And, you thought they only did things like this in tinpot dictatorships?
Obama’s top officials are now urging government employees to attend divisive and offensive anti-conservative rallies.

A sign from Al Sharpton’s anti-conservative rally on Saturday.
The Washington Examiner reported:
President Obama’s top education official urged government employees to attend a rally that the Rev. Al Sharpton organized to counter a larger conservative event on the Mall.
“ED staff are invited to join Secretary Arne Duncan, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and other leaders on Saturday, Aug. 28, for the ‘Reclaim the Dream’ rally and march,” began an internal e-mail sent to more than 4,000 employees of the Department of Education on Wednesday.
Sharpton created the event after Glenn Beck announced a massive Tea Party “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial, where King spoke in 1963.
Although the e-mail does not violate the Hatch Act, which forbids federal employees from participating in political campaigns, Education Department workers should feel uneasy, said David Boaz, executive vice president of the libertarian Cato Institute.
“It sends a signal that activity on behalf of one side of a political debate is expected within a department. It’s highly inappropriate … even in the absence of a direct threat,” Boaz said. “If we think of a Bush cabinet official sending an e-mail to civil servants asking them to attend a Glenn Beck rally, there would be a lot of outrage over that.”

The Dept. of Education has 4,000 employees….?
What could they possibly need 4,000 employees for ?

Yeah well that brought millions, wait whats that, he didn’t get a million? Well how many did he get? 3000 you say, well excuse me.
Mahon commented:
Chill, guys. If the Secretary was there it’s not unreasonable to invite his underlings to attend (as long as nobody takes roll.) What Duncan was doing there, of course, is another question.

For thee, but not for me, eh? Now about that Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy?
What a world, when Al Sharpton is considered a paragon of virtue, and Glenn Beck is a racist hatemonger?
I thought it was the other way around? But then again, I’m a Hater.

Remember when they PAID SEIU members to hold signs for Scott Brown’s opponent (what’s her name). Typical. Pathetic.

Ha! See that poster and the depiction of Palin as “Lady Sarah”?
Guess those spot-on photoshopped Michelle Obama as Maria Antoinette and Barack as Louis the XI really hit home. OUCH!
As usual, trying to vainly flip it back, the anology doesn’t work with Palin.
Yoo-hoo, Lefties: if it sticks, it’s because there’s a fundamental TRUTH to it that resonates. Michelle ALONE has run through what has to be hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars already on self-indulgences.
She also has the worst expensive taste ever seen on a woman.

Why does the federal government need a Department of Education, anyway?

After nov. we can push to do away with the dept. of Education. We can do better to send it back to the States.

Remember, Al Sharpton began his rally as a militant, racist, counter protest in the middle of a black city. Where were the brave New Black Panthers and the self righteous Nation of Islam? What was left of the pathetic 3,000 marched to the mall, but made sure the Beck Rally was over.
The Charge of the Light Brigade it was not. Street theater has changed a lot since the 1960s.

They should feel uneasy. A line has been crossed by the Department of Education workers. Once Republicans gain power they should start cutting Government departments that have become political in nature no matter if they violate the Hayes act of not. Governments workers are paid by tax-payers who are, equally; if not more so, conservative tax-payers. Republicans better start decreasing the size of the federal government and where better to start than eliminating the Department of Education.

obviously, if al wanted a larger attendance he should have scheduled the event during the WORK week [approved passes to attend rather than work]. throw in some free food and a free concert and voila – since we know how well that worked for obama. some peoples commitment only lasts as long as the freebies.

O’Reilly constantly gives Sharpton a platform and he looks like a buffoon. Last night was no different.

Just remember, there are more of us (citizens of high moral character, principle and worth) then there are of them (far left crackpots, racists, misfits and malcontents)….remember that when the coming civil war erupts….and yes, its coming.
The left is getting more and more violent and unhinged as each day passes; they are running scared…let’s keep the pressure up and run them all straight to hell!!

To Illinois Patriot: I agree, saw this and have noticed many of the other interviews that O’Reilly has had with Al Charlatan and they are always very uncomfortable to behold (kinda like watching Borat or something). Al is so mentally challenged that Bill has to sort of coach him in real time about “improving” his points and counter-points. I can’t explain it, but it is very uncomfortable.
Another (the main) issue altogether is why O’Reilly gives this race hustler a platform at all. This is the guy who made his name on the Tawana Brawley scam. The only reason he didn’t become a footnote in American cultural history after that pitiful episode is that the liberals thought that “his heart was in the right place” and he was attempting to bring about “racial justice” (by peddling racial injustice; compensatory treatment is completely kosher to the progs). So, what is Bill’s excuse? Does he think that Al Charlatan’s heart is in the right place?!

He should never have been there and strong arming his employees is Chicago all over.

Missuse and abuse of government property for personal political purposess. This is an actionable charge that will go nowhere due to the left having no morals nor ethics. That is why I fight back the same way. Powder is dry and waiting. come get some.
fedregugee commented:
When I worked for the Federal Government, the Hatch Act really meant something. Now not so much. Believe it or not, there are federal employees who are conservative but they must be silent about it. The fact is that the Dept of Ed as well as a large segment of the federal workforce is controlled by liberal political hacks even during Republican administrations. If you follow the party line you will get promoted. If they sense a conservative bent or, God forbid, you are a Republican, you will be relegated to the office down the hall and out of the way.

And not just the Brawley fiasco…Al “Kill the Jews” Sharpton did some pure evil when he incited the Crown Heights pogrom.

John commented:
On the positive side, when you looked at the turnout for Sharpton’s rally compared with the number of DOE employees Arnie sent his e-mail to, it’s pretty obvious the varsity majority simply blew off his suggestion, either because they had other things to do, or even for a liberal bureaucrat, being told to go follow Al Sharpton and give him credence as your ideological shining light is a bridge too far for them to cross.

Sharpton’s faith was misplaced. I hope we’ll witness more of God’s blessings than man’s manipulations in the months ahead as we turn to Him.
Beck had requested a “fly over” and was denied. I think he said he’d tried for about a year to get one. Well, it looks like God provided – what man could or would not – just as Restoring Honor was about to begin:

Let’s ask Nancy if we can dig Ronny up and park him in the Oval Office till 2012 as a service the USA. He could accomplish more and hurt a lot less dead than what we have now.
