Castro says the Cuban Marxist model does not work.
No kidding.

It’s not like it was a secret.
The AP reported:
Fidel Castro told a visiting American journalist that Cuba’s communist economic model doesn’t work, a rare comment on domestic affairs from a man who has conspicuously steered clear of local issues since stepping down four years ago.
The fact that things are not working efficiently on this cash-strapped Caribbean island is hardly news. Fidel’s brother Raul, the country’s president, has said the same thing repeatedly. But the blunt assessment by the father of Cuba’s 1959 revolution is sure to raise eyebrows.
Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cuba’s economic system was still worth exporting to other countries, and Castro replied: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore” Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog.
He said Castro made the comment casually over lunch following a long talk about the Middle East, and did not elaborate. The Cuban government had no immediate comment on Goldberg’s account.

I believe the article also states that they are willing to let foreigners buy property in Cuba. Considering that most of the property was not theirs to begin with, it is very magnanimous of them. /sarc

It’s never worked, but the argument is always because it wasn’t done right. THIS TIME AROUND it WILL work. And then it fails. And then the next group of socialists step up to the plate to try again. And it will always continue, so long as some people want absolute power and others want everything for “free”. There’s no way to prove it doesn’t work, when the counterargument is always “we can make it work better next time”.

The Cuban Model worked if you keep in mind its purpose was to keep Fidel in power. Now that his brother is in power it’s working for Raul, but ‘not anymore’ for Fidel.

I am thinking of sending these articles to my Liberal friend who once told me Cuba was a paradise and the people escaping by boat didn’t believe in the dream. She is one of my closest friends and a loyal one, but I usually can’t stomach talking politics with her.
