Hamas kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit on June 25, 2006.
To give you some idea how far Hamas terrorists tunneled to kill and kidnap Jewish soldiers, this picture of a Gaza town was taken from that same Israeli outpost that was attacked by Hamas.
Hamas dug a 3 kilometer long tunnel under the separation fence between Gaza and Israel and behind the army post where Gilad Shalit and his fellow soldiers were stationed that morning. This photo was taken at that army post. During the morning attack, two IDF soldiers were killed and three others wounded, aside from Shalit, who himself suffered a broken left hand and a light shoulder wound after his tank was hit with an RPG. Israeli forces believe that Gilad and his captors walked back over this field and disappeared inside this Gaza town. Gilad Shalit has not been seen since that morning. This week the Hamas terrorist group released video of two terrorists threatening to kill kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
Egypt reportedly captured the Hamas intelligence chief Mohammed El Tebabshe this week. He is one of the few people who knows where kidnapped IDF corporal Gilad Shalit is being held. This may be what prompted the release of the threatening video.
Israel Matsav reported:
Egypt has captured Hamas intelligence chief Mohammed El Tebabshe. Tebabshe is one of the few people who knows where kidnapped IDF corporal Gilad Shalit is being kept.
Israeli military commentator Guy Bechor says that El Tebabshe knows where kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilar Shalit is being held as well as the full details of the Hamas missile system aimed at Israel. He said Shalit would likely be moved from his hiding place as a result of the capture.
