Call off the suicide bombers. The Koranic bonfire was called off.

Pastor Terry Jones canceled his “Torch the Koran” rally today.
The AP repoted:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The minister of a Florida church said he has canceled plans to burn copies of the Quran because the leader of a much-opposed plan to build an Islamic Center near ground zero has agreed to move its location. The agreement couldn’t be immediately confirmed.
The Rev. Terry Jones said Thursday that Americans oppose the mosque being built at the location and that Muslims do not want the Quran burned. He said instead of his plan to burn the books on Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11, he will be flying to New York to speak to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf about moving the mosque.
“We are, of course, now against any other group burning Qurans,” Jones said during a news conference. We would right now ask no one to burn Qurans. We are absolutely strong on that. It is not the time to do it.”

So if someone wants to have a Koranic cookout, they are warned that that activity gives license for others to do lawless things. But let the terror types burn American flags all days and shoot at and bomb Americans and that’s not provocative?
Burn the damn things and let the terror types come out. Our GI’s will handle it, they are the best.

Otto — it wasn’t to the terrorists and Muslims that this was a bad idea to support; the left would (have) used this to ramp up attacks against the right (and especially Christians); it matters little that some permanently offended people were yet again offended (big suprise! sarc) — but it was not good to have the religious right once again painted as loony radicals in the court of public opinion (remember: most people are moderates, and it is to that group you have to play)
As for the terror types: they would not be targeting GIs…they would go after civilians first and foremost; if anything, you have to act responsibly for their sakes
And this was a stupid diversion (which I’ve got my suspicions was the pastor’s game all along…with the attention); it took away from the very real problem of that mosque and creeping sharia imho. And for that I’m not to pleased with the whole state of affairs.

It doesn’t seem to me that many people are considering that the reverend was in fact being honest and communicating with God throughout the process. Now, I don’t know him from Adam and have no reason to defend him one way or the other.
Was this a publicity stunt? Probably. Has it brought the building of the GZ mosque to a new level? Absolutely.
What he has done now by calling this off at the last moment is sheer genius–the type of genius that has the potential to be expressed by God himself. The builders of the mosque have now been backed into a corner…checkmate. The good reverend has shown that once again Christian people are not afraid and will not back down unless guided by God Himself to do so. It demonstrates also the open-mindedness of the Christian faith and the willingness to hear what others have to say. If the Muslim leaders fail to comply with the relocating of the mosque, they will then demonstrate the superiority of the Christian priciples.
I am sad, however, at the demonstration of weakness by the entire rest of the world. Not saying the Koran burning should’ve happened, just saying fear of retaliation should not be the reason to call it off. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a government say, “Though we don’t like the burning of the Korans, if your people retaliate with violence it will be answered swiftly and you will come to regret the retaliation.
Khan Krum commented:
I agree with Sojourner. This isn’t over but moves the clockwork ahead a few notches to an inevitable showdown or realization. It has served to better define the issues which divide Islam and the Judeo-Christian West and it will be remembered the next time Muslims show their true nature to express their hate and violence against us. Keep your eye on Imam Rauf and Imam Obama because this has directed the spotlight more onto them vis-a-vis such issues, especially “The Ground Zero Victory Mosque to the 19 Glorious Martyrs for Islam”. Americans are a fair-minded people and will (consciously or subconsciously) expect some sort of quid pro quo for this “capitulation”. Stay tuned.

