Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and her aide’s children.
The Dallas News reported:

Longtime Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and a top aide’s two children since 2005, using foundation funds set aside for black lawmakers’ causes.

The recipients were ineligible under anti-nepotism rules of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which provided the money. And all of the awards violated a foundation requirement that scholarship winners live or study in a caucus member’s district.

Johnson, a Democrat, denied any favoritism when asked about the scholarships last week. Two days later, she acknowledged in a statement released by her office that she had violated the rules but said she had done so “unknowingly” and would work with the foundation to “rectify the financial situation.”

Initially, she said, “I recognized the names when I saw them. And I knew that they had a need just like any other kid that would apply for one.” Had there been more “very worthy applicants in my district,” she added, “then I probably wouldn’t have given it” to the relatives.

  1. When will these people stop thinking the laws are for EVERYONE but THEM?

  2. Thank you Bernice, another one bites the dust.
Democrat bodies are going to litter the political battlefield come November. powder is dry

  3. Johnson knew full well of the anti-nepotism rules. Now she’s trying to “rectify the problem?” Excuse me, but how is she going to pay back the scholarship money? I’ll bet she’s going to leave it up to taxpayers. Well, I hope DC does more than slap her wrist for what she’s done! Even if the money is returned, she needs to be brought up on charges and thrown out of DC!

  4. Dallas News

Apart from the residency requirements, the scholarship rules state that students must have a 2.5-grade-point average, but there are no explicit judging criteria.

Johnson awarded nine to 11 scholarships a year from 2005 to 2008, the most recent years for which information was available. Each of those years, three or four winners were related to her or her district director, Rod Givens. Johnson said she divided the available funds equally among recipients, and every qualified applicant got a scholarship.

The foundation asks applicants to certify that they aren’t related to those associated with the caucus or the foundation, but it does not specify which relationships that includes.

Scholarships have gone to two of the congresswoman’s grandsons, Kirk and David Johnson; to two of her great-nephews, Gregory and Preston Moore; and to Givens’ son and daughter. Givens did not respond to requests for comment, and none of the scholarship recipients could be reached.

  6. Whoops, another CBC member under investigation.

Did you see where Maxine Waters is demanding that the Ethics Committee STOP investigating her?

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/41488.html

You can’t make this stuff up,

  7. dont worry she being a member of the black circus or is that caucus? never mind will get away with it cause she will scream racist if shes brouhgt up on ethics charges and the msm will go along with her and im sure she will be re elected

  8. Corruption,corruption, and more corruption.
I’m no detective, but it would seem there is a pattern developing in here.

  9. When the penalty for this kind of thing is the diagnosis of “Acute Lead Deficiency” and instructions set in place for an immediate ‘curative’ prescribed, maybe it’ll stop.

    Until then…………..

  10. Racist. Yeah, sure, she’s a crook and all, but she’s black, so you know, she’s just, um, not responsible or anything. Angelo Saxon law as Rep Rangel reminds us.

I mean whites get their graft, what’s a few college scholarships and all? It’s not like it’s her money.

  11. Every now and again I waste an hour or two watching Top Chef. This past week I happened to catch a Top Chef, DC, episode that featured a young first term (D) Congressman, who spoke about his first day in Congress – a day that for all congresscritters is spent almost entirely in the study of ethics as it applies to all congresscritters. There is NO WAY that Johnson did not know about the nepotism rules and NO WAY that she did not know that she was violating them.

Just exactly how stupid do these theives in DC think the American people are?

  12. Why aren’t these Pols in prison? This is the antithesis of the Beck rally. These people have 0 honor and integrity. It’s all about getting mine. I was at the Grocery store last week and what I saw made me wretch. I’m Parking my 5 year old paid off car when a Caddy Escalade pulls in across from me. Three bejeweled, African garb wearing obese women go into the store with me. At the check out stand they whip out food stamps. Then one pulls out a wad of bills and buys a carton of Salem cigarettes. WTF. I know this is an age old activity that boils the blood of hard working people of all races, but dammit I want an Escalade too. I could buy one with the 50K+ a year my family pays in federal, state and local taxes and fees. I’m glad my kids were with me or I would have went on a rant that would have got me arrested. When our Pols do these things they are sending a message to their constituents that this is how America works and it’s ok. Well, it’s not, not now, not ever.

