One thing you can say for FDR & Eleanor, whatever you think of their politics. Eleanor made no show at all of their wealth in the midst of the Depression. She served donuts in the Rose Garden when she entertained.

Some in the WH are trying to put spin on it by saying MEchelle took a friend who had just lost her dad.
Fine, but she can do her good deeds on her own dime. Though I don’t believe that was the reason for the trip.
Remember when Barry had the heat cranked up in the WH to 80 degrees in January, and Rahm defended him by saying, “Obama is from Hawaii so it is justified”. Never mind Barry spent the previous 20 years in Chicago.

Of course this southern area of Spain is Moorish, in that it was conquered and held by the Islamic Moors for several hundred years.
It is very telling that Mrs. Obama chose to vacation in this location, where many enormous mosques still stand. Maybe that is why the Arab Royals you site also vacation there.
The remainder of Spain/the Spanish people would be primarly Catholic/Christian influenced.

She didn’t take “a friend” – she took FORTY of them! The White House is also trying to spin it that they are paying personal vacation expenses. SURE – they are forking over the cost of two first class round trip tickets for a flight that cost the American taxpayers nearly $200,000! And they are not paying a single dime for the 68 Secret Service agents that are with her on this trip. According to European papers, just the cost of hotel rooms for the Secret Service will amount to more than $60,000 of OUR MONEY.
Wish I could afford a vacation at the beach – to say nothing of two. Oh, wait, this is #3 for the beach I think, to be followed immediately on her return by a week or 10 days in Nantucket.

I am finding it less difficult to argue against the proposition that Michelle or her husband either do not expect or do not wish to be in the White House after 2012, and that they are going to milk the office for all the bennies they can get now. Even last October, Edward Bernard Glick wrote that we have, “President Perks.” I wrote at the time that his case was overstated. Now I am not so sure.
Remember, the real payoff of being president comes after the incumbent leaves office. Bill Clinton is pulling down a quarter-mil per speech. The cash salary of the president is $400,00 (plus perks out the wazoo, of course). That means that B. Clinton can earn more in a weekend, giving two speeches, than he made in a year as president I (actually, a lot more, since the Congress raised the president’s pay effective in 2001).
That Bill served two terms surely elevates his fee over what he would earn as a one-termer. But will this matter with Barack Obama, the first black president? The sky’s the limit for him after he leaves office – and Michelle, too, since she will also be in high demand.
IfAfter the Democrats get decimated at the polls in three months, President Obama will immediately become, functionally, a lame duck, a fate he only narrowly avoided already. I won’t be surprised if he, like LBJ in 1968, simply announces he’s not running for reelection.I’m not predicting this, mind. I just foresee it as possible. What will be the major dertiminant is whether the Congressional Republicans will do enough between 2010 and 2012 to earn voters’ trust enough to make Obama’s reelection prospects dim enough to drive the decision. And since it’s Republicans we’re talking about, I’m not calling that.

Bill O’Reillly and CHarles Krauthammer are still talking from the perspective of “communication” as “Conflict Resolution.” That we need to make is somehow ‘clearer’ to Obama what our concerns are, that if he would just notice hwo it all looks. He’s ‘tone-deaf’ or not ‘focussing.’

This “vacation” is yet another way that the Obama’s show their complete disdain for, and disconnect from, the American people. Clearly, they have no empathy for what they preach, nor do they have any intention of practicing what they preach. Such an obvious case of “do what I say, not what I do”. How many American’s can take a vacation during these economic times? Yet, instead of the president and his family being an example of belt-tightening for the country, because they believe we are all a bunch of rednecks “clinging to our religion and our guns”, it is no surprise that they are so cavalier with the taxpayers’ money. It is, after all, not their money nor their concern. Disgusting!!!