I see no evidance of a change in plans for the ground zero mosque. This is a victory for Islam and the growing power of Sharia Law to bully America. Well, the church might focus on converting them to Christianity. “Beat the swords into plowshares” sort of thing, “love your neighbor as yourself” so on.
If the Left wasn’t enabling the Islamists so much it’d be simple, but there’s an unholy alliance at work.
France did this BTW. They made their mark as duplicitous backstabbers making secret deals with Sulieman the Great while Philip of Spain was leading fighting against the aggresively expansionist Ottoman Empire. Made the Pope in Rome so mad he was pulling out whatever hair he had left at the time.
Centuries later, the Leftist Revolutionaries after the bloodbath of the Terror, wanted to remake man in new France. They tossed out everything that had to do with the old royalty AND the church.
Including the 7 day week – a concept they associated with GOD and the BIBLE, so they picked TEN for their new Revolutionary new man number.
Ten day weeks.
Ten month year.
The METER based on 10×10=100 and thus the METRIC SYSTEM all based on TEN.
The ten day week exhausted people, the ten month year screwed up schedules, needed constant revsions, everything always needed an adjustment to translate to the rest of Europe, which was still on 7 day weeks, 12 month year and Imperial system of 12 inches x 3=36 inches, the humble, old-fashioned yard.
The only thing that has survived is the metric system. But the metric system looks good on paper and is a mess in real life. 250 gm of flour is harder to visualize than “one cup” or 5ml can’t be instantly recalled the way “one teaspoon” can be.
A meter, being 100 cm cannot be cut into three equal pieces. Factoring of ten is very restrictive, while the versatile yard is divisable by 2,3,4,6. Carpenters had fits, so building materials are always sold in 120 cm sections, not 100 cm.
Why did the Revolutionary secular French pick ten? Ten is the holy number of Islam.

————————————————
Funny, then why is it working in Europe? And in countries outside of Europe? A meter can be cut into 3 equal pieces. 33.3 centimeters. Building materials here are sold in whatever length you need them. You measure them beforehand and then cut them off. But remember to measure twice and cut once.
You can divide a meter by 2, 3, 4 and 6. Easily. 2 is 50. 3 is 33.3. 4 is 25. 6 is 16.6.
One meter is 100 centimeters (or 10 decimeters), which are 100 milimeters. Wonderful system, allows easily even very small things. And then, going even smaller, we get nanometers and others. That’s where the Anglosaxon system completely craps out. Modern gfx card chips are made in nanometers, not in nano-inches or whatever.
As for the “one cup” argument, you don’t bake a lot, do you? There are tons of different cups in tons of different sizes. Or take miles. You have miles and nautical miles and they are of different length. As for teaspoons, that is still in some recipes over here, same with cup by the way.
The only ones clinging to the old system are the Americans and British, and a few leftovers of the old British empire.
It’s a mess for you in real life because you’re not used to it.
Same with Fahrenheit and Celsius.
While we’re at it, why not use the old Japanese system? That worked, too. In fact old Japanese farmhouses built about 200 years ago, are more stable in earthquakes than modern ones. The system is clealy working as well. But it wouldn’t be practicable with modern architecture and engineering.
And well, I don’t necessarily agree with condemning the whole French Revolution as a whole. Look at Europe before it. Dictators and tyrants called kings and emperors, supported by the fascist church, oppressed the people. The French eventually rebelled because they had enough. And throughout Europe’s history you will find similar events. People pushed too far eventually rise up.
Yes, the radicals eventually took over and terrorized everyone. But in the end they, too, lost their heads because the people had enough of those tyrants as well.
Yes, Napoleon was a bastard, but the aggression against revolutionary France came from where? From outside, from the European monarchies. They didn’t like the thought of people ruling themselves.
Napoleon’s campaign spread the ideas of liberty and freedom throughtout Europe. Yes, they cost a lot of lives, but without Napoleon the revolutions of 1848 would not have happened. 1848 saw students, workers and citizens on the barricades against the “godgiven” order of the monarchs in many European cities. These rebellions were brutally supressed by the monarchs, because people can’t govern themselves! Or so they thought.
In Austria, for example, the emperor still had to concede. Because otherwise he would have had to wipe out all of Vienna.
BTW, in Austria education was handed over to the Catholic church on those days. The Catholic church literally controlled people’s lives from birth to death. And, of course, they pushed the agenda of the emperor who ruled by divine will.
Well, 1918 we kicked the monarchy in the nuts and threw it out. And it was good.