  13. Someone should check her freezer.

  14. Partnered with Univesity of Phoenix….

    WHO CAN APPLY?

The CBC Spouses Flexible Education Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship.
    Certain terms and conditions apply.
All United States citizens and permanent residents who are not employees or family members of the Apollo
Group, Inc. or its subsidiaries, CBC Members, the CBC Foundation staff, the CBC Foundation Board of Directors
or the CBC Foundation Corporate Advisory Council are eligible for the CBC Spouses Flexible Education
Scholarship. Preference will be given to applicants who are economically disadvantaged and who have experienced
hardships, such as homelessness or inability to complete a previously started degree program. African
American males are specifically encouraged to apply.

  15. Neomom, what state do you live in? I haven’t seen or heard of actual food stamps in years. Most states put the whole mess onto a card that looks like a debit card.

  16. @Kenny, while your post is colorful and unique, it crosses a line that is dangerous and not helpful in defining the conservatives movement. My distrust for this administration and its many thugs is total. But for now we are a Nation of Laws, and that is the recourse we have. And yes I do understand that Holder and his Justice Department are nothing but a arm of the Presidents political machine, but there are still courts and judges that have not been corrupted by the Socialist Machine. I suggest only that you dial back your rhetoric’s implications, not your passion.

  17. The Congressional Black Caucus Spouses (CBC) Education Scholarship Program is an equal
opportunity scholarship provider, which considers all applicants solely on the basis of
qualifications and ability without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin,
disability or even veteran status. Employees and/or relatives of CBC Members, CBC Spouses,
the CBC Foundation, the Board of Directors, the Corporate Advisory Council, General Mills
Inc., Walt Disney Company and Heineken USA are ineligible for the scholarship program.
Visual presentations may be used for CBC Spouses Scholarship Program marketing
    campaigns.

  18. Granny, it’s a card, I refer to it as food stamps because that is the program.

  19. A black Democrat that ISN’T corrupt. THAT would be a news story.

Someone should check whether Rep. Johnson pays her taxes.

  20. C’mon, we all know that family comes first!

  21. Is it the norm to include a photograph as part of application requirements for scholarships?

    Application Requirements
All applications for CBC Spouses Scholarships must include:
    ……
    ……
    • A recent photograph suitable for publication; i.e., a cap and gown picture, or other
professional quality and professionally dressed photograph.

  22. Thanks “neomom” for confirming my experience. As I posted a few days ago, every day I see one of our local blacks driving a $40K-plus vehicle (usually with $10K-worth of garish customization). One look at them and one knows one is not looking at a lawyer, engineer or other professional. Either a Section VIII parasite or an affirmative-action hire in the highly paid public sector. Bill-paying is optional for these people. Saving money is for whitey.

As for food stamps, momma has trouble fishing that card out of her Coach handbag because she’s got so much bling on her fingers and wrists.

And they’re not the least bit ashamed.

  23. Rock….. Sorry, I’m tired of being nice, holding back and all that.

They want the same for us – just for having an opinion differing from theirs, let alone acting criminally.

This woman – and many others in congress be they white, black, Hispanic, etc., in both parties too – have violated their oaths of office…. to protect , defend and uphold The Constitution and laws of The United States.

Enough is enough. Say it for what it is.

    ============

Kemo Sabe……. That’s about the best comment I’ve seen on this subject…… “Thread winner !”

