Another feather for his cap…
Andrew Breitbart got Bill Maher to admit he’s a socialist last night on his show. Of course, we all knew that Bill Maher was a conservative-hating socialist. It was just good to see him finally admit it on his own show. Andrew was a guest along with Republican CNN contributor Katie Holmes.
NewsBusters reported:

Transcript via NewsBusters:

ANDREW BREITBART: So you’re, you’re officially not a Libertarian anymore, right? I mean, this position…

MAHER: Well..

BREITBART: …has run so far from the Libertarian position. Is this, so you admit that you have more of a, you know, European socialist leaning perspective on this issue?

(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)

BREITBART: Why is that funny?

  1. Nauseating, but packed with nutritional informative goodness. European socialism works. American voters are stupid – and the audience applauds.
At least I didn’t have to hear from the fat family guy jerk on the end.

  2. Maher is only half as smart as he thinks he is.

  3. Why do liberals always think they are so much smarter than everyone else?

So if maher believes the American people are stupid then he must admit that electing Obama was stupid.

  4. I wish Obama would talk with Andrew.

  5. [The left-wing Jewish group J-Street, which purports to represent "moderate" Jews opposing "hard line" Israelis, has been revealed to be a Soros front, receiving Soros money and lying about it. Thus, J-Street joins left winger Jim Wallis's group Sojourners as lying religious group fronts for Soros.] independent thinking or group think…..and why you have to dare to question and consider.

  6. He was hiding it? News to me lol

  7. He’s proud to be half awake or half fast.

  8. Great point Gman -

The audience is a case in point in term of stupidity – they blindly applauded Maher’s ludicrous ponderings and why they laughed at Breitbart when he pointed out to Maher that supporting this kind of socialized medicine was not exactly a libertarian position is beyond me. Breitbart was on top of his game to ask why that was somehow funny – he didn’t get an answer from dimwit Maher -

  9. So, when is Bill Maher moving to Socialist Europe?
Oops, I forgot, he won’t go unless the move is government funded.
    My bad

  10. Maher was never a Libertarian,
    but a Libertine.
“A libertine is one devoid of most moral restraints, which are seen as unnecessary or undesirable, especially one who ignores or even spurns accepted morals and forms of behavior sanctioned by the larger society.”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertine

(I know, I know, it’s Wikipedia. But on some subjects, like this, they’re right on)

  11. Bill Maher is just an average i.q.’s smart ass liberal punk. Nothing more nothing less.

  12. The biggest thing on Maher is his nose.

  13. Katie Holmes: “They talked endless about it, and their agenda was rejected by the American people”

    Bill Maher: “Because they’re stupid”

    :::Stooge audience members applause:::

This is the typical attitude of the snot nose members of Hollyweird and the D.C. media.

Thanks for showing your disdain for the American public Bill. The same public that you go mooching to for ratings.

  14. What kills me is he tells the audience Americans are stupid and they cheer.

    They cheer being called stupid?

Oh, wait – they figure they may be Americans, but they are among the “smart” ones?

Guess they’d better agree with whatever Bill Mahar (or Obama, or Pelosi, or whoever) wants, or they will be “stupid” too.

  15. Would have liked to have seen the video play a little longer.

  16. ++

    European Socialism works.. really Bill??

  17. The American citizen was faced with a choice: a better deal for the American citizen, or a better deal for the multinational ‘healthcare’ corporation. The fact that so many Americans citizens consistently prefer to subordinate their own interests to the interests of huge corporations is a source of huge perplexity to the rest of the world.

  18. Keep Maher. We don’t want him. We have thousands of his kind loitering around in our parliaments.

  19. Err, That’s AMY Holmes, not Katie.

  20. Dave-O * You’re right about Maher’s audience. They are mostly adolescent punks who will laugh at anything Maher says, and who will laugh at anyone who is rational enough to criticize Maher. The unreality of the whole thing is astounding. Anyone who appears on the show is basically soiling his or her reputation, except for the show business people, who could not care less about their reputations.

  21. Geoffrey—— Yawn. keep beating that old drum, you might get someone to listen.

  22. My favorite (and I believe most telling) part of this clip is Mahr’s assertion that ‘Americans are stupid’.

Only half of the audience laughed – which means the other half realizes he’s talking about them.

    That’s progress.

  23. The bill can’t be unpopular until it kicks in?

I guess no one should have opposed the war in Iraq until April 2003 either.

