GOP Reps at Press Conference Demand Eric Holder Hold Investigation on Pigford Scandal (Videos)

Conservative Representatives Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Steve King (R-IA) called on the Attorney General Eric Holder to invest the Pigford Scandal.
More than 92,000 blacks have signed up for reparations from the Obama USDA after the Pigford case was extended this past year. That’s five times the number of blacks who were actually farming during the time period in question and would possibly qualify for the reparations.
Pigford v. Glickman was a class action lawsuit against the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), alleging racial discrimination in its allocation of farm loans and assistance between 1983 and 1997. The lawsuit ended with a settlement in which the U.S. government agreed to pay African American farmers $50,000 each if they had attempted to get USDA help but failed. To date, almost $1 billion has been paid or credited to the farmers under the settlement’s consent decree. Democrats want to add another $1.2 billion to the money pot and continue with the reparations.

House Republicans on Wednesday charged that a multibillion-dollar settlement with black farmers supported by the Obama administration was rife with fraud.
At a press conference in the Capitol Visitor Center, Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Steve King (R-Iowa) alleged that a $1.25 billion Agriculture Department settlement to resolve discrimination claims included individuals who were never farmers.
Bachmann said the discrimination claim process was subject to “massive and widespread fraud and abuse.” King also said he believes the Obama administration has ignored the fraud allegations surrounding the settlement.
“I think they have turned a blind eye to the fraud and corruption here,” King said.
The GOP lawmakers called on Attorney General Eric Holder to start an investigation into the settlement’s claimants to ensure they are genuine. In addition, they asked congressional leaders not to sign off on new appropriations for the settlement.

Weeks ago, I called my Congressman, a very senior Republican. I told him of my concerns for this SHAKEDOWN.
He told me that he was concerned and he added that BLACKS HAD DEFINITELY BEEN DISCRIMINATED FOR DECADES.

Maybe I am being a nitpick but “invest” ? shouldn’t the copy editor caught that simple typo? My analytical brain adjusted and filled in the correct word which would be “investigate”. I kinda wish there was another minute or two for the writer(s) to catch their breath and proof their articles. just saying…

The federal government was bending over backwards to give loans to blacks during that period, not only farm loans, but also Small Business Admin. loans. In the case of the SBA, many of those loans were NOT available to white people. In that instance, white businessmen were discriminated against. For a black applicant not to qualify for a loan his credit and personal history would have to have been truly, truly, truly horrible. The only truly, truly horrible cases did get the loans. The vast majority went almost directly into default.

Japanese Americans had to wait for over 35 years to be compensated for the losses they suffered by being forced into camps during WWII. Most of the adults died before being compensated for losing everything but one suitcase full of goods they were allowed to bring to the camps.
Their compensation was $25,000 total.
Imagine how many black farmers actually suffered any loss at all. This is an outrage.

USDA DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE! Skin color is not an issue at all. It’s no where indicated on the loan claim docs. How would anyone know?
Crops you grow and social security and acreage and yield or losses history are part of your loan claim. I know. I used to work for USDA. If you make a false claim you do not get penalized for attempted fraud like you would a regualr bank loan. If you claim a loss and a field person inspects your property and sees no losses you are only denied. The normal work load during crop harvest is high and if you pile on a huge amount of fraudulent claims on top of that then the system slows to a crawl for everyone and those who need and deserve the help will suffer waiting for a much needed low rate loan.
This is soooooo bogus. What is wrong with these people? Why so much fraud and theft of Gov funds with this admininstration?
Kudos to Bachmann and the others for having the courage to come forward and address this FRAUD. We are behind you all the way. We just can’t allow the ‘juveniles’ to run the show any longer. We need adults to take over. It’s not about party. It’s about our country being robbed.
May the light of God surround and protect you while you press on to stop the theft of our funds and country. This is no only plain WRONG but its FRAUD and should have CONSEQUENCES like fines and jail time for filing fraudulent claims. If USDA were a bank you’d be fined $250,000 and 5 years in jail for fraudulent application.

Does this kind of slovenly, ill-informed, argument work with your imbecile pals on the left?
Creating new military aircraft requires integrating complex cutting-edge technologies into a coherent package with unprecedented specifications. In the course of design and production, specs often change and bring new costs. If you want to argue about cost overruns, read up on the history of military innovation.
In any case, excessive spending in one part of the budget does not justify wasteful – and fraudulent – spending elsewhere in the budget.
Pigford is not about ‘setting right racial injustice’. That’s just plain sloppy. It’s about the cynical and fraudulent abuse of a program that was intended to compensate for racial injustice.
If you want to argue in favor of the Pigford pig-out, then man up. Make the argument. Tell us why you favor an outlandish settlement that looks even at a glance like serious criminal conduct. Perhaps you can explain to people who actually pay taxes why you personally consider 2.2 billion dollars ‘loose change’.

As recently as September 10th Obama said that the Pigford settlement was a priority of his administration. Sure it is. He wants to broom this mess as soon as possible. But this one is not going away any time soon.

On the upside, it does force the DoJ to do some work. And if they don’t, then the Repubs first order of business in January is issuing subpoenas to the entire DoJ.

Kansas #31, I’ve heard black people argue that every black descendant of slaves in America (or every black person, period) should be give something like $500,000 in cash! They claim to be half a million poorer today because of something that happened to their ancestors generations ago–ignoring the fact that family fortunes are often made and lost within three generations, and that many wealthy people were not born into wealth, and some poor people had wealthy ancestors.
Blacks in America have already been getting reparations in the form of preferential hiring etc. for a generation or so. And some of them still feel entitled to pick the pockets of white people whose ancestors had nothing at all to do with slavery or segregation, just because of the color of their skin.
