The poor little unhinged leftists had their panties in a bunch today after Sarah Palin confronted a far left loon for her rude and aggressive sign in Homer, Alaska.
The leftists were outraged that Sarah Palin had the nerve to confront this angry “teacher.” Teachers should be respected.
It’s just too bad she’s not a teacher.
Kathleen Gustafson is a singer in a drag queen band.

Ahem – “Theater Tech” is the name of the class. It teaches highschoolers how to create sets, lighting plans, build props, etc. Her collegue Amy Christenson isn’t a “Music” and Mark Robinson isn’t a “Choir” all by himself. The word that follows their names is most likely the name of the class they teach.
And she’s not a singer in a Drag Queen band, she’s obviously performing in the stage play “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” If she was in the Sound of Music, would you claim she was an Austrian au pair?
But, let’s suppose she really was both just a theater tech and a singer in a drag queen rock band – so what?
Palin showed little class in talking with someone who disagreed with her. She mocked her openly, rolled her eyes when she heard her profession and when the camera was off, her people tore down the sign that Sarah was supposedly working to protect.

Ok, just a couple things to point out, you might want to consider making these points as questions rather than stating them as facts in order to protect yourself. Theater Tech at a school is simply the new name from Drama teacher. The Master’s degree that drama teachers get include a lot of technical training. (this is different from the Bachelors). There are two Theater Tech’s listed on the Homer high school directory, (Gustafson being one) but no “Drama Teacher”
So, she probably is the Drama teacher. Gustafson is listed as having a teaching certificate since 1995 in Alaska- so even if she is not teaching this year, she can still be considered a teacher since she just renewed her certification.
Also, Hedwig and the Angry Itch is a hugely popular musical, later made into an award winning movie- so it makes sense that the high school drama teacher would direct a community play. It’s not really a “drag band”. You have to be careful these days, I understand the point you are trying to make, but you need to do it without looking like you are lying or it could backfire.

You should know, also quite easy to verify, is that the production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” has occurred numerous times in Homer. Always to a sold out crowd, and not always featuring the spectacular Katleen. The shows have benefited our local Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic, which provides low cost and often free health care to both the men and women of the lower Kenai Peninsula.
The highlight of the production is truly Atz Lee Kilcher, in the role of Headwig…just one of the multi-talented and infamous Kilcher clan, Jewel being of course the most famous. Except to those of us fortunate enough to have danced with the likes of patriarch Yule Kilcher, someone Sarah would have much respect for!
Please, get your facts straight. The interaction filmed between Sarah and Kathleen was just one of many just like it that occurred this past weekend.
Another fact to be aware of, is that PRIVATE CITIZENS, going about their everyday Alaskan business were illegally stopped and searched by the private security detail with the Palin family on the PUBLIC HARBOR DOCKS in Homer this past weekend. How is that protecting our constitutional rights?
Oh and it seems Sarah couldn’t even TIP HER KAYAK GUIDE, after a spectacular a=day on our beautiful Kachemak Bay!

theater tech is a real class in performing art high schools. you don’t get certified to teach it, for obvious reasons. it means she teaches stage crew, lighting, etc.
hedwig and the angry inch is indeed a drag show, but it had a mostly straight mainstream audience, and is pretty well known for a rock musical. this would be like taking a picture of someone in romeo and juliet and saying they were tights.

The longer this information remains up as fact when it’s not and the more viral this goes the better chance of a lawsuit there is. While filming the Alaska documentary in Homer, I had a brief discussion with a local lady who, in typical Alaska style, decided to give me her two cents worth about my political leanings, American politics in general, and much else besides. It’s what makes our politics so uniquely democratic: two people discussing the things they care about, even though they respectfully disagree about just about everything (you can watch a brief video of the encounter here).
The LSM has now decided to use this brief encounter for another one of their spin operations. They claim I – wait for it – “appear to roll my eyes” when the lady tells me she’s a teacher. Yes, it’s come to this: the media is now trying to turn my eyebrow movements into story lines. (Maybe that’s why Botox is all the rage – if you can’t move your eyebrows, your “eye rolling” can’t be misinterpreted!) If they had checked their facts first, they would have known that I come from a family of teachers; my grandparents were teachers, my father was a teacher, my brother is a teacher, my sister works in Special Needs classrooms, my aunt is a school nurse, my mom worked as a school secretary for much of her professional life, we all volunteer in classrooms, etc., etc., etc. Given that family history, how likely is it that I would “roll my eyes” at someone telling me that they too work in that honorable profession? Stay classy, LSM.
One good thing to come out of this little episode, though, is that it helps to remind people once again that Alaska is a great state full of independent-minded people. I look forward to introducing you to some of them in the forthcoming documentary series on life in Alaska! The show will remind you to get outdoors, breathe in God’s creation, and taste the freedom!

As Sarah Palin stated in her resignation speech ( and stated in many interviews); she resigned because she recognized the cost that the frivolous ethics complaints were having on her state and she saw how much of her staff’s time and her own time were forced to deal with those issues.

You and others are just wasting your time trying to logically explain to the trolls here why Sarah Palin left. They aren’t interested in the truth, just in pushing their talking points and following orders. Their orders are to trash her at every opportunity … or else create an opportunity, no matter how flimsy or even nonexistent, to broadcast their current meme. They’re just being good little soldiers and earning their keep. Wonder how much it is now per post? Must be lucrative, judging by all the posts.