(I know, I know, it’s Wikipedia. But on some subjects, like this, they’re right on)

How do you know? Because you learned what Libertine means from a source other than Wikipedia, right? So, since information at Wikipedia has to be verified against other sources, just use the other sources.

Oh, wait – they figure they may be Americans, but they are among the “smart” ones?

Exactly. Just like the Progressives that they support believe that socialism will work when they’re running the show because they’re special. (That their followers/supporters don’t realize Progressivism is socialism is whole ‘nother topic.)

  26. “European socialism works.” Maher at the end of the video

    What an idiot.

  27. Hilarious!

Saturday night . . . needed the humor to round off the week.

  28. Maher is stupid in a smart kind of way…in his own mind that is.

  29. I really like Katie Holmes. she is smart and a babe. She should be on more often.Maybe a show.

  30. “European socialism works.”

Yeah, that’s why every single EU country has a huge national debt. And that without most of us even fighting a war. Hmmm…

Last I’ve heard from little Austria is that the extreme left has the idea of an “academic tax.” The basic idea is that people, who went to university, pay extra taxes (I guess 50% of their monthly salaries -those who study useful things- going down the drain isn’t enough.)

Also, the EU wants to introduce taxes on its own.

    More taxes.

I guess me paying 43.7% every month on my salary and up to 20% VAT is not enough!

    We must redistribute the wealth!

Didn’t know I qualify as “rich.”

  31. Somebody held up a sign saying cheer, actually, there was a warmup “comedian” that showed everybody what to do or they wouldn’t pay them.

  32. he’s asserted it so long because he doesn’t know the difference between libertarian and libertine.

Sure, go get loaded and bone sheep if you want buddy, but don’t expect me to pay for your ewok babies or to rid you of the anthrax on your junk – otherwise you’re just a selfish irresponsible socialist.

  33. “Why do liberals always think they are so much smarter than everyone else?”

Hmmmm….. might be a better place to ask that.
Here we are discussing someone being a socialist for supporting universal healthcare.

A quick look at the coalition nations fighting in Afghanistan would suggest the socialists have invaded Afghanistan for the 2nd time in 30 years and the US is the odd one out.
Certainly quite the hold out among first world countries on that front.

Either way, maybe the Cold War didn’t end the way you think it did.

  34. “European socialism works.”
“Yeah, that’s why every single EU country has a huge national debt. And that without most of us even fighting a war. Hmmm…”

I’m guessing the ‘hmmmm’ here is where you remember where the non-socialist US sits on the national debt front and how that ain’t a war-related problem.

  35. Here’s a good ISAF roundup:
    http://beta.images.theglobeandmail.com/archive/00765/health_spending__765244artw.jpg

Privatized fire departments would also make the US less socialist, but if they cost you twice as much to get the worst result, you might reconsider it.

  36. Interesting Greg. The UN study put the US #1 in all those categories across all income levels… they had to introduce fairness categories to push the US out of 1st into 37th. Given that your chance of surviving 5 years with a major disease in the other countries listed is around 20 percentage points lower across the board; given that wait times for treatment in those countries is month or years as opposed to weeks; given that the entire country of Canada has fewer advanced imaging systems than Washington State and that the other countries have a similar lack of investment in medical infrastructure….
I’d say the commonwealth fund is full of it.

You really have to wonder when the NHS gets #1 in efficiency – That’s the NHS who is the third largest employer in the world behind the Chinese and Indian militaries, who has hard age cut-offs for lifesaving treatments, who stages patients in hospital parking lots, well, who’s simply legendary in its inefficiency. That’s just odd.

Wonder what the cost and effectiveness comparison is between the big public employee fire departments, and the volunteer departments?

  37. Ahhh yes, suspicions confirmed. Not only did the commonwealth fund base the study on a telephone survey, they even had to tweak those findings and heavily weight “safe” and “effective” care factors to push the US out of #1 in “right” as in “correct” care . Timeliness had nothing to due with actual time waiting for treatment, but with expectations (Oi, I only ‘ad to wait 6 yeaaars for me new hip then di’ent I – champion! ) which is why these countries who make people wait for 6 to 18 months for and MRI or CAT scan were found to be more timely than the US where that sort of stuff happens pretty much immediately.

Same thin the UN study showed but they tried to bury the subjective measures within the each category rather than creating separate fairness factors… go figure.