    ;-)

  24. prosecuting corrupt blacks=racism
prosecuting corrupt white libs=partisan political attacks
    prosecuting white conservatives=draining the swamp

  25. Members of the black caucus have longevity on their side, and that is probably why their numbers seem to come up a lot in ethics violations. The members of the black caucus get re-elected no matter how corrupt they are, which speaks volumes about their constituency. So they have been in their positions a LONG time, and gradually assume that the laws don’t apply to them. Rangel, Waters, and this Johnson woman – the scandal will not affect their re-elections.

  26. Cnogresscritters are members of the Legislative branch. They should no Executive Department roles in administering any public funds.

  27. Kenny no apology needed, most here are as disgusted with these race baiting Socialist as you, just need to be careful not to give them the ammo they need to demonize us.
As for this blog I find it odd there has been little talk in the media about the corruption in the city of Bell Ca. and others. Given the MSM has failed to ID the Party they ran on I suspect that they too may be Democraps. Is there some sort of prerequisite of fraud 101 before someone can run as a Democrap? No wonder they keep needing to tax more they keep stealing the money needed to care for their constituents.

  28. Sadly, Bernice is in a D =27 district, so- despite having the finest opponent that has ever stood against her in Pastor Broden- there is little chance of EBJ being ousted by this or anything else. She could be caught as a leader of a KKK group and her little minions will just troop down to the polls and punch that single ticket Democrat slot and keep her in office.

  30. Granny # 10
Just exactly how stupid do these thieves in DC think the American people are?
They must be very stupid, they keep electing her.
nepotism: I doubt anyone actually explained to her the meaning of that big word.

  31. But think of all the money she has given to the poor. She’s entitled.

Well, actually she didn’t give “Her” money, she stole the money from taxpayers, but what the heck.

    She’s entitled. Just ask her.

  32. Re vargas’s question at #1: When will these people stop thinking the laws are for EVERYONE but THEM?

When they start going to jail. When they’re regarded as pariahs by the people who elected them.

Look at how egregious the behavior of Marion Barry and Kwame Kilpatrick was before they were put behind bars. Look at the difficulty in prosecuting Blagojevich.

Most of these politcal criminals will blame a subordinate or the very bureaucracy which they created for their “inadvertent mistake.” And they usually get away with it.

  33. Just more of the same.. “TNB”..

  34. She’ll get a slap on the wrist…………

  35. Did she actually say that she “recognized the names” of the recipient who turned out to be her own relatives? HMM – the names sound familiar……………… Hilarious.

  36. Kenny Soloman. I understand your rant and the time is a comin. Till then I will stick with plausable deniablity. Like NOTUS…….so many other uses.
The rat bastards are going to get what they deserve. Saving our country and our way of life is at steak here.
    powder is dry.

  37. She’s my rep!

I’m so proud of her! Bernie’s all grown up… Think of the welter of emotions when I heard my very own representative mentioned in the same breath as legislative legends like Charles Rangel and Maxine Waters.

    Dallas reaches the BIG-TIME, y’all!

  38. Quick! Name a member of the CBC whose net worth has NOT mysteriously grown over the years without any obvious source like investments, etc.

Name one whose friends and relatives have NOT been appointed to government jobs for which they have no apparent qualification.

Name one whose friends, families, or supporters have NOT directly benefited from “earmarked” funds.

    Good luck!

  39. Bernece Johonson should ‘race to the top’ over charlie and maxine. Berniece used to be the chairman of the CBC scholorship foundation, no excuses from others that she didnt know. Oops Bush is at fault

  40. I do believe that madame congressperson’s perks fall under the category of “Reparations”.

It’s like she won a spot on a game show where she gets to keep all the cash she can fit into her shorts and socks.

    That’s the absolute truth.

  42. Like all leftists, she’s terribly sorry…that she got caught. And “rectify things” means she’ll just hope all is quickly forgotten. Of course, most important is the fact she is black, the fraudulent recipients were black and therefore all were entitled to whatever they stole/received.

  43. Congressional oath, take care of your own first!