I’m not surprised at how off-topic all these comments have become. The article is about a teacher and her assistance as a tech in a small Alaskan community performance, not about Obama or liberals/democrats.
I’m also not surprised that those who feel threatened by other posters are resorting to name-calling or strange accusations when they can no longer find reasonable nor logical arguments to discuss disagreements in a calm manner.
What I am surprised about is the blatant disregard for the actual definition of a “Troll”. A “Troll” is a person who delights and finds entertainment in getting serious/emotional reactions from their posts. As for all the geniuses who are crying about Palin quitting (I believe one genius said her legal bills were only around $100,000) it was because of all the underhanded and B.S. “ethics” complaints that were costing her in the neighborhood of $500,000.00. Now I realize that half a million dollars is a drop in the bucket to liberals who have pissed away trillions of dollars without anything to show for it, but that is quite a bit of money for most people.

The amount was less than $300,000 according to the Juneau Empire article cited @144. Of that, nearly $200,000 was the cost of a complaint she brought against HERSELF. So yes, according to those geniuses at the Juneau Empire, actual complaints brought by third parties amounted to less than $100,000.
And those are costs to the STATE, not Palin personally.

I don’t know if Ms. Gustafson is gay or straight, a teacher or an actor, but anyone on the right who throws stones at those on the left for being gay, being angry, or wearing a mullet, sure does need to tread very carefully. There are many Republicans who are gay (Craig, Graham, etc.), who are very angry (Beck, Hannity, and Joe Wilson), and sure do love their mullets, too (Rick Renzi).
We have more in common than most realize. What a shame it is that we waste this precious time trading barbs over someone as shallow as Ms. Palin is.
We all need better representation in government, locally, and at the state and federal level. If I remember correctly, that 10% unemployment rate applies across the board, and not just to a particular party affiliation.
Pick a better leader, please.

I’m just looking at the data. Job and income growth from 2000 – 2007 were the lowest in several generations, and the point is that the Republican ideology or plan hasn’t changed one bit since then.
Also the fact that on Day One, Obama took office in what was already the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. This makes every criticism of the Republican legacy valid.
Also the fact that Congress has been paralyzed by an unprecedented increase in parliamentary tactics by the minority party such as the filibuster and holds. Our representatives can’t represent the majority because the minority won’t allow up-or-down votes.
History does not start anew every 4 years. For 8 years listened to conservatives blame Clinton for every ill turn, I think you can handle 20 months of the same.

Not only did Kathleen put on a play that involved people dressed in drag (oh my, so did Shakespeare!!) but she did it with the “energy bonus” Palin paid out to Alaskans to ensure our state would support her vice presidential bid. They have portrayed her an unintelligent, even though she has effectively negotiated the one of the largest private sector infrastructure projects in North America’s history when her predecessors had done little to move that project forward in the previous three decades. The media have portrayed as greedy for making money after she stepped aside from the Governor’s office, while completely ignoring the fact the Obamas made more than 5 million dollars in his first year in office and a prominent Republican purchased a house in the San Diego area for the same amount that the media claims that Governor Palin has made since her resignation.
They have maligned her family by spreading rumors of divorce and claiming her youngest son isn’t really hers. This is all is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Would you like some solid facts about Kathleen?
1. She is indeed a teacher. Beyond just being certified to teach, she was the lead teacher in a small elementary school called Smokey Bay for a number of years.
2. With a background in theater, she directs and acts in plays at Pier One Theater during the summer. She also had taught theater camp for a number of years to kids of all ages. She has worked at the high school as a Theater Tech, and has taught many classes in drama and theater.
3. The ‘Drag Band’ she was in is actually a performance of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”. She directed the play, and then stepped in to play a role when one of the cast had to leave. This play also featured Jewel’s brother, Atz Lee, as Hedwig and played many times around the state to sold-out crowds.
4. Being a talented woman, Kathleen also had a job at the local radio station, KBBI as the morning announcer for a few years.
5. As president of Kachemak Family Planning, Kathleen helps support an organization that provides low-cost mammograms, pap-smears, and women’s health services to our community. Kachemak Bay Family Planning DOES NOT, and HAS NEVER offered abortion services. There are NO abortion providers in HOMER.
6. Kathleen was NOT representing the radio station (or she would have had sound recording equipment) or Kachemak Bay Family Planning when she went to the Spit. She was representing herself, as an educated and interested citizen.
Does attacking Kathleen’s character somehow make Sarah Palin’s interaction with her any more palatable? I don’t think so.
Kathleen spoke for many people, especially women, who were proud of Sarah Palin when she was our Governor. She seemed to be doing a good job for us. When John McCain nominated her for VP we were shocked… and when we saw what she had to turn into to take the state nationally we were horrifed. It was like she had to become an obscene caricature of herself.
And when she lost the presidency and came back to Alaska, she quickly abandoned us to ride the wave of the publicity and celebrity.
We as Alaskans, for the majority, feel embarrassed that Sarah Palin has come to represent us on a national stage.
It is true Alaskan women like Kathleen who are committed to their communities and give back to the people and the place they live by sharing all of their talents, that should rightfully represent us.

They have tried to portray her as a religious nut, even though she was elected and maintained a high approval rating as governor of one of the least religious states in the country. They have portrayed her an unintelligent, even though she has effectively negotiated the one of the largest private sector infrastructure projects in North America’s history when her predecessors had done little to move that project forward in the previous three decades. The media have portrayed as greedy for making money after she stepped aside from the Governor’s office, while completely ignoring the fact the Obamas made more than 5 million dollars in his first year in office and a prominent Republican purchased a house in the San Diego area for the same amount that the media claims that Governor Palin has made since her resignation.
They have maligned her family by spreading rumors of divorce and claiming her youngest son isn’t really hers. This is all is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

I know what you think it is, but I’ve never heard of such a thing actually existing. There are drag shows where individual performers come out and lip synch, but I’ve never heard of a band with live musicians in drage. Again, I’m wondering about your level of education. College towns generally have at least one place where some local promoter puts on drag shows periodically. Did you go to college? She put up the money to produce a play called “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” which has been a part of the American drama scene since the 90′s.