Maybe someday they’ll just report mortality rates, wait times, etc but I’m not holding my breath. Still haven’t seen life expectancy from birth adjusted for traffic deaths because that wouldn’t fit their meme.

  38. I figure Togo and the like were left out of this study unlike the WHO study so they didn’t have to explain under what criteria does a third world 40 year maximum life span backwater rank as high as Germany. Would have made for a good phone interview though.

…Mr Ondingo, did you receive the proper treatment for your broken leg?

Oh yes! The doctor rubbed on the herbs which had been kissed by a beetle and beat my eldest with a large stick, which is our custom.

Eh yeahhhhh, we’ll give that a 5 out of 10… and would you consider your treatment timely?

Oh yes! The rainy season was being done for a long time so the trails were firm and fit for running! I was able to cover much ground and returned before the rain visited again.

All right then! We’ll give that a 10 – take that America. So, was the medical staff well co-ordinated and did they operate in a safe manner?

Absolutely so, sir. The doctor’s wife dipped the splints in urine of the buffalo as soon as I arrived, and his dogs were very good at keeping the other animals out of the hut and needed not to be told. The doctor’s wife and dogs were very well trained and kept me safe!

Another 10. How much did you pay.

Pay? I have no money. I missed the planting season seeking his good treatment so I pledged my daughter to his village.

FREE and high quality care! another 10! Mr. Ondigo, thank you, and I just have to say you are lucky not to live in America. People lose days of work for such afflictions and sometimes their 2000 square foot homes.

What…. Days? My village is 2000 square feet! Tell me more about this America, I would….

    Thank you Mr Ondingo *click*

    oh i get it now..

when they go bust from all this “socialism” (and they are well on their way), they need not worry, the US has enough to BAIL THEM OUT, hmmm (debt in depth)..

btw, what’s the cost of healthcare in say Saudi
    Arabia
or Libya?? oh wait, there’s lots more..

10 Surprising Facts about American Health Care

just so’s ya know, the truth is not what we have

btw, there are many factors not considered via the chart data reports et

[just fyi, the 2000 report has been debunked, but go ahead, rely on the progressively flawed data base, i mean, Al Gore does (& look where it's taken him.. Billionaires-ville here he comes, woot!!)]

Why America Leads the World in Medical Innovation

gee, i wonder where all those great innovative humanitarian Middle East countries rank on that list.. i mean, Obama swears they’ve done more for civilization than he can say “I, ME or MY”..

[disclaimer: not to worry, if Obama gets his way, ME countries will own
the top 10 ranks.. then the only discrepancy will be internal as to which
ME country comes in first, etc.. (my bets on SA)]

  44. If only we all could be rich enough to afford to be socialists.

So what is it that Maher does with his money?

  45. Wanna know why socialism ~somewhat~ works in ~some~ European countries?

    Because

    1) Their military spending is highly subsidized by the very one-sided security agreements they have with America. A lot of these socialist European countries spend under $10 billion a year on their military. America in comparison spends well over $700 billion. And a large percentage of that money goes towards funding huge U.S. military bases all over Europe, a naval fleet that patrols European waters, missile defense systems, radars, etc, not to mention over 100,000 troops. Europe has enjoyed the warm comforting feeling of the free guranteed security blanket that we’ve provided for them for well over 50 years. They’ve become spoiled, irresponsible and careless as a result.

    2) Their much praised (by the left) healthcare systems would be borderline 3rd world (and they already are in some parts of Europe) if it wasn’t for the privatized American medical industry constantly inventing new highly advanced medical equipment and medications that they adopt. There’s also all kinds of problems with their healthcare systems. It’s just that the left controls the media in the Western world and they intentionally coverup those problems because they support socialized medicine. Just read right leaning European newspapers to see horror story after horror story about the supposed “amazing” European healthcare systems. Europeans also tend to be healthier than Americans for cultural reasons and ~not~ medical ones. And to tap into my previous point, they wouldn’t be able to spend so much on propping up their socialized medical systems if we didn’t foot a large percentage of their defense bills during the Cold War and beyond.

    3) European countries have ~much~ smaller populations condensed in ~much~ smaller areas with ~very~ different demographics. America is much more like the European Union than say just Sweden, Finland, France, Spain, England, etc. Would you want government officials in Brussels running your healthcare system? Well that’s what it’s like to to have politicians in Washington D.C. running our healthcare systems in Florida, California, Texas, North Carolina, Utah, Michigan, etc. It’s just a recipe for disaster.
