conservatives, we should be ignoring both; as Christians we should be disowning both.

  15. What the hell, burn every building that houses a quran.

  16. I urge every reasonable American to attend these Quran burnings – and be sure to bring your fire extinguisher!

    If they can light the bonfire because of their freedom of speech, then we can exercise our freedom of speech by putting it out!

  17. Just waiting until the Phelps clan needs to conduct a funeral…

    Interesting. From where I sit scripture is True, All things work together for good for Those who are called according to His Purpose. God, uses the saved and the unsaved alike, to fulfill His Purposes. I may disagree with their teachings but my focus is not about the things that divide but to behold the power of God at work. That is my focus. At least there are some that will take a bold stand for God and Liberty as We All so much enjoy, and IS, the Liberty we find in God and in our country.

  19. Glenn Beck is a Mormon. Now we should not join him or even listen to him?

  20. Gateway was just defending Westboro’s friend Terry Jones yesterday for his Koran-burning plan.

    Now Gateway says that Westboro are “freaks” just for burning Korans?

    Wow, Gateway is really confused.

    It would seem that Gateway supports Westboro and their plan to burn Korans just like he supports Mr. Jones.

  21. @JohnStanford We never defended Terry Jones burning of the koran. We commented on the REACTION to the provocative act, why the REACTION is being ignored and why burning korans could be seen as necessary in exposing radical Islamists, but is obviously not a great idea in the overall fight against Islamic extremism because it’s nothing more than a spiteful act. You’ve missed the point entirely. Go back and read.

    Support for Terry Jones is equivalent to support for Fred Phelps. They endorse each other, and protest together.

    Indeed, God works for the good – and His purposes – in all things. That doesn’t free us from our responsibility to bear spiritual fruit in everything we do.

    This stunt is being carried out in the name of this “church” (actually: cult); therefore, it is being done ostensibly in the name of Christ. If you can demonstrate any of the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control – being borne through this event, then you will win my support of both the event, and its leader.

    Otherwise, I’ll stand by my assertion that as Christians we should disown both the event and its perpetrator.

    Reading over the body of work here at GP covering this issue, I cannot square your editorial viewpoint with what has been written. to the contrary, while the stories have certainly decried the hypocritical reaction to the event, the coverage has sounded at times even jubilant at the prospect of the event taking place. I see little-to-no editorializing regarding the impropriety of the event, from either a political or a religious perspective.

    I’m not saying that I think either you or Jim is particularly in favor of the event, but rather that John Stanford’s assessment of the editorial viewpoint of the coverage is much more accurate than your above description.

    Chip, lets get to the point. Whether you agree or not, this act and these messengers, are waking us to the fact, that the Koran is the cause and is responsible for 911 and the murder of thousands of people of all nationalities, and now they want to build a Victory Mosque. Remember? Remember Chip?
    This Message is being heard around the world. Let it be and let God.

  26. There are many silent cheering people who endorse the burning of the Koran around the world. It is time the sleeping giant awoke and stood up for Christians and Jews everywhere, because the silence is deafening.

    Whether these churches are filled with those who follow the truth of the Bible or not, God has always used many who would not fit the bill of a perfect Christian to do His work. Exposing Islam and waking people out of their slumber to the truth is what is important here. Christians the world over are praying to God to save them from the wrath of muslims in their lands – take Africa, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, and on and on. Perhaps God is hearing their prayers….perhaps it is time the U.S. wakes up to the truth and to who they should be standing up for – not muslims in muslims nations who follow the Koran…..when Americans leave, they still follow Islam.

  27. To Every Thing There is a Season – Ecclesiastes 3. 1-8

    To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
    A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
    A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
    “A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
    A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
    A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
    A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
    A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

  28. Westboro defies the political spectrum. Are they so far right that even America isn’t “righteous” enough for them so they hate it, too? Or are they so far left that, among everything and everyone else that lefturds hate (which is most everything and everyone), they even hate gays, too? Perplexing…

  29. Dear Westboro nutjobs

    Don’t forget to use a lot of gasoline. And I mean A LOT. Use a whole truckload. Only then will it burn properly.

    Ok, so it might also blow up but eh…

    ————————————-

    Lots of European islamo-critics are cheering on it. The comments I’ve seen are largely positive. The vast majority seems to support it.

    I’m not surprised though.

    When it comes to islamisation Europe is 20 years ahead of the US. We see how bad it can be every day.

    Let me get a few examples.

    On October 10 we have elections in Vienna. Now the People’s party, the so called coservatives, have banners for it in Turkish.

    Haribo is now producing their goldbears in a halal (following islamic rules) version.

    Some German nutjob wants 500,000 immigrants more per year.

    And Moscow just had a muselmaniac massprayer where thousands of muselmaniacs invaded the streets. This “prayer” (a clear display of power and for intimitation) happened a day after a muselmaniac suicide attack on a market in Wladikawkas, the capital of the Christian North-Ossetia. At least 16 people were murdered and 120 wounded.

    Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDoDoasZmpQ

    Comments on the video are interesting. Lots of angry people.

  30. AuntieMadder, the freaks at Westboro Church are not so far Right, they are so far LEFT. Phelps is a registered Democrat that did fund-raisers for Al Gore.

    The media continues to try to make him a RightWing religious nutcase, but he is clearly a LeftWing religious nutcase.

    I hope they are careful when they burn their Koran and American Flag. It would be a shame if their compound caught fire and burned to the ground… with all of their members inside.

    I have to laugh. I just thought how funny it would be that God, would choose for you to be in a bunker, fighting for your life as the enemy is advancing and the guy next you happens to be from Westboro church, fighting along side you and God hears your prayer and burns him up. Poetic justice.

  32. Yesterday there was a suicide car bombing in Russia in which 17 people were killed and a whole lot more wounded. Gosh, I hope there were no korans in that car. They might’ve been burned.

  33. That’s really funny, Stanley, but I was being serious.

    But to your insipid point, I would NEVER be in a foxhole with one of the cowards from Westboro. They hate the military and would NEVER be fighting on the same side as I am.

    Never say never unless your God. I am sure there are witnesses here, that can testify that they have been put in situations they never expected or wanted, that confronted their own demons. But hey, I feel you and I understand. Okay? There’s a lot of pruning in the coming months I must say, don’t you agree?

    ………….

    Totally agree. If they were REALLY upset about “gays” they’d be parked at the gates of San Francisco, in sackcloth and ashes, with signs like “REPENT BEFORE THE NEXT BIG ONE” not at soldiers’ funerals, disrupting the ceremonies.

    Look at what they DO, not what they SAY. They are hard LEFT, anti-war, soldiers’ family harrassers to undermine support for the military, cynically using the guise of “Baptist church” to evoke a negative reaction against “Christians.”
    Simple.

    Haven’t seen them so much since Obama became POTUS, have we?
    If they want to suddenly insert themselves by grandstand Koran burning, it’s to encourage harrassment against the Christian Church, which they hate. Total, manipulative frauds. They provide their theatre, the LEft media provides the exposure.

  36. Ah… just have the FBI pay them a visit over burning the flag.

  37. The muslim suicide attack in Russia was in the same region as the Beslan attack where 330 people – at least half children were slaughtered. Russia has 20 million muslims – holy cow.

  38. StarInTexas and wanumba, thank you.

    [head slap] I totally forgot about their donations to the Demonrats, the Phelps boy running for state office and their partying with fellow homophobe Al Gore. What’s worse is that it was only in the last week that a commenter here shared the following link and only a couple of days ago that I shared it with some others. Too much to keep up with sometimes.