I read that the FBI paid this weirdo a visit. The jihadis will do their death dance anyway.
—————————————————-
So, he is a weirdo because the book he wants to burn is the same book that says, they should kill you. Interesting how weirdos think, don’t you think?
AuntieMadder commented:
Jones was visited by the FBI. Dove’s web site is down because Tucows in Canada canceled their service and kicked them off. He’s surely received numerous death threats. Further, his church members have most likely received death threats, too, and on their childrens’ lives, as well.
He may have been tricked by Imam Mucus.
After the news conference, however, Musri told The Associated Press there is no deal to move the mosque. He said there was only an agreement for him and Jones to travel to New York and meet Saturday with the imam overseeing plans to build a mosque near ground zero.
“I told the pastor that I personally believe the mosque should not be there, and I will do everything in my power to make sure it is moved,” Musri said. “But there is not any offer from there (New York) that it will be moved. All we have agreed to is a meeting, and I think we would all like to see a peaceful resolution.”
In New York, the leader of the Islamic center project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, said he was surprised by Jones’ announcement.
“I am glad that Pastor Jones has decided not to burn any Qurans. However, I have not spoken to Pastor Jones or Imam Musri,” Rauf said in a statement. “We are not going to toy with our religion or any other. Nor are we going to barter. We are here to extend our hands to build peace and harmony.”
Jones later insisted that he had struck a deal, without suggesting that he would go back to his Quran-burning plan in light of the imams’ denials. He said Musri told him that officials would guarantee that the mosque would be moved.
“We are canceling the event because we have agreed, I take him at his word, he has agreed to move the Ground Zero mosque,” Jones said. “I verified that three or four times with witnesses. I trust that man who gave me that. I believe he is a man of integrity, a man of his word, I do not believe that he lied to me.”
Jones said that if the mosque is not moved, “then I think Islam is a very poor example of religion. I think that would be very pitiful. I do not expect that.”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100909/ap_on_re_us/quran_burning
Jones is supposed to be knowledgeable about Islam. If so, he should know about kitman.
“Kitman” is close to “taqiyya,” but rather than outright dissimulation, it consists in telling only a part of the truth, with “mental reservation” justifying the omission of the rest. One example may suffice. When a Muslim maintains that “jihad” really means “a spiritual struggle,” and fails to add that this definition is a recent one in Islam (little more than a century old), he misleads by holding back, and is practicing “kitman.” When he adduces, in support of this doubtful proposition, the hadith in which Muhammad, returning home from one of his many battles, is reported to have said (as known from a chain of transmitters, or isnad), that he had returned from “the Lesser Jihad to the Greater Jihad” and does not add what he also knows to be true, that this is a “weak” hadith, regarded by the most-respected muhaddithin as of doubtful authenticity, he is further practicing “kitman.”
High Fitzgerald, Jihad Watch http://www.jihadwatch.org/islam-101.html
For right now, I like to think that Jones played along, allowing Imams Roof-Roof and Mucus to reveal themselves as liars and Islam for promoting dishonesty as well as violence.

The church behind the signs
A close-up look at the church whose “Islam is of the devil” signs continue to spark controversy.
http://www.gainesville.com/article/20090719/ARTICLES/907191005
Associates with Westboro Baptist…
Westboro protesters, who were carrying signs saying “God hates Israel” and “Bloody Obama,” stood with signs outside Trinity United and UF Hillel. They arrived at each location and, amid cheers from counter protesters, left close to times specified by a picketing schedule posted online by the church.
At the entrance to Trinity United off of Northwest 53rd Avenue, the Westboro group also was joined by about 30 members of the Dove World Outreach Center, said Gainesville police monitoring the protest. Many were wearing the shirt with the words “Islam is of the Devil,” the same words on a sign that members had posted outside their church in July of 2009.
One of the Westboro protesters, Rebekah Phelps-Roper, 22, of Topeka, Kan., said the group came to Gainesville because it was where children were being taught that it was OK to be gay.
http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100418/articles/100419422?p=all&tc=pgall
To his credit, Dove joined other Christian churches who protested Florida CPS for even considering returning to her parents Rifqa Barry, teenaged Christian convert, who ran away from home because she feared her Muslim father would carry out threats to kill her for apostacy.
None of this has any bearing on Jones’ freedoms. Since domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers are free to desecrate the flag, then weirdos (or not) like Jones are free to bur Qurans.

The lefturds have used everything, including lies they’ve had to make up, to smear conservatives. Except for joining them and becoming lefturds ourselves, there’s no way that’s ever going to stop. Pretty much the same can be said of Islam, who will only be pleased by non-muslims who either die or convert.
Fortunately, however, when it comes to lefturds, they’ve so discredited themselves that they’ve become an echo chamber. Only lefturds listen to lefturds, except for when Muslims tune in, looking for something to be all indignant and pissed off about.
