It's On!… Pastor Slams "Lying Imam" – Will Proceed with Koranic Incineration

It’s on!
Pastor Terry Jones told reporters tonight that his planned bonfire is back on after he was “lied to” by a local imam. Jones said the imam told him the Ground Zero Victory Mosque would be moved… even though it is not being moved.
The torching will continue.
The AP reported:
An anti-Islamic preacher backed off and then threatened to reconsider burning the Quran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, angrily accusing a Muslim leader of lying to him Thursday with a promise to move an Islamic center and mosque away from New York’s ground zero. The imam planning the center denied there was ever such a deal.
The Rev. Terry Jones generated an international firestorm with his plan to burn the Quran on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and he has been under intense pressure to give it up. President Barack Obama urged him to listen to “those better angels” and give up his “stunt,” saying it would endanger U.S. troops and give Islamic terrorists a recruiting tool. Defense Secretary Robert Gates took the extraordinary step of calling Jones personally.
Standing outside his 50-member Pentecostal church, the Dove Outreach Center, alongside Imam Muhammad Musri, the president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, Jones said he relented when Musri assured him that the New York mosque will be moved.
Musri, however, said after the news conference that the agreement was only for him and Jones to travel to New York and meet Saturday with the imam overseeing plans to build a mosque near ground zero.
Hours later, Jones said Musri “clearly, clearly lied to us.”
Don’t expect this story to go away for at least another 48 hours.

This Florida pastor might not be the brightest bulb in the kingdom, and his motivations might be murky, and the usefulness of his tactics may be questionable … but can we honestly say that the burning of books is, on principle, an act of hatred and a sin against God? Jones is insignificant in the big picture. In the smaller view, he’s harmless to those of us who don’t part easily with our money.
His church’s Quran burning should have come and gone with little or no advertisement of out outside his church and maybe the Gainseville, FL.
You’re right in that the media blew this out of proportion. Their goal was to elevate Islam while shaming the west, Christian America in particular. With the help of the Imams Mucus and Roof-Roof, along with a possibly unwitting Jones (and maybe even the Divine), it’s backfired. Jones capitulated, but with conditions. And now we learn that his conditions weren’t met, that he was victimized by the perpetual victims known as Muslims. At least that’s how I see it.

What a curious, archaic religion Islam is, but then again, so is the Progressive faith. Subsequently, their contributions tend to be primitive, lending little value as we work through problems more resonant with complexity theory, chaos theory, post-structural systems, etc. Our President and his fellow progressives push their “progressive thought” which only would have been avant garde back in the 1930s epoch of Structuralism.
The challenge pragmatic “conservatives” (a terribly inept term, given that most of the “tea party” types here are as far from conservative as is possible) is that we have to find a way to help our 1400s Islamic brothers and 1930s Progressive sisters transcend from their obsolete hermeneutic models. Their very systems of thought lead them to problematic conclusions and our efforts (including the Koran burning) tend to not facilitate their transcendence.
If we’re going to evolve this pathetic global lot of humanity, it’s up to us tea partiers and other forward thinkers to find a way to reach back to the others and help the evolve and embrace a post-modern system of thought.

I’m afraid it’s going to take substantial irritation and disruption to move our complacent Islamic friends forward. I was surprised at the reaction of one of my Muslim friends this week to my joking about placing Winnie the Poo & Piglet Too next to the Koran on the shelf at Borders book store. Islam has problems if it is threatened by a childrens book being placed on the same shelf as “a book called the Koran” at a major chain bookstore in the Midwest USA, yet the fact that our Muslim friends treat this as an existential threat is an indication that Islam is stuck in a regressive hermeneutic state.
I firmly believe Islam has great potential for the world… as a transcendent faith in a post-structural realm. Furthermore, I would hope to see a resonance of that faith along with an evolving Christianity, Judiasm, etc. While it can be painful, we tend to do much better when we don’t get stuck in delusions of singular orders.
That said, you are correct that the Progressive Faith is quite troubled, particularly because it denies that it is a faith (pretending that it is Outside order and thus the sole interpreter of truth). That it is also centered on nihilism is quite problematic: the Discovery Channel incident was only the tip of the iceberg for our Progressive brothers. Instead of carrying through with the vision of the Left, the progressives have subverted the message and have focused on Becoming-Hatred: hatred-of-nation, hatred-of-fetus, hatred-of-success, hatred-of-majority, hatred-of-education, etc. It’s a problematic place to be as it leaves no alternative other than death, and for this reason, I believe we can understand the resonance between the Progressives and the Fundamentalist Islamists. They are the Death-Eaters of our time, those who find sadist enjoyment through the subordination and eradication of Others.
Our brothers leave no room for us. Either they reform, or they (or us) die. This goes for both mystical faiths: Progressive and Muslim.

Will we be able to get and stay motivated to do all the work that must be done, while we still can? I’m going to ask my Muslim friends if they think the Koran is a holy object, and explain what I believe about bibles. I know I’m not supposed to criticise their religion in any way, it’s too fragile. Maybe we all need to give some thought and research time to finding the best ways to communicate with these peoples that time passed by.
