The Castro Regime announced it will fire at least half a million workers by the middle of next year. The murderous regime will also allow private enterprise.
Cuba says it will fire at least half a million state workers by mid-2011 and will free up private enterprise to help them find new work – radically remaking employment on the communist island.
The layoffs will start immediately and run through the first half of next year, according to an announcement Monday by the nearly 3 million-strong Cuban Workers Confederation – the only labor union the government tolerates.
To soften the blow, it said the government would authorize simultaneous increases in job opportunities in the non-state sector, allowing more Cubans to become self-employed, to form cooperatives run by employees rather than government bureaucrats and to increase private control of state land and infrastructure through long-term leases.

Just avoiding a Soviet Style collapse. Instead they are taking a page or two out of China’s book. You might have noticed that China has more quietly turned to the “evils” of capitalism and private enterprise over the last few years too.

This is what our country desparately needs….a massive purge of people who are paid by government for gum shoe jobs that fail to yield any products or services of social value. A hard core communist like Fidel Castro now stands farther to the right than the typical republican RINO who can’t shut down any government program even if his very life depended on it.

Some news sources quote Castro as saying “the Cuban model doesn’t work for
us anymore”. I know it never worked, it is just that it took so long for
Castro’s communists to consume and destroy every asset that they could get
their hands on, and there just are no more assets to waste. So, like the
communists who run China, they faced a revolt of the soon-starving masses,
or they had to do something drastic. The pragmatic Chinese discovered
mercantilism, which to many appears like capitalism, except it means that
government allows business to pretty much do whatever it pleases as long as
government power is secure and government can opportunistically be a
parasite upon the wealth-creators in the private sector. Thus graft and
corruption becomes the primary job of a government official. Thus the
peasant farmer gets sold out to the real estate developer who makes sure all
the concrete work gets done by the company owned by the local official’s
brother.
This is not “capitalism”! As proof notice how little attention government
cares to pay to making sure the legal system functions. Further, notice
what the Chinese government spends of its trillion dollar foreign reserves:
it spends only a fraction, and what it spends it allocates to showcase
projects designed to make the government look good and to increase
government power.
So, look for Cuba’s economy to substantially grow, slow at first, but then
faster as government officials at every level learn how to milk the new system.
