For the first time a street in El Paso was shut down today because of a shooting in Mexico. One person was killed in the Juarez gunbattle.

Raw video: Police respond to shooting near border

Breitbart reported:

A gunbattle erupted between Mexican police and gunmen near the Rio Grande on Saturday, killing one person and prompting U.S. authorities to close a highway that runs along the border in El Paso, Texas.

There were no reports of bullets crossing into the U.S. side, El Paso police Detective Mike Baranyay said.

The gunmen attacked a municipal police patrol on a boulevard in Ciudad Juarez next to the border river, said Ramon Salinas, a spokesman for Mexico’s federal police.

The fighting escalated when federal police rushed to help, he said. One gunman was killed and three municipal police officers were wounded.

El Paso police closed that city’s border highway for about 30 minutes because of the shooting. City police said the U.S. Border Patrol asked for the shutdown.

Doug Mosier, a spokesman for the Border Patrol, said Paisano Street was closed “in the interest of public safety.” He said that to his knowledge, it was the first time a street in El Paso has been shut down because of a shooting in Mexico.

Traffic was halted on a stretch running from downtown El Paso to the city’s northwest, passing the University of Texas-El Paso, which overlooks the border.

  1. The wall needs to be 25 ft. high and 3 ft. thick.

  2. And where is the President on this matter? On vacation.

  3. Oh, no, this isn’t really happening. It’s rumors, I tell you, rumors! (sarc off)

  4. Those East Germans sure knew how to build a wall and man a border. Are there any notes or other instructions on how they did that? I know they shot people that were trying to escape. I don’t think they had many issues with people trying to get in.

A few years ago I would have said it is wrong to shoot people that were just trying to cross a border for a better life. My opinion has changed. Life and death are the only things that third world citizens and criminals understand. Build the darn wall with a 1000 yard no man’s land. Kill everything in it. I am done.

  5. I’m sure this is Arizona’s fault somehow.

    Or Bush’s.

  6. Paisano (U.S. 85) runs right along the river west of downtown, and right below Interstate 10 as it goes past the University of Texas-El Paso. If the shootings in Mexico get to the point that the Interstate starts getting closed down for security reasons, it’s going to be hard for the federal government to treat it like a minor incident, they way they can in Arizona, where I-10 is 40-50 miles north of the border.

  7. Been to El paso and have seen how close Mexico is. walked into Mexico numerous times.
In El paso I-10 is just yards away from Mexico proper. The bullets in the Fed building were easy . I will not go to Mexico now due to the current unrest. Remember, Mexico is a gun free country and only the federales have guns, LOL.
Thus the people of Mexico are unarmed and defenseless against the drug cartels. why are they able to walk into America without getting shot??? Fence yes, gunrange at fence HELL YES! Shoot them all let GOD sort them out. Powder is dry.

  8. But in the demented world of Jivemaster and his useful idiots, Jan Brewer is the bad guy.

  9. Do people on here realize how
much US subsidies of our agricultural products have hurt Mexican farmers? If you’re opposed to socialism and entitlements, you should be opposed to farm subsidies. Especially ones that hurt family farms — even if they’re in Mexico.

  10. to TruthSeeker: Please explain to me why the US citizens should be worried about what US policy does to farmers in Mexico?

I actually do oppose subsidies but certainly not because of their effect on Mexico. I object to subsidies because they are socialism and often fat cats take advantage of what was suppose to help the family farmer.

I certainly do not care a wit what US policies do to Mexico.

  11. Big Sis “the boarder has never been more secure”. Maybe she will put up a warning sign 80 miles north of the El Passo crossing warning US citizens to stay out due to potential drug violence. Kind of like the sign in Pinal county, AZ off US 8 AZ. 80 miles north of the Mexican boarder.

Uh… don’t. Just. Don’t. Mmkay? Those men manning the border murdered around 1,400 East Germans (about 250 in Berlin alone) who tried to flee from the “socialist paradise”.

    Learn from the Israelis.

On the other hand… Hey, at least they’re not using RPGs and hand grenades, yet. A few years ago some crime organisations from Eastern Europe fought each other in Austria and used RPGs against each other. Hand grenades are still in use among those buggers in their wars.

All brought to us by the EU and the leftists and their “open border” BS.

  13. OK Andreas, maybe a bad example. I was simply pointing out the effectiveness of the structure. Indeed it was a tragic time in world history. How about any border in the world where a country has decided to protect its national sovereignty, to protect it’s citizens from crimes like robbery, rape, murder or being run down by a drunk. How about the simple act of protecting its children from poisons like Coke, Meth and Heroin. The gangs want to show americans violence? They want to threaten police officers and border patrol agents? Really? Cry havoc, and release the dogs of war.

  14. Where are the open border advocates?

    LaRaza… Meecha…ACLU… where are you???

Interesting how they pick and choose their outrages.
